Goldenfrodo
Absolutely brilliant news. Well done. Good luck gorgeous Lizzie xx
Cath
The great news is that Lizzie is doing really well. I have got her now and will have her until the day comes that her forever home is found and Michelle and I are are happy she is ready. She slept in the lounge last night happily, ate a bowl full of food when no one was looking and has been doing play bows and chase games with the others this am. I am happy that she is already gaining confidence slowly. I am pretty certain she'll make a lovely pet one day. Never shown any aggression at all towards me but she does grumble a bit if the others go near her bed but nothing serious I don't think.

Yes she has been caught. The lady at the cafe has gradually over the last 4.5 months gradually got nearer and nearer to her and has finally managed to catch her. She didn't even put up a fight but was just scared. I will update you all further once details are clearer. Thanks to everyone who helped catch her. A very happy ending for the Lovely Lizzie! I am off work sick at the moment but will eventually foster her until she is ready for a forever home. THANKS again for everyones help. X

Lizzie is being seen regularly now and the lady at the cafe is still feeding her, hopefully this lady will gain her trust enough that Lizzie will be caught. As you can imagine this will take time.
Come on Lizzie it's time you were home x

Is anyone still looking for this poor little girl?

Thanks Janey for the offer, at the moment there is enough help for trap checking but would like your offer of help at a later date depending on how we play things, at the moment we are having to play a waiting game with Lizzie, we have explored all angles on what we can do but have to be careful that we dont make her move on..
Cath
Janey thanks for this I have passed the message onto Michelle. I think she is very busy at the moment. She may very well need help checking traps but I will leave it up to her to contact you about this. Thanks Cath
janey
Is this Acton near Great Waldingfield/Sudbury?? If so I'm really close if I can do anything to help xx
DogLostXenas Mum - Area Volunteer, Norfolk
At least you know where Lizzie is and she is currently safe and well and she obviously feels safe where she is at the moment, it is her place of choice and there is food for her, she will give up when she is ready. Yiftaki gave up in similar circumstances when he had had too much of being cold wet and traumatized and as long as Lizzy is trusting the Cafe lady to feed her a bond is being generated however tenuous ... lets the bond get stronger very quicly. Praying that Lizzie will stay there and not go off somewhere else.. Very well done to everyone, sorry I'm just that bit too far away to help and have my own problems at the moment but am praying for Lizzie and wishing you all well :)
Cath
She has also stored some balls as well as her cat blankets!!!
Cath
Oh dear we had no joy catching her tonight. But at least we know where she is and that she is being well fed and is looking good. I have finally seen her for the first time. Traps are set and now we just have to wait. She is a clever girl though. I think the local cafe owner will help check traps and the lady that initially reported her on Thursday. The problem is she is now so far from both me and Michelle. Nevermind as I said at least we know where she is and that she is looking good.
Vizsla55
Excellent news - come on Lizzie play time is over, get home to your mammy. Good luck to all, hope to see her in the Blue very soon. :) xx
Fly
Wow -just the news we've all been praying for. So pleased she is still well. What a dear making herself a bed! Lets hope the next bit goes smoothly and she gets to go home with Michele very soon. Have fun camping Cath and Michele. Will be thinking of you.

fab news! come on Lizzie get yourself home!!
Cath
Megga megga news!! Michelle has seen Lizzie tonight herself in Acton. A lady from a cafe has been feeding her for 3 weeks. She whistles her and she comes!!! (but keeps 6 ft away) She has stolen the cats blankets and taken them to the place where she sleeps. She is looking ok I think. The plan is to set the traps tomorrow night as it's too late and we don't want to freak her out any more tonight. Michelle and I will camp out there tomorrow night. Wow this is so exciting. Michelle has also spoken to the local game keepers partner. They set a fox trap which she went in but was too big for the trap to shut.
Viv
come on Lizzie were all thinking of you!
Suziewoo
Everything crossed that this is Lizzie & that she has kept herself safe. Now the difficult part is how to capture her. Border Collies has some excellent advice on this after her ordeal with Eva! Hope you get Lizzie back safely xx

There's been a possible sighting of Lizzie in Acton - half hours drive from Haverhill! Posters will be going up in the area.

Hi
Have you had any more sightings of lizzie
Desperate Greekies
Thanks Cath, Alice and Lee for responding so quickly to my call, lets hope it is her and we get lucky so this nightmare can come to an end.. no more calls so far but guess its pretty quiet in Babraham by now.Last edited: 2011-07-01 22:52:43 by Desperate Greekies
Cath
spent the last 3 hours on the hunt for Lizzie again. She was apparently seen in the school at Babraham and walking up and down the High St. We were there within minutes of the sighting and no signs at all. I spoke to the security man at the institute, various bikers, joggers, dog walkers, people in the pub and outside the pub and to someone that lives on Rowley Lane. I drove around Pampisford, Sawston, Babraham and down the Rd past the Gogs and Wandlebury. I also walked my dogs for an hour down Rowley Lane, onto the football field, past the school, into the church yard, through/ past many fields/ woods and back again. I saw no signs of Lizzie (yet again). Alice has done a great job at using a sock to hang some meat in as the bacon was taken from the trap today but the rind was left behind on the hook that is meant to be pulled by the dog which shuts the trap door. No idea if this makes sense but I am soooooooooooooo tired.

Come on Lizzie give us a clue, let us know you are OK girlie we love you and there is such a good life waiting for you, don't miss out girl xxxxx
Fly
Just had a thought could Michele do a YouTube appeal and then we can add that to posters and handouts, more info could be passed that way and You/She may even have some footage that could be added showing her (Lizzie), we could then send that by email to loads of people or even have it running on a vdu.
Fly
Its probably been covered by now but, is it worth contacting local postmen in areas she's been seen and milkmen, they deliver early and may get to see her at day break! What about local boyscouts/guides/cadets leafleting? Does The Chestnut Tree pub in Wratting have a poster? Hope she is spotted soon.

No news Im afraid... where are you Lizzie??
Desperate Greekies
not even sure if these sightings in Shelford were her but cant dismiss them, dont think she could have been in haverhill the day before though, its so confusing so just have to check out what is given to us, Lizzie is not used to roaming, she was 4 months old when put in a concrete pen and never left it,dont know really what she makes of all this, you are right Fly its just impossible to 2nd guess her. Traps are set but who knows if they are in the right area... thanks for all your support everyone, its much appreciated.
Fly
Yes Basil I have a 'loose' map, and it is a vague triangle, having said that there will be places we dont know about as its a large area but the main areas are Pampisford - Babraham - Gogs then over to West Wratting area. But in Lizzies case its hard to pinpoint a routine as in other cases. Personally I think the fact that she is greek and probably used to running around loose more than a brit dog, then add to that she is so nervous and doesn't know the area it makes it really hard to try to 2nd guess anything, unfortunately for Lizzie.
BBKM
Come on Lizzie, slow down, be seen, be caught so you can go home to your family x
Anyone done a map and pinpointed where her sightings have been...do her sightings form a triangle?Last edited: 2011-06-20 21:47:33 by BBKM

Sighting of Lizzie this morning about 10am in Gt Shelford!! near the post office, she was on the main road crossing from De-frepille into High Green.
Come on Lizzie it's time you were home x

This girl is like the scarlet pimpernell and moves around via the fields occasionally returning. If we could lay our hands on a thousand traps it would not be enough because it is a farming area, and the traps have to be checked constantly, it has been tried with the limited resources available. Remain positive. ss the grass and corn is cut we may well get more sitings.

2 more sightings today being checked out by the rescue.

poor Lizzie!! can't see her going to anybody - think they should set a few traps

All as Cath said, nice to meet up. I have just sent Lizzies poster and details with letter to D'Abo Estates Office West Wratting Estates, who own most of the land in that area. FLY
Cath
I have been to West Wratting and spoken to the man that saw her. In fact many people that I spoke to had seen her too on 6 Mile Bottom Rd on Sat, Sun and Mon. She was reported by a few to be carrying a pheasant. I bumped into Fly (Hilary) while postering which was a nice surpirse!! We postered West Wratting, Western Colville and West Wickham. We spoke to many people that were all happy to spread the word. I also spoke to a farmers wife that farms the fields near where she was seen and the local game keeper will also be told by someone else that we spoke to.

Michele just had a call to say that a dog fitting Lizzies description was seen in a place called West Wratting on Friday and Sunday just gone. Once she was seen in a guys back garden and on the other time in a field in that are...a. It's apparently a very small village, about 1-mile NE of Balsham where we were last weekend postering! She looked dirty but was okay otherwise. Michele is heading over there as soon as someone collects their dog that she's grooming. If anyone can get there to give her a hand postering the immediate area and also Weston Colville, Weston Green, Mark Hall and West Wickham we'd be grateful. I will try and go and help Michele again on Saturday but she needs an urgent hand before then to quickly get some posters up in this new area and also speak to the neighbours, ask them to leave food out etc as if Lizzie was there for at least 2-days, perhaps she's hanging around West Wratting and we need to keep her there with a good food source!!!!
Fly
Its so hard to 2nd guess where she is, the weather is nice so she should be fine, and she has the rivers in that area Here are some of the villages in the surrounding area:North-Cherry Hinton,Fen Ditton,Milton,Teversham,Waterbeach.North East-Balsham,Bottisham,Fulbourn,Newmarket,Quy,Stow,Swaffhams,Wilbrahams,Wratting,South East-Ashdon,Horseheath,Linton,Shudy Camps,South-Saffron Walden,

Shepreth,Whittlesford.North West-Barton,Bar Hill,Histon & Cottenham.

I am attending the obedience show at Littleport and will be displaying a poster of Lizzie (along with other dogs missing from the area). There will be a display just inside the entrance of the Leisure Centre for everyone to see x

Hi - I wish I were nearer to help physically.
Newmarket Canine Society has an open and obedience show on at Littleport Leisure Centre on Saturday and Sunday next (18th and 19th). If someone could get fliers to the show and on the cars, open shows, especially two day ones with obedience, attract doggie people from far and wide. The word about Lizzie would be spread further - and they might have seen something on their travels. xxLast edited: 2011-06-13 18:59:03 by jobadger

No more news on Lizzie. A fox was spotted near traps at 4 am but am still sure the foot prints were not a foxes. I put 50 more posters out today up Gogs, in Pampisford and Stapleford. I spoke to many people and they all seemed to have heard about her which was encouraging. I will poster Wandlebury, Cherry Hinton Hall tomorrow.
Spindle
Things are sounding promising.Probably best idea is NOT to put food outside the trap, only inside. she will need to be hungry to enter it. If trap is disguised and food put right at back she may well go in. If a fox gets caught it can just be released.Last edited: 2011-06-03 21:39:22 by Spindle

Two traps set by kind permission of landowner last night. Alice, Lee and Cath taking it in turn to monitor throughout early morning, day and evening. Given extensive cornfields/outhouses and the ground she has managed to cover it is a big wish but options are few. She has running water, shelter and with food being supplied regularly during the day hopefully she'll be persuaded to take the food in the trap eventually.

I have been over to look this morning, no sign of her. But I have just checked her facebook page and she was sighted 11.45 today in Babarham again.

Michele saw her a couple of times after a phone call in the Goggs Magog (Stapleford area) in a corn field opposite. Unfortunately she bolted away each time she caught sight of any people, she stood and looked at Michele but didn't recognise her. The last sighting was about 10.30pm on Saturday night.
BorderCollies
I am glad there have been some sightings. I think the frequency of checking the trap depends as well in what is around. We had Eva;s trap first in a residential area and could only leave it open while we were there. There were lots of foxes, badgers, cats and even dogs we could have caught if we had left it unattended. We had it open for a few hours every night (2-3) and watched it, as Eva was nocturnal by then.
When we moved the trap we left it open, as it was a remote area, with less wildlife and no other pets around.
How about installing a webcam/cctv or similar? We contemplated that with our trap, but never got around to do it. I am not very "techy", but maybe somebody knows if there is a possibility running a camera from a leisure battery? Just a thought :)

Any chance this could be her?

Go to biggsd.com, (based in Chertsey, Surrey) click on Forum, scroll down to Dogs Lost/Found you will find Help Michele ....etc click on this topic and you will find a map of the area of Babraham. There is a pub opposite the walk area she had been seen in, you can walk your dog in this area, it follows a stream. There are sheep in the area so if you have a dog be aware.

So pleased there has been a sighting, at least we know she is still alive and living on her wits. Bless her, hope she is caught very soon.
Buds Mum
Am hoping to get that way tomorrow to look for her, we don't know the area so if someone could give some ideas where to go please. Be nice if she was caught before then though!

Oh hope to hear some good news!!

Just spoken to Michele, Lizzie was seen about an hour ago heading back towards Babraham. She is on her way there, can anybody help right now. Her battery is low on her mobile so best not to call so that she can preserve what charge she has on there.
Cath
I will print some posters and take them to the farm shop tomorrow.
Cath
Ok well please let me know if I can do any trap checking. As I said I could go over there definitely every day but twice a day may be impossible every day.
Just a quick question as I left the Church walk at the institute on Thursday about 3pm there was a lady talking on her mobile (looking at the Dog Lost poster). I had my window open as I was pulling out onto Babraham Rd and heard her say that she had seen Lizzie in her back yard. She said she tried to call her over but she just ran away. Does anyone know who she was talking too and where this "back yard" was? Is this the Coley business park sighting?

I went to wandlebury car park and put up the large laminated poster in a prominent place and also handed out some small cards, also did some cottages on way to Copy Hill and drove around Copley Hill Bus Park, then went back to Rowley lane down by river, (Got locked inestate which puts barrier down at 7pm!) hung around until it got darkish - nothing! I may be able to help check a trap on an ad hoc basis but treat me as an extra as if work is busy I wont be able to just leave unfortunately. Will take a look around tomorrow but after 6pm tomight no online until Monday am can be contacted on 07710 752448. Thanks to Cath hope we get a lucky break and she stays safe.IPS I ran out of posters but if anyone is near Gog Magog farm shop it would be a good place to leave some.

I believe twice a day is the absolute minimum. I think we should wait until we have had a few more sightings before considering where to place a trap.
shoot the owner
I believe Eva's trap was checked twice a day. If a trap is set in an area accessible to general public need to put a 'Do not release - contact (tel no) immediately' note, as some well meaning sole might try to remove her themselves.
Cath
Hi
I live about 5 miles away and have can check the trap everyday BUT would it need to be more than this?
BC
Posters have been put up at Copley Hill Business Park, and i have emailed the poster to quite a few of the individual businesses there
BC
Thank you Fly AND Xenas Mum

Ive been speaking to Michele today, and we really are not sure how we can proceed from this point, the main problem is the setting up of the trap, michele works all day, and lives an hour away, the trap would have to be monitored regularly, at the moment, we dont have that many people on the ground, so to speak, is there anyone who could help with this once the trap is set. I think the only way we are going to catch her is to trap her, hence the problem. The young lady who helped today, works also, so she is not available on a regular basis. I have left a message for the part time dog warden to ring me, to see if perhaps he could help in some way, or if he knows of anyone who might be prepared to help. Any ideas anyone ????
Fly
Have sent news of her whereabouts to Gog Magog Golf Club, Wandlebury Common secretary and a friend of ours who has a business on Copley Hill Business Park. If she has successfully made it onto Wandlebury Common and STAYS there, she will have plenty of place to roam. I have just had a A3 laminated poster made and may take it up after work tonight if poss.
Liz may see this and go over, she was out at Babraham with her dogs searching last night? Its a very busy road.

I've faxed the poster to Ashcroft Vets.
BC
Babraham Institute have left a message to say she has been spotted at Copley Hill, on Main Road, we have been unable to speak to the lady who made the call yet
BC
Has anyone got a fax machine who could send a poster to Ashcroft Vets, they dont have email, the fax no is 01954212356, thanks

Michele received phone call last night. Gentleman is insistant that he saw Lizzie yesterday on small road from Madingley to Dry Drayton. The dog came out from a farm gate, logs piled up inside, surrounded by fields and hedges. The dog was strolling about sniffing, he slowed down to see if he could see an owner, then the dog disappeared. Went home looked in local paper and is certain this was he dog he saw. This is some way from where she was lost but it is the only possile sighting since last week. Michele is out in this area looking now. Can anyone help with posters around this area?
BC
Contacted BBC Radio Cambridge, and they were very happy to help, they will either be mentioning her today or tommorow, also now on Cambridge Gumtree, and Cambridge Free Ads
BC
Contacted Village Vets, there is a poster up in Sawston but not in Whittlesford, so ive emailed them a doglost poste, also sent to Woodgreen, Godmanchester, who take the strays for this area, apparently Michells Farm Kennels take the stays out of hours, but the phone number listed is obsolete, so Michelle will send one through the postLast edited: 2011-05-25 15:16:53 by BC

All as mum24collies reorted. I went into Babraham Institute grounds (briefly!) at 7am and passed around a few posters before being escorted out of the premises!
Locals very helpful and actually met the man who saw her on Rowley Lane near ford on Friday pm, he said she was playing happily and looked well. There is plenty of water as the river runs through the private estate and the area is vast covering 4 villages and masses of cover. Lots of dog walkers go Babraham-Stapleford walk and circus was still in Sawston. Postered a bit in Sawston and did some handouts. - And nothing to do with this but I just had to comment that Mum24collies has the best behaved dogs I have EVER seen or met!

good idea :)

Have spoken to Railtrack re line from Shelford to Whittlesford Parkway ... they haven't found anything .. phew! Would it be possible for someone local to have a chat with the vicar, if not already done, maybe he/she would bring Lizzies plight to the attention of the congregation on Sunday as well as keeping a lookout. Come on Lizzie we need a sighting!
Desperate Greekies
Lizzie does have a collar and disc with my number on it.
Notified the paper and Radio Star today, Radio will plug her had to pay for ad in Camb Eve News as they wouldnt run a story.
No news again so far today. Thanks everyone
mum24collies
Just a quick post as I have togo out again. Spent about 4 hours with Hilary (Fly) but unfortunately no sightings of Lizzie. There are lots of posters up and we handed a few more out to dog walkers that hadn't heard of her. If there are anymore sightings of Lizzie I will go back but the area that she could be is so vast its like looking for a needle in a haystack. Stay safe Lizzie girl..xx
mum24collies
Sorry I am late getting back and thanks for responses. I have phoned Hilary (Fly) and also emailed her. I plan at being at the George pub Babraham for 10am so if anyone else can join us it would be much appreciated. I have printed some posters off and cooked some sausages in garlic. Ideally they should be cooked there so she might het a whiff of them..:) but I don't have the time to do that nor do I have a camping stove. Lets hope we have some good news to report which will cheer Michelle up no end.
Fly
to mum24collies/Michelle If u r going over tomorrow please call me on 07710752448 I can go over from 7.30 - 9am if thats any help. If she is hungry perhaps a little bbq and some sausages might lure her?? I will not be online after 7pm until tomorrow daytime.

Have been there today. Michele has posters all round where she has been seen. Just a bit down the road on the right coming out of the village, to Sawston. This side of Sawston in the playing field is a Wild West Circus. This area is linked by footpaths to the area she has been seen. A young lady called Nicola who works at the circus (has 4 pugs) has said that if someone drops a poster they can put it at their entrance. They are there for a week. I have put one poster on a tree there and as I put it up there were a lots of dog walkers coming over to look. It's Brabaham Road. Worth a smattering as it's so near if anyone can put a few posters up.

I have been looking too and told various people who walk at Babraham. The guy that I know that lives at the Institute and drives around there every day is looking out too.
mum24collies
Is there anyone that could help to look for Lizzie? She has been seen at the Institute at Babraham, on the pathway that leads up to it and at Holme farm.I am 30 miles away but going up in the morning to have a walk around if anyone could join me that would be great. This little girl needs to be found asap as she must be so frightened. Anyone? Please!!
Jane
Shared on my Facebook page and also Bring Mabel Home, Lizzie looks beautiful, I hope she comes home soon xx
Fly
Just had a thought, if anyone is near perhaps a larger poster, or a few A4 in the Park & Ride waiting room and around the car park, loads of people will see that.
Fly
Very sorry to read about poor Lizzie, and so soon after her adoption,(memories of Yftakis!) Greek dogs are more resourceful and used to wandering around in Greece and finding food, Yftaki seemed to home in on fast food place and raiding their bins by night.
If someone can give me aclear description of last place she was seen I am not far away and may be able to go and look around but all the details are conflicting. I am at CB1 and not far from Babraham.IS SHE WEARING A COLLAR? Fingers crossed she is found soon. FLY
Auntie Katie
I'm so sorry that I've just seen this one, have changed area to East Anglia so that its seen by more people local to us. Thank you Kathy for sending the link to the facebook page. Will email all the usual local contacts too but am pretty confident you have covered them all already. I hope she is found soon so she can start to fully enjoy her new life. xx
Cath
I know someone that lives and works at the Babraham Institute so I will alert them. I also walk there regualarly so will tell everyone I know. I can put some posters up in Babraham and Sawston tomorrow. I dog train in Fulbourn on Sunday so I will tell everyone there too.
