So, so glad your amazing efforts paid off. Hope you have many happy years together. I've had GSPs for over 25 years and they are just sooooo special (but we do have to have high secure fences!) ;-) x

What fantastic news and such dedication!! I hope Piper settles in quickly with you. On my website I sell bells. They are dead easy to attach to a collar (they come with a hook) and are great for knowing where your dog is if it goes out of site. Hopefully she will never run off again but they are a great 'Track your dog down' tool. www.dogtopia.co.uk
Snoopy
So pleased to see Piper is back safe and well. Well done all of you. Just a thought but have you considered a tracking collar? We recently invested in them for our pointers as our recent rescue has very high prey drive and will go at the slightest opportunity, although walked on lead and in a harness he has escaped us a couple of times so now to be on the safe side he has a tracking collar - see side adverts on this site for the info.
June
Thank you all for your support throughout the last week. We couldn't have done it without you all giving us the hope to carry on. Everything today looks totally different now she is back with us. There was a certain amount of howling last night at bedtime but after about 5 minutes she stopped. Her appetite is good and my Husband rang earlier and said that she had settled on my bed and was fast asleep. I will be getting one of those special harness's as soon as she will let me get a tape measure round her but have no outings planned just yet. It will be great getting to know her and gaining her trust. I look forward to the day that I see her wag her tail. Will get a photo done today. Thank you all again there are some special people out there.

Hooray hooray!! I've been quitely watching this one (being a GSP owner myself) willing her to give herself up. Well done owners, what a fantastic, patient job. She will love you for it. Lots of cuddles all round I think.

We have her, I am so so happy she is safe. What a rollercoaster these owners have been through. They have not left where she was the last 36 hours or so, through day and night and I take my hat off to them. Yesterday afternoon they were laying on the floor with her and slept there in the open all night. She couldnt resist the yummy food in the trap tonight. Will let those great owners update tomorrow. Reunited photo will follow after these owners have had a nights sleep. Welcome back Piper.

*** Oops - seems I was posting the same time as Spindle ***

I spoke to June a short while ago and all had a quiet night sleeping out in the park ......

Piper is still with them, but the ideal opportunity to actually try and get a slip lead on her without spooking her hasn't as yet presented itself.

June has gone home for supplies, and is then going to call the vet to see if he can suggest a suitable sedative just to take the edge of her even more. Whilst we are aware that sedatives can sometimes give the opposite effect where a dog is already highly stressed, we hope that as Piper is relatively calm and chilled - just wary, it might make all the difference.

So fingers-crossed .....

Morning update. Owner has been there all night on the floor with her. Any move towards her and she runs. Will try another method today and later on,. PLEASE DO NOT GO TO THE AREA, I will update as I hear on here. The last thing we want her to do is run now. Amazing dedication from these new owners.

everything crossed here as well. Come on Piper - you can do it!

Just heard from Spindle that she is lying on ground near her new dad's feet. Everything crossed to get this girl home tonight.

everything crossed here - hoping that she will give herself up

Husband is laying on the ground and she is barking at him and taking the treats he is flicking!
BonBon
Excited! Just had text from June to say she has shown herself and husband is there now flicking treats. Come on Piper - give yourself up. There is a lovely home waiting for you.

Just returned home having spent over 2 hours wandering and driving around the area. Extremely busy with people, dogs, cars plus additional traffic etc. for the polo match. Managed to hand out a number of posters. Also spoke with visitor centre staff who have asked that posters are NOT put on any trees. They have kindly repositioned those and put them on dog waste bins. Mentioned this morning's sighting and they will keep a watchful eye. Think it is unlikely Piper will show herself at the moment but wait until it is quieter and cooler. Will try to speak with June again later. Also put poster through letter box of Virginia Water Vets in Stroud Road.Last edited: 2011-07-24 14:15:16 by BonBon

Sighting of Piper at 8a.m this morning near wick road car park. Owner there now, please do not chase just 07743 442301 immediately.

Announcement just made on Time 1066. They asked for any sightings to be phoned in to them and they will notify June. Thank you Time 1066. Just read June & Spindle's postings below. What a shame if she has moved away. Carole

Just had confirmation that the sightin at 5 .am. thursday was definately her, the person who saw has now seen herposter and confirming. Going to get whole area saturated with posters.
BonBon
Posters received. Thanks Spindle. Have also now spoken with June. Have also emailed poster to Time 106.6 saying how much it would be appreciated if they could regularly broadcast details. Stay safe Piper and help us find you. Carole
June
My Husband has just re contacted the person that thought he had seen her. Originally we were told she was seen on Thursday morning at 5 am. Later on we got the mans phone number and he said it was Wednesday at 5. My Husband has just rung again to check which garage he thought it was and he said it was definately Thursday at 5 am. In between the Total garage and the sign post for Savile Gardens on the left hand side along the A30 going towards the Traffic Lights at the junction to Engelfield Green. This is the worst possible news as now it looks as if she isn't in the park.

I tried Star radio but could not get an answer. Rang Radio Jackie who said they would love to put it out on air but if they did one they would be inundated. He did though suggest Time 106.6. I contacted them and they agreed to put the details out on air. They cover the Windsor area. I have not yet been able to find the station (I could be out of range). A friend is going to take some posters round to the Blacknest side this afternoon. I think that is all entrances covered.
Spindle
thanks for update June. You are doing great, we need a call for another sighting on this dog. Owner trying local radio station now for help.
June
We put the trap up just before dark but it was empty this morning and the food was still there. After that we went up into the Valley gardens as there is a small shelter there. I drove round and put posters up at the corner entrance on the A30 and further down at Cheesemans gate. It will be busy this weekend as a big polo match is on tomorrow. Then went round to Saville gardens and put a poster up there and had a walk round. It was early so no one to ask if they had seen her. Have just had a message from someone walking their dog that they haven't seen her this morning. It is now 8.30 am. I am going back in a while to give out flyers.
Spindle
BonBon - will e mail you them in a moment. Presume you want the small flyers?
BonBon
Spindle - please can you email me the small posters. Can't promise, but will try to get over there tomorrow although am hoping Piper will be found sae and well tonight. Carole
Spindle
Lots of hard work being done to find Piper. Owner is situ in the hope that Piper will go into trap. Lots of posters up and printed as well as small flyers done now too for handing out. Hopefully she is laying low and hiding in the same area as last see as no more calls to date.
buffysmum
This must be so frustrating for you - so close but so far. I suppose perseverance is the name of the game. Hope you get a good reult very soon. Its not for the want of trying. Stay safe Piper. x
Spindle
June, have e mailed you. Owner doing everything possible, anyone available to poster please do all around this area.
June
Sadly Piper did not go to the crate. We dismantled the crate in the early hours, had a quick doze at home and was back in at 5 am with my two dogs searching the area. Bowler the gsp showed a lot of interest in the site where Sarah and Lizzie had been sitting last night. The food that we had left had not been touched. I am going again tonight but will stay till dawn and then do a search further afield. Am going to Saville Gardens this afternoon to jog their memory and give posters which I have now been able to print using a different computer. I thank you all for your support.
GSP Rescue (SW)
Oh .... and if anyone in the local area can print out any posters and give them to local businesses or whatever, that would be welcomed, as the owner had not managed to print out the acutal DogLost poster, so was using a picture and blub she had manually created, which whilst having the information, does not have the visual impact of the actual DL poster ....

Thank you

Sadly still no joy (unless something has happened overnight).

N.B. For local people, we are talking about the Car Park next to the Wheatsheaf Pub on the A30 which gives access to Virginia Water Lakes - Piper was lost towards Egham having exiting the car park from the North End through the pedestrian gate there, and it is at that end of the car park that she has been seen.

I left home at 4.00 am to make the 3.5 - 4 hour journey down with my young bitch Lizzie to see if she would come to me. That journey took nearer 5 hours, so I didn't get there until nearer 9,00 am.

Anyway, the day was spent walking the area with my young bitch, calling her, and asking everyone we saw. Meanwhile her owners re-visited several local businesses, vets, dog homes etc. too. That unfortunately showed that half of those places didn't seem to know she was missing, despite being told on the Monday, so new details left etc). Most frustratingly, when we talked to one of the park wardens midday, he said that he had not been told about her, even though it was reported to the Estate office along with pictures etc. :err:

At 9.30 the dog warden called to say that she had found a message on her answer phone to say that a dog that *might* have been Piper (i.e. a brown and white 'spaniel-type' dog) had been seen on the garage forecourt of the petrol station just over the road from the car park i.e outside the park at 5.00 am, and the dog had then headed in a scared manner up the main A30 ........ Whilst any sighting is of interest, it then raised concerns that she was out of the park and on a busy toad .....

The husband then spent some time trying to contact the person who'd made the report (which needed the DW to check call logs as no contact number left in the message); as well as talking to the petrol station staff (the person who had been 'on' at 5.00 am had finished at 7.00 am), as well as trying to get access to the CCTV for the garage for the appropriate time. The CCTV footing for the period was finally seen , but no sign of any dog on it. Finally the reporter was contacting at about 17.00, and it turned out that they had left the message on Wednesday morning - not Thursday, and Piper had been seen back in the park on Wednesday evening ......

So whilst it may or may not have been her, it was known that she had got back into the park by Wednesday night.

So no sightings made at all yesterday. I stayed around until just after 8.00 pm (she had been seen between 6.30 and 7.30 pm on the previous 2 nights), but I then had to get home as my other dogs were home alone :-(

But courtesy of help of from this forum, they did manage to borrow a trap which was set up yesterday evening to see if they could catch her. (That too very difficult, as the place she had been seen and where the trap was to used is by the main car park, so lots of dog walkers etc. coming and going, so the trap had to be monitored very closely for the first few hours to ensure no other innocent dog got lured to the trap and it's very smelly / tempting bait. :o ) I also left her bedding with them for the trap so that they have something with her 'smell' on it (and during the day, Lizzie did do quite a lot of wees in and around the area, so that may help?

I finally got home just before midnight, feeling very saddened that Piper had not been seen and so I had no chance to help in getting her back.

The only positive is that where she is believed to be is an area of the park with plenty of cover and water (the lake), and so fr

Try & hand a poster to the people in the refreshment units - some people may mention seeing the dog but not know or have the telephone number to hand. Will give one out to the unit near Saville Gardens this morning, also contact park Warden - fingers crossed x

Keep those posters going up, and as has been said maybe add a bit about not approaching her. You can do this! Come on Piper, your real family is waiting. x
Spindle
Sighting near garage turned out to be yesterday, so we are praying she is back in the park seen in last night. Will update once I hear more.
Sheila
Daft question, but have you A) put notices down at the Saville Gardens car park and Bishops Gate, and also put up notices asking people not to approach her? Really wish you all the greatest luck in capturing her safely.

Come on Piper time to come home. Stay safe. x

Possible sighting of Piper at 5 a.m. this morning by garange on A30 near Wheatsheaf Pub. Dog was heading toward the American School. Please watch out do not chase, just phone please!!!!! People there now with lady she knows and her dog.

In constant contact with owner, everything crossed for today. Given advice.

I was sitting in my van in the car park this evening at Virginia Water about 7.30. About 100 yards away inside the park I saw Piper. She was on a slight mound of earth. I slowly got out of the van and put my hand out. She look and then turned round and ran. I walked around the area until nearly dark. Put some food down and bits of the cover that she travelled home in, for scent purposes. I am hopeful of a positive result tomorrow when Sarah and Lizzie come down.
DogLostOwl
Piper was seen in the same area this evening but would not come to her people because there were still a number of folk around the park and she was afraid. GSP Rescue SW is going there tomorrow with her young bitch who Piper likes to play with. Good luck Sarah and young Lizzy!
Spindle
Spoke to owner and given advice on this dog. All authorities informed, once feed routine established will try to get them a trap. Good luck. Please if you see this dog DO NOT CHASE, just phone owner.
June
We have been over this morning, some of the food had gone. Not sure if wild life would have taken it. No sign of Piper. There are pictures at the two car parks near to where she went missing. My Husband will go over midday. Thank you all for your help, I cant tell you how grateful we are.
Spindle
GSP Rescue, sounds like a trap there sooner rather than later may help here. Have texted number on Pipers page that is a mobile to offer help. IF ANYONE SEES HER PLEASE DO NOT TRY AND CATCH THIS DOG PLEASE JUST PHONE.Last edited: 2011-07-20 08:15:10 by Spindle

If she stays in the area, she is half way to getting back home. Please everyone keep looking for her. Just go gently and do not approach; just watch and report sightings. But please keep helping. I have just spoken to Piper's owners and they have seen her again earlier today. They believe she has made herself a den in some dense bushes under a fallen tree quite close to where she went missing. They are going back there now to leave some food for her and will monitor the area leaving food. Her owner asks that no one tries to catch her, as she was seen earlier in the open, but spooked by a well-meaning passer-by who tried to catch her.

So please just report any sightings, but leave her alone.

Thank you

will contact and advise.

Piper was with me as a foster dog. She is not a pure-bred GSP, but has GSP colouring. I suspect she has a bit of Labrador in her as she has a longer coat than a GSP, although still 'smooth-coated'.

She is very nervous in general, and is also head/hand shy. If cornered, she can be handled safely as she is in no way aggressive, and will just lie down to try and avoid you. She isn't too good about walking on a lead either, so a secure slip-lead would be needed, or she could safely be picked up.

Probably best if no one tries to approach her directly, but reports her to her owners. Alternatively, if she could be lured / driven into a building, as she in fact feels safer 'hiding' inside than out given the chance.

So can anyone in the area with properties watch out for her please as she could well be hiding in your out-buildings ........

Thank you.
Sheila
Have just posted this to my "Rhodesian Ridgeback Uk Lost & Found" Facebook page, and have also printed off the poster ready to take to my dog training school this evening to hand round. I really hope Piper is quickly re-united with her new owners - good luck.
