- Oh my god, what wonderful news after such a long time away, welcome home Casper, stay safe you lovely boy!!

- Hello everyone.yes Casper has been reunited with us on Sunday 10/3/13 after 18 months! We've been away until yesterday and therefore unable to update the status. Also we have been very busy trying our best to train him and get to know each other all over again!
He did look well overall but after we took him to the vets we were told he is 5 kg underweighted and he is exactly the same size he was when we lost him at 7/8 months. He also has had no basic training at all...he was not wearing the same collar, the same colour though:)
I had a phone call from the police on monday 11/3 saying that he was in Pampisford near Sawston all that time. This was exactly where he had been picked up. The lady that had him apparently was fiven Casper by her voyfriend who bought him off somebody.
Casper is doing well so far, has been to the vets a couple of times and we have got a long way to go with the training etc...
He will definately stay on the lead this time:)
Thank you to all those who helped searching for casper in the past!

- Hello everyone. I'm afraid there are no news about Casper.
Kimmybear: thanks for your text to my partner the other week with the advice. The dog turned out to be a legitimate one. We will continue checking different websites in a hope that one day we might see Casper.
Thanks for your kind words Emma. - 2012-01-02 20:15 mrswrigs
- Still have you in mind when I'm walking my dogs. Here's hoping you find Casper in 2012.

- What happened Kate? If the dog is fairly wild it has probably ben on the run a while. If not Casper, it could be another lost one. Still thinking of you & Casper. Yes, good idea to refresh posters with new look. x

- Thanks Julia. I will certainly check this out.

- Hello bizzrely there seems to be rumour around that casper was found weeks ago!!!! The staff in the petrol garage here in Thaxted said they took the poster down as A lady told them he was found tied to a tree......maybe some totally new posters saying still missing and with a different look to them might start to get people noticing the posters again.I am still looking for you Casper, come on ,let us get you home x

- Sindy, yes please!!! This is exactly right - dogs will usually follow a triangle and one of those points will be the place they went missing from. That would so fantastic - thank you. Good luck. x

- hello all have just joined doglost and am close to haverhill. have not seen any posters for casper in my area and wonder if he could perhaps be coming back towards where he was lost.do you want some posters put out round here?
- 2011-09-02 21:56 Kimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
- Kate, there is something else to remember. If Casper got away from you, he's even more likely to get away from them! Huskies cannot help but run; its in their makeup. This is why so many get lost. They can have brilliant recall and then one day, they just can't stop instinct and off they go. This is why so many are on long leads instead of being let off. (You probably know all this, but for any non-husky people out there). Hopefully, Casper will get another urge to run and he will get picked up, scanned and home! And, I suspect Casper would have run now to get back to you if he could so maybe they have him on a lead. All is far from lost.

- Hello everyone. I don't think that we will ever give up hope. We checked few other more local leads but without any luck as the dog turned out to be a legitimate one again.
We think that Casper was simply taken by someone a long time ago. He was always so excited to see other people or in fact dogs. He always went to say hello, and he was only 7 months.
Mrswrigs: It's not just us who have worked hard. It's people like yourself, Dawny, Kimmybear, Scharrowne and many, many others who help us tremendously. I can't even describe how grateful we are for all the help we have received!
- 2011-08-24 21:22 mrswrigs
- Dont give up Kate - you have worked so hard. Have you set up a facebook page for him like Lucy has for Oscar 27306. I regularly share him there and that's how I realised that Scharrowne was a friend of a friend. Also many of my FB friends are from around Thaxted. Will check posters again when I can as the rain has been heavy this way. Come on Casper!

- Kate do not give up hope,My Balanese cat went missing a few years back,he was chipped, and collared, nearly 4months went by,I postered every part of Thaxted and christmas come and went and the snow had defrosted and thought he had died.Suddenly I got a call from workmen,he had been found skinny and filthy but luckily ok.They read my phone number from his collar and after 4months of being on the streets trying to find home we were finally reunited. Please hang on to hope x
- 2011-08-22 23:18 Kimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
- Kate, its not the only hope, but definitely a strong one. Another thought - are there any gyspies around there? He may have been caght by someone now, and so we need to figure out who might have got him if this is the case.
- 2011-08-21 19:53 Kate
- Hello everyone. Thanks for your support! We haven't had any new sightings. The only hope is Casper's microchip and that one day he will come back home.

- D & S - you are great people! It is so frustrating not being able to get Casper. I wonder if someone has taken him in now? Kate can you do another check on all the dog wardens, rescues, vets and railways, roads etc. Sometimes they forget if time has passed. Railways and roads don't always check for chips. You are all doing the right things. Kate, I am so sorry you haven't found him yet - my heart goes out to you. He will never be forgotten - he will always be on here until we find him. The thing you've got going for you is that he does have a chip. Some other dogs out there sadly don't have, so we must always bear that in mind. Many dogs are reunited by their chip eventually. Come on Casper, sweetie. x

- Hi ive been postering some of little Bardfield and on the way back from addenbrookes today I put a few up in forest/parks.It is surprising how many people I have spoken to who actually arent aware of him missing,so I guess it best to keep postering in place that we hadnt thought of and havent yet covered.I have given posters to any farmer I have seen in a tractor(they think im mad, dashing up to them waving a poster!) and any delivery drivers and bin men.I have got the petrol garage in Thaxted to put one on display at the counter.Keep at it all,and come on Casper gorgeous, let us get you back to your mummy and daddy :)

- Hello,my garden has a gate into the fields that link up to the field in weddow rd,Kate you are more than welcome to camp in my garden over night with the gate open so you can see if he wanders around here at nights? I cant ordinarily leave the gate open as have a menagerie of animals out there that I need to keep safe from Mr Fox,but if you wanted to stay up and keep watch you are more than welcome.Do you still have my number Kate? I am with the horses in Watling lane most of the day and keep looking for signs of him being around, and walk my dogs around Thaxted,Dunmow,Wimbish Gt Bardfield,lt Sampford and am on the look out the whole time.I went into saracens petrol station and spoke with staff,I do not have any posters and do not have a printer, does someone have any I could put up around as I walk as the petrol garage doesnt have one at the counter,I also spoke to workmen building on the corner of the sampford rd past Thaxted rec and have alerted them.I went into the tip at walden and spoke to staff there who said they will keep their eyes open.
- 2011-08-12 16:14 mrswrigs
- Have postered right along B1051 from Thaxted to Radwinter including Tindon End (never realised there was so much of that!). (Apparently that turns into B 1053) Didnt do roads to the right, of which there are plenty. Just the roads is a vast area. Will keep postering til you get a sighting.

- Hello yes it was definately Casper that I saw in Weddow rd.There is a kebeb van in the petrol garage carpark in Thaxted, thats open till late, has anyone spoken to him incase he could be throwing food for him? I am just so sorry that he was right under my nose that day but was unable to attempt to get him(even though it didnt click who he was till later). As ive said, now that the crops are being harvested,he will be easier to spot. Can I help put posters up for you? as I do go everywhere with the dogs.Has Rowney woods been postered as there is great food source for him there,Young pheasants have just been put out and there is always pheasant food in the blue feeders(my dogs always go to eat it)and it backs on to the barracks.Come on Casper!!!!
- 2011-08-12 09:01 Kate
- Thanks everyone. I really don't know where else we could put the posters up.
There are 2 huskies in Thaxted that we know of. - 2011-08-11 21:26 mrswrigs
- There are two red herring (locally owned) huskies - one at Watling Lane in Thaxted and another called Rex at Wimbish.
Scharrowne's sighting was very very positive as Casper - let's hope he shows himself again. Shared on FB again to include Thaxted friends.Last edited: 2011-08-12 16:10:05 by mrswrigs - 2011-08-11 21:23 mrswrigs
- He is there. It just helps to discount sightings of huskies that are not him. Will be out tomorrow - where would you like me to poster - have time from 12 - 2pm.

- Hi kate, everything Kimmybear says is right, Casper is out there, is there anywhere we could poster for you over the weekend? Come on Casper its time to come home!!!
- 2011-08-11 20:36 Kimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
- Scharrowne, I was going to post that this was disappointing news as if this other husky Rex, is often out, it sounds ike he sightings could all have been him - except for the red collar. I am SO glad you just posted that. Thank you! Kate, all is not lost. Lost dogs are on a mission - to get back home. Rex, wasn't on a mission, was he? Rex wasn't dirty was he? Rex didn't have a red collar, did he? It could well add up. I am just so sorry this is a long drawn out affair for you all. Also, as mad as it may seem, go and poster somewhere completely different, more up your way. Sometimes, you need to think outside the box as they say. Casper goes somewhere when he's not in Wimbish/Thaxted, others must see him in another place. Try closer to home. People here are looking out for you and can call you, whilst you try another area. You won't know until you poster or get word out someplace else. Good luck. Come on Casper, please come home now sweetie. x

- Hello I am the lady who last saw Casper in Weddow Rd Thaxted, early afternoon.Unfortunately I had my 3year old on her pony and seeing a loose dog made me about turn(ponies and dogs dont always mix)wasnt till later that I realised who it was.He did not look like a Husky as quite dirty(not much visable white)and was trotting out on a mission. It was only the curled over tail and red collar (that is more pinky looking than red at the mo) that made me realise. He looked to me like a stray Greek island dog if that makes sense and was a bit dishevelled(not surprised) I have looked every day everywhere I can think of around Thaxted and around.Empty stables etc, farms, and when I walk my 2 dogs I am on the lookout all the time.Might get easier to sight him now as the crops are being harvested and you can see across fields.I am looking all day and have a spare slip lead with me at all times Can I also point out that there is a young Husky in Watling lane that does sometimes escape,so maybe that sighting there could have been a red herring? That dog lives on the corner of maypole and watling lane,I know as it chased me on my horse there and the owner ran out to get it.Come on Casper...we are all rooting for you!!!!Last edited: 2011-08-11 20:27:32 by scharrowne

- We went to Elms Farm yesterday and were welcomed by the same husky (REX) that we found in Wimbish a week ago. We didn't quite talk to his owners as he was away but talked to his parents. We were told that Rex does tend to run away and have been known to be missing for hours before always returning home. Sometimes he manages to take off his harness and goes away without it.
- 2011-08-11 00:03 Kimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
- Kate, didn't the husky sighted in Thaxted have a red collar on? Did the one you found have a red collar?
- 2011-08-10 20:09 mrswrigs
- Kate - hope you can identify the husky at Elms Farm. It doesnt mean sightings werent of Casper, just means you will be able to distinguish genuine sightings and concentrate efforts. Keep up the postering - I have noticed a massive increase in the area as I have been about. Have prepared another 40 to do Friday - anywhere you would like me to concentrate otherwise I will do back roads between Thaxted, Wimbish, Radwinter, Sampford etc.
Well done for finding another dog. Karma will ensure that Casper comes back to you! - 2011-08-09 22:24 Kate
- Thanks for all your help:) Mirek found another lost dog today when looking for Casper:) A little, lovely Cocker Spanier, called Lola. Fortunately she had a tag on and her relieved owner came and picked her up from our home. She managed to escape from their garden in Steeple Bumpstead.
Regarding Casper - all we can do now is sit and wait for another sighting. We suspect that all the sightings we had in Wimbish were of the husky that we caught last week. Mirek put some more posters up in Thaxted tonight.
Emma: we are going to Wimbish tomorrow to hopefully speak to the people that live in that cottage. - 2011-08-09 21:49 dawny
- I will put some posters along the flitch way, from Braintree along to Dunmow, Gary said there is a travellers site at the Dunmow end, its worth a try!
- 2011-08-08 22:57 mrswrigs
- Will poster Thaxted outskirts tomorrow. Have been and replaced old posters in Wimbish today. Lovely feedback from the garage at Brooklands, Wimbish. Far too many earwigs in old posters! Will try and spread posters further this week to increase sightings. Thaxted sighting very positive! Come on Casper - show yourself again!!!
- 2011-08-08 13:08 Kimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
- Is it possible they have been taken down because they heard about the rescued husky and assumed it was Casper? Maybe the next batch of posters will have to have "Still Missing" and today's date written across them before they're photocopied, so they get the idea.
- 2011-08-07 23:27 Talakai
- Maybe somebody has Casper and is trying to prevent him being found by removing the posters , is there not a local radio station you could contacr , asking them to give him a mention ??
- 2011-08-07 18:30 Kate
- Hello - unfortunately we haven't managed to find/catch Casper yet. There weren't any new sightings either. On top of that someone has removed most of the posters that we put up in Thaxted last week.
We have to wait for some new sightings...

- Mrswrigs and Dawny - Sorry, I am easily confused at the moment. Working on DogLost keeps me up into the early hours sometimes so I am not functioning on all cylinders! You are both so kind helping to find Casper. And Dawny, its YOU coming from Braintree! Wow! It is in instances like this that we see there are some really lovely people out there. Thank you to both of you. Mrswrigs, that is one of the legal aspects of setting a trap - landowners permission. So glad you are helping Kate and have this information. I'll be thinking of all of you and good luck. If you have a problem out there, call us, but hopefully you will do just fine. Kate, I am upset that the husky's owner has not called you. Maybe check in with the Vet again to make sure they passed your number on. Good luck everyone! x
- 2011-08-05 08:49 Kate
- Thanks for your help everyone.
I haven't spoken to the husky owners as simply they haven't phoned - no comment on that.
Casper's sightings were at:
1) Watling Lane in Thaxted
2) Main road between Wimbish & Thaxted x 3
3) Wedow Raod & Guelph's Lane in Thaxted (the latest one from the 27/07)
We will probably place the trap in Thaxted first over the weekend so that we can guard it ourselves. If that doesn't help then we will move it on to Wimbish. We might use some help then. I will certainly let you know and keep regular updates. Thanks for all your help. - 2011-08-04 21:31 mrswrigs
- Hi mrswrigs here aka Emma. I live in Saffron Walden so am only 5 mins from Wimbish. I have four dogs and walk 3 others so can maximise walking and looking easily. I have walked twice from Lantern Cottage today. I would have no problem in going to put food down and then rechecking as it would tie in with dog walking or would only be a short journey. The people who live in Lantern Cottage work for Kevin Henry Estate Agents (Malcolm) or the guy at the clipping service K-9 is absolutely lovely. I think the land behind Lantern Cottage belongs to Wiseman family who I know and they farm from Upper Green Wimbish where the footpath leads through to.
One further thought - there is a farmers market at Debden Antiques this Saturday 10 am til lunch. Owners are also Farmers - Tetlow (son is Robert cant remember father's name)and am sure they would be happy to let you poster.
As I've said any local help I can give let me know as have many links through young farmers/ rugby club and others.
Thaxted Chelmer River area I can hopefully help with as good friends with farmer at Goddards Farm (in dip before last hill up to Thaxted). Let me know - if it's not his land then he will know who it does belong to.
I will also put a poster in the postbox of the local naturalist who used to be Thaxted policeman.
Have printed more posters and will hopefully be out tomorrow with pins and posters. I will replace previous as they are rain damaged.
Come on Casper!

- 2011-08-04 20:06 Kimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
- Kate, I don't know what you know about the trapping, but there are legal issues. You must not leave the trap unmanned in case you catch a wild animal, as they need to let out immediately. Speak to a Co-Ordinator, or Martin the trap man, as previously mentioned. Thank you and good luck.
- 2011-08-04 20:02 Kimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
- Oh, Mrswrigs! I thought you lived in Wimbish! I am so sorry! I've been volunteering you and you don't even live there! You are a very dear, sweet person - bless you. Kate, please make sure you put the trap in a place that you KNOW Casper has been seen. He will follow his own route and if the trap is not directly on that route, we can't guarantee he'll go there. If you KNOW he runs along the river, then yes, by all means. Or, if you really don't know where he runs, then anything is better than nothing, but I'd go with a definite sighting and I'm sure that was him before. But, do speak to that other husky's owner - you deserve the courtesy of a call, as it was you who rescued their pet. Good luck everyone, please Casper come home. x
- 2011-08-04 16:14 dawny
- Thank you, fingers crossed!!
- 2011-08-04 15:36 Kate
- I was hoping to speak to that husky's owners, left my phone number with the Reception, but so far they haven't phoned. I wanted to find out where they live and whether he went missing before.
We will probably set the trap up over the weekend. We haven't decided on a location yet but it will most likely be near the Chelmer River in Thaxted/Wimbish. There is a lake at the back of Graces Farm where he could potentially go too. That's between Wimbish & Thaxted. That's where that other dog came from yesterday. We will definitely keep you informed. - 2011-08-04 14:37 dawny
- Kate- Fantastic news, lets hope Casper appears soon! Let us know what the next plan of action is. Its great the little man has been claimed.
Mrswrigs:- Hello, we will help in anyway we can, just let us now, we live in Braintree but are willing to do any thing to help get casper home, i check caspers page about 10 times a day so please leave me any details.Last edited: 2011-08-04 14:38:35 by dawny - 2011-08-04 13:07 Kimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
- Kate, this is really good news as it does mean Casper was sighted begore this little one got lose. And, you have rescued another dog in the process, so it was great that you had posters up or this little one may not have been found! You did well to catch him! If you want me to help you set up the trap, give advice etc, I will be only too happy to come up there to meet you. If the food that Mrswrigs has offered is on Casper's route, then definitely go for it. Obviously it will need to be changed if not eaten in case of bacteria as we don't want to give Casper e-coli or something as well :-) If on Casper's route, this might be the ideal location for the trap as Mrswrigs is close by to assist if Casper appears. Come on Casper, we are all getting stressed out now, please come back quickly. Good luck everyone, you are a great bunch. x

- I have just phoned Mercer&Hughes Vets and the husky from yesterday has just been picked up by his owners. He was missing only one day which is great news to us:)I will try to speak to his owners to get more details but I am not sure if they are going to call me.
- 2011-08-04 06:53 Kate
- Mrswrigs & Dawny: thanks for your kind offers! I know how helpful you were/are throughout this whole process. It's really amazing how many people know about Casper missing and stop and chat to us when we go to Wimbish or Thaxted. This is thanks to your hard work too!
It's going to be crucial to find out whether anyone claims this poor baby from yesterday so that we can find out how long he has been missing. I will keep you updated. - 2011-08-03 23:47 mrswrigs
- Kate - dont give up hope. Casper is out there too - you had the positive sighting in Thaxted. Keep postering to keep up sightings. Let us know if there is anything we can do. Sightlines are getting better as harvest continues. I would be happy to put food every day in entrance past Lantern Cottage and check if that would help. Dawny - dont know who you are but we could co-ordinate if you are local.
There is a husky resident in Wimbish , but v different colouring to Casper. Grey/ sandy and also walks with another dog. Spaniel I think.
Will walk Wimbish way tomorrow - let me know where you need posters, posters, posters! - 2011-08-03 22:02 dawny
- Hi kate, i can't imagine how you must be feeling, but please don't give up hope, casper could be in the area, well done for catching the little man, i hope his owner comes forward. please let us know any news and if we can help in anyway.xLast edited: 2011-08-03 22:04:42 by dawny

- Hello. Some good/bad news. We have just returned from Wimbish/Taxted (completely soaked). We had 3 phone calls of a potential sightings this afternoon, again between Wimbish & Thaxted just outside Graces Farm. We were warned this might not be Casper though as that husky was wearing red harness rather than a collar. We jumped to the car straight away and went to the Graces Farm, were met by the owners of the farm who very kindly and wisely followed the dog in their car and were able to tell us which direction he went.
We walked for about 20 min and then suddenly this stray husky appeared from bushes! I was shocked but knew that it wasn't Casper. This poor baby was really scared but we managed to catch him (with the help of some sausages and approaching him from two different directions).
I have to say he looks a bit like Casper but has brown eyes, is about a year old. He was really scared but well behaved and trained. We took him to the vets in Saffron Walden and left him there. Unfortunately he hasn't got a microchip. We are going to put an advert in the found section with some photograph.
The bad news is that we fear it wasn't Casper sighted in Wimbish & Thaxted all that time but simply the husky we found today. We have the trap ready and we have built up hope over the past few weeks and simply it wasn't Casper that was seen. - 2011-08-01 22:25 Kimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
- Kate, it only takes one place to set the trap - don't worry. As long as it is on Casper's route, you'll get him. Sardines and garlic smelling chicken are the best smells to make noses wiggle, even from a little way off. Can you find a person in that area who can help i.e. pay them if need be, or a dog lover, to put some food down every night on Casper's route and check every day to see if its gone? Once Casper knows its a continual food supply he will keep coming back to it. You will get him. Speak to Martin. x
- 2011-08-01 17:58 Kate
- Thanks for your help Dawny. We did so many miles yesterday and still didn't manage to cover the whole area. We are back to Wimbish today and then Thaxted again.
Thanks for your kind offer to do the shifts. We need to organise/think about traps first. It's going to be really tricky to find a place where to set them though as he was sighted in so many different places. We will keep you updated on this. So far there were no new sightings of Casper. - 2011-08-01 13:36 dawny
- Hi everyone, Gary and i didnt realise how big Caspers triangle is, we went to wimbish over the weekend, its great to see so many posters around, we are going back after work today, and if you need anyone to do shifts, we are more than willing to help. Come on Casper!!!!
- 2011-08-01 13:18 Kimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
- Kate, phone the DogLost number if you don't have Auntie Katie's. I am going to get a trap this way soon, but don't have it yet. Someone else may have one, or Martin the trapper can be employed by you, if available and if possible. Or, he can offer you advice. Another Co-Ordinator will be able to discuss over the phone with you. But if I can, I will come out and help you set it up and do a bit with you. You can take the trap home with you and back again, but the longer it is there, the more chance of catching Casper you will have. You MUST not leave the trap unattended for a number of reasons, but you do need to hide. :-) You need to find a team of people who can do shifts with you. x
- 2011-08-01 09:20 Kate
- Hi Kimmybear. I think the trap is the way forward here but I don't think that we will be able to man the trap/traps 24/7, and therefore we have to think about this. Where could we get the traps from? Do I need to contact Auntie Katie directly about this?
Many thanks. Kate - 2011-07-31 13:20 Kimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
- Kate, you are most welcome. Just wish I was nearer to sit and man a trap with you. This may be what you need as Casper has been seen in the same place, although it may mean sitting there every day(and/or night) till you catch him - very hard, but it definitely will catch him. You would need to man the trap 24/7, you could sleep nearby as you'd still hear it shut, I suspect. Are you still up for camping some more? As Casper goes away for a while, it could be a long time, but maybe not! You could probably do with talking to Martin, the trap man, or hiring him even? Auntie Katie would be able to help with that more than I, but I can help you with a trap ourselves if that's the way you want to go. You are doing so well, we just need that final push. Perseverence pays off. |You are so close, it has to be soon! x

- Thank you Kimmybear! That's really amazing.
We had about 50 posters yesterday and distributed them all in Thaxted. We will be back with some more. We replaced some old ones too. The problem is that the area is massive and we always seem to be one step behind Casper:(
We have already spent quite a few nights out looking for Casper, but focused only on Wimbish as this is where he was sighted several times, always in the same place (on the main road). We also talked to most of the Farmers in that area and went door to door in rural places.
I am going to have a look at Eva & Violet's pages, then have some sleep and then back to Thaxted tomorrow.
Many thanks for all your help! - 2011-07-31 00:02 Kimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
- Did 50 miles, over 50 posters & hours looking. Have postered from Elsenham, thru Thaxted to Boyton End. Have to say, I think we need a lot more posters out there in Thaxted&Wimbish & all the way back to Haverhill via Gt Sampford,Radwinter,Hempsted,Steeple & Helions Bumpsteds. Telegraph poles in eyeline of motorists all the way as you drive back & forth. Saw coloured one on bin in high street(Thaxted) next to post office & about 4 black/white ones on telegraph poles on Newbiggin St which was brilliant but we really need to get in people's faces with these posters. I kept going with mine until I ran out of sellotape & then door dropped & car "dropped" to Boyton End until ran out of posters. Also, in Thaxted did a church, a pub, a taxi, under the door at the Post Office, dog bins, shops, a couple of farms & local police. Policeman in car will notify his team; they seemed to like Casper. As villages are surrounded by rural agriculture, they are all connected with each other so anyone in Elsenham coming into Thaxted will be aware as he is on all telegraph poles on the B1051, & back the other way. I doubt Casper will go thru the wheatfields, suspect he'll go round them or along the edge. Wheat itself is of no interest and the harvesting makes the ground too rough & prickly to walk on. He could stick to the green areas and bushes, or back lanes. Found a lake area on Folly Lane, just a mile south of Thaxted (Fisheries), also horses have water troughs in their fields. The playing field near Guelph's Lane has children's play area so that could be a food source - kids drop food & pubs smell of food. River Chelmer goes up left side of Thaxted to join River Pant at Wimbish. I've spoken to a number of people as well, including dog walkers. Let's hope we get some more sightings very soon. Its hard to say if he's still in this area as 2 days is a lot of walking time, but let's hope he's seen again soon. Mrswrigs, that's a good idea as he has to get to Wimbish from Thaxted and vice versa. Kate, take a look at Eva & Violet's pages in Reunited (both border collies), sadly Violet found the railway lines, but both dogs were on the move for months & both were actually captured at some point. This is what we need with Casper - may need a few us doing all night vigils or something. At least we know he's still out there. Good luck. x
- 2011-07-30 22:32 mrswrigs
- Come on Casper - show yourself. Will be back on the case this week after holiday. I will try and poster West Wood, Tindon End and locality for you as this is in between Wimbish and Thaxted. Check that his poster is still in Lowes (local pet food shop) and Wayletts (Post Office/ newsagents.) Will share again on FB as have lots of contacts in Thaxted.
- 2011-07-30 16:37 Kate
- We covered Thaxted yesterday and will replace posters in Wimbish tomorrow. We will focus on Thaxted at the moment, particularly on Wedow Road and Guelph's Lane as these lead on to open fields/bushes and this is where Casper was seen three days ago.

Even if you see some posters up, posting more is just fine! You are a great buch out there! Look how people love you Casper! x

- Okay, so where does Casper go when not in Wimbish & Thaxted? Could be following the route back and forth from Haverhill. Might be worth repostering from Haverhill down to Wimbish, and someone else poster Thaxted to Wimbish, someone else poster out from Wimbish to Saffron Walden way, and another poster the other way slightly towards Dunmow. That should just about cover it. Phew! Anyone? :-) Don't Huskies run?! Or just go to the area and poster anything and anywhere. You never know what posters will be the ones! Come on Team Capser! x

- Hi Kate, we are not familiar with this area, is there any place in particular you would like us to focus on?
- 2011-07-29 12:57 Kate
- Thanks everyone for your help! It's greatly appreciated.
Kimmybear: I am not sure about the exact triangle location as so far Casper was only sighted in Wimbish & Thaxted despite posters & leaflets being distributed in villages around Saffron Walden. There was also an advert in the local paper for about a month and still there were no sightings from places other than Wimbish & Thaxted. I think there must be something that keeps him in that area (maybe a river or an easier access to food).
We will be out again this weekend looking for our Casper:) Many thanks. - 2011-07-29 12:32 Kimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
- Alerts requested CB1, CB10, CB11, CB2, CB3, CB4, CB5, CB21, CB22, CM23, CM4, CM6, CM7, SG8, SG9. Radius of Saffron Walden and in Casper's circuit.

- Thank you everyone! I am wondering how big Casper's triangle is? If he is going back homewards on one route this is a big circuit, or is he going out sideways either side of Wimbish & Thaxted? Kate, looks like it was Casper sighted in Thaxted at the beginning, possibly Saffron Walden as well as Wimbish, so does this make a triangle once more? The other dog must have been there at the same time, or it was Casper all along. Think we need to get word out to surrounding areas again. I will posted Thaxted, Wimbish, Saffron Walden if I can and as far outwards as I can. Please can everyone else out who lives near to these areas help in postering and looking out for this baby. We need all the help we can get. He really needs to get home now, bless him. Some dogs do travel up to 12 miles, so a 12 mile radius of these places needs postering. Thank you if anyone can help. xLast edited: 2011-07-29 12:25:33 by Kimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders

- This is fantastic news! Kate, I will try and get out there too. Have printed off a load of posters. Remember the scenting instructions etc. Check the triangle - or the half of it and try and predict the next location and poster that in advance of Casper arriving. Hopefully you will have him before then. Remember he is a bit wild now, so gently does it. Good luck and great news! Come on Caspy! x

- Hello everyone. There was another sighting of Casper yesterday in Thaxted after nearly two weeks of silence. He was spotted in Wedow Road, going into Guleph's Lane still wearing his red collar but looking a bit poorly :(
We are going to replace his posters at the weekend. - 2011-07-22 00:00 Kimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders

- 2011-07-09 23:34 Kate
- Hello. Yes, we did put an advert in the local papers about 3-4 weeks ago, and again last week. That generated the initial calls from people that had seen Casper in Wimbish. I guess all we can do now is wait.
I am going to have a look at Suki's page... - 2011-07-09 22:07 Kimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
- Kate, have a look on Suki's page 30057. Now reunited in the blue. Husky's Dad 30786 and Suki's Dad have a facebook thingy going. It may help you and you'll have a "husky support network". Possible someone has picked up Casper by now as well, so this will be another angle in getting Casper home. Good luck, keep going and we are all praying that Casper is safe and you will get him home, soon. x
- 2011-07-09 20:45 Kimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
- Kate, you have half a triangle. Where he was lost from and Wimbish - trying guessing the other bit. Also, have you contacted the Dog Wardens in Saffron Walden? It was probably Casper that was sighted in this area, as we have had dogs do quite big circuits, greyhounds have done 8 miles on one part of a triangle. Do you think you could contact the local papers and sweet talk them into putting something in there for you? Or, an advert? The more poeple that know, the better. The grass cutting may have put him off that area for a bit so he could be back on his triangle, whatever that may be. Kate you deserve to find your boy, you are trying so hard. At least he is chipped, so he stands more chance of getting back to you. Keep trying back at where he was lost too. Also, please contact Network Rail to see if there have been any reports of a husky around, either Wimbish Way or back home, or anywhere in between. They don't always report dogs, but they should, but worth checking. Also, maybe re contact the councils or Highways Agencies, who check the roads, just in case they've seen anything. And recheck the Vets. I know its so hard, but do the best you can. Wish I could get him home for you. x
- 2011-07-09 17:59 Kate
- Hello. Thanks for all your suggestions. I am afraid there were no new sightings of Casper. We came back to Thaxted during the week and walked on the fields to Wimbish but so far had no luck.
Kimmybear: the sightings in Thaxted turned out to be of a legitimate dog and that means that we haven't got a triangle anymore. - 2011-07-06 21:58 Kimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
- Thank you for that and yes good idea! Perhaps he is travelling with the deer. Dogs have to revert back to their wild instincts to survive until back home, so it is possible. Good that you now have clearer views. Thank you for this.

- Have been to Rowney Wood today, no sightings but there has been grass cutting work going on in the wood which does give some better sight lines - we saw several muntjac.
There is an open afternoon at Carver Barracks this Saturday - car boot from 10am and open day 12 - 5pm. I cant go as will be in Wembley seeing Take That. Surely it would be worth distributing or displaying posters at the event.

- Have walked twice in Wimbish today with different dogs. Added more posters to make sure sightings are maximised.
Tonight I met Kate - completely randomly. She is keeping an eye out on the road with a mirror view to Rowney Wood and Mirek was walking the fields towards Wimbish Hall.
Come on Casper - your owners are putting so much effort in - please show yourself to them! They are staying up all night to try and see you. - 2011-07-01 11:48 Kimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders

- Thank you for all your support, especially to Emma (mrswrigs) who spared 2 hours of her precious time and joined my partner to search for Casper yesterday (with her two lovely dogs). Mirek (my partner) went to Wimbish at 3am this morning and I'm going to join him later today. So far there were no new sightings of Casper.
Yes, I think that sightings in Thaxted were of a legitimate dog.

- Will add as many posters as possible tomorrow in Wimbish area. Am thinking that Watling Lane sightings are of legitimate dog there?. Will have a think about other end of paths/ bridleways in order to poster. Good to have such sightings and good to meet with Casper's Daddy today even though I dont know his name! Will keep helping to search. Show yourself again Casper!
- 2011-06-30 18:11 Auntie Katie
- Good Luck Kate! I hope he is home with you soon. I'm not sure what type of lead you use for Casper but we've found in the past that using a slip lead works better than a clip lead if they are keeping their distance. You can turn a normal lead in to a slip lead by putting a loop through the handle (I hope that makes sense!) it also means they are secure if there is no collar to clip to. As Kimmybear said, stay calm and let him come to you, throw something nice and smelly so he knows its OK. Don't be suprised if he doesn't come straight to you he may feel that he's been naughty so will keep his distance. Just call him quietly so he knows you are there and then sit/crouch low to the ground - he will be much more inclined to come over. If you are with other people when you spot him ask them to just move quietly away from the area so its just you and him. xx
- 2011-06-30 17:28 Kimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
- Okay, well at least you can scent and keep him in the area and remember distance is no object to Casper. Wherever you wait, you could see him whizz by! :-)
- 2011-06-30 13:52 Kate
- Thanks for your advice Kimmybear. We will do all we can to try to catch Casper. Unfortunately there are lots and lots of possible places in Wimbish where he could sleep overnight. The food that we left for him has not been eaten so far.
The dog that was seen in Thaxted belongs to someone. His family lives at the bottom of Watling Lane in Thaxted, he is quite young, similar age to Casper. - 2011-06-30 13:33 Kimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
- Oh, Kate - the dog in Thaxted, it couldn't be one of our other missing ones could it?
- 2011-06-30 13:29 Kimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
- Oh, I am really EXCITED now!!!! Thank you Auntie K. :-) Kate, make sure you always leave the food in the same place at the same time every day, maybe early morning or late evening when it is cool and leave it in a safe and shady area slightly away from the busy bits. Leave some water there too in a sturdy bowl or container. Can you hide and watch early morning and late evening? What are the times of his sightings? Try then too. Or all day, every day and night! Have you got anyone who can do shifts with you and your partner? Have a hunt around for Casper's bed area - maybe a nice place that's hidden and safe, possibly straw, long grass smashed down, a little hut or outhouse, shed, box, anything that a dog could make cosy. If you have suspicions that you have found the place, leave the food there. And scent all around that area to keep him there. I have to say it again; POSTER really heavily around here so as Casper is in the public's face!! (Remember to remove them all when you get him though! But so worth it!). Now if you see Casp and he doesn't immediately recognise you, don't panic. Go gently, VERY gently. And if you are unable to capture him, we can help further so that you can. Use food, have your lead and don't panic. :-) You can have a break down afterwards! Casper you are nearly home my sweetie! Go Kate! x

- Hello everyone:) There was another sighting this morning at 6am in Wimbish! Casper was running on the main road again, crossing the road from the Carver Barracks. My partner is going to stay there all day in case he comes back as we suspect he might have a base in Wimbish since there were so many sightings there. We left some food "for him" yesterday and some other bits. We are so close now. We are going to focus on searching in Wimbish for the time being. Many thanks for your help. You are really great!

- Will walk this way again tomorrow lunchtime - is there any where in Thaxted and locale you would like me to poster? Or if you are not sure I will poster thicker if that makes sense It is a maze of footpaths/ bridleways at the back end of Watling Lane let alone anywhere else plus thick crops. You are getting good sightings - Come on Casper!

- Some great news again. My partner had another phone call today from a lady that saw Casper playing with a young boy yesterday and when asked if that was his dog he replied that it wasn't. We are going to check this out later. There should be another advert in the local newspapers later on this week. Thanks for all your support!

- Went out for an hour today at back of Watling Lane from Goddards Farm (Main road on way into Thaxted) and also a loop up to the back of Cutlers Green. There was no sign of him, but would mention that there are chickens and sheep at very bottom property of Watling Lane (Halsemere?) and also at Yardley Hall/ Woodhams's Farm. I believe these last two properties are owned by the local Plymouth Brethren who have a large presence in Thaxted and environs. Do ask permission before you camp on their land. If you need some help with local personnel let me know. I have lived many years in the area, and have ridden walked loads of it. I also have many links in Thaxted through young farmers from years ago.
I would make sure they know about Casper. As there is so much acreage to cover and at the moment with crops so high and tree and hedge foliage at a maximum you need as many pairs of eyes as possible in order to see him. The fact that he has been spotted is very positive.

- There are a few huskies on the lose at the moment, but if you need to check for your own peace of mind, phone Dogs Trust. They have a branch at Snetterton - get their phone number from their website or call HQ. They would be able to tell you of the rescues in Norfolk. If it is their home, they will scan, no doubt about it! Casper is probably still in Thaxted as you have had a few sightings this way. AND, you have a definite triangle! But, I would check for your peace of mind. x

- Hi Kate, i've been on holiday and was just checking to see if casper is home, its great to hear that hes been sighted, fingers crossed he will soon be home.
- 2011-06-27 17:17 Kate
- I very much doubt it was Casper as I am sure they would have scanned him. It's great that people are helping and on the case though:)
Thank you for all your help!
We might actually take a tent and stay near the Chelmer River at the weekend hoping to see Casper at some point.

- Out of the blue I have had a lady with two dogs knock on my door to say that she has a friend who is a dogwalker in Norfolk. The friend told her that a husky had been handed into a dogs home that is situated on the road into Norwich. She was frustratingly unable to give me any more details. Hard to check and sounds like a long shot.
I have been walking round Wimbish area and Rowney Woods as much as possible. Watling Lane runs along part of the River Chelmer which always has water so that maybe why he is staying there.
I can do a walk round there tomorrow early afternoon, not great timing but anything to help. I will also try and get a few more posters up in the vicinity and from other ends of walks.

- Dogs can be very elusive at times - he could have gone a bit noctural especially in this heat plus there are less things around at night to avoid and more things to eat. Try early morning 5.00am, or when the sun comes up - they often come out and start sniffing around at that time. Okay 12 miles, I will bear that in mind and see if I can think of anything. He seems to like Thaxted so might be worth scenting that area if safe, to keep him there for more sightings. Right where he was seen. Leave some food, water bowl etc. Good luck - you are doing VERY well! Sounds like he is one step ahead of you all the time though not for long, hope. Remember he may not recognise you immediatley even if you call him, he may be a bit wary as dogs that have been out on their own for a while, often revert to natural instincts to keep alive and safe, so he could avoid you; not meaning to, but as he isn't sure at the moment whether it is safe and because survival comes first. Nothing to worry about, but just remember he may not respond to your call immediately. Once you get a few sightings in the same place, we can move on to another plan of action. Let us know if this is the case and if you haven't already got him by then! :-) We have ways to catch doggies! :-)

- Just had a phone call that Casper or a husky was seen in Thaxted (Watling Lane again!)on Wednesday. My partner is going there right now to check.
- 2011-06-27 08:27 Kate
- Thanks Kim! I think he has done about 12 miles. I think in case of Casper he might be anywhere. We went to every single wood/park in the triangle to search for him but there was no sign of him.

- Didn't see Casper although there are a lot of fields with clear view around but it was so hot I doubt he was out in this heat. Will keep looking around. How many miles has he done outwards from home before the triangle comes back, that you know of? Just out of curiosity. Can you plot where he may be next? Come on Casper, home sweetie. x

- Have postered from far end of Debden thru Debden Green, Cutlers Green, Watling Lane, Copthall Lane and as many as possible footwalk signs thru that return to Watling Lane and including Wimbish Upper Green, Peppels Lane and Parsonage Lane. C'mon Casper show yourself!

- I can spare a couple of hours this evening so shall drive mine up to Wimbish and walk them there around 6. I have more posters to put up too, is there an area that you would prefer that hasn't been covered?
- 2011-06-23 22:51 Kimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
- Kate, don't let the mileage put you off - it's peanuts to Casper! One person sitting anywhere on that line, could see him whizz past and he'll be at the next person in a few minutes miles away! Well, almost. You know he's out there, and you have given us lots of places to watch. Thank you to everyone who is trying to help. You are wonderful. x
Kate, keep in touch with the Dog Wardens, Vets and Rescues in all these areas. They will understand when you say he's a husky. x - 2011-06-23 22:42 Kate
- Thanks Emma.We really don't know where he could be at the moment as there were no more sightings since Saturday. We keep searching for him every day in Thaxted & Wimbish. He was seen on Watling Lane in Thaxted. Thank you for your help.
- 2011-06-23 21:21 mrswrigs
- I walk Wimbish and Howlett End regularly. Do you think he is more on Sampford side rather than Carver Barracks. If you let me know where seen in Thaxted I can do some more accurate postering. Have plenty of FB friends who live in this area so will keep sharing with updates. Come on Casper - show yourself again and come home.
- 2011-06-23 10:59 Kate
- Thanks Kim. Unfortunately the triangle covers quite a large area: Sturmer, Steeple Bumpstead, Helions Bumpstead, Wimbish, Howlett End, Thaxted, Little & Great Sampford, Hempstead, possibly Cornish Hall End & Birdbroook. There are acres of fields to cover. We will continue to search for him but would be grateful if you could look out for him too. Many thanks.

- Brilliant news from owner - we have a triangle! Any helpers out there who could help owner monitor the route that Casper is taking? Maybe stake out along the route, leave food etc? Please contact owner to liaise if any one can help. We need to poster more of Casper's route to get more sightings. Thank you. Come on Casper, let's get you home baby!
- 2011-06-21 09:46 Kate

- It is possible he will come back, as they usually do - just in the case of Casper - could be a while! Have you scented around your home and/or where he was lost from? Just in case you don't know what I'm talking about - I am e-mailing you some advice sheets as it doesn't appear that you have received these previously, so just in case. Pls let me know when you received. Thanks.

- Hi. We had some info about Casper today. Three people phoned to say that Casper was seen in Wimbish near Saffron Walden at 10 am this morning. They have seen Casper's advert in local paper and called us. Unfortunately that was about 5pm, 7 hours after Casper was seen. Apparently it was Casper 100%! I am so pleased as it means he is alive. He was running on the main road! and did not want to be caught. He could be anywhere now. We went to look for him, but without any luck yet.PLEASE LOOK OUT FOR HIM!

- Hi. Yes, I have been checking too. I can't quite imagine what sort of person would buy a dog without papers, with a possible microchip etc. Some people just don't have a heart!

- I noticed on some of the other missing dog pages of this site that people have been checking 'for sale' ads in the hopes of finding stolen pets....so I did too (in the hopes of matching some that are missing on doglost...I spent ages doing it!). I am truly shocked at the prices that are charged for dogs and puppies, even older dogs that are no longer wanted have a price...little wonder so many are stolen. Check out http://www.preloved.co.uk/ The world's gone mad! K

- Hi again Kate (and everyone)I've just done some background reading on the breed and I have a better understanding of how/why these dogs run....widening the appeal looks to be a necessity? Have you contacted the Siberian Husky Club of Great Britain? http://www.siberianhuskyclub.com/ I'm sure they'd put out an appeal. And how about all your local taxi firms?, they are out on the road and someone may have remembered seeing him. KxLast edited: 2011-06-06 09:47:08 by Abe babe
