Any updates ? Aww can't believe Diesel is still out there somewhere.
Snowy
I have been following Diesel for such a long time and keep checking in for an update. It sounded like you were so close. Is there no update after locating his tracks?

I still hope to see him in the blue soon. xx
Carol
Bumped due to no news xxx

Any news?
Carol
Anymore on this boy xx
Carol
Fingers crossed xx
DogLostOwl
Chrissie, Wispa and I were out today tracking. We have worked out his recent routes and seen some of his enormous pawprints. He has moved on to the Carr Vale nature reserve and the adjacent fields, much more sheltered than the high wooded hill he favoured last year. Plenty of clear pools, plenty of cover.
Carol
Bump x

Have there been anymore sightings xx

Jumanji - Co-ordinator.South.Yorkshire
Come on Diesel you really need to be back with your owners !!!
DogLostOwl
No, some kind of error so all restored. It's started raining here for the first time in ages so he may be lying low.
Carol
They weren't offensive were they , unless mentioning the word fry up is offensive , wouldn't surprise me ! Come on Diesel show up tonight please xxxx
DogLostOwl
Not sure why all these comments were pinked, may have been a mistake.

Carol
Come on Diesel sweetie show yourself tonight for that fry up , wonder if he would recognise Brian !! Oh I hope so , we love you Diesel and can't bear you to be limping xxxx
Lucylou
hope its him and he's found x
DogLostOwl
Team Bones are there now doing a fryup, and will shortly be joined by Brian, Diesel's owner. Chrissie has just been given details of a sighting at 8 am this morning by a dog walker, who says that Diesel is limping. The lady dog walker said that too. Time to come home, boy. Two years and two hard winters is quite enough.
DogLostOwl
The rehomed dog is a purebred lab and was found on 25 March. Diesel was seen 2 days ago, and although he looks a bit lab-like on the photos he is much bigger, he is ridgeback x GSD with a very distinct ridge.
mathers22
I think Diesel looks lighter in colour than the rehomed one xx Could be wrong !!
Woo sips
Have you seen 50381?
Up as being rehoused in the blue section.
angi
Diesel is like Oscar and seems to managing out there on his own all this time. Really wish he would stay around long enough to be caught and go home to a warm bed xx
DogLostOwl
The old rascal is still around, I am glad to say. He was sighted 2 days ago by a lady walking her dog on the Stockley trail near the motor factors, which is in Diesel's usual area. There was also a sighting on Christmas Day by a police officer.
liana

AkitaTaz
Really glad that Diesel is still out there waiting to be found, come on home now Diesel xx
angi
Really pleased he is still about and not taking off at the first sight. Come on Diesel xx
DogLostOwl
Noodlebugs, thanks for your email, much appreciated. My outgoing mail is still giving problems so can't reply to you.
DogLostOwl
Brian just called me with the news. Well done Noodlebugs, he must be getting used to you being around. It's great that he just wandered off and wasn't in a hurry to get away from you. He does like that area around the ponds, we check there for scent and there is always something fairly recent.
Noodlebugs
Sighted this morning off Woodhouse Lane at around 8:55am. He was laying in the grass resting, and popped up no more than 10ft from me. He made me jump and it took a minute to regiser who he was, but he turned round and looked when I called his name, then wandered off. Have spoken to Brian with the update, and will be back down there tomorrow morning. Come home soon, Diesel.
xWendyx
Any more news on the dog seen in Tapton? Has the area been postered?
Brian
Thanks Jo but sadly this is not Diesel.
We have had a report today of a dog which she thinks might be Diesel. She spoke to the man with it and he said he had got him from the RSPCA in Sheffield he was walking around Tapton area. Diesel had been sighted there May 2011.
jo
Could 'found' male lab cross kennel name Flame ID 40797 be Diesel?
DogLostOwl
Thank you jobadger, but in fact we can't do much to help here at present. We know pretty well where he likes to go but it's a question of getting him and his people at the same place and the same time. It's the hard work done by his family which has made his face well-known to most people in the area so the sightings are reported.
angi
So pleased Diesel is being seen again back at his old haunts. I've been following his progress from the beginning and was gutted for everyone that had done so much to get him home when the trap was stolen probably with him in it..:( That person must have kept him or sold him on and he escaped and made his way back for there to be such a long gap between sightings. It's good the lovely owl and wispa are out there tracking him again. I guess any trap used would have to be watched or the thieving toe rag who took him first time could do it again! Come on Diesel lad xx
jobadger
Heavens! good to know he is still safe! You and Wispa are a wonderful team, Owl.
DogLostOwl
Diesel whizzed past some people near his regular haunts on Woodhouse Lane either today or yesterday and ran on to the Coalite site. Brian is trying to get hold of the people for more info. Will update when I know more details.
Noodlebugs
I've been away for a couple of weeks, but will be taking mine down there twice a day from this afternoon, again. Will be keeping a close eye out for him. It's so great to hear of sightings of him again.
kennelmaid
We moved house to Scarcliffe a while ago, and have seen this poster on the roundabout going into Chesterfield. There is someone with a dog looking like this we have seen in Bolsover a few times (in the houses opposite the Castle). Now I know he is still not home I will get my son and husband to take a walk around (I am disabled now) and see if they catch sight of him. xxx
DogLostOwl
We now have donations to cover that, thank you. But we need to go back to square one and get Diesel feeding regularly in the same place. He is right back in his familiar haunts. Went there this afternoon, Wispa led me to the place he was seen yesterday but wasn't madly excited about it, she seemed to say, "Oh it's him again, boring!" But then she took me round the hill to the ponds and really got switched on. She sat for at least 5 mins air scenting before taking me to very steep woods between the ponds and the nearest houses. The undergrowth is really thick there and it is too steep for anyone on 2 legs. I think from her behaviour the scent there was today's and he may even have been asleep down in those woods.
SJ100
How much would a new trap cost? I would be willing to make a donation if it helps this poor boy get home. x

Bumped due to some SIGHTINGS of Diesel this week back on the scrubland area near to Woodhouse Lane, Bolsover !!! Last edited: 2012-05-11 21:28:22 by Jumanji - Co-ordinator.South.Yorkshire
xWendyx
Any more sightings?
racheljane
Elizabeth 13, the dog does look very similar to Diesel and would be the right area, I suppose if the found one has a ridge , it would be worth persuing.
Elizabeth13
This is a long shot, but there is a dog at netherlands dog rescue that kind of looks like Diesel?

Goodluck x
Jackie
Come on Diesel...you've been on your travels far to long now..lets get you home now xxx
DogLostOwl
Seen again Bramley Vale 7.30 a.m. by friend of owner's daughter. The dog was wearing a chain collar and looked very thin.
DogLostOwl
No, the trap has not been found :( I do hope this is Diesel. If it isn't then there is another big tan dog on the loose who needs to be caught.
xWendyx
What fantastic news. I really hope it's Diesel and he can be caught soon.
Did the trap that went missing in Bolsover ever get found?
BBKM
This will be brilliant if these sightings are Diesel, hope so, fingers crossed he is home very soon x
jobadger
Fingers, toes and paws crossed here that this boy is home soon. xx
DogLostOwl
Seen on Friday at Bramley Vale by member of Neighbourhood Watch. A dog of Diesel's description was dodging traffic near the end of the Brockley trail, near the A617. There was also a possible sighting in Bolsover area 3 weeks ago, and another last week.
DogLostOwl
Bumped for sightings. Brian called me with the news while I was out, and I left my notes in the car so will get them and post details in a minute.
xWendyx
Totally gutted the sightings weren't Diesel. I really feel for Brian and his family after his hopes were raised so much. Never give up though, Diesel is out there somewhere xx
Jumanji - Co-ordinator.South.Yorkshire
Sadly the owners think this sighted dog is one that often wanders from the farm it lives on in the area and has been mistaken for Diesel in the past.
DogLostOwl
Excellent, bumped for sighting which came from a man who had seen the item in the Derbyshire Times.Last edited: 2012-01-26 18:11:02 by Owl

Sighting phoned in to HQ of dog matching the description has been seen for the last few days in a field close to Duckmanton.

Thank you Derbyshire Times for your piece on p34 today.
DogLostOwl
Hi Flowergirl, I suggest you send Brian a text on the number given above to make contact and let him know you are prepared to help with a search. The problem at present is that we don't know where to start unless we have another sighting. Both Brian and I spoke with a Derbyshire Times reporter yesterday, so we hope there will be an item in the paper this week.
Flowergirl
I keep sharing Diesel's poster on my Facebook and Twitter, I have seen the banners at Arkwright - great idea - I hadn't realised he had been missing for so long until I saw the link by the Derbyshire Times on Facebook. If you are planning a look for him, I'll glady help if I'm free as I only live in Clowne.
Hodgepig666
Have put posters up in the local area as an appeal, for the return of the trap....Am gutted about both the trap and dielsel we were so close.... The search for him goes on....
DogLostOwl
Thanks carol, it's not this Diesel as the one in kennels is smaller and has more dark shading around his muzzle than missing Diesel as well as the white chest. But I think we should certainly be watching all kennels especially around Derbyshire, Notts and S Yorks as if someone did pick him up along with the trap they might hand him in. I don't think anyone would catch him any other way. And of course we still need to keep looking in case he is still out there.Last edited: 2012-01-22 15:16:28 by Owl

hi has diesel got any white on his chest its a long short but the his a dog named diesel cross breed at west end farm kennels its woth a look but dont build your hopes up

Thanks Owl for your wise feedback....
DogLostOwl
There are several possibilities we have to consider. The trap may simply have been stolen by dishonest people, it may have been removed by well-meaning people who thought it was there for a bad reason e.g. trapping wildlife, and it is also possible that the thieves may have waited until Diesel was in the trap and taken him as well.Last edited: 2012-01-18 20:40:43 by Owl
DogLostJayne - Founder Doglost.
I am very sad to say that The local co ordinators have reported to me that our trap has been stolen...its known as the golden trap...as it has worked every time....so all you local dog owners that this trap has helped...please spread the word...maybe someone has got the wrong idea...but we desperately need a replacement trap to help Diesel get home.....or ideally OUR trap back...do share on social websites...and do think of Diesel...we were so close...Thats why A dogs thread suddenly goes quiet...we dont want to advertise the fact that traps are out there...but I assure you with our experience from working together ...we dont put a trap out until we are on the verge of getting a dog home...as indeed we were with Diesel...Our Local co-ordinators...as indeed I am are devastated...as is owner...On the upside...if this goes viral...as I am sure you will do...then we might be able to get local press coverage to help Diesel get home...thanks everyone

He is taking food again, and there has been a possible sighting near J29a this evening on the old Markham pit area.
Hodgepig666
He has been sighted again in the last couple of days in the same area...But we think with the weather been so windy and bad he is keeping a low profile, the search goes on.....
Rachel - Bucks volunteer
Diesel, you are being a little tinker. Probably finding it hard to trust humans after so long but please, give it a go. You're family want you home. Stay safe
DogLostOwl
Thanks sharon57blue, but it won't be Diesel as he was strolling around a green area in Bolsover at 9.30 this morning, and anyone who can manage to catch him will know who he is as there are posters and banners all over the place.

Noodlebugs saw him yesterday as well, and she managed to find a big trap which she will be collecting from the rescue which is kindly lending it. Everything crossed we catch this lad soon.

Oops - Think I just reported your post Owl! An accident - I was trying to find a way to send a private message and mis-clicked. Sorry!
Noodlebugs
Owl, any chance I could have your email address? I have some details of someone who may have a trap you could borrow and didn't want to put them on in public. Thanks.
jobadger
Come on Diesel - it's time to go home! It's Christmas! Nice warm bed - huge hugs and Santy Claws with pressies! Stay safe and you'll ne home in no time. xx
DogLostOwl
Sighted midday yesterday, same place.
Noodlebugs
We're off down there again in a minute so will keep looking. Don't suppose there's any particular food that he likes that we might be able to tempt him with, Brian? I'd be happy to take something down with me (sausages maybe? or anything else he loves?). Let us know if you need any help leaving food down there while you can't drive. It'd be no problem for us to leave something for him.
BBKM
I am so pleased to read about these positive sightings. It seems Diesel is starting to trust humans so lets pray that you have him home with you for Xmas. It will be absolutely brilliant for you all. Wishing you all the luck in the world to get your boy home xx
Brian
Thanks everyone for your help. I am now unable to drive as I had an operation on my hand yesterday. The call came just after my wife had left for work,I contacted the dog warden straight away. My Son has been up after work the food in the pipe has not been touched, but the food dish on the other side of the road waas empty. This has been refilled. There were kids messing about on the pit top lighting fires tonight. We will be around tomorrow. Thanks again.
DogLostOwl
Looks like he is starting to get used to you, well done! We were there yesterday, Wispa found plenty of fresh-ish scent around those ponds by the industrial estate so we knew he was still around.
Noodlebugs
As Owl says, it was definitely him again today. We tried calling him and he looked for a while, but then trotted off. A change from last week when he bolted to minute he saw us. It would be wonderful if he's starting to recognise us, but don't want to get anyone's hopes up. We didn't (and wouldn't) give chase as we don't want him to think of us as a threat and move on to pastures new, but will continue to gently call him if we see him. Glad he's staying local and good luck finding a trap.
DogLostOwl
sighted again 9 am today. Dog warden has been after this lad since May. My trap isnt long enough for him as he is not only a big dog but very long in body. I am trying to source an outsize trap. Last edited: 2011-12-20 10:34:45 by Owl
kayr
contact dog warden or rspca a greyhound in america as just been caught after weeks loose by placing food in a trap when dog goes in trap goes off at least you know he is eating hope he comes home soon
Brian
We have been leaving food in the pipe for the past 3 days and it has been eaten on all occasions. We have put some sand down and have recorded large footprints indicating it's Diesel who is eating it. Anyone have any suggestions to what we do next. Ideally it would be rigging up some contraption to hold him in the tunnel or a trap big enough to catch him in.
DogLostOwl
Hi Noodlebugs, with any luck you may see him again as you are down there so often. Hopefully Diesel will get used to seeing your dogs around and realise you are no threat to him. I will be around from time to time, recognisable by tatty old white Berlingo van and mad spotted black & white GSP x lurcher, so we may well meet. I've just bumped this page to top for new sighting, mean to do it this morning but forgot.Last edited: 2011-12-13 22:20:07 by Owl
Noodlebugs
Hi Owl. It was my husband that spotted him this morning, so likely his car you saw. We've seen him down there once before too, a week or so again. One of us walk our dogs there at least twice a day so we'll keep a close eye out for him and let Brian know if we see him again. Such a shame he won't come to us. It would be so lovely to get him home where he should be all, snuffled up for Christmas. Good luck, and let us know if we can help any more.
DogLostOwl
Thanks Noodlebugs. If it was you who spotted him, I was just parking my van next to your car as you left. I decided to take Wispa for her morning walk there just on the off chance, and we arrived to find Brian and Judith there with one of their other dogs. Nice fresh scent for Wispa to follow, took us around the wasteland and over the top then out through a gate on to Woodhouse Lane, heading downhill towards Buttermilk Lane. There is easy access from there to the place we found scent the other day, across the road from the main wasteland/tip area. We also found scent along 2 paths going into town. One was a slippery path off the wasteland which you get on to if you turn left from the entrance and go alongside the stream, the other was Blind Lane opposite the entrance. It's a dead end but a footpath leads into the estate and it's easy to get to Houfton Rd from there. We seem to have mapped out the routes he travels, but actually catching him is a challenge.
Noodlebugs
Hi, Just a note to let you know that Diesel was spotted at 9am this morning on the wasteland off Woodhouse Lane, Bolsover, behind his 'missing' poster. Phoned Brian to let him know. Good luck finding this gorgeous boy!Last edited: 2011-12-13 10:01:41 by Noodlebugs

Deisel was sighted at Houfton Crescent off Houfton Rd in Bolsover late this afternoon, but although the lady who saw him rang owner quickly, Diesel had gone by the time his family got there. This is close to where he was seen last week.

Diesel has been sighted this morning near Coalite Bolsover. He was spotted by a friend of ours so is a genuine sighting. He shouted his name and Diesel ran off towrds the wooded ares off Woodhouse lane. We have been walking the area and just returned to print more posters and update. We have spoken to peoplle in the area and two of them had seen him 2 days ago in the same area. Fingers crossed. Ps we have had some massive banners printed that we are displaying on roundabouts where he has been sighted. We have had texts from people saying that thay are keeping actively looking for Diesel.

Hi Alex the dog in question lived on Hazelhurst Ave. He had jumped over fence. Owner said he had never done it before and he is highering the fence. Just wondering if the dog people have been seeing is the actual one that lives there and the owner was being eccomomical with the truth seeing as the dog warden was there.
xWendyx
Alex, the dog spotted this morning was in Chesterfield, North Derbyshire. It's a long way from you but definitely worth following up. I really hope it was Tess. Good luck to you and to Brian. I really hope you both get your dogs back soon x

Diesel was spotted yesterday morning going through an hedge near staveley. We walked the area but could not see anything. The canal is at the bottom of the field but cannot be accessed because of the fence. I am just going to Tapton lock to talk to the rangers. Hpefully we will have some news soon. Thanks for your continued support.

I spoke with Brian on the phone this afternoon and he told me that a man reported a sighting at the golf course near Chesterfield hospital, Calow area, not far from canal. If that is Diesel he may be heading back in direction of home. The food left for him at Linacre woods has not been touched, I was there this afternoon and spoke with the ranger.

What an adventure Diesel is on - glad the weather is good for him and hope the bbq has nice enough smells to bring him out and back to his family. Liz xx

Thankyou very much Owl & Debbie for all your efforts trying to find Diesel. We really appreiciate everything you are doing to help. We have just arrived home but will be heading back in an hour or so with a BBQ to see if the smell of food cooking will bring him out.(We have the rangers permission) Once again we can't thank all family, friends and helpers enough. ThankyouLast edited: 2011-05-25 17:59:51 by Brian

We are back home after doing a couple of hours tracking. We found plenty of scent and followed the trail from where the workmen had given Diesel a sandwich, through woods and fields and some quiet streets on the outskirts of Ashgate before heading over a stream and back into Linacre woods. Wispa got very excited about an area with a lot of dry leaves and suitable sleeping places. So what we have achieved is to find where he has been hanging out for the last few days, during which time there have been other sightings. I couldn't work out how he got across Chesterfield from Arkwright, but from looking at maps and talking to the park rangers and a helpful birdwatcher we have concluded that he has followed the canal and the river Rother into town then continued westwards along Home Brook which eventually leads into the reservoirs at Linacre. Apart from the obvious need to stay close to a watercourse in the present drought, Diesel loves to be in and around water. Postering has been done in the surrounding village, and we talked to walkers with and without dogs and they all said they would look out for him. The rangers have been really helpful. I would also like to thank Peak Radio for their help, which brought in the latest sightings.

Have just spoken to Brian who is at Linacre woods now & will lay scent trail. Wispa and I will be joining him tomorrow morning, no point in our rushing up now as he doesn't have anything of Diesel's there with him for her to take scent from. Hope Diesel stays at Linacre as it is a great place for a dog to be, with shelter and water and friendly workmen. Lots of people walk there so hopefully there will be more sightings.

If he is a ridgeback cross wouldnt it be wise to say this? Seeing as they have a distinctive ridge on his back. This might be something that sticks in peoples mind and so notice it.

I would suggest to owners that you amend the breed description of your Diesel as he doesn't resemble a GSD very much and with no ID on him could easily slip through the system. It might be better to describe him as a Crossbreed.
