RIP JAXX xx Unbelievable the depths of depravity some human beings will stoop to in order to avoid bad publicity and loss of money. I just hope they are never allowed to look after peoples pets any more !!

Amazing what bad publicity does to kennels - it usually closes them for good! If this were to happen to me then I would not be recommending them to anyone and quite the opposite.Last edited: 2013-03-25 09:12:23 by ClaireC

Reading this story reduced me to tears, how could anyone be so heartless and give such false hope, I run a home boarding establishment and have done so for sixteen years, and although the safety of my boarding dogs is top priority I understand that an accident could happen, but this owner should have been notified immediately. I can not believe that this man due to his actions is allowed to continue running such an establishment and I can only hope that people do their research before placing a dog with them. I am so sorry for your loss Cate, run free Jaxx xxLast edited: 2013-03-25 00:20:44 by Karen - Solstices Missing Dogs and Wiltshire volunteer

I am so very very sorry to read everything that has happened in your search for Jaxx. A truly dreadful experience for you all. My GSD went missing 14 months ago, and was also hit by a car, but this one just drove off and left him seriously injured. He limped into someone's back garden and they were good enough to contact the RSPCA, who got him to an emergency vets. Happily, because we got him registered through dogLost, we contacted absolutely everyone we thought could keep an eye out for him, and also kept updating the web page. We got a call in the early hours of Boxing Day 2011 (as we were just returning from hours spent searching for him), to be told he had a broken rear leg where the car had hit him. After several operations, a lot of love and care, he is completely recovered. I so wish you had had a happy ending, as it's so very clear how much Jaxx was loved by you all. My deepest condolences-cherish your beautiful memories, and take them forward in your hearts-Jaxx will be with you wherever and whenever you want him to be. Much love -JennyB xxxxxx

I've just watched the film - unbelievable what happened - how can these kennels still be going? Have they been investigated? No-one should trust them with their dog ever again ... disgusted ...
RIP poor Jaxx - you should be safe at home ...Last edited: 2013-03-24 22:24:33 by MAZ

In tears here after watching the film - how absolutely hearbreaking, and what an appalling and cruel situation. If only the kennels could have been honest with you - it wouldn't have brought Jaxx back but at least you would have had closure and been saved all the pain of not knowing. What a pity the kennels couldn't be closed down, the owners should hang their heads in shame.

RIP Jaxx wherever you are, run free beautiful boy xx

just checked out there web page, and they sell puppies ???

how very sad, the poor owners must have gone through hell trying to find the truth about there beloved Jaxx. rip poor boy and my thoughts are with the family. xx

I have watched the film it is so heart breaking if only the kennels could have been honest with you in the first place instead of letting you search its beyond belief and so cruel. I was hoping the kennels would have been closed down. If I lived in this area its the last place I would take my dogs to knowing this.
Run free Jaxx such a handsome boy:(

Gut-wrenching and so sorry for the owners in this tragic story. Sadly this has happened before to a friend of mine who lost her dog in similar circumstances. Although never confirmed it is thought that her dog was killed in RTA and the kennels lied through their back teeth as well. This kennels has now closed. My sympathies to you both. RIP Jaxx xx

Jaxx's owners have asked me to post up this short film of their story - they still mourn for their boy and have been denied the right to say goodbye - such a sad tale

Loss Of A Dog................ If you've ever known the joyful sound of barks that fill the air- a sloppy kiss, a friendly paw, a quiet adoring stare if you’ve ever had a special friend to share a tear or two, or maybe just a wagging tail to lift you when you’re blue. If you’ve ever lost your troubles in a joyful romp outside, or shared your fears with listening ears that never left your side if you’ve ever felt the wrenching pain that only death can send then you have lost not just a dog you’ve truly lost a friend, a loving God would not destroy the love that He creates so rest assured that you will find your dog at Heaven’s gate. That joyful bark, that sloppy kiss will greet you once again and share your love forever more your Dog…..your Jaxx, your Precious Friend ♥ x ♥

You know how devastated I feel for you Cate and i'm still too upset to read back through the thread of all the searching we did.. I find it very hard to get my head around what these people did. I think of you and haven't been able to reply to your email as my laptop died and I lost all my contacts. Please contact me if you read this x Run free sweet boy knowing your mummy and daddy did everything they could to bring you home xx

I too have just spent the last 3/4 hr reading these threads, and have now read the Telegraph report.
Words fail me. To think the kennels were giving you dummy sightings and leads - is not only immoral and deceitful,- it's inhuman. The sooner the place is closed down and the accused evil people are publicly exposed...the better.
This isn't the end result or journey anyone would have wished for you Pixie, but the fact that these evil people have been publicly discredited, and dishonoured (and hopefully imprisoned)- and will never again be able to run a kennels, means that other dogs will never have to suffer at their blooded hands....maybe poor Jaxx has saved a lot of suffering.

I'm glad you have closure, but I am so dreadfully sorry for your loss. Nola x

jobadger. You have said it all. Rest assured that your boy isn`t far away and one day you will be reunited with him. Like jobadger said he knew you loved him and as we know love never dies. Night, night Jax sleep tight and look down on your owners who need your strength. Sending you healing thoughts for what you have had to endure and loads of hugs from me. God Bless . RIP sweetheart.

I've just spent the last hour reading these postings and I'm absolutely devastated for you. The lies and deceit that you have had to endure are incredible. I do so hope that you find closure. I'm so sorry you weren't able to say goodbye, but your boy knows he is loved and sorely missed, I have no doubt that he's watching and waiting for the time when you will meet again. Take care - I do hope that this kennels is eventually exposed for all of their duplicity and hypocritical dishonesty. xxx

WOW,,thats a shocking story..I am so sorry it ended this way for your beloved boy ;-( I know how important closure is and you were denied this, such a shame they didnt just tell the truth and saved you all this pain

Thank you everyone for your comments; one of the hardest things for us is the prolonged hope we had and not knowing where Jaxx is. We feel we have been denied the right to lay Jaxx to rest properly and to say goodbye to our beloved boy. He continues to be desperately missed and will forever be in our hearts. Thank you all for your thoughts and support that we have had through this traumatic time. Cate & Stef xx
DogLostAngus
This has been such a long and anguished journey for Jaxx's owners which has had them spending hours searching - following false leads across the countryside for months on end, it seems that they could have been told the truth earlier and although it would have been devastating it would not have given them false hope day after day, my heart aches for them not being able to lay his body to rest, something that all dog owners should be allowed to do.

For Dolly - further to your comments below from 6th July, would you be happy to contact me on the No. 1 phone above? I am looking for people with direct experience of the place. Many thanks.

We've decided against re-postering as there haven't been any other notifications and the call came in over 24 hours later than the sighting. We are moving forward with things but that's all I can say openly at the moment. We would like to thank everyone for their continued support, help and comments. Doglost is a fantastic resource that has helped us enormously. Thanks everyone. Will keep updating what I can. xx

Hi Pixie
So sorry to hear about your lovely dog. I know these people quite well and would not be surprised if there has been some deception. If you have the strength to follow it as far as you can to expose the truth then I hope you do - it may save someone else going through this same pain and trauma.

Hi Cate
I'm keeping up with news, are you going to poster Henfield for news of this dalmation that was sighted on the 11th? If you need a hand, let me know.
Pixie
Hi Springerlover. Thank you so much for looking around the common. I know that most posters have now been removed given what we learned about Jaxx. I am sure this must be another dog - certainly there was one seen in early May and this is probably the same one. I know that there are lots of people looking in Henfield - we do need to find out who is this dog is. Am hoping for other sightings so this dog can be found soon. The information we have says this can't be Jaxx but no-one is aware of another dal missing locally; if anyone can shed any light on others missing this would be a great help.
springerlover
Hi Pixie, hubby and I (no dogs)just got back from Henfield Common, did the back middle and front saw nothing, had lead tin of dog food in hand.Right time to go as very quiet,at the back of the common is a field of maize !!! good place to hide, lots and lots of bunnies. Please post if you have any further news, lots of us in Henfield are looking for you, just ask if you want me to look anywhere. Only saw two posters on the common, nothing on me tonight and not about till later tomorrow can anyone else help with posters.
springerlover
Fingers crossed the sighting is of Jaxx, I spent the later part of the afternoon on there watching cricket obviously saw nothing. However I do back onto the common and still as ever for you will keep a close look out. Thinking of you as always.
Pixie
Have now spoken to person. Is Henfield Common; she says she saw him about 11 yesterday. She said he was dirty and underweight and that she called to him, he stopped and turned and then ran into the trees. The common was saturated with posters and he is the most famous dog in that area. I'm into the realms of confused.com. Information we have logically indicates that this can't be our Jaxx. I just know that this living nightmare continues. Thank you for your continued support. The truth will out eventually. xxLast edited: 2011-07-11 19:16:59 by Pixie

Hi Guys. Any updates re the ongoing situation with the kennels? Just want to confront him with the truth and see how he reacts - he just owes it to you to finally tell the truth and let you know where he has put Jaxx to rest. People must find out the truth before they leave their dogs there in the summer. H xxx
Suziewoo
I keep checking to see if there has been any further news as I'm so appalled by this situation. As someone has suggested that the local DW is a friend of the the man at the kennels, there are also some questions to be answered there. It just sounds like a huge cover-up all round which has just added to the pain & trauma of losing your beloved Jaxx. I'm sending you positive thoughts xxx
Pixie
Thank you for your comments Dolly. I hope that we are going to be able to get to the bottom of it all and reasons why this has happened. It is unbelievable that someone would lie about what has happened but it would certainly seem that there have been other concerns about the kennels in the past. Certainly may need help along the way to get those answers. We will do everything we need to do to get justice for our special boy.
Dolly
I am appalled by this news.
let me start by saying how sorry i am for your loss. i am certain jaxx was one in a million.
i have experience of this kennels and have met several dog owners who have had bad experiences there. i can't believe someone would sink so low as to lie about what happened to an animal in thier care. they should be ashamed and i hope you get justice for what has happened and they get publicly shamed for their actions.
if there is anything i can do to help please let me know.
Pixie
Thanks Kelly. This one has been checked and is genuine. Hoping to get some answers soon; it may take a while. Thanks to everyone for your continued support. xx

The dog warden will have a record of the date Jaxx was reported missing, which will be helpful. So hoping you get closure very soon x
Nettie
Pixie, please talk to the dog warden - I phoned him when Jaxx first went missing and he told me the kennel owner was a friend of his who alerted him when Jaxx went missing and he joined the search for Jaxx as soon as he was told. I'm really stunned to read what has happened. Sending big hugs - have been in France and am just catching up.
Pixie
Thank you Ade. I have looked at Suki and have been keeping tabs on many of the lost dogs to see how people are getting on. I completely understand the anguish you are going through and I hope you have a positive result. Jaxx was the most loving and affectionate dog you could ever want and loved the life we shared as a family. We are so very fortunate that he came into our lives and he will be desperately missed and always loved. Fingers crossed for you. X

Hi all

The driver of the Car that hit jaxx has indeed done the right thing as far as telling the owner ( who he thought was the owner ) sohe then has no need to call the police unless there is a danger to anyone else on the road ie if jaxx was still in the road.Last edited: 2011-06-29 14:37:41 by South Coast Animal Ambulance

I have been told by a serving police officer that hitting a dog must by law be reported to police even if they then state to police - (as the driver thought was facts)- that owners were aware.

IT still has to be reported so if driver does ring you should ask if he did report to police?
Pixie
Thank you everyone for all your support over the last 2 months. It has been a source of strength for me and has has given me much needed comfort. However painful and traumatic I need some closure now. xxLast edited: 2011-06-28 22:16:56 by Pixie

I have been following Jaxx's story from the start and am so sad to read all that has been going on and can't begin to imagine how you must feel. If at all possible, I too think that perhaps getting the van driver to go with you to the kennels is going to perhaps be the only way to get to the bottom of all this. I think of you often and really hope that you get some answers from this awful situation. Big Hugs xxx
Suziewoo
Sorry if I have missed this in an earlier post but surely the best way to verify the story is for the van driver to go with you to the kennels and point out the man he met on the day of the accident or at least give a full description of the man. I would have thought a van driver would have details somewhere of what route they took each day and therefore should know when he was driving along that road. I really hope that you get the answers that you deserve as that is the only way that you will be able to move on from this terribly sad situation. xx
Pixie
Thank you so much for your support Dogtopia, it looks like I may have to take legal advice. I just want to get confirmation of what has happened to my Jaxx - of course I have been told that Jaxx went missing as reported to me. It's so very upsetting to not have that certainty and I am so distressed thinking that this is as much as I'll ever know. I was hoping the paper would publish a follow up article with a request for more information or anybody else who may have seen anything during that time but they are reluctant to at the moment. I am waiting for a further call from the driver to discuss further because I really need to find out for certain and I need help to do that; how can I stop looking until I know once and for all that he's gone?Last edited: 2011-06-28 15:00:38 by Pixie
Pixie
Hi TwiggyDoo. This does help in some respects - thank you. Jaxx wasn't taken there until late p.m. on 26th so it could have been 27th and 29th that you saw the dal. I am aware that neighbours have a Dalmatian as well, which is fit and well but if you hadn't seen this dog before or after it is unlikely to be this dog and therefore more probably that it was Jaxx. Certainly very puzzled. Thank you for helpful info.
TwiggyDoo
Pixie, I'm not sure if this will help you, but I've been following Jaxx' story as I think I saw him at the kennels before he disappeared. I walk my dogs around the back of the kennels concerned - through the apple farm - and on two separate mornings around 6:30am, I saw a dalmatian being walked off lead with a man directly behind the kennels, I'd never seen the dog before and have not seen him since, just on those two days. When I heard about Jaxx I realised it could've been him. I can't remember what the days or dates were, but as I only walk there every other day, if it WAS Jaxx he would have been there for at least three days. I hope this helps, I'm so very sorry for your loss. I can't imagine the devastation you must feel :(Last edited: 2011-06-26 17:14:32 by TwiggyDoo

Pixie. When you take this further and the costs start to rise with solicitor fees etc, please set up a paypal account so people can help you. I for one will be donating.
I board and walk dogs and god forbid a dog was lost and subsequently run over you would know the truth immediately, not left to search and have your hearts broken time and time again. Did they really think you would give up looking?! I'm still hoping the information is wrong and he is out there.
Is it worth putting another ad in the paper, asking if someone else's Dalmation was run over on that
day?
Pixie
Hi all - we are completely shocked and puzzled by the whole thing; we verified that the other missing dal that was recently united was not missing for long so was not the one sighted in May. Whilst Dalmatians are not common, there must have been another one lost during May but not one I know about - certainly have not seen any other posters than ones for Jaxx. We are trying to get to the bottom of this but just getting more confused and bewildered. Thank you everyone for your continued support; I am not sure this is going to be resolved quickly and find out exactly what's going on.

Reading this case is beyond words and i feel so much for this loving and caring family who have done so much to find their beloved Jaxx.

For any kennels to loose a dog under any circumstnaces is tragic but to not be honest and try to cover up the story is despicable.

I can only commend the owners for their calm and rational approach to this and doglost will continue to support and help Cate for as much as she wishes.

Many questions need an answer so that the truth is finally confirm.
angi
Cate you know how I feel,I am totally devastated for you and finding it hard to believe anyone would do this. I've had contact with a boarding kennels owner I know and she advised a visit to head of environmental health who license kennels.....if they are licensed. She is totally shocked and upset that this could happen.
I have posted a thread a few hours ago about this on my Labrador forum to see if anyone could offer advice and get the word out...naming no names....yet. it has had over 700 views already and lots of people offering their thoughts and outrage.Lots of advice much of which you probably know and can consider when you know for sure. If these people are responsible I will be shouting it from the mountain tops..Thinking of you and let me know if you need any help at all.xx

Just returned from the Partridge Green dog show and as there wasn't anything regarding Jaxx checked on here. I am devastated to hear what has happened it is unbelievable that someone could be so totally heartless and let you spend (and others) such an amazing amount of time searching for him in vain. I hope you can at least take some comfort in all the effort that was made even if it did not have the desired outcome. I have been totally in awe of your strength in your search. Wishing you well in whatever action you are able to persue.

Like Dogtopia I have noticed that the dates do not add up.Have you checked this out thoroughly? If this is a typing error then I am so sorry to hear such sad news.Thinking of you xxxx
Pixie
Thank you everyone for your kind thoughts and wishes. Unfortunately, whilst I was given the date of 30th by kennels, Jaxx was there from 26th; the guy thought 26th or 27th. It has being going round and round in our heads that surely this can't be true but it seems like it is from information I have been given. Is heartbreaking for everyone and still hope there's some way it's not true. Jaxx will be cherished forever in our hearts and in our memories and I know that he did not suffer. Thanks everyone. xx

Hi Pixie. I'm so sorry yo hear about Jaxx. I, like many, have followed your search for weeks. However, your date for Jaxx going missing is the 30th April, the date for the accident is claimed to be 26th April. Have you mixed your dates up or have you been given false information? I desperately hope the man is wrong about it being Jaxx and he is still out there somewhere.
DogLostAngus
Pixie, I am devastated to read your news - not only if this is your boy and you have been denied the chance to lay him to rest as you would have chosen but more so that you have been allowed to continue to search every day to try to find him - we will await further information from you before moving his record, my thoughts are with you every step of the way . What terribly sad news. You need to follow up the story for peace of mind but how awful that you have been living in false hope for so long. My thoughts are with you at such a difficult time x
Julie B
I am so sorry to read this awful news and feel so upset for you. The kennels can't get away with what they have done. Remember all those happy times you had with Jaxx and I hope they are of some comfort to you. Thinking of you both at this very sad time. xx
Pixie
Hi Everybody,

First of all a big thank you to all of you for the help and support you have given to finding Jaxx over the last two months, we are both extremely grateful for everything.

Cate spoke to a gentleman earlier today who hit a dalmatian on the 26th April. A man from the kennels came out in his van, purported to be Jaxx's owner and recovered him; he was alive at the time but then died when they put him into the van.
The chap who hit him naturally thought that who he thought was the owner was dealing with everything and he didn't need to report it - we do not associate any blame with him. He then saw the posters locally and thought the "owner" recovering Jaxx had put them up as a means of not telling his kids what had happened but when he saw the article in the paper he realised something was not quite right and contacted Alex with the details.

We are both feeling very angry and sad at the same time but now need to take a calm approach whilst we consider what action to against the individual who has cost a lot of people time, money, emotional distress and now a lot of people with colds due to being out in all weather.

The sightings of a dalmatian we had been receiving were for another one missing at the same time and now safely back home with their owner in a neighbouring village.

We will keep this page open for a while and use it to post updates of the next stage of the process.

If there is one silver lining to this cloud it is that we have made a lot of new friends and met some really wonderful people. A friend of mine told me to remember that the reason we are sad about losing him is because we have so many happy memories of him - those we will cherish forever.

Once again thank you for all of your support and especially your friendship; when the dust settles we would like to invite you for a drink at The Partridge.

Thanks Angi - you're not having much luck with these cows, are you? Thanks for farm list, wanted this so can deliver leaflets where possible, making sure covered those in the area, in lieu of Farm Watch notification. You probably won't have seen article; fact about how Jaxx went missing completely misreported unfortunately but even so, if someone sees a Dalmatian on its own they will hopefully report it. So very frustrating that he's hind away so well. xx

had second run in with cows in a week today lol. went to walk from Bramber to henfield via old rail route and river. Got a fair way when it started to rain so decided to head for trees and bushes as Jaxx unlikely to be strolling by the river. Unfortunately there was a rumble of thunder and the heavens opened with very heavy rain and hailstones I think. Around the corner a herd of cows appeared with a couple od calfs that were clearly spooked by the rain and they started to run....fast!!in out direction although they hadn't seen us so we were able to leg it...or speed walk ...didn't want to make it worse! Got sooooooo wet lol but did speak to a couple of people and give leaflets. Knew we should have gone to the woods!! Have made a list of 28 farms taken from the ordnance survey map( by no means comprehensive ) of farms in the area if you need it. Not sure what the plan is with that.
Hope you are feeling better soon Cate...lots of bugs around at the mo with this changeable weather. Take care xx

Hey guys - noticed a few links about from facebook but not one for Jaxx himself, have you considered putting one up? Would be happy to do so for you or help you make one yourself if you're unsure how, it really does get the word out there xxx

If anyone is going to cover the PG fete on Sat please let me know so that I can plan my trek. If not, will plan walk accordingly so can go to the fete with leaflets (can supply if need be) Thanks. Cate

Have now read the article and it has a nice big picture so hopefully will not be missed. The salient points are in; my thanks to everyone did not get in and I mentioned DL but that didn't make it either and a couple of things wrong but not major; the main thing is that he is there. No calls yet though but not everyone buys it today. Lots of re-postering to do as some have been taken down unfortunately. The search goes on..
Pixie
Have not seen article yet but it is not a large article and how he came to be missing is not quite true but either way, he's in there and more people will see. Is PG village fete on Sat (think Henfield's is same day as well). Hope to be able to have long trek in the area between Ashurst and Ashington (needs more time that I had last night). Have just started to get sick so I hope it's not going to last. Will still be looking for my boy though as I know he's out there somewhere...

You are all doing so well! He is out there! Good luck and wishing Jaxx is found soon!

Come on Jaxx - time to show yourself again so that you can go home to your Mum. xx

in the local press today...good luck...

been feeling iffy this week so haven't got out but Nik is home tomorrow so we hope to get out and about. We thought we might investigate a stretch of the disused railway. lots of tunnels etc to hide in no doubt. Either the stretch from bramber to henfield or henfield towards west grinstead not sure yet. i also emailed a few dog walkers but apart from those you had already contacted there aren't that many with websites and of those only a few that actually get out into the countryside...definately a gap in the market there for somebody! Recieved no replies as yet. I think the airport idea is a good one was only thinking that the other day when drove past with planes over head! I also think contacting the canoe club with a view to someone using the canoe to have a look may be worth investigating. they can go past private land we can't walk on. come on Jaxx come out come out where ever you are!!
Gary
In view of these comments I will try to cover some of the area between ashurst and ashington tonight. It would make sense for him to be there, lots of shelter from the rain. Got a few more posters to put up elsewhere also, won't put any on spithandle lane as I noticed there's some along there last night. Possibly will try to get to pg fete on sat to hand out some leaflets, have plans at the moment but will probably cancel. Keep.up the good work everybody.
Pixie
Thank you CT. Clearly an ideal place for them to hide. Let's hope he shows up there.
CT
We live in North Lane, Wiston so have a good view of the woods all around, we keep our eye out in this area every morning and evening when walking our dogs. It is a very remote area and most lost dogs seem to end up at ours for some reason. If we see him then please rest assured we will be in touch immediately.
Pixie
Sorry to hear you haven't been well Amps and I hope you are feeling better now. It does look like Jaxx is out of Henfield at the moment but where he was seen last he could get back over there very easily. Good ideas about the airport. Happy for you to send link to this page. Trying to get the word spread as much as possible to increases chances of him being sighted. Thank you. Keep well. x
Amps
i all I haven't been well for a while but looks like Jaxx is out of Henfield for the mo. I had an idea about contacting Shoreham airport as we have lots of pleasure planes over us and i assume over where he he now is, and they might be able to spot him? Also at Pulbourgh where they do the gliding!
I also read while having a quick read about media, I do have a link for someone not sure if she still works for meridian, i know she is off work at the moment, but I can send a link to this page if you want me to. take care
Pixie
Brilliant job Gary - thank you. It's the village fete in PG on Sat - ideal for handing out leaflets. You can never tell but I don't think he's gone way out of the area given the places he's been sighted in the last 7 1/2 weeks. If he's between Ashurst and Ashington then he'll be hard to find as this area is the most wooded and such a lot is private land but he'll not be far from water at least; just need to know which bit.
Gary
Have found waterproof paper that will get through the worst weather and will not need checking. Have been using it and it is brilliant, need to print as photo paper. I have added a link so you can check it out. Hope this will help.

Been out this evening along downs link from cat and canary to pg, not seen jaxx but put some fresh waterproof posters up asking people to take down the numbers. Also put posters up at pg park ( I think there is something going on there this weekend), Buck barn garage, mcdonalds drive through window ( the girl I spoke to lives locally and has seen the posters, she will keep an eye out and speak to people), dial post and either end of ashington. Also put boxes with credit card size leaflets in at Cat and Canary car park, Downs link at pg and ashurst village hall so people can take one and have the contact details handy. will continue tomorrow.
Gary
been out today 20/06/11 from pg pub across fields to wier at hatterall bridge. Then along river to bines bridge, through fields to downs link and back to pg pub. Put fresh waterproof posters up and added some more. No sign of jaxx while out but will keep looking. Will cover a wider area with posters rest of week.
Heather
If the press do not want to single out an individual 'lost dog', why don't they do a big article on all of them. That way, everybody in this awful situation can get coverage and we may just be lucky. I would always read an article on such a subject and know loads of people the same. ??? Come on press - just do it.
Pixie
Walked through from Spithandle to Kings Barn Farm through the woods there and down through Hawking Sopers but did not see my boy. Alex had a look through Wappington Wood as well but not a peep. Let's hope the press release will bring some news. Ever hopeful of course. I knew that someone had postered Cissbury and Trundle - thanks raventte. x
DogLostRavenette - Area Co-ordinator - West Sussex
Hi, I put a couple of posters up at Cissbury Ring about 4wks ago,I havent been to check on them since all the rain - but will do so on Sunday. I also put one at the Trundle car park and that was still there at the weekend x
Pixie
Hi Storm, thank you very much for covering such a huge area; some areas like Small Dole were done way back when he first went and it has taken 7 weeks to get to this stage. I think Cissbury Ring was done early on but I have noticed posters disappearing, prob due to getting tatty and people taking them down. Think now that we're giving out leaflets as well, people can hang on to these and the posters will hopefully just keep in people's minds that he is still missing. Hope to be able to remove them all soon.
STORM70
Hi all,
Ok I postered along the river started at the airport on the footbridge there, then along coombes and beeding, small dole and steyning, also handed out posters and put some under windscreen wipers, no one had seen him though, and the people who had seen the posters hadn’t taken down the details (very frustrating) so I handed them a poster too.
Also postered along Mouse lane up as far as I could get before Wiston house and Wykeham lane.
Oh and broadmere common. Checked on the posters at mill hill/truliegh hill and they survived the rain.
Whilst in the shoreham area (along river) I came across a lot of pill boxes (think that’s what there called) there are also some on top of the downs, he could use that as a hide out, maybe not in shoreham if you think he is staying away form people, just a thought.
Has anyone postered Cissbury Ring?

South Coast Animal Ambulance
glad i got hold of the right guy at WSCT as he seems to be an animal lover and by how he was talking it seems like he may put the kennels name on there or at least the area as there the only kennels in that area! Cate it will let so many more people know about jaxx so that has to be a good thing so fingers crossed for a few sightings soon.
Pixie
WSCT are going to do an article this week. They have spoken to a couple of people and they know how unhappy I am with the kennels and how Jaxx went missing. How much they'll say without actually giving the kennels a right to reply is unknown (as they're on holiday). Not sure what spin they're going to put on it. Guess we'll see. Just hope that it increases awareness in the right way and that it helps get Jaxx home asap.
STORM70
Hi all, just had a thought - i see alot of people not taking down the info/numbers from the posters, so i thought about writting on the bottom "if you have a mobile please save the numbers". I know it sound obvious but poeple just aren't doing it. any feedback welcomed, thanks and good luck hunting.
South Coast Animal Ambulance
Hi all

I'm doing the media at the mo and waitting for them to get back to me as we deal with them every so often.
I will keep you all upto date but there are other dogs with the same sort of story not to far so they did say if they put jaxx on then others will want the same, but i think there coming round to it.
angi
Have watched the tv coverage of Oscar and the main point of the piece focused on the fact that after only one complaint the council is accusing them of fly posting ( they are not!) and to take down all their posters. The area is very rural much more so than where jaxx is lost...if that's posssible! He's been lost since beginning of feb and the press haven't beeen interested at all until now so the council have done them a favour! they are also in or going to be in the daily mail. But it is all worth a shot! x
Pixie
Have noticed that one as well Heather. Any e-mails I have sent have not been replied to but then I haven't had any luck at all with the media. I definitely think some areas are more receptive than others but it is an unusual situation. All searches today haven't yielded anything but he's out there somewhere. Extra publicity cannot do any harm. Also think that will prob have to target farms individually as cannot do the Farm Watch. If he's back in the ether, he may well be wandering over all that private land. Tomorrow's another day.
Heather
Have been looking at other lost dogs and there is a spaniel in West Country missing since February or March - sightings etc. ITV local have done a piece on him. What about our local tv stations here - they may be interested? Does anybody have any contacts?
angi
thanks Storm that would be great as looks like from meeting Steyning upwards covered but a need to reposter after all the rain.We feel it's still possible he will return to upper beeding area or even further down.
We checked the tunnel area tonight but the large tunnel is flooded and the small ones are bit wet and muddy too so even if he went back doubt he would stay :-( x
Heather
Walked from Ashurst, near the village hall towards the river. Went right on the Ashurst side of the river and continued for a while. Then turned around, retraced steps and crossed the river at the bridge, turning left towards Henfield. Walked until the river forked. Turned around and came back and did not see a single soul. Alex rode to Old Barn stopping at the field entrances. Then he went up A24 to West Grinstead Church. Saw nothing. Next time.....
Pixie
Hi Julie - replied on FB. X
Pixie
Thanks for everyone for making it tonight; it was good to meet those I hadn't met and for you to meet each other. The dog show went well; some people weren't local but a lot were and some knew, which means posters are working and they are keeping a look out and others that didn't know do now. Have also e-mailed the Henfield District Angling Association now the season has started so hoping this gets passed along but spoke to a few anyway. Updated a few posters tonight and managed to speak to a dog-walker around Chanctonury Ring; came up back through Small Dole, along Woods Mill, Oreham Common and Blackstone. Thanks to all for still helping us find Jaxx; feel we'll get him back but that it may take some time. Hopefully not too much longer but in the meantime the word is still spreading. Come on Jaxx, give us a clue which direction you headed in.
Julie B
I didnt manage to get out yesterday - but have been out today and put a few posters up in Horsham. Have also put a poster up in Pets At Home in Horsham. Was talking to the girl in there working and explained what had happened - she said that her Dad is a parking attendant and that his area is all around PG, Asurst, Bolney etc. She said she would tell her Dad about Jaxx and to keep a look out for him each day when he is out there. I also gave her a poster to give to him so that he has the telephone numbers if he should see anything. Have there been any further sightings of Jaxx at all ? Was hoping now that the rain seems to have stopped for a while he may have been out and about. Julie x
STORM70
hi Angi, yes i can poster along the river, cant do it until tuesday busy sunday and car in garage on monday but not a problem. on thursday im off to cornwall for a week, but as soon as i get back i will be helping again thats if he hasnt been found by then, heres hoping. did just pop up mill/truliegh hill and checked/updated posters there. good luck all.
angi
ok Storm will do.:-) Can we involve you in any plan to poster/leaflet around river areas near you eg Shoreham airport/lancing college/upper Beeding area? x
Just got back from Ashurst area. Picked up leaflets ..thanks Cate...then had chat with group of 8 ramblers who had seen posters over Henfield now aware new sightings. There were a couple of fishermen on banks so contacting fishing clubs great idea. Wanted to speak to the houses next to the bank & up path but I had dog and theirs were going mental so best leave that for dog free person!lol Checked the tunnels..may as well seeing I was there. The fish biscuits may have gone I think but that could be anything. Way too slippy to get close for my dodgy ankle.I then went down to Ashurst village and postered on pole outside village hall and over by post box. Walked around to school area and replaced the posters there as completely unreadable. Nowhere to poster next to church ( didn't want to pin one on gate!) then the heavens opened big time! It was like having a power shower with clothes on! lol Unfortunately it had been warm so left coat in car...needless to say by time I made it back to the car I was soaked through :-( My plan had been to do a few of the farms, the farm machine place and nurseries etc. but had to come home.It hasn't been raining here lol. Not sure if we will get out tomorrow as have dog training but see you tomorrow at 5 x
STORM70
Hi all, i cant do the meeting on sunday but i would like to know the plan etc, please keep me informed. thanks
angi
Hi cate, thanks for leaflets will go and pick up in mo. Not sure of plan yet. If poss can you bring more leaflets, cards and posters in plastic sleeves if available ( lots more rain to come!) so those who can't print can still poster etc if they are able.We need to go mad on it next week! Have a good day :-) x
Dawn
See you there - Dawn
Pixie
Great - thanks Angi. Pub is the one right on the corner of the High Street. If there's anything tomorrow Alex will let you know or I will any other time. See you Sunday. xx
angi
we plan to be there. :-)Is the Partridge pub on the main road through the village? it would be very useful to review where we are and plan the next move. As always if he is seen let me know and we will be there asap.
Happy for you to pass my number onto Alex when you next speak to him for future sightings.x
Pixie
Meet on Sunday

If you can make it I am planning for a meet on Sunday at 1700 at The Partridge Pub in PG. This way everyone can meet, we can go through where's been covered and the plan forward. I'll get my thoughts and notes together so we can review everything and then perhaps go out for an hour. Great if you can make it! xx
Pixie
Hi Dawn - thank you so much. Is a good time to look as I found out last Sun - lots of wildlife and would think Jaxx would prob fit into that pattern too. I am going to do an early one on Sunday and then go to this dog show. Did look at the tunnels tonight and was out whilst it was pouring and could see that water was coming through the tunnel roof after all and running down the side, however he had definitely been there because of the evidence before and the fact he was seen but can't really say now that he's been back. Will post about the meet separately. Thanks v much. Cate
Dawn
Hi Cate

It got too late to go out last night but I'll be out at 4:30 tomorrow morning as that's the only time I can do - old railway, PG, tunnels, river. I'm around all day Sunday if a group is being organised, otherwise I'll be out about 7 in the morning - Dawn
Pixie
Have just called them about Family Dog Show on Sunday and they are ok about about handing out leaflets so I will be able to do this one; of course if anyone else is available well that would be great. Thank you. x

think I may put some through doors in Ashurst near the tunnels possibly although most are farms and spread out so may need a different approach. If not I will do a few of the lanes near the village. if you can also print a few posters I will put a few up on finger posts on route aswell maybe by the church and school if needed.x
STORM70
Hi all, going to put some of the new posters up (ones with sighting dates) underneath the older ones just so people can see the new info. Think I might put some up further afield too at the weekend.
angi
Hi Alex Cate has my number so happy for her to pass that on to you.
just got back from the tunnel area.Went in the hope that the rain might have brought him in but I know it depends where he is when it starts. As this continues he may just make his way back there. Luckily as i got there the rain stopped so spent about an hour mooching about the area and scanning the fields. Didn't go right up to the tunnels as too slippy but did chuck some tasty fish disc treats over. There was what looked like poo at the other end of the middle tunnel but my eyes are rubbish at that distance without glasses so i could be totally wrong! As I went down the slope to the bigger tunnels right by the river something ran in the bushes...frightened the life out of me! lol think it was a bird or something but checked the whole area again just make sure! The biscuit was still there so don't think he has been back since yesterday. I'm sure a dog on the run wouldn't pass on a biscuit. But it also means there are no foxes nearby either as they would have snapped it up too. there is another den about half way down the field on the right where the small trees and branches form a kind of teepee. I was going to go there but was getting so wet had to turn back. Worth a look later if you go and it stops long enough. the other place you could leave leaflets is under/next to a cone that is in the lay by, pretty dry there. I didn't take the dog today so I don't know if there was any fresh marking on the bushes.x
South Coast Animal Ambulance
Hi all could i get everyones mobile number that has been out looking so in case a sighting comes in i can call around to people and scaa's 0845 388 2024 will divert to my mobile untill jaxx is found so you can contact me on there 24/7. thanks.

Pixie
Angi - will do some leaflets for you and leave by second style by the tunnels. x
Pixie
Angi - can certainly scent again to home from there. Did on the other side Monday given the info I had Sunday but of course we had rain and more rain since. Poss dry on Sunday - fingers crossed. Alex said that foxes don't cock their legs like male dogs do and he did smell it and was definite it wasn't water. Will be armed later with chalk, blanket, scent and camera. Even have some cornflour at home so will chuck that in as well. Ever hopeful. x
Pixie
Thanks Paula. Will put chalk on shopping list. I so hope it isn't long now.
PaulaK
watching keenly here - just a suggestion - if you are wondering if the mark is growing or changing shape could one of you reach it to draw around it in chalk or pencil so it can be checked next day? Keep up the great work - cant be long til you all get your reward now!
angi
you are doing a great job helping us out Alex with all your contacts I'm sure the word will spread so much quicker! I'm also glad we are not imaging things!! It's raining quite a bit now maybe he will go back there later .
I wonder if it's possible to scent all the way home from there at all..just a thought x
angi
good idea about taking photo!! was the dog biscuit still in the entrance on the stile side? I thought about water seeping in but those tunnels look pretty water tight and reasonably dry but it's always possible. the shape of the mark and the place on the wall is very dog like to my untrained eye and seems too high up for a fox. we have foxes in our garden even during the day and I've never seen one lift a leg like a dog.But again, I'm no expert! I'm not sure I'll be able to print any leaflets due to technical difficulties this week end but if you could print some and leave them in a bag in the lay by or near tunnels I can go over tomorrow morning.x
STORM70
Hi, just got back nothing there, did see the marks though in the tunnel, you sure its dog pee and not rain water seeping through, I guess its also not fox now that one you can smell!! Don’t get me wrong I want it to be dog pee. I checked on the other side of the tunnels aswell and saw a very small amount of poo but cant get close enough to see what kind. No paw prints or anything like that today, I was wondering if maybe he has a day and a night den? Im going to check out some info online and see if I can find anything helpful. Good luck to all today, he will turn up.
ps thanks for posters
Pixie
Hi Storm. Have e-mailed leaflets to you. The urine stain is in the right hand tunnel about 1.5 metres in on the right-hand wall. You can get to tunnels both sides but is much easier on the side where you go over the two styles. You can't really miss it. Was very obvious yesterday and darker than day before. No rain gets into these tunnels by the looks of things. You will have to go down right into the tunnels to see this. Thanks so much again.
STORM70
hi pixie can you email your posters please to the below email. and where is the scent mark is it at the entrance to the tunnels i can go there again today, dont want to get to close to it tho dont want to give him any reason to be scared off by unknown person, just getting close enough to check in the tunnels, why not take a photo of it then you can compare.
i didn't manage to get out early today, but will pop out soon.Last edited: 2011-06-17 07:43:25 by STORM70
Pixie
Alex came over as I wanted him to have a look too and he did say that it was more pronounced as well so you're not imagining it at all; I thought there was a marked difference. I can take one of his blankets that I've kept unwashed that will smell of things he knows. Certainly can't hurt; just because no-one has seen him does not mean he isn't going there. It's clearly all about timing. Would certainly be good idea to find out who owns that land. The fishing season started yesterday so I will get in touch with the Henfield Angling Society (seems to be them that cover a lot of the river). Next thing is def leaflet drop over the next few days. I will keep the scenting every day there as clearly last place we know he's been and it doesn't do any harm, even if he does not go back but need to encourage him to do so. Let's hope so. X
South Coast Animal Ambulance
Hi i'll go over today and have a look. With the way everyones going we are sure to have a sighting soon ( fingers crossed ) as he cant hide forever. ive got the job of calling/going to all the vets in the outside area just in case he has made it out of the area and also so the vets can tell there clients and they will tell there friends, so everyone should know about jaxx soon.
angi
Maybe if Alex is passing he could have a look. Just so we know we're both not imaging it! X
angi
I think he must be scenting in response. My boy certainly marked a couple of places nearby & he only does that with other boys. If he is coming back he is still in ashurst so a poster & leaflet blast would be good. All that land is private so need to find out who owns & have chat. Have you spoken to the people who live in that house next to bridge? They may keep eye out. Do you think putting old bedding or something in there might encourage him to stay longer. More smells of home. If we could be sure he's going back we could put food down the best way to get him hanging around. X
Pixie
Hi all. Just back and although nothing, visited the tunnels and you are definitely not imagining it Angi, the patch is more pronounced. Went there twice; second time about 30 mins ago. Biscuit was still there but you could really see the difference in the urine stain. Wonder if he is scenting in response to my scenting there?? Weird to go back and do it in same place. Have scented there again in the hope that he'll keep going back. Think you're right in that the times he's going will be late or early or if no other place to hide from the rain. Did not hear anything more about the Dalmatian in Pul - call went into kennels and he went over but could not see anything or even find the person who made the call. Possibility Jaxx I suppose but then was almost run over at Upper Beeding on 7th (approx). Julie - it was want to message me your address I will happily get some posters posted to you. Good idea to widen the net. He could be missing for some time yet and given that people travel throughout the area if they happen to see a Dalmatian in a field on it's own it'll bring to mind there's one missing. Think the message on DL is that you can't poster too much. Have done a leaflet myself, only difference from DL poster is that are A5 size and you get two to a page. It also has all the sighting details on it. Easier to hand out. Have also put a note on there to call in immediately rather than approach. I guess as long as they know, and there's a number on it, that's the main thing. Cornflour is good idea, I do actually have some so can do that tomorrow evening. Tunnels are 2 mins from me in car so easy to keep popping there; is certainly worth keeping an eye on this area (easy for those who live around here)to check and for me to scent. Thanks all, am really spurred on my people's help and support and as I've said before, for helping me hold on to my sanity. X
Julie B
I am sorry I wasnt able to get out on Tuesday night to go for a drive round. If it would help you and you think he may have come further this way - I am in Horsham and am more than happy to put some posters up around Horsham over the weekend. I have done it before for a lost dog in the area that was eventually found after about 3 months. I could put Jaxx's poster in the same sort of places that I did before. Let me know and then I can go and get some coloured ink and borrow my sisters printer. I havent been in long from work - but I still keep hoping to switch on here and find that you have found him. Anyway let me know if you would like me to poster round this way for you - and then that is another area that is covered. Julie x
STORM70
@pixie, on the 08/05 your comment mentioned a loose dalmation in pulborough, just wondering if you found out any more about that, i know it was some time ago but im pin pointing on a map and seeing if there is another triangle forming or anything like that, could you let me know, thanks
Storm

ok, email to blackchicken@hotmail.co.uk and i will print some off. looks like i might put some cornflour on the shopping list this week :)

totally agree Storm. Pixie has organised a leaflet from this site she could email you. I will text you her mobile so you can get the pdf. If you can't print any yourself I'm sure she would be happy to print some for you. I'm going to have a leaflet blitz at the week end if I can. Through letter boxes in the area etc.the sand idea is a really good one. at least then i will know if it's my imagination or not lol! xLast edited: 2011-06-16 18:28:20 by angi

ps I'm no expert but just from my experience on doglost they run for a few days then settle into a rough triangle unless scared or diverted in some way, although some unusually have formed a circle. This is often due to the terrain they are moving in eg lots of houses, rivers etc. The triangle Jaxx was forming included upper beeding but because he was nearly run over he could have changed his route. This is the big question mark for us. They can however be encouraged to stay in an area on route by plentiful supply of food and water long enough to be caught! This has happened time and again on this site. The trick for us is to stop him running long enough to catch him! the encouraging part is he had hung around Ashurst for almost a week. He may still be there! x
STORM70
i dont know about the triangle thing but i guess he will stay in an area that is making him feel safe and he can get food and water, and shelter. i think it might be worth doing some paw traps with sand or cornflour maybe in the tunnels. i also thought about tucking posters under peoples windscreen wipers, if there are any cars parked up near to footpaths etc. i see people looking at the posters but they dont take the details or numbers down, we have to find a way of getting the posters in peoples pockets if you know what i mean.Last edited: 2011-06-16 18:18:39 by STORM70

Just got back from checking the tunnels also. there were no cows in the field so we walked it as far as we could go. Thought we might reach the river near the place where it splits but reached farm building instead so had to turn back. There is a small wood in this field quite far down that is fenced off so couldn't check it out. The dog was off lead and did his usual exocet missile routine lol so would have flushed out anything hiding on route!! He did mark a couple of spots so a male dog ha definately been in that field. He only marks where other males have already marked.I then walked up the path opposite the lay by by the side of the house and noticed a little derelict brick building on the left of the path covered in undergrowth and nice and dry so another potential hiding place that may be worth checking out. There were little piles of shredded paper every where on route including over the stile into the private field so a paper chase race must be taking place tonight. Hopefully they will spot something! It may just be wishful thinking on my part but I thought the urine mark was bigger than last night. The water was quite high and couldn't get over to get in the tunnels to look closer but chucked a dog biscuit in the entrance! I know if it's gone it could be foxes but it might not! I think if he's going to be in there it will most likely be early morning/late night or very wet! x Last edited: 2011-06-16 18:12:03 by angi

Can anyone tell me what happens after the dog has made a rough triangle? Do they then make a new one? Do they travel within that approximately, outside it or just then randomly go somewhere else? Have plotted Jaxx's sightings on the map and it is pretty much a triangle. Just trying to second guess his next move and plan where to be searching. Have scented the last place we know he was but he hasn't been seen back there but no-one is there 24 hours day and going by the sightings, it's all about timing. Tips and advice welcome.
STORM70
ok, i checked the tunnels at about 1.30 and hung around for about 30 mins, also checked the tunnel under the road, but nothing. back home through honeybridge and spithandle and also checked bassels ln and clothalls lane and re-postered, will go out again tomorrow. i can do a 5am if there is anywhere in particilar you would like to be checked out. let me know.
Pixie
Unfortunately, the police only use the Farm Watch for crime and won't include lost dogs (far too many). He will alert PCSOs but that's it. :(
Pixie
Hi Storm. Thanks for going out yesterday and looking. Alex from animal ambulance thought there was evidence of more urine that had not been there the day before. The area was checked several times during day and evening but no other signs and he could go either way from the tunnels. Angi's right about the rain - hope in a way it makes him miserable enough to come out. Fingers crossed, as always!
STORM70
Hi Angi, thanks for letting me know, i will try and find it later. did anything turn up last night, any signs of him?
Pixie
Dawn went back there later on as well but nothing unfortunately at that time. :(
angi
Hi Storm just to let you know the tunnels he was in was not the one you went in today. If you go over the style by the gate we looked over and down a little slope directly to the left you will see 3 small tunnels right under the road. He wasn't there tonight sadly :-( but we will keep going back and hopefully he may return. lots more rain on it's way.
angi
hope to get out for the meet up at 6. Would be good to plan next move x
angi
went out this morning started at henfield. parked by the pub( cat and something) next to the downs link. Walked down the lane towards river. Spoke to a gardener who knows one of the main dog walkers in the area and was going to tell her. Missed the turning for the river ..lol...but turned out for the best as met a very helpful farmer who gave me his mobile and took mine. He said if we get a sighting to ring him and he will go out to look/let us look as he owns a fair bit of land on that side of the river. He suggested contacting NFU office in Henfield so I went there afterwards but they couldn't help much other than give me the details of Farm Watch which means all the farmers signed up ( apparently most are). I found the river but couldn't walk along as a very large herd of cows was blocking the path and one of them was making a very loud noise spooking the rest! :-( I also spoke to a couple rangers back at the carpark. I also drove to the lay by at Ashurst ( you never know!)I bumped into Storm there and we went over to where the tunnels are ( are these the tunnel under the road?) Storm went in and had a look. A perfect place to shelter from the rain.Funnily enough storm also suggested the sand idea as we chatted over possible ways forward. Also contacting the rambleres association and maybe you've already done this but also the post office as they have vans everywhere I've been looking! x
DogLostAngus
If it is dry you may not get the prints in the sharp sand as it has more resistance but if it is wet in the tunnel area then it should be fine - we used loads of flour when tracking Violet last winter, either though may give you a clue - rememer to photograph any prints so that you can cross match them against fox, badger and deer prints on the net (google images are great) gives you a good idea as they are all different shapes and sizes and quite easy to ID
South Coast Animal Ambulance
Hi Angus I had that same idea but have a bag of sharp sand not cornflower but i may try that too. Thanks.
DogLostAngus
When you check the tunnels out please pay attenion to any prints that you may find - direction and size etc they may give you some clues - if you think they could be dog prints you can spread a thin layer of cornflour (no scent) and see what walks through it it may give you some more ideas
South Coast Animal Ambulance
Hi all, Alex here. Me and some of my staff will be going out again today at 6PM meeting at the entrance to the star indus est and deciding where to go from there it would be great to have some more people there so if you are free please could you be there then and tell your friends. Bring a flashlight if you have one for the dark areas. Our contact details are, 0845 388 2024 and will divert to one of our mobiles.
Pixie
The tunnels are just over the road from the lay by on the Ashurst side of the bridge, just over a style and a gate. Not very easy to get down there at all so if you do you'll need to be very careful. think you can see them though if you go over the first style. Easy for a dog to go through and be in. If he did head towards Henfield again, he would be approaching from the west side. You can get over to the river from around the West End area where the Downs Link breaks. Possible good idea to have a look over there again in case he's come from Ashurst that way. Certainly can't hurt. Thank you. xx
angi
Point me in the direction of the tunnels from the lay by & I may get a chance 2 check again 2moro again. Is there another area you think would be useful 2 look tomorrow? X
Pixie
Hi all. Just back from being out for hours. It is the right lay by Angi, have been down to the small tunnels where there was evidence and scented around there in case he does go back. Was the ideal place to hide out of that rain on Sunday. Went all over that area down to where the river splits at Henfield. Friends were out in Lock Lane and heard a bark from some bushes; headed down there and scoured and discovered a recently dead deer which is where the bark must have come from. Never mind! He could be headed back to Henfield or back to the kennels simply because that was the last place he saw me. Planning to try and gather as many people as possible to do a more structured search on Sunday poss between 5-8. If you are available any eyes are very welcome and I will post further details and where and when. As always your continued help and support has been invaluable. Hope your dog's ok now Angi - sure he had a field day with all that grass to eat. Vets, rescues, wardens etc. have been contacted and I am trying to update them as I go along but a mean feat trying to keep up with it all. Mom going to cycle back the Down's Link from PG to Henfield again, looking and speaking to people again. Still positive but it's vast out there really and you just can't be certain of his direction.
Positive Paws
Hi So sorry to hear Jaxx is missing. I will email our office in Burgess Hill tomorrow and ask everyone to keep an eye out for him. Keep an eye out in the local papers and apologies if you have already done this but do contact local vets, sheltrs and wardens in case he gets picked up by them. Also worth speaking to local ramblers association so they can keep an eye out for him too. Keep positive and thinking of you. x
angi
we walked down a very long lane north of the pub down to a farm, past a pond and several fields. it was very hot so a sighting was unlikely but our dog is like a cross between a bull in a china shop and a whirling dirvish when he's off lead ...lol..so he definately would have flushed him out of any undergrowth we passed. We then investigated around the lay by area, then around by the school and church including a little wood and lots of horse fields I think. We drove slowly around a lot more lanes scanning fields as we went back onto the road and towards PG. We then stopped at a lay by by the bridge over the river which i now realise is probably the lay by you are referring too as the dog had been sick everywhere (very unusual for him but he had been eating grass so must have had a bit of an upset tummy). We had a good look across the fields from the bridge and walked a little way up the footpath by the house there but then had to go home and make sure dog was ok. He is fine now :-) If that is the right lay by I hope to get a chance to go back tomorrow morning if dog is ok and it's not too hot.xLast edited: 2011-06-14 21:33:39 by angi

Hi Julie - to get to Ashurst easiest is to take A24 south to Worthing. Continue straight through Buck Barn/McDonalds junction and turn left towards Partridge Green. This lane goes through PG and continues on towards Steyning. Ashurst is the next village from PG (small). Hope this helps. xx

Hi Pixie, every day I hope to see Jaxx in the reunited section .... and I am sure it wont be long now. I am in Horsham, unfortunately my sense of direction / geography isnt too good - but if you are going out of Horsham towards your way - where is Ashurst ? My car is being repaired tomorrow - but I do have my mums car tonight that I could take a drive out ... if I knew where I was going. Julie x
Pixie
Think he wants to be found really; his natural instinct to keep away has kicked in and serving him far too well. Wouldn't be so bad if it weren't so remote.
PaulaK
Right now Jaxx - enough is enough mate - hand yourself in!
Pixie
Asked to be bumped for sighting.
Pixie
Just spoken to the South Coast Animal Ambulance. They had a call in from a 2 day old sighting in Ashurst coming towards PG, and they have found evidence of a dog (on private land so not normal dog walking area) but he's not there now. This was just off the small lay by on the sharp bend on the left if you're coming up from Ashurst. They are going to help with the press. He could be so close but just hiding away. There is water around there so will scent around there later to draw him back (hopefully). So worried about him and the adrenalin is pumping. Please Jaxx, show yourself so you can come home.
Pixie
South Coast Animal Ambulance contact me this a.m. They are going to help look for Jaxx and with the postering; he can't hide forever. More people that know and are keeping a look out the more chances we have that he'll be seen. I don't think he's going to be moving around a huge area now despite him not keeping still. I imagine he'll be getting more hungry and more tired and actually he really just wants to get home now. This is all supposition of course. Just hoping he doesn't go too far out of the area he seems to have been in.
Pixie
Thank you Angi. Will let you know if and as soon as get anything. Mom went on my bike to Henfield yesterday to redo some of the posters and speak to a few more people just in case he does go back. Fingers crossed something works. x
angi
fingers crossed the scenting works or there is another sighting very soon. Let me know if there is and I'll get there asap as at home next 2 days.Wondering if he's gone back to henfield area. x
Pixie
Well, I've walked up from Ashurst scenting along the way home, carrying lovely smelly fish. No sign of him but hopefully he'll be within distance to pick up the scent. Always hopeful.
Pixie
Thank you Dawn. I am going to walk and scent a route from Ashurst back to PG when I get back from work so that if he's by there again, he can hopefully pick up the scent and come closer (if not to) home. If he's trying to find home then he's not going to keep still much, however I would imagine he's tired and hungry and this might slow him down. Looks like the rain is going to hold off for a few days but this is always changeable of course. Thanks so much to everyone who's helping and thinking of us. It would be very difficult without the help and support to scour such a rural area and try and get alerts out and speak to people as quickly as possible. Just wish there was some way to let Jaxx know we're looking for him. Hopefully the scenting will work and that he'll pick it up and manage to get home. Feeling positive and determined that it's only a matter of time. Thanks all - we're eternally grateful. X
Dawn
Poss sighting at Ashurst so about 10:30 I'll jog from Steyning up the railway line to PG, across to Lock Farm, down to Ashurst then cut back to the river from Horse Bridge Common. Late afternoon I'll walk the dogs up the river to PG then back down the railway line. Fingers crossed he'll be on the move now it's stopped raining. Dawn
Pixie
Thanks so much Angi, especially as I know you had a busy day - really good of you. Rabbits could have been Jaxx, certainly or, as you say, foxes. Going to try some scenting from Ashurst back home but weather appalling today. It's look set for the night but clearing up tomorrow so tomorrow p.m. is ideal. Where you saw the river go under the road is the lane to West Grinstead and into PG.Jaxx knows that part of the river home. There's a large property there with a huge amount of acreage. The lady there knows and rides (or her groom does)every day. He could certainly get home if he got over there and remembers the area. Thanks again Angi; let's hope there's something soon. xx
STORM70
Just a thought, but what if your friend (I think you said her name was Sue) walked her dog from Washington/ashurst along the river or other route back to your home, would Jaxx maybe pick up the sent.
angi
The timing of that possible sighting fits in well with when he was seen last at the footbridge over the A24.Where he went from there is the key! Today we went via devils dyke area to Henfield ( you never know!) drove around and through to west grinstead. We intended to drive around a few lanes but found ourselves on the A24! so we drove down rookcross lane as far as we could. It runs out of road and you can only proceed on foot but there was nowhere to park safely so we headed back onto the A24. We the turned left by the garage and turned left into a lane a few miles along( pound lane I think) We then parked up and headed into the field towards Knepp castle. At this point there is a place where the river passes under the A24 and at the moment the river is so low that he could walk under the road. There are lots of places where branches and trees form what almost looks like man made dens. It is very quiet just a few deer and brown pigs! we found the remains of at least three rabbits half eaten. could have been a fox but equally could be jaxx. They had been there probably a week or so, no more.We also put up a few posters. We then drove home via dial post and Hole street area.xx
Pixie
No sign of him today but not surprised given the rain. After spending over 4 hours in it myself I hope he's managed to find somewhere to keep dry. When I popped into the Co-op when I got back I was chatting to the lad serving and he thinks he may have seen Jaxx around 4 days ago in Ashurst just north of the Fountain pub (i.e. PG-home-side)crossing the road very quickly form right to left. He said it was a flash and he did stop and look into the field but didn't see anything. Keep still Jaxx - we'll come and find you. Really do think he's trying to find home. So close my boy.
Pixie
I don't but my friend and my fiance are avid readers lol. Thanks for your help. Fingers crossed that we spot my spotty boy.
STORM70
lol just had a thought - does anybody here know of the wee free men aka the nac mac feegles? they are terry pratchett characters and they find anything anywhere, thats what we need a hurd of wee free men. lol oh and they also steal sheep we dont need that bit tho.
STORM70
ok pixie you do 4am and i will do 5am and simalar area, something might turn up - if you know what i mean.
7 hours you must be knackered, have a warm soak. i will post again tomorrow after going out. night all and good hunting, or as i was saying to my friend early we are jaxx seekers :)
Pixie
You're right. Need do be able to search like the police do so there's no area not being looked in at the same time. It is difficult to know where to go next. After 7 hours of walking today and not seeing a sausage, it's anyone's guess. This afternoon, I covered the area through Doves Farm, down to Wappington Wood, headed west then north through Guessgate Farm, then Hawking Sopers, through Kings Barn farm and back down to the car at Doves farm. managed to speak to a couple of people and put up a few more posters. Am heading out at 0400 for a drive through Honeybridge Lane, Spithandle, Wiston and then possibly over the footbridge again at Ashington, thinking that the different timing may help. Will then have a nap before heading out again, possibly to the east of the B2135 but haven't decided yet. Does make sense to cover different areas. Hope you enjoy the birthday party Angi and that your back doesn't give you too much grief. Quite happy with your ideas, as Angi says "as good a plan as any". Who knows! THANKS FOLKS. xx
STORM70
hi angi, good plan covering ground is good, i wish there was lots of people all looking at the same time then we might be able to "flush" him out. the trees and hedges are so thick and heavy with greenery at the moment its so hard to see much. i guess i will wait until there is an update from pixie as to where to look or what direction to head in.
angi
lol it's probably as good a plan as any!!!we will have only an hour or two tomorrow morning as got a family birthday party in the afternoon and my back is playing up!I thought we might investigate the area near the A24 river crossing but if there is any area you would like us to focus on we are very happy to do that.Would make sense if we all take a different area so as to cover more ground. xx
STORM70
Hi all, are there any plans for tomorrow or is it throw a dart at the map kind of plan !!
thinking i might get up early and start at ashington and then kind of spread out but not sure in which direction.
Pixie
Brilliant guys - thank you. The flattened area was about his size and poss from Thurs night as it was before the rain last night. However, could have been something else altogether. Back out for round 2 shortly - have been around the east side of Honeybridge Lane, between Sands Farm and Eder Farm, around the Capite and in a big circle back through Brookwood Farm. Spoke to the owner there and his wife who rides knows and is keeping a look out. Think going over to walk through Calcot Wood down to Wappingthorn Wood this p.m. and try to cover as much ground as poss. Contemplating an early morning (0400) to go for a recon as this is poss a more likely time to see him. Can't hurt. It's all an easy area for him to 'lose' himself in. Very frustrated!
STORM70
Hi,
I started at 8.45 drove honeybridge lane (twice) stopping at gateways and checking fields, I found the grass/bracken patch that someone mentioned but I don’t think it was Jaxx it could have been a deer, but the thing is there was a lot of taller bracken right next to this round patch any animal would have gone under that especially as it was raining hard last night. I do a bit of animal tracking and that didn’t look flat enough, (I could be wrong). Then I did spithandle lane, hole street and into Ashington had a good look around there but nothing, I went out on the rectory rd/ park lane, then mutton lane, A24 back up to Ashington then hole street back through spithandle. Not one sighting - sorry. I walked the link to honeybridge lane and spithandle up to the pond around beggars kennels, and I checked the gallop at the top of honeybridge lane near the campsite, thats where the grassy patch was.
I then went home for lunch but will check mill hill beeding hill and truliegh hill later on.
Good luck, and Jaxx dear friend can you please stop playing hide and seek.
Linda
Will be heading out over to Ashurst to walk OS explorer 122 Grid Reference 170,160-190,170. have your number in my phone.
Pixie
Am overwhelmed at how supportive and helpful everyone is being in giving up their time to find Jaxx. Another helper has posted on Jaxx's FB page that they found flattened bracken (dog-sized) near one of the finger posts off Honeybridge Lane last night; going to find out exactly where are go over there today. If he is up that way it is not far cross-country back to PG and he would recognise from the top of Locke Lane as he has been walked over that way lots of times before. For info, my number is the first one above. Hopefully there'll be a sighting or some evidence and I will let you know. If you do use FB you can search for Jaxx Klewagin; I do try and cross-post onto here as well. Fingers crossed this weekend will be positive! Thanks all. xxLast edited: 2011-06-11 08:42:21 by Pixie

also text me if you get a sighting. I'm not about Sunday afternoon but other than that I can come any time. I'm also at home a lot of this week so could come out most days in the day time if he's spotted. We just need a sighting and we'll be there like a shot!!
Dawn
Just got in from jogging from Spit Handle Lane, Ashurst, North to the A24 at Ashington and criss-crossing back across country - no sight of him. I'll text you my numbers, I'm in Steyning, if you get a sighting evenings or weekends call me at any hour if you need another pair of eyes. Dawn

Sorry I am not close enough to help but I do keep checking to see how things are going. Liz xx

have been studying an online ordnance survey map to try and figure out how he got to penn gardens in the first place and got over the A24 other than the foot bridge he was seen crossing. He could have crossed the A24 via the river further north. It shows 2 river bridges close to each other not far from west grinstead. They lead to a largish lake. he could then follow the river/streams all the way to penn gardens very close by. Once across the foot bridge he could either go down towards the areas Storm70 mentioned or up to pick the river up again. there is a point where he can either carry on up tantalisingly close to partridge green or over further still following the river to Henfield. Once past partridge green he is on route for the crossing under the A24. Around this lake thingy he could carry on up towards christs hospital area or down to Ashington, This pattern forms the more classic triangle. the only thing we can't guess is how long he takes to get from one point to the other! Following the downward triangle is also possible but more populated so he would be more likely to be seen.Come on Jaxx show yourself again boy! xxLast edited: 2011-06-10 23:15:36 by angi

Hi Storm, thank you for looking today. Home is actually Partridge Green. Kennels were in Bolney (on A272) but he did make his way to Henfield, then Upper Beeding then not seen for 3 weeks when he was seen in Ashington. Happy for you to look there; it's certainly as good a place as any as he could have gone in any direction when he crossed the footbridge at Ashington. You're right-he cannot hide forever but he's not making it easy. Really appreciate your help - it really does make a difference. Fingers crossed it's going to be this weekend!
STORM70
hi, just to let you know i walked through spithandle lane today (pm) and drove back through coombes rd and no sighting.
can you tell me where jaxx comes from, i understand he was in kennels in henfield when he went missing but where is home?
tomorrow (sat) i will go out looking again around wiston and truliegh hill unless there is somewhere else you would like me to look - just say so and i will go their no problem. we are going to find this little man, he can not hide for ever.
tak care

Pixie
That's brilliant - thank you Storm70 - very helpful of you. After 6 weeks it's time for him to come home!
STORM70
Hi all, just wanted to say that i am based in shoreham but i am at mill hill/truliegh hill/ spithandle/ wiston/ bramber area everyday. so i will be keeping my eyes open for Jaxx. i really hope he is found soon. good luck.
Pixie
Tonight's cycling and 'off-roading' hasn't brought any sightings but again we've all been spreading the word, handing out cards and postering so the chances are greater. Need another sighting soon to confirm the direction he's headed in. He's not keeping still for long! Tomorrow's another day as they say - let's hope for fresh sightings. Thanks for all the continued help and support.
Pixie
Posting on Jaxx's FB page from one of Jaxx's 'hunters' - have been out this morning spreading the word & postering South of the footbridge down to Chanctonbury, Washington, etc. There is a road between the A24 & A283(Washington to Steyning rd) called The Hollow which is surrounded by 100s of acres of quarry. Been into both contractors still working there & they have posters & will look for Jaxx. Also contacted Wiston Estate, Kneep Castle & some farmers, so we now have 1000's of acres being watched :) Will go out later & poster a few other tracks/lanes towards the A24. Just had feedback from Wiston & Kneep & emails & txts have been sent out to 100's of workers, rental properties on & tenant farmers :) People are being soooo helpful :)
Pixie
Hi Julie - it is a relief to know he's okay but he's not hanging around places too long, making it difficult to pinpoint where he's going next. The footbridge in question is the one behind to co-op and the housing estate there. An e-mail will be going out to the parish on Fri and the local village wardens are aware, as are many now in Ashington so if he does go back there at some point alerts will come quickly. A friend is contacting the Wiston Estate today as a lot of the land in between Ashington, Wiston and Ashurst is owned by them and there is logging in the estate. The longer he's out there the 'wilder' he's getting which will keep him away from human activity but even a glimpse would help. Will continue searching around there and hope. First ad today and Friday-Ad tomorrow - they will not have new sighting details but hopefully the timing will help. X
Julie B
Sorry that you have had no sightings today - but the main thing is he is still out there and in the area. I am sure that now you have had some sightings - with the adverts in the papers tomorrow and Friday he is sure to be seen again very soon and then hopefully it will be in a more built up area where you can keep tabs on him and bring him home. You are working so hard Pixie along with others and it will pay off in the end. You must feel happier knowing that he is looking fit and in good shape - that is one less thing to worry about. When you say the bridge by the A24 in Ashington - do you mean by Tospell Motors ? Have they been told about Jaxx - only if not I used to have dealings with them a few years ago when I worked for the newspaper and I could always give them a ring for you ? I know it must be hard but try and get some rest yourself as Jaxx will be sure to be wanting lots of mummy love when he gets home. Will be watching for hopefully some good news tomorrow. Julie xLast edited: 2011-06-08 22:37:58 by Julie B
Heather
Hi. Driven up and down School Lane that leads into Peppers Lane and stopped off at every field gap! Nothing but lots of horses. Went into Honeybridge Caravan Park but nobody in the office. Would be worth getting a poster in there. Another thought, on both sides of Peppers Lane are signs saying Wiston Estate and West Grinstead Estate. Would they have gardeners or estate managers that might be able to look out for Jaxx?
Pixie
So back at home now without any sightings at all today. Think complete area between Ashington and Ashurst has been covered as far as is possible and everyone that has been seen has been told about Jaxx. Pub in Thakeham covered as well as popular with walkers. It is anyone's guess as to where he could be in that area. The hope is that he may head back to Henfield or even up to the top end of PG (home) but he certainly has not headed back to Ashington today. He is being sensible and keeping out of people's way and given he has a plentiful bunny supply is clearly keeping himself fed. Hope it's not too long before another sighting so we can at least be able to track a rough path/direction. It has been a long day - thanks to Sue, Keith, Vanessa, Heather, Angi, Eileen and Tony for help today - couldn't have managed it all on my own and thanks to everyone for their moral support. x
PaulaK
Watching and waiting here - come on Jaxx give yourself up!
Pixie
Well, people have been looking for him for 8 hours today already, and all of Ashington has been looked around, the fields (many! of them) and woods have been searched to the east of the A24 and west of Ashurst inc. Wiston, Spithandle etc. and loads more people have been alerted along the way but to no avail at the moment. My theory is that if he's going to return to Ashington later, he'll have to cross the footbridge so lingering around that area in wait might be a logical action plan. The fields and woods we've covered are again remote so it's no wonder he hadn't been seen for a while; was just hoping to happen upon him but no such luck. going to grab some food and then head out again shortly. He must be the most elusive dog on the planet!
LizzieT
What a little tinker! I live 5 mins from Ashington and have been going into Henfield to look for him - I should have stayed closer to home! Keeping everything crossed for you Pixie and all you wonderful people trying to find him. Hope he gives himself up soon. Will keep my eyes peeled on my way home if he's still out there! Good luck xxx
Pixie
Thanks for trying though Heather. I can do the poster at The Fountain as will be going past there at some point today. x
Heather
Sorry but Ashurst school did not want to accept an email for a flier to put up or go in childrens bags. Can anyone pop a poster into The Fountain Inn in Ashurst?
Pixie
Managed to get day's holiday, just got back from work and ready to going searching. Vanessa, another helper, is already out there. No sightings come through this a.m. but if he is where we think then there won't really be any. Angi, let me know when you're out later. x
ML
I keep checking back on Jaxx and am so pleased there has been more sightings. Time to give up on your adventure now Jaxx and get back home in the warm. good luck. xxx
angi
I will help you look tomorrow evening. I will text you so can let me know where to look or put up posters. The game is over Jaxx we are coming to take you home! Xx
angi
I'm so annoyed I'm working my 1st wed in ages 2moro ! If he's been in the area between henfield & ashington all this time explains why no sightings. Loss of woods and virtually no houses . Something must be drawing him over the bridge 2 those houses. I know he is neutered but they still like the smell of a lady!
Pixie
Great idea Heather. Sue is going to call the local village wardens as well. More people that know the better. Thank you. x
Heather
Shall I make contact with Ashurst school tomorrow - they may be able to get a flier out in book bags?

Remember he has been wild for a bit, so go carefully when you see him. Sometimes dogs don't immediately recognise owners after having a wild few weeks surviving on their own, so let him come to you gently - or a trap if necessary. You are so close - you are doing fantastically well! Almost there! x
Pixie
Thanks to everyone for your your support and well wishes - hopefully Jaxx will be feeling so many positive vibes and the words ' come home' that he'll surely be found soon. X

Might be worth another 'scenting session' if he is close to home
Pixie
Just got back - don't have him yet. we found out where he went though; he's now gone out of Ashington over the footbridge that spans to A24 towards Ashurst so near to home. Just follow the river north Jaxx! So frustrating. A lady who lives in Penn Gardens is going to leave some food and I have left her his blanket with the smell of home. They have local village wardens in Ashington so a friend is going to call them as I have to go to work :( but will be back scouring the area again tomorrow eve, all depending on what calls we get. Lots more people know about him and have details so here's hoping. Just can't believe we were so close. He's gone back into a very wooded area now but he's going to be closer to home. Feeling slightly hyper now; just come home, enough is enough.
Heather
Ashington has been invaded!! Posted loads of cards, rung on all doors in Penn Gardens and found the lady who had seen him this morning. She is sure it was Jaxx. Also gave cards to a gentleman who I think worked at the school. Emailed Ashington C of E school with a poster. They are going to display tomorrow. Lady I spoke to also knows someone who lives in Penn Gardens who will keep an eye out.
Come on Jaxx - come home. xx
lina
Fantastic news. Now just for you to get sight of him! I've seen that you're previously written on Doodley Dogs facebook page, definitely should mention this recent sighting on there due to the close proximity.
Everything crossed that your next post brings happy news xx

Wondered if the lady would also let you put his dog bed in her garden?
Julie B
OMG - I am so pleased that he has been sighted. He has gone quite a way and stayed safe what a clever boy. I have a friend that lives in Ashington - she lives in Warminghurst Close (a road just opposite Ashington Auto's). I am not sure if this is where Penn Gardens is - but I will let her know that he is around that area and for her to keep a look out for him. Your continuous hard work is paying off Pixie and you will hopefully have your gorgeous boy home very soon. Julie x

Oh please let this be the break through that you are looking for - come on Jaxx time to come home

I think that Lizzy's suggestion of asking home owner to put food out is a sound one - if you can get him coming back at regular times you stand a good chance of being able to use a trap or lure him back in - fingers crossed here xLast edited: 2011-06-07 20:33:30 by Angus

Great news. Come on Jaxx, time to come home boy :) Good luck with the scenting
Jackie
Come on Jaxx it's time to give yourself up... we to had a dalmation when we were kids... they are very good at fending for themselves, our Major used to run off (he was a rescue who had been kept in a shed and not had many walks) so if ever he got the chance he was off.. my dad was the local policeman so people knew him and we used to get phonecalls to say where he was seen.. we spent many hours rounding him up... luckily he grew out of it as he got older but he could run for miles... hope you get him home soon Pixie, will be watching this page xxx
Linda
Oh i do hope it's him..worrying to think he's crossed the A24, but he's far enough away from it now if he stays around there. Please stay safe Jaxx. x

Come on Jaxx - give yourself up. Don't worry about getting excited I think we all would if it were our dog. Maybe you could ask the lady if you could set up a food station in her garden, as this would bring him back on a regular basis. Good luck. Liz xxLast edited: 2011-06-07 18:39:01

...and he's be there this a.m. approx 0900. Will be scenting there tonight and will go over early a.m. to 'loiter'. Got to stop getting overly excited in anticipation. Everything is crossed.
Pixie
Just had call from lady who lives in Penn Gardens, Ashington. She saw Jaxx on Sun eve just wandering in and out of gardens, looking fit and healthy and happy for himself. Needless to say will be out there tonight. Fingers crossed.
Pixie
Hi Julie - fortunately Jaxx is a strong swimmer and loves water; he can panic a little if he can't get out but I don't think he'll have any problems to be honest. I am going to try the radio - not had any joy e-mailing them so will be giving them a call this week. Fingers crossed. x
Julie B
I am so sorry that Jaxx is still missing. I didnt realise that there was a pond at the field he was sighted at in Furners Lane. It was my boss that saw Angi there yesterday and took her to the field. She said that the pond is quite deep. Was Jaxx a strong swimmer and do you think he may have attempted to cross it ? I really hope that the new adverts this week bring in some sightings as at least then you will be able to pinpoint him down. You may have already done it - but had tried Heart Radio and Southern Counties Radio to see if they will put it out for you that he is missing ? Hoping for some good news very soon. Stay strong ... you will find him. Julie x
Pixie
Hi Lina. Thank you for looking out for Jaxx; it is heartbreaking that he's not back with us yet and that there have been no sightings for almost a month. Everything just feels so wrong without him. Thanks for the tip - I did see a notice tonight whist I was out looking for Jaxx. I'll have to find out the venues. Hopefully the ads will bring something. Will keep on going - he's out there somewhere.
lina
Hi, I’m sorry you still haven’t found Jaxx. It must be heart breaking especially with no recent sightings. I walk my dog most evenings along the river by Betley Bridge and we’ve been looking out for him since the first Henfield sighting but sadly no luck as yet.
I was thinking that this weekend is the Gardens & Arts Festival which will bring a lot of people from the surrounding areas into Henfield so it might be worth asking if you can put up posters at some of the venues? Got everything crossed for you and Jaxx.
Pixie
Will be ads this week in Friday-Ad (the 3 that cover the whole area) and WSCT again - with photos and a 'Have you seen me?' If nothing else, it'll continue to increase awareness. Hopefully have some replies on e-mail when get home and have a reply from The Countryman's Weekly - sure that's a very popular publication in our area.Last edited: 2011-06-06 13:20:43 by Pixie

the problem is the area has loads of water sites....and stacks of bunnies...and very few people about at all. There is also a lot of land that can't be accessed. The crops are high so the fields even make good cover now.
We need to look at every possibility and so I have also had a look at ads just in case someone has picked him up.There is this one that would be worth investigating. Could be genuine but it's very very odd and stands out. No description or picture.I've got used to smelling a rat since being a helper on here! You can ask them to email or send picture to your mobile. x

Thank you Angi, that was very kind and helpful of you, especially bumping into the lady that had seen him and that you were able to get into that area. As you say, I am certain that he would have been sniffed out by your dog if he'd been there. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be another path that can access the other pond, well for humans at least. I know that stables and horse riders have been spoken to about him and certainly the schools in Steyning and PG. Thought the rain might flush him out today but it's actually probably keeping him hidden. You've probably noticed that it's like looking for a needle in a haystack, in that there are so many places he could be hidden. I don't know how dogs behave when they've been out on their own for so long without human contact but I hope that he's going to show his face soon. Almost a month now without anything :( Thank you so much for your help again. x
angi
was thinking also schools are back tomorrow and would be a good place to contact as kids are very observant and they all know dalmations. Lots of little eyes! x

Hi, went up to henfield today for another long walk. We started off in Furners lane again but took the right path near the house selling plants outside this time. followed the path for quite a while then crossed by a few fields then into woods. We cut deep into the woods including a fern forest! dog loved that!Met at least half dozen people this time! talked to everyone we passed. All had seen the posters and 2 who said they walked miles every day had your number in their phone incase of a sighting. We then crossed back over Furners lane much further down and followed a path that led us back to the area we covered last week. On the way back we met a lady who turned out to be the one who made one of the sightings. She took us to the exact spot she saw Jaxx in a field next to furners lane. I then went with her to the house that owns the field( a friend of hers )and they allowed us to go into the field to the hidden pond wher Jaxx was heading when she saw him. We managed to get to the first pond although bordered by thick undergrowth..mainly nettles...it was then I was reminded I had only put trainer socks on this morning instead of my usual thick walking socks .lol..The dog went in and swum to the other side.He flushed out a few ducks so if anything there I think he would have flushed it out! There is another pond behind the first one but we couldn't get to it there was no way round at all. maybe ther would be a way from the path that runs down the side of the field. I walked round as far as I could and when i was out of sight my hubbie had the dog and he barked like a loony to follow me so again if anything had been there I think it would have flushed it out.You have probably already contacted stables etc but as we did see lots of horse droppings even in the woods and as they go out early in the morning they would be a good point of contact. x
Pixie
Jaxx now posted (or v soon will be) on www.animalwardens.co.uk
Pixie
Thanks Heather. It's great that people are seeing the posters and it's not often I speak to someone who doesn't already know, except in more remote places and I don't see anyone there anyway. Definitely not giving up! He can't hide forever. xx
Pixie
Got the bike out today and went up to Wineham/Twineham to have a look around the area where he first went missing. Had a good look around in the fields and found the sub-station where he was seen on 1st May. Got some more posters up and left one at the Royal Oak and the mobile home park in Wineham. Thinking that he may eventually try and find his way back to the kennels from where he bolted. I don't think he'll be able to find home as it's unlikely he'll stumble on it given he went missing from an area he doesn't know. Still think he could be out there; we just don't have a clue as to where he could be now after almost a month without a sighting and the whole area is as rural as it gets. It has been too hot for him the past few days to really be out in the day so it's unlikely he'll get noticed if he's out at night. Or someone else has picked him up and has decided to hang on to him. Hope this isn't the case and will continue searching/postering and keeping a close eye on any Dalmations I see about just in case someone has decided to keep him. Hope I can post some good news soon.
Heather
Hi.Went to Devil's Dyke on Thursday evening and spent long time in the valley. Posters up and everybody I spoke to had seen them. Just got to keep going... Don't give up. H xx
angi
there is a busy canoe club at Shoreham with a club house by the bridge at ropetackle. There may also be one further up the river not sure though.
Mollys Army
This may be/sound strange, plus I don't know the area, but can you contact a canoe/kayak group or club? They may be able to paddle the river and see things that you cannot see from the footpaths.
Kelly
Hi im not from your area, but im a dog warden for west mids area, I havent read all your posts below so forgive me if this has been mentioned, but have you thought of getting a trap if Jaxx is around one area, it may help you to catch him, the rspca have fox traps that will catch a dog, or a local rescue may have one, hope this helps and my prays are with you xxx
Pixie
Went to Oreham Common tonight; put a couple of more posters up and managed to speak to someone else at least. Going to try looking later on in the evening when it's getting dark, in case he's in hiding during the day and venturing out a bit later. Hanging on in there!
Pixie
Thanks Lizzie. Saw a Dalmation myself as well myself yesterday (not Jaxx though) but you're heart does skip a beat. Thanks for keeping your eyes open. Been up to Chanctonbury Ring tonight but did not see a soul, just lots of woods but at least got a few more posters up. It's like looking for the proverbial needle in a haystack. SO frustrating but he's out there somewhere. Thanks for your continued support and help. x
LizzieT
Just a quick line to say we walked from Botolphs up to Bramber along the river on Sunday on the look out for Jaxx. Heart nearly missed a beat when a Dalmatian came trotting along the footpath near the old cement works. Unfortuntely it was with a couple and three kiddies so assumed it wasn't your lovely boy. I did call 'Jaxx' under my breath but my hubby told me not to be so silly!! We are looking out for him all the time and so hoping he is seen/found soon. You must be exhausted. Keep strong xx
Pixie
Have covered west of A281 around Bottings Farm down to Betley Bridge and then on the opposite side through Shermanbury Place up to Kent St. (approx) at Wineham and then back on the opposite side of the river by Shiprods and Nyman Farm and have put a few more posters up along the way but whilst I've covered around 7 miles I haven't seen a thing. All I've managed to see are lots more fields and wooded areas. Getting used to the frustration and disappointment but still hoping for good news. Thanks for the info Amps - he does not like fireworks at all so if he was around I am sure he will have tried to get away from the noise. This and a storm is what I am fearing right now but it might also make him come out into the open. Thanks for keeping an eye out, it's very helpful and kind of you.
Amps
Just a quick note to say there has been some loud noises around the common the last few nights including fire works, so not sure but this could have scared jaxx away if he was nr by the fireworks where at the Village Hall I think, that direction anyway and I think theres been a few parties on the other side of the common (south side) but not 100% sure.
I'm keeping my eye out and nothing so far
Linda
sorry only just logged back in, royal oak is in wineham lane, right next to caravan/mobile home site,it is featured in a pub walks book so gets a lot of walkers.
Pixie
Hi Linda - thanks very much for looking. Which is the Royal Oak?
Linda
Have done a circle walk from the pub royal oak, brings you back behind old mobile home site, couldn't poster for you as no printer but a lot of farms and isolated houses, perhaps the pub will take some flyers and put up poster as dog lovers, and also the sales office at the mobile home site next door has dogs.
Pixie
Thanks for the update angi and also for taking time today to help us - it is very much appreciated. Stefan walked up the river from the A283 from Bramber all the way to the Downs Link at the Cat & Canary in Henfield and I covered just the S-E of Henfield around Holdean Farm and then over to Woodmancote Place, through the church and up through Blackstone continuing East a little more but neither of us saw a thing. Neither of us any people to speak of whilst we were out either. Tomorrow I'm going to look north of Henfield and the B2116 towards Wineham as I haven't been over there yet. Hopefully, the more and more people are aware, the more we have a chance of an all important sighting and a greater chance of getting him back. x
angi
we had a really long walk today. We covered a lot of ground between the main high st through henfield and the B2116 henfield road. We started at Furners lane taking a footpath to the left of the house that sells plants outside. We walked down to the little river area then over towards the henfield road in the Albourne direction. We then walke back over to the main part of henfield via many fields, woods, streams etc. We only met a few people but made them aware and put up a few more posters. no sign of Jaxx at all :-( if he had been hiding anywhere near where we walked out dog would have sniffed him out. One couple we met walk for miles around the area every day including the river towards bramber and they are now looking out.x
Julie B
Was just checking to see if there was any news on Jaxx. Still early days for calls as maybe some people dont read the local paper until the weekend. So hopefully still will hear something. Just need 1 sighting so that we know which area he is in. At least the weather has cooled down slightly for him and as long as he has water around him and bunnies which he could eat then he will be fine until he is found bless him. Fingers crossed for a sighting very soon. Julie x
Pixie
We haven't seen a thing on our travels today and there haven't been any calls from the ad. He's obviously having too much fun hiding away! Still hoping for some positive news soon.

Email in Admin from owner:

Thank you and the team at doglost for your support so far; can you amend the text further on the poster please?

The text on the poster should now read:

"Missing from Bolney (nr. Haywards Heath) on Saturday 30th April. Sightings in Henfield and Upper Beeding during May"

At the moment how the poster reads could be misleading because RH17 is just the postcode where he went missing and he has not been sighted in this area since.......

Details updated to show up on the DL poster, fingers crossed we see Jaxx in the BLUE soon. Good luck. Jan x
Julie B
Pixie, my heart nearly missed a beat then when I saw sighted by his name. I thought that you had a new sighting of him. That was a good advert in the paper today - it was on a page where lots of people will be looking. This is where hopefully the sightings will start to come in. Dont lose heart and keep positive - not only have you put posters up everywhere, the advert and also the fact that he is microchipped is sure to bring him back home to you very soon. There are dogs missing for a long time and they are reunited in time ...your time will come. Keeping everything crossed that you get that phone call that we are all waiting for. Julie x
Pixie
Hi Jackie - thanks for your post. Unfortunately Jaxx did not go missing whilst in our care and doesn't know the area where he went missing. If he stays around the area then he isn't too far from home but the area is so rural with some areas very sparsely populated that there are less chances of more sightings. Our fingers are crossed permanently. You're right in that normal life does not seem normal at the moment and it is a struggle. It's still early days in some ways; people have told me stories about dogs missing for quite some time but still making it home. Have to keep hopeful. He is missed terribly but everyone has been so helpful and supportive that it eases the pain a little. Hope we have some good news to report before too much longer. xx
Jackie
We had a damation when we were kids, Major was a rescue and had been kept in a shed till we got him aged about 2years... he was awful for escaping, my dad was the local policeman and we often had a local farmer or someone ringing up and letting us know they had him... he managed quite well at catching things to eat but they are stubborn dogs when it comes to catching them.. happily he grew out of it but we had him for 13 years and I still miss him, he was our first dog... hope he gets caught soon and you can carry on your family life.. it gets put on a back burner when they are missing, will be checking up on him and hoping to see him in the blue soon xxx

I would like to add that there have been sightings in Henfield (BN5 area) and Upper Beeding, Steyning (BN44 area) between 5th and 11th May,
angi
when I now look at the ordnance survey map of the area now I see a resevoir to the left of Furners lane as you go down it with a footpath leading down to the river. There is then a reasonable sized wood on the other side of the river he could hide in.I was almost ther today but wasn't sure of my bearings so missed it! After the first Henfield sighting he must have followed the small river over to the main river Adur and down almost to Shoreham. It's probably safe to say he followed it back up where he was seen again. This area is very safe and quiet and I saw a few bunnies today even in broad daylight so loads of food. about.http://getamap.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/getamap/frames.htm
Pixie
Hi angi. Very kind of you to use your free time in the 'hunt' for Jaxx. I am also amazed how big Henfield is and I think I know it more than where I live now. As you say, an easy place to hide away and also a safe place. I think he will keep to an area where he knows there's water but given the Adur runs through the whole area that's a lot of area. He was seen coming up from the river on the A283 so it's certainly an important thing to consider. There are a lot of places alongside the river that are not accessible and then a lot which see quite a few walkers. Not sure what our strategy is going to be over the next few days and weekend but I'm hoping that lots of people will be out over the bank holiday and even if he is hiding, there might be a glimpse so that we can target an area. As you say, so frustrating! Thank you so much angi. xx
angi
Had day off today so drove up to Henfield via the Devils Dyke area. I visited Partridge Geen first of all and had a long chat with the lady in the pet shop. I was then going to go to West Grinstead but she said the dog walker she knows covers the area daily and had no sightings so decided to go back to henfield. Walked a long way down Furners lane and also explored some of the footpaths off it. Saw quite a few posters. I ended up walking for miles and put up another couple of posters further down the lane.I wasn't expecting to see him as I expect he lays low during the day but I was hoping to see a few people to spread the word. But in over 2 hours I didn't see a single sole! I thought I knew Henfield fairly well as we nearly bought a house here a few years ago but this particular area is new to me. I can understand why there have been no sighting if he is in the area because it is so quiet and although there are public footpaths a lot of the land is private. From a doggy point of view a clever boy but for us very fustrating!! The other area I was going to visit was Albourne but ran out of time. I expect you probably have covered this area anyway. My thinking is if he is in this area he could also be moving up and down the river that is beyond Furners lane.Good luck with the paper tomorrow xx
Pixie
Unfortunately, there were no signs from last night's outing. Tried around the area off Furners's Lane by the pond, used the whistle and called for him but there wasn't any movement. Then tried around the river at Bramber and there were several people out and at least got a couple of posters up. He has a couple of weeks on us though. Desperate for someone to see him or see the ad tomorrow. The Henfield area is certainly well covered so at least if he's seen there, notification will come quickly. Missing him terribly!
LizzieT
I nipped into Henfield at lunchtime and walked from Furners Mead across the common to Swains Farm. Had a good old snoop around the woods but only saw posters I'm afraid. Will keep on looking on my travels. Do hope he shows himself soon xx
angi
I've alerted someone I know that walks her dog every evening along the river near the cement works sighting usually later when it's quiet just incase he goes back there. x
Pixie
Hi Amps - your offer to look is those areas is very much appreciated. Jaxx does bark - not all the time but because he is deaf in one ear he can get confused about where a sound it coming from and will bark. He would possibly come if called but I have been advised that dogs become wary of humans after they've been away from them, even after a short period. He is very food-orientated though and knows the word food. Seems as though this would be a good place to hide and I would imagine after the near miss with a car a couple of weeks ago near Upper Beeding he would have been scared and possibly made his way back up to Henfield. It is certainly worth keeping an eye on this area and we'll get out there to investigate. Thanks for your help Amps.
Amps
no problem Pixie,I would say the bark comes from the furners lane (furners mead end) direction from the sand pit, and in that direction there is a pond then a few fields before the lane. Its def a bark compared to a woof/yap Megan is a small collie x so i can tell its not a small dog also I have had Dobermans in the past boy and girl and i would say it was a boy bark, does he bark alot at home? I When Megan get out I can tell where she is as she barks at the rabbits all the time. I have just popped out and i get a good view of the fields going down towards Furners lane behind the Hill's Farm so I'm happy to pop along there a few times as its a mins walk for me, I was down nr the pond earlier and no sign. Unfortunately I do have walking probs so I cant walk too far, but i'm happy to do those 2 areas. I've just looked on goggle maps and the pond area behind me is very dense, but there is noway of getting into there, also there is the sandpit and there actually is a shelter kids have built which is fab if he finds that as it stay dry and there are hundreds of rabbits. Do you think he would come if he is called or would he be too scared ?

I'll keep my ears open tomorrow and if i hear that bark i will go hunt it down lol If he is nr this area i'm sure he will be seen soon
Pixie
Thank you Amps. The sightings on the 5th May were the Henfield side of the Albourne Rd and then in a field off Furner's Lane. Unfortunately, we do not have a location for the sighting on 11th. So many people have been all around that area but no-one I know has seen him. I have noticed that there a lots of places to hide out so he could still be around there; it's certainly safe for him with access to water and a food source (plenty of rabbits). You are helping us greatly by being aware and keeping a look out. It would be useful to know where the barking is coming from but I know it is very difficult to pinpoint a direction. It is certainly very interesting that you've noticed a different bark. I know I get used to the barks I hear near home. Thank you for your help.
Julie B
Hi Pixie, I am glad that you have got the advert in the paper this week. There are more and more people coming onto Doglost on Jaxxs page now - and something positive must be just round the corner. I wonder if Jaxx has headed back to Henfield - do you think that is possible ? I wonder if that bark has anything to do with Jaxx which Amps has mentioned - if it is that would be fantastic. I think you will get a lot more sightings from Thursday when it is in the paper ..... maybe not many people .... but someone must be seeing him at some point. I really do hope that something comes to light this week and Jaxx is on his way home very soon. I have made the people at work today aware that he is still missing. From Henfield they also travel all the way through to Horsham every day - so if he was heading this side of Henfield they may see him at some point - but hopefully he has settled back into Henfield where at least he will be safe and away from main roads. Stay strong Pixie and Jaxx you stay safe young man. Julie xx
Amps
Hi, I was wondering if you know where Jaxx was seen recently in Henfield, i live on the common actually on the footpaths one leading to Furners lane and i haven't seen him. But I do hear a different bark in the evenings now and then, its normally just 2 barks then that is it. I've always got my eyes and ear open as i hardly leave home, also my dog make me aware of what she sees/ hears. If i know he has defiantly been seen on North Common, cricket pitch, Hills farm, furners lane, I will pop out in the late evening more for you, also my gardner take my dog out every morning and hasn't see him and he walks along furners lane. Hope this helps
Pixie
Advert will be in Dog section of Classifieds in Thurs edition in WSCT. May have to try others too but this covers a wide area. Steyning Police have called me to confirm no reported incidents in the last month as well. Out again tonight - as always fingers are crossed. Thanks for your help Lizzie; will be looking around this area tonight so I'll pop a poster through. x
LizzieT
Pixie, if you are looking in the Steyning, Washington area, there is a lovely tea room in the old post office building in Water Lane, Wiston, just off the main Steyning to Washington road. I gave them a quick call this morning to let them know Jaxx may be in the area and have e-mailed them a poster (I hope it got through OK). Maybe put a poster through the letter box just in case if you are anywhere near this evening?? The lady I spoke to was very kind and said she would keep an eye open. It is a very popular stop off for walkers so you never know!! Keeping everything crossed he is found soon. Good luck xxLast edited: 2011-05-23 11:50:57 by LizzieT

I am so sorry that you have not found Jaxx. I live in Steyning and I have kept a look out for Jaxx when I have been walking my dogs and also when driving around as I frequently use the Steyning/Shoreham/Henfield triangle. He is such a distinctive dog it is amazing that he has not been seen more often. There are many notices up in this area, if there is anything more I can do please let me know.
Pixie
That would be very helpful ravenette - thank you. The more people that see the posters and know about it the more chance we have of someone seeing him. Thanks again for your help.
DogLostRavenette - Area Co-ordinator - West Sussex
You could put posters up at carparks and entrances to popular walks on the downs as a lot of dog walkers and ramblers etc use these. I will be at The Trundle and Cissbury Ring next week and will happily put posters up if you like. I spoke to a friend today who has a shop in Henfield and he will be spreading the word. I really hope that you find him soon x
Pixie
Thanks everyone for all your advice; this is very very useful and will certainly help with targeting where to cover next. Will go over to Steyning/Washington area tomorrow after work. I can see some footpaths to cover. There are posters up around the Steyning area as well. The word is certainly out in Henfield; just need to do the same all over. There are some posters out at Devil's Dyke; as this is a very popular area hopefully people will see the posters and if they see Jaxx wherever they live, they will put 2 and 2 together. Continuing to spread the word would be very helpful - thanks everyone.

Julie,Washington is heading over to Storrington justbefore the A24. Inland from Angmering which is on the coast past Worthing.Ther are virtually no houses at all between Steyning and Washington so if he was roaming this area it would explain no sightings even a white dog with black spots!. Chantonbury ring is very popular with walkers and doggy people and Wiston is a popular country house. If he came up from the river he could have equally come down from henfield or across from Washington. It is less likely he came from the direction of Devils Dyke but he may have headed that way after the sighting at the cement works but if the sighting in Henfield in the 11th is true he more than likely came from the washington area then headed up to Henfield ...if that makes sense!. I say washington because the A24 is very close by and it is very unlikely he crossed over this very busy road. Under the triangle rule he would head back to Henfield at some stage and you have that area well covered. If my theory is correct and I could be totally in the wrong direction! he should be somewhere between Washington and the cement works at the moment.xLast edited: 2011-05-22 19:50:27 by angi

Hi this Sharon, Sams owner, I ride around saddlescombe and Jack and Jill so will keep me eye out for jaxx, hoping to see Sam as well.

Pixie, I am so glad that you have some sort of positive news today. What you need now are some sightings of Jaxx and they will come very soon I am sure. The advert in the West Sussex County Times will be good and the distribution area of this goes right out to Henfield and also Steyning I think. Like I say I dont really know the area over your way very much - but if Jaxx has headed out towards Steyning and Shoreham then the Mid Sussex Times will also be a good idea to put an advert in and then you will have all possible areas covered where Jaxx is likely to be. Like the advert size of the missing cat which you saw in the WSCT this last week would be perfect. When you get in touch with them try and knock them down with the price as they sometimes will go slightly lower ... especially if you have the 2 papers they will do you a deal. The advert for the Mid Sussex Times has to be placed on Monday to get this week and the West Sussex County Times needs to be placed on Tuesday at the latest. But the one telephone which you ring will be able to help you with both papers. The only reason I know all of this is because I used to work for them 7 years ago - so have some background of how they work. At work tomorrow I will have a look to see if I have any companies which we deal with over that way and if so I will email them and ask if they would pass it round the office - that may help make more people aware of Jaxx. However, I think you are doing a fab job as my office manager only said on Friday that wherever she goes in Henfield she sees posters for Jaxx so that is good - and of course she is still looking out for him when walking her own dogs across the fields. Is Washington near Angmering ? Only 2 of my work colleagues come from over that way and I can let them know he has maybe gone in their direction. I feel quite positive now that this week you will be closer to getting your gorgeous boy home. Like I said before if there is anything I can do from this end please let me know. because the majority of lost dogs settle into a rough triangle you could look at the map to try and predict his third point assuming Henfield and the cement works are two points( this I know is not certain). The most likely third points would either be the area around washington which includes Chantonbury hill and Wiston in one direction and Saddlescoombe in the other. It must so fustrating for because the area is so rural in many places. My offer of help is there just please let me know. x
angi
Hi i do know this area very well and the area is an old cement works right next to the river. from there he could go up river towards Steyning or inland across the downs to henfield or Devils Dyke. they used to have guard dogs at the cement works to keep out the travellers not sure if they still do. There is still some business going on there a skip company and an office.x

Pixie, I am glad that you are managing to get some news albeit a while after the event so to speak - what interests me from your post is the mention of a quarry, these quarries have in the past proved very safe areas for lost dogs to call 'home' normally water pools and plentiful supply of bunnies - coordinator TracyB now has a dog who happily lived within the confines of a quarry for several months before being caught in a trap, It would be interesting if you can get permission to lay food in this area with a view to setting a trap in the future if this proves to be the right area
Pixie
This morning's card drop proved fruitful. Had a call from one lady who told me that there was an accident but it was at the end of March; her neighbour went out to help and she moved at the beginning of April. I then had a call off a guy who had near miss with a Dalmation approx 2 weeks ago - he said the dog was not hit but looked very confused and carried on along the grass verge. For anyone who knows the area this was by the A283 (he came up from the river) and was going in the direction of Upper Beeding. Although this was 2 weeks ago, we have looked around there by going up Beeding Hill, passing the quarry, through Golding Barn Estate and back down over Windmill Hill. Great vantage points for at least a couple of miles in each direction but did not see any signs. He could have followed his scent back up to Henfield, giving us that unconfirmed sighting on the 11th. This gives me hope and am very relieved to say the least. On our search today did come across another 'lost' dog but was only a short way from some houses and we managed to find the owner; he'd just managed to get out. He ate Jaxx's biscuits as though he hadn't eaten for a month, the little trickster. So the search continues. Will be placing an ad this week in the County Times so hope this brings some news. Need my lost boy to come home!
angi
The main vets in shoreham is coastway they have a hospital at freshfield road Brighton . Tel for shoreham is 454040 and the hospital is 692257 both 01273. If this dog was taken to a vet they would almost certainly scan.vets must know the law x
Julie B
Oh I am sorry that you have found this out. It could be that whoever the dog was (or if it was Jaxx) is that they were taken for treatment and are recovering somewhere now. The people were going against the law I think by not reporting it. I am sure someone in the area will be able to give you more details on this. I really do hope that it wasnt Jaxx - and I know that it must be hard for you but dont lose heart until you find out for sure. Please let us know whatever you find out as I think of you and jaxx often. Julie x
Pixie
Thanks all. It transpires that a Dalmation was knocked over on that road approx 2 weeks ago and this has come to light due to an overheard conversation. It was quite a big deal as it stopped traffic and was witnessed by several people and someone was seen taking the dog away. It has not been reported to the Police and I am trying to find out any information from vets and kennels in the area. Grove Lodge Animal Hospital has not been informed and I have not had any luck with vets (given it's a Saturday). Am going to post some cards in the houses and nearby pub there tomorrow and have left a message with the dog warden for the Adur area. Am hoping to get some more info on Tues and that I can find out what has happened. It's feasible he could have been in that area given the sighting on 11th was unconfirmed. I am hoping not but need to know whatever the outcome. :{
angi
Ps the old cement works is right on the main road that runs between Steyning & shoreham about half way to the big round about below the A27 x
angi
Hi I lived shoreham for many years so very familiar with area. If you need any help looking around that area i'm happy to go over with my dog for a look around. The river is close by & so are the downs. X

Julie B
do you mean the road that goes through to Shoreham ? My geography isnt that good. Julie x
Pixie
Does anyone know the cement works rd, steyning? don't think it's known as that. Thanks.
Pixie
Hi Julie - tried to contact Kate at the paper but she hasn't got back to me. I wanted her to look at alternative to what she quoted. I noticed that there was an advert for a missing pet in the 'Lost' section so am going to look at putting it in the Classifieds section as this will clearly not be as expensive (our insurance only provides minimal cover for this). Am not losing faith, though it is very hard. We are now going to spread the search area bit by bit and at least an ad will cover a bigger area that we can. Hope springs eternal! x
Julie B
I am sorry that Jaxx is still missing. I did notice that he wasnt in the local paper yesterday. He has been gone 3 weeks now and could have gone in any direction since the last sighting in Henfield and possibly further afield. I really believe that an advert in the paper (which is circulated in many villages in the area) would get more sightings. I really do hope that you have something positive come of this weekend as you are certainly putting your heart into going out searching for this gorgeous boy. The key to it will be a sighting as it is anyones guess really at the moment which way he is travelling. Positive hopes and wishes being sent your way. Julie x
LizzieT
Pixie - you must be worn out searching all these footpaths. It is such a large area unfortunately. If he could just let himself be seen again so you could narrow your search. Maybe over the weekend when more people are out and about you'll have some luck. Do hope so. I'll keep spreading the word around Hurst and have given our local postie a poster. He says he will keep a look out too. Hoping he's back with you very soon.
Pixie
Update 19.05 - Downs Link searched (and surrounding fields) from PG to Henfield but no sighting and also the fields between Albourne Road and Furners Lane but nothing there either. Am going to try and spread the search area again to the outlying areas of Henfield in each direction. As always, fingers crossed.
Pixie
Thanks for your help Lizzie - we really appreciate it. It's sometimes difficult to know what to do next or where to look. He is a very special boy we are desperate to get back; if we have another sighting this will at least give us an indication as to the route he is taking. I really hope that we can have soon good news soon. Thanks again. Pixie xx
LizzieT
Pixie - please try to keep positive, the good thing is loads of people are aware he is missing and hopefully if he does come out into the open he should be easy to see. I'll drop posters into the pet shop and vet in Hurstpierpoint and let everyone on the farm where I work know he is missing. The unit opposite us is a Pet ID company and they are always walking their dogs around so I'll ask them to keep any eye open too. Best wishes and hope he is home very, very soon he looks a lovely boy xxx
Julie B
Pixie please stay positive. The good thing is you have lots of posters out there and Jaxx is microchipped. He will be seen very soon I am sure - it will only be a matter of time. I am away quite a lot for work - but still look at the rescues online around the area he went missing in the hope that I see him. Come on Jaxx it is time for you to come out of hiding and show yourself so that we can get you back home to your mum. Julie x
Pixie
Hi Lizzie - that would be great - thank you. Have not made it out that way yet but if he is trying to find his way back to the place he went from it is possible he'll be seen. Have been out to Woodmancote and Blackstone and we have posters out there but there are so many places to hide. Have been out to his known sightings so many times I would have thought someone to see him by now. Finding it hard to keep positive now and not sure where to go next but going to keep on looking. The kennels on the Albourne Rd are aware as well in case they see him out that way or anyone takes him there. He needs to show his face again and for someone to see him who knows he's missing. Still hoping and keeping things crossed
LizzieT
Just thinking, if Jaxx has been seen around Furners Lane/the Common it is possible he could head out towards Blackstone and Woodmancote and from there maybe head back along the Albourne Road towards Bolney? I work in Hurstpierpoint which is sort of on his route so I could poster the High Street and roundabout if you like? Keep looking out for him on my travels as I'm often in Henfield. Would so love to 'spot' him if you pardon the pun. Keeping everything crossed he is home soon xxLast edited: 2011-05-18 17:06:11 by LizzieT

Hi Julie - unfortunately there hasn't been anything. Have been off work the last couple of days and have been walking a lots of miles around the Henfield area hoping for just a glimpse. Other helpers have been out as well and they haven't seen anything. Good news is that people I have seen along the way have seen the posters and I've been putting more up. I suppose it's still early days but given some of the fields are away from the general population, sightings are going to be less frequent and just a matter of luck. Will keep on going regardless and hope to have some good news soon. XLast edited: 2011-05-18 15:26:38 by Pixie

Is there any further news / sightings of Jaxx ?
Julie x
Pixie
No joy either today I'm afraid. Covered a lot of ground; from Devil's Dyke, Poynings and Fulking and around the fields at the south-west area of Henfield. Very sad :(. Still don't know the exact area where he was seen on Weds so doesn't help. Back out tomorrow after work, north of Henfield this time around the fields there. Did find out that there is a black lab missing around the Pyecombe area so will be keeping an eye out for that as well. Have contacted a lot of the rescue centres around the area as well as kennels so people are aware and hoping this will help. Thanks Julie. X
Julie B
I am so sorry that you havent seen him. You certainly are trying so hard and it is only a matter of time before he is seen by someone. I keep searching the rescue centres online to see if he may have been handed in - no luck yet - but will carry on looking. Have you been in touch with any rescues around here ? I am guessing maybe not as you have had your hands tied with being out searching. If you would like I can also email them for you just to make them aware ? I cant think that they have too many dalmations handed in. I hope that you have some positive news today - either by seeing Jaxx yourself or at least finding out about the sighting in Henfield on Wednesday. Julie x
Pixie
Just got back from our dusk search through the back of Henfield Common over Furners Lane to the fields towards Albourne Road. Scanned lots of fields and looked around places he could bed down but nothing again I'm afraid. We're going to poster the Wantley Hill Estate then make our way down to Fulking, Poynings and Devils Dyke to poster around there and then come back to the Downs Link around Nep Town, Henfield. Hope to get the info about Weds sighting to at least give us a clue. Thanks for all the well wishes; Jaxx will be holding a thank you party when he comes home.Last edited: 2011-05-14 22:11:51 by Pixie

Out today around Henfield again, as no exact location of last sighting, we've been back out to the North of the common, walked up to Henfield from the Downs at Tottington and Edburton and also from Bramber following the river to the north of Small Dole but not a peep. At least more posters have been placed and more people spoken to. Very frustrating cannot get an exact location. Back out tonight around dusk and then trying dawn. When we finally find him he's got loads of work to do - all my ironing, housework and mowing the lawn, all these things getting left at the moment in the ardent search for our boy...Hoping for some luck! A huge thanks to our friends and supporters.

sighted again in the area on Wednesday.

Julie B
That is great there has been a sighting. It sounds like he is staying in the same sort of area. I have friends and work colleagues in Henfield so will let them know on my facebook page he is still in the area and for them to look out for him. Please Jaxx its time to give yourself up .... your mum wants you home gorgeous boy. Julie x
Heather
That is brilliant news - and we were there on Wednesday evening! If you can find out which fields, we can really focus our searches in that area this weekend.
Fingers crossed.x
Pixie
Still Don't know where but it was Weds not Tues. Kennels just found out today by chance - apparently he was seen running around on Weds but nothing was said until today. Hope to have location asap.
Pixie
13.05 Just found out that kennel owner was informed of a poss sighting again in Henfield area on Tues...why we fin out today is another story. Don't know exactly where yet but hoping to that update asap.
Pixie
Areas covered today: Downs Link from PG to Henfield and various paths of it; Woods Mill, Henfield Common and fields to the back of the Common; fields at the back of The Bull pub on the A281 towards Henfield; up around Lasham Hall and the Cat & Canary pub in Henfield (near Downs Link); farms surrounding Hassocks and around the Jack and Jill windmills. The postman who delivers to all the villages is also aware and has a lead with him just in case. A friend is also going to have a look around Steyning tomorrow as well and there are some posters in the school there. Until tomorrow...as always fingers crossed.
Pixie
Hi Linda
Thank you for your idea - we we certainly try this.
Pixie
Thanks for your comments Lizzie. We have been around the Swains Farm and Common area extensively and there are lots of places he could be holed up and we may not see him. Still trying there though. Thanks for keeping a look out and for your support.
Linda
I'm not sure if you have, but it would be a good idea to poster tack and feed shops cuckfield and bolney, as a lot of bridleways around the back of wineham and when your'e on a horse you can see a lot more over hedges etc.
LizzieT
I'm sure you've already been round Swains Farm on the Common but if not, worth a try. Popular picnic are so might be scraps around for a hungry dog. Also woods at the back and an old derelict building which might make a hiding place? He could easily have got there from Furners Lane as there are footpaths. I'm going out that way tomorrow so will keep my eyes open! Good Luck!
Pixie
Hi Heather
Will be going out again tonight. Happy to meet you in Henfield. Text me time and will see you there. Thank you.
Heather
Hi. Haven't spoken to you tonight but I have been out again - went behind the park into the fields towards the Downs Link but no joy. Stopping everybody I see. Are you going out again tomorrow as I will try to leave work on time - could meet you in Henfield. Chin up - still early days... Heather
Julie B
Im sorry that you havent had any positive news today. I work full time so don't have the time to spare to get out and about - but am happy to help wherever I can otherwise. Are you putting up lots of posters while you are out and about ? Petrol stations, village shops and bus stops would be good as these would get seen by many people. From what I can see from other pages on here - posters and flyers seem to be the way to go. As I said before I dont really know that area at all - but if there are car parks where people can park up near where you are looking or think Jaxx may be then poster the carpark and also stick flyers under the windscreen wipers. Just a thought. Do you have a group of friends that you could set up a search party for the weekend - this could get an awful lot of ground covered ? If you poster heavily it will hopefully be a matter of time before you get a sighting. It is just so frustrating not knowing which way he is heading. It is a shame the advert didnt get in the paper - but if Jaxx isnt home by next Monday and you put one in - contact Karen and I am sure you might be able to get her to drop the price a bit as it is quite pricey - although if it brings Jaxx home it will be well worth it. If my little dog went missing I would be a wreck - I think you are doing well with keeping positive the way you are. If only it wasnt so rural then you would be getting more sightings - but there must be houses around and I am sure before long he will be seen by someone. Julie x
Pixie
No further news from being out today - was not expecting to get out on a search this afternoon so was unexpected. Had a look around the west side of the Downs Link nearby Stone Pit Kennels/Blundens Farm area. If Jaxx is still missing next week we may have to look at the local advert then as too late this week. Will e-mail the contact to discuss. Thanks for all your help Julie. Back out again tonight - just can't seem to cover enough ground.
Julie B
I have just had a reply for the advert in the west sussex county times. The price she has given is £275.40 + vat for a 10cm x 3 column box which you could have a picture along with some details of where lost, last sighting and a contact number. The deadline for the County Times is 4pm today to go in Thursdays paper. I hope you get to see this message straight away or you may be too late. I have been emailing a lady called Karen Newton and her email address is Karen.Newton@worthingherald.co.uk - if you want to go ahead with the advert please send her an email or call her on 01903 212333 and if you say about the email she sent me (Julie) - she will be able to sort it out for you. If the price is too high she will probably be able to squeeze it into a smaller box for you. Let me know how you get on ? Julie x
Pixie
Not heard anything today. Father-in-law here to look for a couple of days with his dog - so at least there's another body on the ground. Plodding on but really need another sighting as you say.
Julie B
Hi Pixie, my contact had left the paper but I have emailed someone else there and she came back to me a while ago now to say she had passed my email on to another lady. At this moment I havet heard back from her - but I have just sent her another email to chase her up again. Hopefully should hear back very soon and I will post on here again. Are we lucky enough to have had any sightings of Jaxx yet ? Julie x
Julie B
how cruel can people be, as if it is not stressful and upsetting as it is without thoughtless people making the situation worse. Of course i will get in touch with my contact there in the morning for you. As soon as i have made contact i will write on this page with details for you. Jaxx will be fine and before long i am sure you will have something positive on him. Will let you know how i get on in morning. Julie x
Pixie
Hi Julie
I was given the Worthing number (01903) 282382 for missing pets. We do have insurance but it was heavy on the vets fees allowance rather than advertising etc. but would be good to know costs. We would be looking to have his photo and just details about where he went missing (Bolney 30.04) and last sighting (off Furners Lane, Henfield 05.05) Best contact number is central Dog Lost number, as the numbers above are our breeders and I've already had one disturbing crank? call the Police are looking into and of course they can contact the local dog warden. I would very much appreciate you trying if you have a contact. The number just kept ringing out today - very frustrating. Rather than sharing tel numbers here if you can pop a note on this thread I will be keeping an eye on it during the day. Thanks so much for your help - it is very much appreciated. x
Julie B
He must have found some good hiding places. I kept thinking about Jaxx last night - he kept me awake while he was probably curled up somewhere. Does he have pet insurance ? They would help pay for advertising in the paper. I think you need to get the advert in by 5pm tomorrow for Thursdays issue. I have a contact at the County Times for when I have to place adverts for jobs. I could get in touch with them tomorrow for you to find out how much it would cost if you wanted ? Would you want a pic of Jaxx in there too along with a couple of lines of where he is missing from with your contact numbers ? If the mobile number above is your one I could text you once I have spoken to them - if it will be of any help ? Without another sighting it is hard to say which way he is going - but I am sure that an advert in the paper this week while he is still local to get some sightings - as next week he may have travelled further afield and we need to be one step ahead of him. Julie x
Pixie
Have been out again tonight to the Henfield area, the east of the common this time and back to the area where he was sighted but nothing new to report. Will try the west of the Downs Liink between Henfield and PG (home). Really need another sighting. Good news for Jaxx is that there is plenty of water and places to shelter around and a good food source in bunnies. Keeping positive but he is sorely missed! Could not get hold of the West Sussex County Times today - will keep trying. Please keep your eyes peeled. Thanks to all for support.
Pixie
Hi Julie
Thank you very much for the extra info. We did cover these fields over the weekend and all through the common as well. I am going back tonight with a friend and their dog to search over there and also on the Downs Link as it gives great views. I thought that he may stick around there because of the amount of water available and also shelter from wooded areas and outbuildings. I have tried to call the paper on my lunch break today but no-one picked up so have sent an e-mail as I won’t get a chance to call them again today.
Julie B
Hi Pixie, I have spoken to the owner of our company again this morning and have a bit more detail of the field which Jaxx was seen. If you go into Furners Lane - the field was down on the right hand side of the lane which is actually owned by my bosses friend. Apparently Jaxx was seen going through it. My boss went back and told her friend that he was lost after I spoke to her about him and that could she keep a look out for him. They havent seen him at all since though. She said that if you go through the field you end up at the common. I really dont know Henfield at all - but you probably know where I mean. The good thing is he is microchipped should he be picked up. How did you get on with the paper today ? Have there been any sightings at all ? Glad that you are staying positive as this will help bring him home. Julie x
Pixie
Hi Julie B
Jaxx could have travelled that distance but think he would have had to cross roads from where he last was, giving more of a chance of being seen. E-mail from kennels last night to say no go in Pulborough - he could not find the person who called it in or a Dalmation. He had a look around the area coming back into the Washington area but no joy. The person who called it in said they thought it looked too young. By south of Henfield we mean Small Dole, Woodmancote, down to Tottington. We will be looking to put an add in the local papers - I will contact the County Times today. I'll be keeping looking around Henfield after work each eve, in the areas off the common, Furners Lane and areas of the Downs Link that have good vis. It's so frustrating and heartbreaking. Still have hope though. x
Julie B
There is only a distance of 10 miles between Henfield and Pulborough - would be easy for Jaxx to have covered that distance between Thursday and today ... please let it be him. Julie x
Julie B
I am so sorry you have not had anything positive today. Would be fantastic if the pulborough dalmation is him - was the dog caught ? Will you be putting ads in the papers ? When you say south of Henfield - do you mean Cowfold way ? I will still look out for him around this area as it is possible that he has come this way. I think because the area where he has been seen is so rural that is why the sightings are so few - but hopefully he will get nearer to houses very soon and then he will be seen by more people. Please Jaxx give yourself up to someone who can help you find your way home. Stay safe gorgeous boy. Julie x
Pixie
More miles covered on foot to the east of Henfield today. No sightings or signs of him :-(
Will start looking to the south of Henfield next.
Other areas searched today include: Hassocks, Pyecombe and Saddlecombe. There was also a report of a Dalmatian loose in Pulborough but we are still waiting to find out if it was him.

I had a look at the link last night I don't think his spots are big enough to be you boy - have shared the found one on my wall

Have cross-posted about this boy & shared on FB - fingers crossed for you - the sightings are good - I was involved in a search for a small dog that took 2 weeks in winter and he stayed within a couple of miles radius - one sighting suggested he was moving further afield but the next one showed he'd gone back - he obviously managed to get food/water etc too And Dalmatians usually have no problem in finding food - mine can sniff it out from a mile away - good luck - won't be long now I'm sure xx
Julie B
I am so glad that you are remaining positive. It is only a matter of time before you hear of the next sighting I am sure. Have you put an advert in the local paper for this next week ? The mid sussex times in Haywards Heath and also the west sussex county times which will cover the area from Horsham out to Henfield if he is travelling this way. Both papers come out on Thursday - so you would need to get the advert in with them by Tuesday midday I think. If you have pet insurance for Jaxx - I think they also pay towards advertising in the papers - but even if not it is still worth putting the adverts in as it will make so many more people aware of him being missing - especially as he seems to be travelling. It is so difficult to know which way he has gone. I feel so sure that it was Jaxx that my boss saw as you dont see that many dalmations around and especially as you had another sighting in Henfield the same day. I have tried looking at Google Earth to see where the fields in Furners Lane woiuld have been heading - but it was playing up a bit. It could be that he will head towards my way via Cowfold, Partridge Green and Lower Beeding. More sightings are needed and the ads in the papers will bring them in I am sure - especially if you are able to get a coloured picture of him in there as well. In the meantime - hopefully he will be home before then. Have you postered many areas ? Maybe could you ring Heart Radio (formerly Mercury) to see if they would help by giving out over the radio throughout the day? I supose another good place to poster is in the local village pubs as they would get seen by many people that live in the area. Also the petrol stations. Because the area is so rural am just trying to think of the main places where people might go. Please let there be some positive news soon - and most of all for you to remain positive as he will be found - and the good thing is he is microchipped. Julie x

Hi Julie B
Have been out all day searching around last known sightings but difficult to know exactly where he was. Have covered some distance - from around the fields off Furners Lane, the Henfield Common area and further down from Tottington back towards Henfield - all on foot via public footpaths and bridleways and on high ground so good viewpoints. Any dog walkers seen have stopped along the way and will be on the lookout for him. Kennels are still searching as well - the Hickstead area was covered today and the Downs will also be covered over as there is a 4-day charity walk taking place there. Still hopeful! x

Have there been any new sightings of Jaxx yet? I cant stop thinking about him. Julie x

Henfield sighting Thurs 5th May update.
Henfield, 05.05.11, 15:45, grid ref 216, 174

Given the other sighting in Furners Lane, Henfield we are searching that area, where there are several farm buildings and access to water.
Julie B
the field in henfield would have been down furners lane which is at the start of the village high street on the left if you are coming from horsham. Please let me know if there are any further sightings and although i am busy this weekend i can maybe get away to help. Hoping to hear some positive news on this gorgeous boy soon. Julie x

Hi Julie B
Could you let us know which field please or general direction from Henfield. No more sightings today. Many thanks and thanks to everyone for all your support.
Julie B
sorry just pressed the wrong button below. Meant to edit .. Not report ! At work today (6TH) i was talking to my managing director and his wife as they live in henfield. I told them about jaxx and they said they would look out for him when they walk their dogs and spread the word. When his wife left the office she rang me at the office and said she remembered seeing a dalmation in the field yesterday (5th) afternoon. She assumed it was with someone but sounds like it may have been jaxx. She has my mobile number and will ring me straight away over the weekend if she sees him and then i will let u know right away. Have there been anymore sightings today ? I am in horsham. Stay safe jaxx until you are found. Julie xLast edited: 2011-05-07 00:44:30 by Julie B

Have just had an email from Carole at Happy Breed Rescue (I contacted her on the off chance that Jaxx was with them) and she has passed on Jaxx details to one of their ladies who lives in Henfield so she keeps an eye out for Jaxx while she's out walking.

Pleased to see that Jaxx has been sighted on several occasions - just hope he's soon home.

Sightings of a Dalmatian (and how many could be lost at the same time?) reported in: location, date time - grid reference
Using OS Landranger 198 (1:50,000)

Bolney, Saturday evening 30 Apr - grid 253,230
Twineham substation, Sunday evening 1 May - grid 240,210
Henfield (but not told where exactly), 5 May 15:45 - grid 215,160

Twineham and Henfield are BN5 postcodes. It looks like he is staying with the local area at the moment but moving steadily south south west. If he came 2 miles north west he'd be back at home.Last edited: 2011-05-06 11:15:02 by Pixie

Thank you everybody for helping, we are both distraught and the house feels empty without him around.
We've e-mailed our friends in the area with a link to this page in the hope that they will distribute this further.

Just spoke to the dog warden and he is aware that Jaxx is missing, he didn't know he was up on DL so will check out his photo. He is keeping an eye out for Jaxx and went out searching for him the day he went missing along with a lot of other people.
