i can say no more than what has been said by kimmybear and angus, this must be so hard for the owners, but one place we do know where Bailey will be is in every ones heart...

This is a very sad situation to be in - still in no mans land but grieving at the same time, I sincerely hope that this was not Bailey & we will continue to look in the back ground for Bailey but totally understand owners need to try and accept some closure on her, So very sorry that you are having to try to deal with more upset and turmoil, Thinking of you x

Anyone out there, please help Chritina's family remove the posters, as it will be a distressing task for them. Still keep Bailey in you heart and mind. Thank you so much. x

Christina, most certainly we will keep Bailey on the missing pages. Sadly, it is a high probability this was Bailey on the rail line. You know your own dog, and the only reason she wouldn't have come home, is if she couldn't, for whatever reason. Your girls need closure, and so do you, so I think you are doing the right thing. You have done everything you can to get Bailey home and it is only through your hard work that you have reached this point, which is better than not knowing anything at all. You are NOT giving up on Bailey, you are just accepting the probability yet keeping that glimmer of possibility and hope alive, just in case. That door will never be shut. If Bailey has gone to heaven, she is safe in the arms of God now and will be watching over you until you are all reunited again. And, if she isn't, her chip will bring her home. The poster at the station is a brilliant idea, maybe also try the ends of the line as well, or wherever drivers dismount. Keep it there and renew it if need be. Let's see what happens. You need time to grieve and subsequently to heal, maybe have a little service or prayers for Bailey, with her photo and a candle, or something. Let Rupert be there too. This will help you all. You are an amazing lady and Bailey, Rupert and your human kids :-) will always be so proud of you. I suspect we can get a link on here somewhere for the Vet scanning and well done on the GPS collar for Rupert (and your girls!). Hang in there and remember everything I said to you in my e-mail. Bless you all. Bailey wherever you are, you are truly loved girl! Forever. x Last edited: 2011-07-07 20:23:35 by Kimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders

Hi,after big sobs & hugs last night ,which always helps, we've decided to start taking posters down but i have made a new one just to put at Midgham station asking for any confirmation of seeing Bailey on the track, and hopefully the right driver will see it and respond,i really truely appreciate all your kind words & thoughts.thank you once again. if ok then ,can bailey stay in missing untill further notice & i will update accordingly. Regarding my annoyance with vets and the scanning saga, i did some research and apparently a campaign was started by Bruce Forsyth who has our sentiments exactly. www.vetsgetscanning.co.uk. i have printed off a car sticker & was wondering if doglost could have a link on the home page to help with the awareness.I also have purchased a gps collar from retriever tracking for rupert but may use it for my teenage daughters instead (not funny they said)xxx christina

We can leave Bailey on the Missing section forever if need be. Even if she goes into the Reunited (Rainbow Bridge) she has her chip so will still be traced if it isn't her. It is possible she was on the track for a while, yes, and as has been said, they do not always get reported. No one would like to be in your position; this is terribly hard. Okay, why not take a break and let your mind rest and maybe something will come to you and help you figure it out. But, as I said Bailey will always be on this site and we can leave her in the Missing section. She will never be lost or forgotten. Speak to the driver that thinks he saw her (or the sawn). That will help you. x
nikki
I have to admit that I am finding it difficult to accept that it was Bailey, as being a big dog surely someone would have reported it. Christina, my mum is back to work on Friday so I am going to get her to keep an eye out for the family with the new Golden Retriever in Tadley if thats OK with you? want to try and rule this in or out. Its so awful not knowing for definate if it was Bailey..I really feel for you and your family. x

hi everyone, yes it has been a mad few days. coincidently my neighbour also asked a train driver yesterday at midgham station, who said had not seen anything but would ask other drivers. he actually went & found my mobile no.off a poster after his shift last night & finally called today.he said he is a big animal lover but needed to be brutally honest & said ,any animal, deer or otherwise can be knocked down one day and no evidence within a few days ,mainly due to birds.kites, rooks etc.he said freight train drivers never have a clue what they hit and never stop at local stations to notice posters anyway. he said 'track kill' is so awful seeing it day in day out they choose not to bother looking in any great detail therefore why nothing is reported.he said he actually knows the train driver who lives next to Nikki and will ask more drivers for any confirmation. i am very confused as what to do next or to believe as assuming there never will be any evidence now. Nikki, i'm also very confused about the 'swan' w/c 20th june considering bailey went on 1st June.i doubt she was running loose so close to home for 20 days without any local sightings,so does this mean she was still visible for 20 days on the track? and lots of drivers surely would have seen this'swan'or baileys poster.my daughters are really needing closure and want me to take posters down as they are in our face everday on school runs etc.and update facebook page .i'm not entirely sure if i should now believe bailey was on the track and really let ourselves start to mourn. thankyou for your support.christina

I have sent Christina a long e-mail. I think she needs to figure out whether this feels right or not, although from her posts below, she may already have. On the face of it, it would answer a lot of questions, however, it is hard not knowing for certain. But, Bailey is microchipped so if she should still be out there, she could be found in the future - stranger things have happened. We'll wait until Christina and her family have had a chance to weigh it all up, as they must be so distraught with all the searching and hoping and now this. A real emotional rollercoaster. Lydnsyd, I wonder if Network Rail has since gone and removed the animal without us knowing, as it was some days ago that the train driver saw this. Sadly, many of our beloved dogs are being lost to the railways. Most are not recovered. Some owners could still be searching, as Bailey's may have been, without knowing. It is heartbreaking. At least Christina has a possibile closure, although not the type anyone would want. I totally understand and share your frustration. I have felt so sick and upset about all this, but Bailey's family must be a million times worse. We'll wait to hear.....
LYDNSYD
P.S. I don't think Bailey was wearing a collar when she escaped.
LYDNSYD
This is so frustrating!!!!!! If an animal was spotted on the track even after several weeks there must still be something. Bailey was a big dog so even thinking the worst ..if this was her there must still be evidence that she was there! If network rail don't have enough manpower to check the track for Bailey would it be possible to pay a rail official to do it! I think the Newspapers should hear about this appauling situation ...anyone on here got contacts in newspaper circles?? I feel for you Christina and you must be going through all sorts of emotions at the moment. There is obviously a possibility that this isn't Bailey but you need to know either way. Best Wishes Lydia

Thank you, Nikki. I will e-mail Christina tonight to see if we can figure out whether the whole scenario fits. It would explain a few unanswered questions about Bailey's disappearance. You have been extremely kind and helpful and it is so appreciated. Please thank you neighbour too. Christina, I will e-mail you shortly. x

i've just got home and my neighbour has just popped his head outside the door to let me know that he looked this morning and this evening but there is nothing on the track. He spoke to some other train drivers and they have seen nothing along that stretch of track for the last couple of weeks. :-(x

Any news? x
DogLostKimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
Maybe you could go to the newspapers? They just might use this for a story. It would also let others know what can happen on the railway lines and Bailey, even by being on here, has helped others become more aware of these dangers. I think Network Rail should be more understanding. For one, the posters were there and no one cared to report it! For two, if a dog is visible it MUST be removed and if the train driver saw it, it was visible. Christina, try the station again - they didn't say "no" - ask if they could retrieve the collar. They may not be able to, but worth trying again. Are there any late night workers fixing the tracks nearby? There are some lovely, kind workers out there. How about offering money to someone at the station to go and look in their break time? Sometimes you can find a kind person at a station to help, but it depends who you get. Same as anywhere really. Even if you did go on that train, you probably wouldn't have been able to see, or maybe you weren't meant to go on the train in case it was too distressing. Don't beat yourself up. You have done wonders to find Bailey and you are still seeing this through. Let's see how Nikki gets on and then you let us know what you think. Wherever Bailey is, I guarantee she knows how hard you have worked and loves you so much for it. Remember, dogs are telepathic, whether on earth or in heaven! And, if it is Bailey (or whichever dog it is) she did NOT suffer. I am so sorry you have to go thru this and my heart goes out to you and your family. With love and kind wishes, Kim x Last edited: 2011-07-05 22:24:04 by Kimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders

my neighbour has just emailed me back. He has said that Network Rail don't have the resources to walk the lines and as many animals are found on the track it is a low priority (for them MAYBE..but not for the animals families!) he did say that he was 99% sure there wouldn't be anything left on the line by now...... he is driving a stopper tomorrow morning from Thatcham to Reading and knows where the sighting was so will know exactly where he is to look. I'm still praying it is not Bailey... really feel for you Christina it must be so frustrating when you can't seem to get an answer from anyone to confirm. Will update tomorrow once my neighbour has let me know.
nikki
Hi Ladies, I am so annoyed with Network Rail... these are clearly people with no pets!!! I am like a dog with a bone now (excuse the pun!). I have just emailed my neighbour who is a lovely guy asking him if he can either speak to someone at network rail to get them to walk the line or give me a name of someone to speak to. He will be driving the train tomorrow so will be able to see if there is anything. Im not going to let this lie. If it had been a human on the line they would have removed..what makes someones pet any different - they are part of the family :-(.

DogLostKimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
Oh Christina, our posts on here were crossing. Yes, if they had paid attention and done what is only kind human decency and reported the dog then you would have been saved all this distress and upset. I get SO angry with Network Rail. It only takes one decent person to give the poster number a call. But, as they didn't, you wouldn't have reached this point without all this work, you may always have been wondering, so it has all been worth it, never think otherwise. But I know where you are coming from. You know, sometimes things are meant to take the long route. A good example of why, is to teach Network Rail a thing or two! If this is Bailey then maybe this will give them a conscience! I am working on Network Rail at the moment for this same reason, and we can all do stuff like this. We need to complain to this company and from experience, they don't much care, but people power can change that. Anyone reading this - please tell Network Rail what you feel about this. Christina, let's see what information Nikki can come up with for you. We don't want to act in haste, so we'll keep Bailey on here until we have further info, okay? I am so very sorry.... but let's wait a little longer.... Last edited: 2011-07-05 13:48:37 by Kimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders

Nikki, you are a gem. Thank you for your kind help. Are you able to talk to Christina again with further info if your friend can get it? I am unable to phone her - she knows why I can't phone. We need some positive identification for her. This is why I wish we could scan these poor dogs. Can your friend walk the line or get someone to do that, maybe they could get the collar, if still on? Anything to help ID the dog and give peace to Christina. If the dog is visible that could be the excuse your friend needs to walk the line as they need to be buried or removed from sight. Network Rail would have to do this if they received complaints from public of seeing a dog on the lines. Would that work, Nikki? Someone would have to physically walk there and if they are asked to help Christina, you may just get a nice chap do that. Maybe not, but really wort a try. Christina, hang in there - we need to get you more positive info first. Deep breath, okay. It may not be Bailey, but it sounds possible, so let's see what ID we can get or find out how we can know for sure, okay? Please come back on this site for a while longer yet, it is not over till we know. If it should be Bailey, I will help you via e-mail as I truly know what you are going through. x

hi,yes nikki was very kind & called to explain.i have called network rail again and expressed my dissapointment as relied on incidents being logged and now we know first hand not all train drivers bother, especially as a photo/poster has been at midgham station from the begining & on a placard on A4 in midgham village.they said they will try and get someone to walk the track but no promises.its so sad anyway, but with all the extra anguish & effort from all parties that could have been avoided over the last 5 weeks. i also feel stupid that i didn't think to get on a train at midgham and get off at thatcham,to check the track myself, but with all the potential sightings & network rail having nothing reported i suppose i had eliminated the railway.i will update as soon as know more.thank you Christina
nikki
also, as discussed with Christine earlier re the call she had on Friday, there is no sheep between Brimpton and Midgham...so highly unlikely it would have been a sheep on the line. Thx
nikki
Hi Kimmybear, my neighbour came home tonight and I have spoken to him...not great news i'm afraid. I called Christine earlier to let her know that my neighbour was travelling on a train (sat next to the driver) when the driver thought it was a swan on the line due to the light colouring between brimpton and midgham - he then got to midgham and saw the Doglost poster to which he said 'that is the dog back there on the line'... this was w/c 20th June. My neighbour did say they don't often report animals on the line...which has slightly annoyed me as if he had seen the poster why didn't he say something!. I did try and walk up the line for Christine but couldn't get nowhere near it, so my neighbour will be driving a train to Reading on Wednesday morning and is going to have a look...but he is 90% sure it was Bailey :-(
DogLostKimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
Nikki, that would be fantastic. Thank you. Not all dogs at the railways get reported, sadly. I don't know if it is because the drivers are unaware or if they just don't report, but they are supposed to. I lost my own dog on the railway lines and she was not reported. It was a Network Rail worker that saw the posters and called us. My hope is that one day all railways will be fenced off and until then I wish we could make all railway workers carry and use microchip scanners, but that's a big ask.... one day...... and Christina, even with the vets we still have a way to go it seems. We just have to keep making our wishes known to all these people and at some point it has to come right! Meantime, where is Bailey?? Who has you? Come on sweetie, come back home! x
nikki
Hi Christine, My next door neighbour works for Network Rail in Reading but used to be a train driver..he is on holiday until tomorrow but has friends on facebook that are train drivers. I have left him a note to ask around his train driver friends and colleagues to see if they have heard anything. Will post as soon as I know. Thx
LYDNSYD
It's such a shame you haven't been able to get in touch with Scruff's owner, although he may not have retained any relevent numbers. Jayne at Head Office may still have an email address. If you have read Scruff's page it would appear that he wasn't officially reported to Network Rail and it was only by chance that a poster was seen. Train Drivers must have a reporting centre in the South East - is there any way of trying to get word to them that way.At the stations where they stop I wonder if any are manned so you could make enquiries or even try to ask a guard on a train while it has stopped. Someone on this site must know of a South East train driver or a friend of one they could get in contact with!!! It's all very frustrating and will seem an impossible task but you have done so well so far. I know this is going into the realms of fantasy but don't suppose you know anyone that has a Microlite plane that would be willing to have a look. Failing that, I think you might have to poster the train stop off points so that the Train Drivers can see them...it was a poster that found poor Scruff. As for Vets checking for Micro Chips ...well that is an emotive issue and Like you I think it should be automatically done. I'm really hoping that you get news of Bailey soon.
clj
have called network rail several times and still there has been nothing logged regarding sheep & as i have so no more info as date or place not sure what to do, surely someone else on the slow trains would have noticed something.been calling Matt(scruff) as suggested but not answering all weekend or today.I went to a vets in Tadley today & have been quite miffed all day. It seems there is a big loop hole in the mircochip process.apparently unless a pet arrives as 'lost' then they do not scan unless when asked to microchip.(my vet in thatcham said they do check new pets & ask questions)surely if all vets, at least, arcoss the whole country rountinely scanned all pets when registering then all the pets either stolen & passed on to unsuspecting owners could be reunited .i feel really strongly about this, as the microchip is fantastic but not being used to its full capacity but with all vets on board routinely checking ,alot more pets would be back where they belong.everyone should urge their vets to take this on as a matter of routine and not wasting a golden oppotunity for verifying pets.

Anything happening? x
LYDNSYD
Christina, I have to agree with Kimmybear re: ruling out the rail line! I've been worried about the rail lines right from the start - it hopefully won't be Bailey but you need to know either way. If Network Rail won't check the track then perhaps they would let you contact the train drivers. When Bailey first went missing and I spoke to you, I mentioned that sadly a dog missing from Padworth was found by the side of the track. The dog was called Scruff ref 28726 and the owner (Matt) only found out about Scruff when a train driver mentioned to his son about the dog he had seen by the side of the track - his son had seen a poster and called Scruffs owner. It might be possible to contact Scruffs owner Matt to see if he still has the train drivers telephone number - Matt's mobile phone number is 07782324826 - check out Scruff's page. Failing that plaster all the train/rail crossing with posters so that the train drivers can also see them I know you will have a niggling doubt if you don't rule it out.
DogLostKimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
Christina, you need to rule out that railway thing. Can you ask for a Network Rail worker to walk on that part of the track to check? Sometimes you get a nice person who will understand. I don't know if that's possible where you are? They usually remove/bury dogs (and any animals)if in sight of passengers etc, so you need to be quick to make sure. I doubt it is anything to worry about, but please keep on at the train station/Network Rail for your peace of mind. They don't have scanners on the railways. Can the farmer see from where he is? Hope it gets ruled out. Yes, it's very strange that we don't know for certain where Bailey is, so she could have been taken in. Are you able to sniff around at the house where lady has seen new dog? You would know if it was Bailey. I am so sorry she is not back with you yet. If wishes could make it so, she would be. xxx
clj
had another mad day on friday, had a call in the morning from someone who through the grapevine heard that a train driver had mentioned a sheep on track but maybe could be bailey due to colour. so called network rail again, but have had nothing logged so asked local farmer today but not much to go on ,had a call last evening from a very nice lady from Tadley who saw newspaper ad & had noticed a neighbour with 'new' pale golden retriever who could maybe be bailey .i sent her more photos before i dashed straight there banging the door down, she is now doubtful due the coat being thicker as if been spade(apparently retrivers' coat changes). she will make a point to interact with this family and keep an eye out and let me know more.
its great to know due to all the kind help that people 'know' about bailey. thanks to all. my gut feeling is she is with someone and not actually running wild. is there a pet detective agency out there? missing bailey is horrible but i just want to solve the mystery too.christina
Philippa
Sorry that you haven't managed to find Bailey yet. I would say that your posters are giving you a very high profile around here - most people I mention her to already know about her and are keeping their eyes open. With this amount of awareness, hopefully it will be just a matter of time before you get news or a sighting. Keep positive although I know it must be hugely worrying. Good luck.
LYDNSYD
So very sorry to hear that the last sighting wasn't Bailey but keep up the positive thinking as your are doing everything you can to bring her home. I Hope you get some more sighting soon.
DogLostKimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
To answer your question, Christina, yes they would call and ask for reward. But bear in mind that people get genuine calls and tricksters. So far no one has asked for a reward for their sightings, have they? No, most people are just kind and want to help you. But, if it leads to the safe return of Bailey, then you can give a reward, but as I say kind people probably will not ask for it. If you feel they deserve it, then by all means you give it. Around here we have gypsies checking out the missing dog posters and call up claiming to have the dog - so beware of that type of thing. You need to see the dog first. No dog, no money. If they have the dog they will do this. If you feel unable to deal with this type of call, get DogLost to do it for you, but if you have a person on the phone saying they have your dog, you don't want to lose them, so deal with it best you can. But I'm doubtful you'll have to face that, but just be prepared. I can't help thinking Bailey may have been taken in by someone and if so, at some point this will come to light and shell be back.
clj
hi,unfortunately the lady (who was very apologetic) went to see other dog ,so now thinks it was that lab and not bailey but will keep alert in the area anyway. big big shame but lets still hope. thanks christina

Great news that you have had a possible sighting!. Burys Bank Road is closed until Friday. Will keep my eyes peeled as I always go that way to the retail park/Tescos.

This is wonderful news - just what you have been waiting for. I've just managed to catch a missing dog at Pangbourne today so lets hope we can have a double celebration!!! POTENTIAL SIGHTING !! had a call 8am this morning, potential sighting in Pigeon Farm rd RG19 8XD at bottom in the loop. this area is inbetween & backs onto golf course in burys bank rd, & newbury racecourse & opposite greenham common.rushed straight out ,walked about with rupert and lady who called me, whilst my mum drove around. spoke to several residents & no-one knows of any golden retrievers living in local area.a golden lab was out roaming so my lady will confirm asap if mistaken for this dog but seemed really sure it had longer fur and cream not golden with no collar. will update if hear more.
clj
thanks lulu thats very kind & helpful. security guards have one on new greenham park, very willing & helpful as caroline said.i checked posters around the common ,burys bank rd was closed not sure for how many days. If someone has her & wants money do you think they would call & ask, even though Reward is not on posters or ads?

As Dee said, Christina poster and poster. That is all you can do at the moment and all the press has been fantastic. I know it is very hard the longer it drags on without finding her, but one day, you have to! They crop up at the strangest times and places - you never know. But what you do know, is it was not the roundabout dog. See how far you've come? Now, we need a Bailey sighting! Or someone's conscience to be pricked!

ok thanks i'll take a poster today. since bailey has been lost i have been looking on all sites such as preloved, gumtree &

Christina, have you given a poster to the security office at New Greenham Park? (off the A339, large round building just off the roundabout). They helped me find my dog who went for an adventure trip a year ago. They are very helpful and there are lots of woods around. I am working abroad at the moment but will get a poster put in the village shop as I only live a mile or two from Greenham. Keep hoping and looking, I know how you feel.Caroline

Christina, keep putting up more and more posters. Never stop, there can never be enough. Dogs disappear for weeks on end, months even, when loose. In this heat she will be lying low only coming out for food and water, when the sun and heat have gone away and it's very typical not to get many sightings during this time. Keep going, we're all with you xx

I had a good look round Greenham on Saturday and sunday. I presume you have taken posters to the vets in Newbury? Can't understand how she has just disappeared.....she looks such a lovely do, it must be devastating and extremely frustrating for you. Someone must have her. Lets hope this week is the week she comes home. x

ok ,thank you everyone for support. to be honest,im not sure what else i can be doing now, feel rather at at loss & not sure what to think anymore. I suppose deep down i cant imagine her running wild for so long as she is such a people/children frindly dog and so expected the 'microchip' would bring her home if found.I did more posters around newbury yesterday but really need another sighting .thanks again,Christina, all your interest really helps to keep the chin up.(If only i had a pack of tracker dogs on the day she went)

Hi - I am still spreading the word around Tadley with other dog walkers I meet, hopefully if she is anywhere around here, you will get news of her. Also, tomorrow afternoon is the Dogs Trust Open Day near Newbury - there may well be lots of dog owners from Thatcham/Tadley area - can you make it and do some canvassing? If not, would you like me to see if I could get a tannoy announcement made?
Contented Canines
Hi Christina.
Yes a dog can pick up the scent in that time frame no problem. However, the rain will of course cause it to fade to a degree, as the scent sits on top of what ever the dog has trodden on, or brushed against. If it is a pourous surface then the scent will embed itself. Time will of course cause this to lessen.
I have been out again around AWE but no luck I'm afraid.
clj
been out earlier, dropped a poster in to golf course opposite greenham common, told the sorting office at Thatcham near train station that bailey is still missing so keep her poster up on notice board. i ran out of stapples for my gun so intend to go out and put some more up later. I spoke to lady again about the sighting on thursday, the golden retriever was actually on opposite side to common near trees at the end of Pigeon farm rd. I made Rupert smell Baileys collar & he did really get excited and had me in and out the common twice! maybe deers who knows.!
Does anyone know if its likely that a dog can pick up a scent 2 days later and after heavy rain. one trail led to a 'burger' in a bush. typical labrador.thanks christina
clj
thank you everyone!!! i went twice today with rupert. hopefully she has taken cover due to bad weather tonight and not travelling too far away.I spoke to a few cyclists and horse riders and dog walkers also put a few posters up and do more in the morning.if you see a crazy lady with a whistle and a choc lab thats us!!thanks again, christina

Hi Christina..I drove round Greenham tonight but no joy. I am around all weekend so will go up there both days as the weather is supposed to be good it will be busy. She has to be out there somewhere!
Contented Canines
You will find her Christina. Due to work commitments over the weekend, Monday afternoon would be the earliest I could get over to GC. We too go over there sometimes with ours, so I will also spread the word to walkers. Best bet is to swamp it over the weekend and speak with everyone. As you know it gets very busy over there at the weekend. Weekday afts tend to be quieter, but I will do what I can for you.
Keep your chin up, thinking of you.

Oh, I am so excited! If Bailey knows this area, then it could well be her! Make sure you scent this area very well to keep her there, as it is a "safe" area as you all know it, including Rupert! Take Rupert and see what he does - follow his smell. I am praying so hard for you! Leave some food there too as where there is food she will return (if the foxes don't eat it first). I wish I was nearer to help you - so many people are wishing and praying and hoping for Bailey to get home safe and sound VERY soon! At last, we hear about the dog on the roundabout! Thank goodness for that! Christina, all this press is fantastic. YOU ARE BRILLIANT!!!! Bailey will be so proud of you! x (Contented Canines, will e-mail - thank you).

just had another call.someone is convinced saw bailey yesterday in greenham common, RG14 near pinchington lane carpark opposite pigeon farm rd .saw her photo in newbury paper today, she was out with her children but noticed the dog was on its own so wasn't sure to approach her. i walk the dogs here but use entrance from crookham hill, old thornford rd, so feasable from brimpton side.going to put posters around the common now and whistle for england, thanks christina
LYDNSYD
Christina, at least as you say you can now rule out the Floral Way dog but it could still be Bailey in the Tadley sightings-as you said she knows the area so keep taking Rupert to do some scenting & if it is her she could find her way back home.Don't forget - the first Tadley sighting at Birch Road of a limping dog seemed to fit Baileys description! The description of the dog Contented Canines saw.. to me doesn't sound like Bailey but I could be wrong. I didn't know there were travellers in the area - have you checked out their site to see what dogs are around there? Contented Canine said the dog was very thin so if it does belong to the travellers couldn't an RSPCA inspector or Traveller Liason Officer check out the dogs with a view to reviewing the dogs health/ welfare and while they are at it see what dogs the do have on site? Depending on how friendly the Travellers are (they aren't all bad people)they may even take a poster. I know you are going through some Highs & Low's but it's commendable that you have done so much to get people aware that Bailey is missing so keep up the Positive thinking & remember that dogs are amazingly resilient. Were you able to contact the farmers/landowner near your home as I still think it is worth doing? Now that Bailey is in the papers & you have already had some phone calls it means that even more people are taking notice that Bailey is missing so you should hopefully get more positive sightings. We're all rootin for you and Bailey. You are doing a Fantastic job!
clj
we also went out tonight but had started to wonder if it was a dog living on the travellers site just roaming as they do.thank you everyone for all the time spent helping to find bailey.had a few other calls in responce to newspaper ads, finally a guy called to confirm it was his golden retriever at floral way roundabout.just a very over exhausted young dog ,having a lay down on his way home. at last the ad has paid off,at least it ruled out bailey being in an accident. So..., 3 sightings in Tadley area witin a week, but still unsure if the same dog or even bailey, all sightings have said the dog is very thin .lets hope a new day brings some more news.thanks again Christina . PS(mum & dad ,if you are still up reading this, then you shouldn't be,go to bed and get some rest ,have a night off from searching the countryside ,appreciate all your effort.x
Contented Canines
Kimmybear, If you can email me I will explain further, but I will be contacting the police that cover that area.
Thanks
Lorraine
I must say I was surprised that the police just let the dogs go with the travellers without actually checking they were theirs and checking for microchips.
DogLostKimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
Contented Canines, thank you for all that. Nuisance that there is a travellers site there. Shame those dogs could not have been caught before the travellers got them back as they tend to take lost dogs for themselves & dog warden/police could have checked for chips if got there first. I wonder if you and/or Bailey's owner would be able to speak further with police to see if they would be willing to check the site? Would be nice to rule it out for Bailey's owner. Come on Bailey, where are you sweetie? x Christina, one day the call you receive will be for Bailey. You deserve to get her home. x

We spent well over an hour driving around AWE and the surroundings searching. I spoke to the police at AWE and they hadn't seen any dogs, but radioed through to a local Hants Police unit that turned up to speak to me. He stated that a dog matching what I had seen, along with another darker coloured dog, were also seen by himself this afternoon, but claimed that a traveller from the site opposite came out and picked the dogs up. He said that the guy called the dogs and they ran to him. The traveller site at Paices Hill is actually covered by Thames Valley Police, but due to it being on the boundary with Hants Pol, they tend to deal rather than call a TVP unit and have to wait. I have left both your's and my number with the officer, and he will have the description passed to the morning shift.
Contented Canines
She had the long furry dropped ears of a retriever, not like the rose ears of a lurcher. She had the longer furred tail but the body coat was very short. Yes she may have lost the coat. She had a jet black nose like Bailey. She had very dark pronounced nipples but didn't have the typical flank of a lurcher. Is she tall for a retriever? Seeing as she has been away for some time now she would have lost weight, and may have a different appearance to what you are used to? I went back out for about an hour at around 4.30pm in that same area but no luck. Did Bailey have a collar on when she left? Do you have any other pictures of her with a side view?
clj
Thanks contented canines, the fact she responded to bailey when called sort of gives me hope or would a dog respond to anything? but what about the face, did you get close enough to compare to baileys poster.
clj
so not a retriever either then ? bailey has been gone 3 weeks now so could be fairly thin and may have lost her coat due to stress & she isn't extra long coated anyway.she does have a lovely bushy tail but i'm not sure if she could be mistaken for a greyhound or cross .maybe this dog seen today is the same one as sightings last weekend.thanks christina
Contented Canines
It was today.
Looking at Skye and the dog I saw today, I would say no it wasn't. The dog today was of shorter coat on the body, but long fur on the tail. She definately had the appearance of a greyhound. She wasn't like lurchers I have seen before. Sorry.Last edited: 2011-06-23 17:50:34 by Contented Canines

thank you !! contented canines .could you look at poster of SKYE to see if she is more like the dog you saw.what day was the sighting? thanks christina
LYDNSYD
Hi Contented Canines ...there is a missing dog that may fit your description called SKYE she is a Lurcher and went missing from Calcot there was a 'possible'sighting of her in Tadley. She has been missing for quite some time - could you have a look at her page - She is ref: 22352. I think this might fit the description more than Bailey but who knows!
Contented Canines
Further to below post, this was around 12 - 1230. Due to the restrictions and wooded area around AWE I could not chase after her, sorry.
Contented Canines
Hi. I am a local resident to AWE, and when driving past what was the old Falcon Pub I saw a very light coloured dog trotting along the AWE fence line. When I turned around and caught up with it, it was what looked like a greyhound cross. Taller than a standard retriever, very thin with ribs and pelvic bone showing. It was definately a bitch and I stopped and called the name Bailey. She did approach but was very shy and ran off. She had no collar on, very short fur typical to a greyhound, but had longer fur on her tail. I don't wish to get your hopes up, but could this be your dog? I did call the police as I didn't want her to run in the road. If it is Bailey, then we know she's well and where she is generally. She was trotting towards Baughurst from the Falcon Pub.
I hope it is her.

Christina, that is a good point about the travellers site - a number of lost dogs have been found at sites. You may need to sniff around there - but carefully and not alone! Also, be aware that sometimes travellers will phone and say they have got your dog because they've seen a poster and want money. If this happens you need to tell police or at least tell DogLost immediately for assistance. If you think there is any connection to the travellets site, speak to the dog wardenas well. Hopefully, Bailey is still having an adventure and has a nice place to bed down out of the rain. Keep going - we are all so proud of you and Bailey will make it all worthwhile when she's caught. Bumped due to press today. x

a poster is on the door of 101 Carnations florists, you are clearly postering very well clj as mum said there are posters everywhere. I so hope the newspapers bring some good news, i saw it in the advertiser yesterday. Is the traveller site near where she might have been seen on saturday?

thank you lulu64uk. very kind! No news to report i'm sad to say. maybe the bad weather has kept her in hiding.hopefully something may come from newspaper ads this week. her photo is well and truely 'out there ' now, so lets just HOPE some more! Basingstoke gazette may do the small editorial but did an ad with photo too .The freebie advertiser today ,newbury weekly news out thursday and gazette friday & freebie paper next week . If she's going back to Tadley, could be she's working her way back home. Make sure you do the scent again in your home area to bring her back in. Maybe even scent the man's garden, as if she stays there, she should be safe as they will see her. Now, remember if you do catch up with her, she has been running wild, so she may be easily scared off, so go very gently so as not to frighten her. Give her time for it to sink in that it is you - do not chase her, follow her slowly backing off if need be. With sightings you are almost home! Let's hope they keep coming in. But at least you know she's out there! Well done!!! Keep it up - you are not far now. Once you know where she goes, you can leave food i.e. the man's garden or Tadley, so she will keep returning, but sounds like she's on her way back towards you now. Maybe go to the Tadley place she was seen at and leave food right at that spot? Bear in mind foxes get hungry too, but if she knows its there, she may return even if the foxes got it first. Or, just sit and watch and wait there. Do shifts. x

I'm so pleased that you're getting sightings in. Remember what I said about getting yourself a good map and plotting where the sightings are... and make sure that you have a good look around for barns, stables, sheds, woods etc in that area that Bailey could be hiding up in. You can do it - come on Bailey girl, Mum needs you home now, enough playing games out there! x

DogLostKimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
YES!!!!! A sighting! This could fit - better than the welly man! Christina, now's the time to really swing into action - everyone out and POSTER like mad in the sighting area and further out from that area. Most dogs do get found - eventually - but boy do they make us work hard in the meantime! You are brilliant with your publicity, let us know every time there's a press release. Oh, this feels so much better now! Okay Bailey, your family's coming!
LYDNSYD
Fantastic news. The best sighting times for missing dogs is around sundown & sunset so 9pm would fit in.If you can, go around these times. Now that you have postered the area hopefully you will get more phone calls.Contact all the vets in that area too. Don't worry too much about the limping as missing dogs tend to wear out their pads hence the limping but it's usually nothing serious. If you see her she might not recognise you and will run away from you, that is normal so if you get close sit down and make a noise ie sing, cry anythig that might get her interested so she can come to you in her own time. You will need a slip lead & lots of treats including smelly tinned pilchards or smelly sausages. As well as posters in the area perhaps you could put flyers through the doors of houses near by. Come on Bailey - it's time to go back home!!!If you need an extra pair of hands just let me know.
clj
A call at last just had call from Tadley Pet shop. a customer saw poster & said saw a dog just like bailey & limping.9pm last night in birch rd which is off heath end rd Tadley, near Calleva Park roundabout. we have just been with rupert in wooded area opposite birch rd & left a scent .we will go out again and no doubt again later.hopefully Bailey wont travel too far especially if limping. also will do more posters for this area.
LYDNSYD
Getting Bailey into the newpapers is really good news - Well Done! You really have pulled out all the stops. I keep thinking about this man wearing Wellies - that is an odd one ie. who would wear wellies, I do to walk my dogs if it's been raining so this man is most probably local. Have you checked with the vets O'Gormans which is just a minute away - has anyone brought in a 'new' Golden Retriever - do they automatically scan new dogs?Make sure they are still aware that Bailey is still missing. What about putting flyers into letterboxes in the surrounding area. I was also thinking about your Placards at the roundabout - if you do have to replace them due to rain damage etc. Make them bigger also you can get flourescent backing paper from craft shops i.e. Hobby Craft so you can use that and place your poster in the middle so it will draw attention to your plight day & night. I'm so glad you are visiting the local farms/estates as they may not have seen your posters + Rupert returning with a baby deer has been worrying me. I hope you get the much needed calls as you now need to know either way. I also think you should poster further afield just incase the last sighting wasn't Bailey although it is a remakable coincidence. Don't know if you've seen the story about AXEL the Staffie who is now back home but money had to change hands to get him back - have you thought about putting REWARD on your posters. Poor Rupert he really must miss his best friend - my dogs are devoted to each other so I think they would react in the same way & just like you I would give in, why not - once Bailey is back home they can get back to their normal routines. Stay Positive - dogs are very resilient. It will be party time when Bailey is back home!! Best Wishes Lydia

Sometimes gut instincts are correct, but other times we are so distraught, we think they might be and they're not. Now, if it was Bailey, we need to find this man. It might be worth mentioning to the police. They could have some leads. Worth a try. Even if you've phoned before, do it again. There are a few dogs being reunited this week who have been missing for ages - people have taken them in to look after - this could also be what the man in the wellies has done! (Look at Pippa & Cardi's pages! In the Reunited tab). Maybe if in a car, man lives further out - can you get publicity further outwards? And, why not let Rupert on the bed if you want? If its not a problem for you, then who cares? Rupert must be grieving for his sister too. She is out there somewhere! Newpapers often need a shove - give them one and please let us know if it goes ahead as we can bump Bailey up the site. Not that it matters where they are, they are never forgotten! Where are you Bailey, sweetheart? x
clj
Hi ,yes we took rupert out but didn't act in any way really.I have had a few bad days actually and rupert makes it worse as he is my shadow, barks in night now so i finally gave in and he was on our bed ,bad habbits,I know. I waited for newbury weekly news to call back regarding an advert with a photo and an appeal as such, and also a way to raise awareness for the 'dog lost' site, was told the local reporter would call but never did then missed deadline for this week.which was very annoying and upsetting as that seems my only chance .I need more than just a few lines in 'missing pets'.
My gut instinct is still that it was bailey sighted at Floral Way roundabout near Thatcham as geographically it makes sense, the man was seen from behind looking over the dog & was wearing green wellies.not much info but all I have.thanks again for interest .i will also check soggy posters.

Check in everyday hoping that there has been a sighting of Bailey. I will have to replace the posters I put up as the latest downpour has got to them. Has the Ad gone in the papers yet? Did you manage to get into the surrounding fields - look in the areas where a Deer might have their fawns.
LYDNSYD
Hi Christina, Just a thought -As there are lots of fields in your area and adjacent to your house perhaps you could make the landowners/farmers aware that Bailey is missing. If a baby deer was involved it could be that Mum has tried to protect it. I know when my Beagle flushed out a deer with her newborn, the deer tried to head butt my dog and the deer eventually ran off trying to detract my Beagles attention from her fawn - it worked and we could hear my dog doing her Beagle howl a long way off in the distance but I'm pleased to say we were very lucky as after 45mins she returned exhausted. What I'm trying to say is that If a deer was involved & Bailey gave chase she could have travelled quite a distance and as Kimmybear was saying she could have become disorientated. I hope you get some news soon as the not knowing is truly awful & we all feel for you.
DogLostAngus

If you like,to help understand, maybe look on west berks council web site and type in my postcode rg7 5ry in the search box
Our garden is 1.5acre (fairly long & sloping upwards) and is secured with a 6ft fence, neighbours garendens do not have secure fencing so completley free.hence ,once they escaped out front door they then get into nextdoor front garden which leads to their back garden.on our right. the very overgrown woods on A4 opposite Midgham village hall slope up and come to overgrown paddock owned by Abboris, this is where rupert came to which borders on to the very top of our garden on left hand side. We did walk and check fields during first few days and the woods from A4 .The 2 kennels on A4 were on high alert immeadiatley they escaped. i really appreciate your continuous support. thank you
i intend to do an add in local paper,no luck on local radio station .Despite believing on wednesday, after the call,
that it was all over for bailey , I actually feel more positive today and not ready to give up on our very missed girl.thanks again christina

Lydnsyd, we were posting together! We have the same ideas! I think a search of that land/woods/fields is what you need to do. If for no other reason that to rule it out. And, yes the water authority - good idea. We NEED to FIND Bailey! Are there any other kind and able people out there who could walk the fields in this search for Bailey? Owner is trying so hard. Thank you and bless you for any help you can give. x

Christina, you are really doing well. What a good human Mummy! Well, it sounds like Rupert didn't see anything bad happen as I suspect he would have dropped the deer immediately and not brought it home with him. So, that's good news. Please forgive me if you've already done all this, but here's some thoughts. Would Rupert lead you back to where he last saw Bailey do you think? Would he try to look for her - on a long lead maybe? If he's pining for her, he may try and find her. I don't know the area so I'm just thinking off the top of my head, but where are the deer, can you search for where they are/were? If Rupert had a baby deer, maybe the Mum deer kicked out - could have knocked Bailey out for a bit? Maybe she then got disorientated & walked the wrong way and got lost. Stranger things have happened to some of our dogs on here! How about doing something different? Poster in a completely different place or town. Bailey could have been picked up and taken further away & the more people that hear, the better. Also, some dogs can do an 8 mile circuit or more on their own! If Bailey got confused after being hit, whether by a deer or car or anything, she may have gone a few miles the wrong way. Can you poster the woods or greenland where the deer go? Do people go there? Are their ponds? Dogs can survive for ages in the wild so look for a water source. I know it is so disheartening not to have any news, but you are really doing so well - you deserve to get her back. Praying that she is kept safe and you find her very soon. If you need advice or help, keep updating on here. Once we have a sighting, you'll be almost there. x

I drove down the A4 yesterday on my way to Wiltshire and saw your placards - they are very effective. On my way back today I saw your other Sign/Placard (URGENT) which was also effective but as we drove past all I could read was the URGENT bit and didn't get a chance to read further. It may be a good idea to make the signs Bigger if you can, and also place placards along the roads leading off the Roundabout. It is a puzzle as if this dog lying by the side of the road was possibly injured + it was Bailey it Wouldn't be easy moving a dog especially Baileys size. Also there is a Vet practice a minute away on the same side of the road from the area so logic would say that someone finding a dog whether it was Lost or Injured would run to the vets for help. You are doing everything you can but as Kimmybear says keep doing the phone calls and do more Postering further away. Have you also contacted the Canal/Wwaterway authorities? I'm also thinking - If Rupert came back with a Baby Deer that would imply he has been over fields - is it possible you & your family could spread out & walk over adjacent fields just incase Bailey is laid up somewhere & also take Rupert to see if he can trace Bailey's scent. If I can be of any help with searching of if you want me to help with more Postering just let me know. Have you thought about putting a Ad with Baileys Photo in the local Newspapers?

no cctv is present at suggested location. council are very aware of bailey still missing and checked with all related departments and there have been no dog collections . checked with petlog and the microchip manufacturer is a good quality one so would be scanned efficiently.
I have just spoken to the lady again who saw a dog lying in rd at roundabout and she is nearly 100% sure it was a golden retriever, but cant say if was just injured but was definately lying down.
today i will go there to see if any locals saw anything.
its truely bizare where this dog vanished to whether its bailey or not.

Rupert actually had a very tiny baby monkjack deer in his mouth looking very pleased apparently. My daughters were whistling and calling whilst i was driving up and down A4. he returned to our garden fence at the top of our garden ,dropped the dear on command then we pulled him under when i returned. we then carried on calling and whistling hoping bailey was not too far behind .rupert is not quite himself, just from missing bailey really as collected them both on sameday for our daughters when they were 7 weeks so their bonding is amazing .i will call again to all mentioned . today just assumed someone else would call regarding'dog at roundabout' but nothing, i know some people in Thatcham so asked to spread the word, called petshops, vets. was actually told that sometimes the microchips cant be read which is slightly worring so i'm going to get ruperts read tommorrow as had them at the same time.we have looked in ditches and waste land near to the roundabout in thatcham.i also have tried to find out if there is any cctv on the stretch of road in question. apparently the dog was seen between 11am-12 thus 2nd june. i asked for more details , she didn't notice a parked vechicle anywhere .thanks for advice ,it really helps to recharge ready for another day hoping for some answers .thanks christina

As a thought, how did Rupert seem when you got him back? Did he seem stressed or upset? Obviously pleased to see you, but I was wondering if he came back alone thru choice or because he saw something? Is there an area that Rupert wants to avoid, or an area he wants to go back to? Have you tried letting him lead you? If only dogs could talk! Well, they can - its just our ignorance at deciphering it. See what you think about that? Watch for subtle signs from Rupert. x

You need to rule out as much as you can. Yes, it might make sense that something has happened & that is why you have not heard much, but it doesn't mean its something bad - there can be other reasons too. You need to keep trying & keep pestering the Highways, the police, & go in the train stations, in the Vets, visit the dog wardens - keep making them double, triple check. Network Rail does not always know if a dog is on the line as sometimes drivers do not see them. You need to keep on at them. Make them walk the tracks for you! It needs to be ruled out. If the person who was seen looking at a dog on the road has taken that dog, as is said below, he could have taken her to care for her. Some people assume a lost dog is a stray and needs a home! I've seen it happen before. And, even if this lady is genuine, you need to be sure it was actually a dog she saw, as witnesses can at times, be unintentionally, unreliable. If people know a dog is missing, they can imagine what they are seeing is a dog when it could be a rolled up blanket, for example. However, if you are certain she saw a dog, then that's something you need to keep pestering the authorities about. Having said all that, she is probably hiding out somewhere or someone has taken her in and is looking after her. She is the sort of dog a finder may not want to part with, so we make her "too hot to handle". Keep postering and pestering. Wish I was nearer to do that with you. You are doing so well. Have you postered outwards a few miles? Sometimes they are not where we expect them to be! :-) She is a beautiful lady and obviously well loved! I hope you find her safe and well vey soon. Stay safe sweetie. With love, Kim x

the lady did sound genuine and i have called & texted a few times to keep my only source active.surely someone else saw something, its hardly a quiete rd the roundabout is the next one after the one leading to thatcham train station, near Francis bailey primary school. shame it was half term last week as i'm sure bailey would have been in the school. i will now just target that area incase someone knows the man who was with her. as she is still unaccounted for, the only positive thought is she was just stunned and injured and he is looking after her, as called local vets and no news either. the council said all related dog/deer/badger issues would be logged and nothing has been.all reiterate that she would be scanned as a routine.
LYDNSYD
Oh Christina that is awful news - are you sure this lady was credible as there are some awful people about who get kicks out of prank calls. If this lady is correct in what she says then your Placard should bring in more news. Was the roundabout the one by the Garden Centre - if it was maybe you coud ask the Garden Centre staff. The Vets might have heard something. The Council don't always scan for microchips so phone them again in a few days and you could always phone the Dog Warden for that area as she may have got news. I don't know if I'm correct but it may be the Cleansing Dept that collects deceased animals but I'm sure the Dog warden will put you in the right direction. It has been a bit of a mystery with Bailey vanishing in thin air so I guess it could all add up. Let us know how you get on.
clj
Maybe bad news.I Finally had a call but not very conclusive,a lady said a golden retriever was lying on roadside last thurs 2nd june approx mid morning ,at a roundabout just outside thatcham, with a man looking at her.the highways and west berks have had no reports or collections made.supposedly if taken anywhere her mircochip would be scanned. really confused now so we have put the placards on the roundabout hoping someone else will come forward.asked a few local people & no-one seems to be aware of a dog in the road last week.it almost seems an amazing coincidence if not bailey but maybe hence the lack of calls if no-one wanted to be the bearer of bad news if seen her poster.
LYDNSYD
You've done just about everything you can so fingers crossed someone phones in with a sighting. Is there any chance Bailey coud have been accidentally shut in a shed/garage as it's strange that there haven't been any sightings since the day she went missing. I know it goes against the grain but what about offering a REWARD for her safe return - if someone does have her it may give them a nudge. If you are insured they may help with costs if you put an ad in the papers etc. Here's hoping today is the day you get some good news. It might also be a good idea to call Network Rail again just to make sure they still have your details etc. Come on Bailey ...we're willing you to be found!!!
clj
Thanks to everyone for all the postering .we have put a few placards up in woolhampton village/Midgham where bailey was last seen hopefully in a good place in 30 mph speed limits .
confirmed my contact no's are correct with pet log etc.lets just hope someone saw her, even being put in a car.thanks christina

I've just got back from dropping off a Poster to Pampurred Pets located at Thatcham Garden Centre. I also went into O'Gormans Vets but they already had one. I've put 2 up at Savacentre. I did notice that you had been really busy with your postering but I know what you mean about people possibly not seeing them -it's such a busy road + I was on the look out for them,I thought you had done a great job as I saw lots but there can never be enough! If you go down the placard route -make them big enough for car drivers to see as on my 1st attempt I made mine a shade too small & you will need a heavy duty mallet to whack them into the ground. I made quite a few and placed them at a distance away from each other so that anyone joining the road wouldn't miss out on seeing them. Most Councils have Traveller Liason Officers - perhaps they will give you the telephone number so you can contact them directly or the Dog Warden may know where they are situated. You have done so much with calls and postering already so now it is just a case of waiting for the phone to ring. I can really sympathise with you as the not knowing is painful. If you need any more help please feel free to call me -you should have my mobile number from when I last spoke to you. Don't get downhearted as it is still early days. P.S. Have Doglost emailed you - advice/info on 'what to do when your Dog is Missing' It is a great help. It might also be a good idea to put Bailey on the National Pet Register. Regards Lydia

hi. i think the placards on the A4 where Bailey was last seen would be a good idea. Its so hard to know if the posters will be seen.I have re-visited some shops & kennels to keep up the interest. made more calls to councils . Spoke to the Police ,wouldn't or couldn't give me any info on encampments but eventually was very helpful and checked any dog related reports/incidents but also explained a loophole in the system as in the Dog Wardens can only go & collect a dog if it is already 'contained',by someone. they are not dog catchers as such, albeit it on sightings. in this case there still have been no futher reports or sightings since 09.15am Wed 1st June. Not really sure where or what I can keep doing apart from willing my mobile to ringwith news. I did walk in woods with rupert opposite Midgham village hall last thurs & friday which at the top, sides on to our back garden through a paddock which must be how rupert returned.our back garden has a 6ft fence so we pulled him under, but Bailey being clever knows the route through our neighbours garden which isn't fenced ,out the front and then to our front door which is how they escaped. thanks again for all the interest and help ,Christina

I was so hoping to see Bailey in the Reunited section when I logged on today. You have probably already done this but it might be a good idea to contact all the surrounding County Dog Wardens including the Reading Dog Warden again today just to give them a reminder that Bailey is still missing. On the Doglost site there is a Find a Vet section RH side of screen - this will help you with addresses to send posters of Bailey to them - send as many as you can including areas just outside West Berks just incase she has been taken out of the area. Have you been able to get anymore info on the encampments we spoke about? Have you been in touch with the Highway agency? If you can it might also be a good idea to take Rupert on an extended walk along the A4 so he can do some scenting trails. You could always put an ad in the Reading Chronicle/Reading Post or if you get a free newpaper put an ad in that. If you are in the Neighbourhood Watch scheme perhaps your area could be alerted to the fact that Bailey is missing. When looking for missing dogs I have in the past resorted to putting signs which I painted onto wooden placards and placed them along the main roads ....You would be amazed at the number of people who commented of seeing the signs, so they do work! I am going to Thatcham Garden Centre today so will hand in a Poster to the Pet Suppliers in the complex. I will also try to leave a misssing poster at the vets along the A4 on the way to Thatcham. I really hope today brings some good news for you....Come on BAILEY show yourself!
Nelson's Mum
I live in Upper Bucklebury and have posted the link on my FB page. I walk my dog Nelson in the area, so will keep a look out. Posters really do work as Nelson went missing on a trip to Devon a few years ago and some kind helpers got him back safe and sound.

No sightings yet!!. I will update with any new info.

I've handed in 3 posters to Valley Vets in Pangbourne & they will distribute them to their other practices in Tutts Clump and Shinfield. So relieved about the news from Network Rail.Fingers crossed, someone may have found Bailey and are holding on to her over the weekend. You've certainly been busy with postering Christina so hopefully sightings will flood in.
clj
I have spoke to network rail who have confirmed no reported accidents on reading to newbury line.more posters have been put up around dog walks in Midgham/woolhampton..dog wardens at west berks, basingstoke & deane and south oxfordshire are aware. Posters will be put up in Tadley to burghfield common, padworth ,aldermaston & Theale by my family in due course whilst i will now do routes from Midgham up to buckleberry & surrounding villages.thanks for all the interest. Christina

Will crosspost to Golden Retriever lists. Hope this lovely girl is safely home soon x

Hi clj, It could be that someone may have found her and put them in their car and driven out of the area, not everyone knows what to do with found dogs and they will either take a dog to a vets (Hand posters in to Vets) and then the microchip will get her back to you. If she has been picked up they may be looking for a Lost/Missing Poster so that is all the more reason to POSTER like mad - you can't put up too many Posters. Have you advised the Microchip Company? Don't get disheartened, once the sightings come in then it will be all go. Good Luck.
clj
I have put a poster at rowbarge pub and a few dotted around local area inc post office depot in thatcham, post office and shop in woolhampton
If bailey got to lakes & beyond she would have crossed railway line near Midgham station.we walk around the lakes reguarly. If she crossed back over A4 then the woods and fields at the back of our house go right up to buckleberry common leading to endless countryside !! I will put more posters along A4 between theale and Thatcham. really need more sightings.I'm not sure why she has not found anyone as she is very friendly and loves children. I've started to think she has been found and been 'rescued 'therefore not been scanned yet if they thought she was a stray as escaped without her collar & tags.

Shared on facebook, i hope Bailey comes home soon. I am in Woodcote area, so i will keep eyes open for her. I cant poster as have no printer. Good luck!!!

I know the area where she was last spotted. If you haven't already done so it woud be a good idea to hand in posters to the 2 pubs at Woolhampton, also there is a boarding kennel near by so make sure they get a poster plus further along the Pet supply place Spire??? I don't want to worry you but you need to think about contacting Network Rail, hopefully she hasn't gone anywhere near the rail tracks but if you can put up posters by all the stations close by. Aren't there fishing lakes near to the village hall in Woolhampton - she could be holed up there munching away at leftovers. Poster as much as you can ...you have captive audiences at traffic lights. There is also the canal near by so she could possibly have found her way there so Poster there too. I have put up posters at Sulham Woods and I can also leave posters at Valley vets in Pangbourne & Tutts Clump. Have you contacted all the relevant Dog Wardens .. don't just speak to them but send them posters and also send posters to Dog Wardens out of your area as just recently a JRT from Reading ended up in Swindon! It's also good idea to poster around large supermarkets in fact anywhere there are large amounts of people. Fingers crossed she will be back playing with Rupert very soon. If I can be of more help please let me know. It really does help if you keep posting & letting us know what you have done so far also if there have been anymore sightings, Regards Lydia

Do we know the circumstances of how Bailey went missing? Have Vets been notified? I will happily poster my area of Pangbourne and can also do the vets this way if they aren't already done. I'm just about to walk my dogs up at Sulham Woods so will put up some posters just to get the word out.
