Hello everyone my name is Jean and I am the lady who found Dusty in Manchester, I rang animals in dissress in Irlm has this is where I got my own dog from seven years ago and her name is Jessy, and while dusty stayed in my garden waiting to be picked up they had a good play together. I was really happy when when the man from AID put the chip machine over her and it went beeb and in within five minuites we knew her name and that she had come from london, but we did not know she was stolen till alittle later and wondered how she had got to manchester. Finding Dusty made me feel I had done a good deed and helped someone who must have been really upset about dusty been taken. Glad to read on this site that she is back safe and sound, just sorry that I never met the people when they came to manchester last night to pick dusty up. Also up until me finding Dusty and talking to Aid I did not know anything about the doglaost site.
lesleyjane
Yeh!!!!! Maybe she thought she was a Manchester Terrier???!!!Sorry to hear about the police, it's time they took dog theft seriously, it seems to be on the increase. Give Dusty a big hug from me, keep safe little one! Hope she's ok after her adventure. x

Yes we picked up Dusty in Manchester, after we recieved a call from someone who had found her. She not home yet but owners making arrangments to come and collect her.
lesleyjane
Manchester?????Wow, sooooo pleased that Dusty is back home, Steve, I've been checking every day! I really agree that the police should do something about the crime that was so obviously committed, please keep the site updated of any developments. Was Dusty found straying in Manchester??
DogLostKimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
I am SOOOO pleased and very relieved that Dusty is back with his owners. This is an instance when a chip was well worth its weight in gold a million times over! If Dusty was seen with this man on CCTV that proves he took him. Unless he's come up with another reason as to why he had him on CCTV, the police should act. It would be wrong not to. Steve, hang on until you speak with Dee - if anyone can help, she can. Meantime, just enjoy your Dusty! Welcome home sweetie! Big kiss X.

Well it looks like a amazing week for Animals in Distress, Irlam, Manchester, after returning a Bull terrier to its owners last week thanks to this fantastic site, we have found this dog in Manchester today and spoke to its owners who are ecstatic about finding her safe and sound, the wonders of microchipping. How she ended up in Manchester is beyond me but should be home very soon.
lesleyjane
I really hope something can be done to help, Dee.

Steve can you email me all the detail you have on the guy? we have a few police contacts and you never know they might show interest. email denise.ford@blueyonder.co.uk
lesleyjane
OMG, how dreadful for you. Why are the police being so unhelpful when there is proof of a crime? Have you had any advice from doglost as to what you can do? If not I recommend trying asking (by e-mail to admin??) as they may well have experience of similar situations. Dusty is chipped at least so please make ALL local vets know about this awful situation, make sure her picture is given to them including PDSA. Good luck, wish I could help more.
steve gibson
hi all found out persons address in hendon who took dusty, have been round to see if she was there and spoke to the guy myself he says he knows nothing about it and that it wasn't him even tho i have him on cctv
not sure what else to do as if i use violence i will be the one on the wrong side of the law. finding it very hard not to that, the police domt want to no and to be honest im not sure what they can do.
lesleyjane
Any update on Dusty?? I keep checking in the hope she's back home....
lesleyjane
Just remembered there is a PDSA in Hendon, have you postered there?
lesleyjane
Thanks for update, so strange there have ben no leads on Dusty, don't give up, she is out there locally somewhere for sure. You are doing really well, hope the release of the cctv coverage will bring some positive news about the thief's id.
steve gibson
Hi all thanks again had an article in the hendon times on line paper other than that still no sightings. Will look into homeless shelters and put some posters up in and around there. Will try to get a copy of cctv tomorrow.
MissFitz
If it's thought the thief was sleeping rough, beggers do tend to get more money from the public if they have a dog -
Worth doing some research into homeless shelters and putting posters around them.
I'm out and about in West Hendon/Mill Hill and will keep my eyes open.
lesleyjane
Any more news? Has cctv been released? Has local press been contacted?
DogLostKimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
Absolutely! So many dogs have been stolen and are now safely back at home with their owners, just as Dusty will be! Good owners and DogLost are a formidable foe for any thief. Steve, your mission now is to poster every bus stop, park bench, pet shop, vets, doctors, dentists, schools (kids love to help), shop windows, shopping centres, notice boards, car windows, lamp posts, post boxes, trees, house windows, colleges, parks, anywhere dogs walkers go, give to bus drivers, taxi drivers, postmen are important, police (isn't there a police training centre at Hendon?). Tell the local newspapers - they may do an article on you and Dusty this will get her face seen by a few thousand people. Someone has already seen her, you just need to make them remember and some are yet to see her, you just need to make them aware before they do. You want hundreds of posters up, not odd ones here and there, but really heavily in the area she was taken and outwards a few miles even. Put those posters inside and around this medical centre, hand out to nurses with the description of the thief. You really need to try and speak to all the staff that come and go - someone must know who this is! Work on the police to release that footage. Dusty is out there - go get her! We are all with you. x
lesleyjane
Steve, you will get her back, as Kimmybear says, POSTER everywhere ( you probably have done, but worth repeating).......this thief is surely local to area and someone must recognise him. Thinking of you, you are doing all the right things. Hope cctv is released soon to help things too.
DogLostSherlock Bones Police Liaison Co-ordinator
steve if your officer in charge at the met won't release the footage to you, ask the media dept at the police to release it to us for a media campaign...
steve gibson
Hi everyone thanks for all your help so far, im still trying to get a copy of cctv footage but I have seen the footage for my self he is a black male around 30 to 40 im still being optimistic, thanks again for all your comments it really does give me hope I will see her again.
littlehelper
Try talking to your local TV station and see if they can put up photo of this thief also papers good luck
DogLostKimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
Owners - POSTER EVERYTHING YOU CAN - you need to make Dusty too hot to handle! It will work! Keep going, you can do this! x

Great you have cctv footage, is it possible to get a pic of the thief on your poster or isn't that legal?? Good ideas, labradorloopy, I am in NW9 and don't know Hendon that well, assume owner has let medivet Hendon know and asked them to put up poster? May be worth contacting dog wardens in neighbouring boroughs, our one in Brent is really good. As thief will hopefully need to buy dogfood poster at local supermarkets, also ask postmen/dustmen to look out.
labradorloopy
Hi, if you think the thief has mental health needs, you could contact the Barnet Community Mental Healthcare team who might know him. You do not say how old the thief was but you could also try the Meritage Centre in Church End, Hendon and poster the University Campus as it's graduation this week so a lot of people will be around. There is also an afro-caribbean daycare centre in Algernon Road, West Hendon. If you have a photo of the thief you could show it around. Often vulnerable members of the community are well known. Good luck.

poster e mailed to helpers in NW 2,3,4,6,7,9,10,11. N 2,3,6,12. HA 3,8,9.

Steve is the CCTV footage available for publication? There's a great success rate for finding dogs when the CCTV can be shown...
steve gibson
Hi there thank you all for your comments, we have a crime reference number and cctv footage of the man who took dusty we also have posters up but did not mention a reward thinking dusty would turn up. Im now going to put up more posters and do a leaflet drop in some of the surrounding houses mentioning a reward not sure what else to do other than contact the local dog rescue centers?
DogLostKimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
Owners need to get a crime number from the police who can trace this quickly.
Viv
lesleyjane is right, the centre should have cctv, confidentiality is a problem thougha as it is a medical centre. If the police are involved they prob could find out more than owner would be allowed. Good Luck, poor we Dusty some people are just ruthless. x
lesleyjane
Given description of thief, has owner asked in medical centre if he was a patient there, maybe he was leaving the centre after an appointment? Is there cctv? Sounds like a very distinctive person so hope this gets resolved quickly.
