- REJOICE Merlin has been found!! he was picked up at 9am very near our house but over the boarder in Bromley so a bit of confusion as we are in Lewisham and Lewisham council do not subscribe to SDK. Anyway he has been safe for the last couple of days and we can sleep tonight! and get him tomorrow. Thank you so much for all the help and support of everyone on this site. We really appreciate it. Our kids are overjoyed! They are staying with my Mum and Dad at the moment who said that it was like all their christmases had come at once. Can't wait to see him again. Thank you again.

- Fingers crossed everyone... I believe I have located Merlin. Karen is now calling SDK Environmental to try to establish found details but we may have to wait until Monday morning for a definite identification. And so, as we say, fingers crossed it's Merlin.
- 2011-07-24 12:24 ellejay
- Also can I have the name of your facebook page for him, I want to start adding people to group, and many of my list is in the area.
- 2011-07-24 12:23 Millys Mum
- Have just spoken to Karen, one of Merlin's worried owners. They are doing a truly FANTASTIC job at spreading the word! I have passed her many local contact numbers to work through and they are planning to visit all local pet shops, vets, cab companies, Royal Mail sorting office at Elmers End.
- 2011-07-24 12:21 ellejay
- I am heading over that way This Afternoon, just I cannot print posters at mo :(
there is a pet shop in downham high street, 5 min drive from beckenham junction, also one next road down from homebase by peter pans pool.
There is one in shortlands, though they not my fav as they sell puppies in there.
There is one in Eden park, opposite rising sun pub, and two in west wickham, if we can get posters in all of these pet shops, more chance of whoever had him may pop in.
Also I suggest pets at home in purley way, I know it's far, but people travel to go there.
We need to contact all vets in and around area, as we don't know where he could end up.
Vets in beckenham are, foxgrove as milly mum has said, Eden park vets, Andersons vets in sundridge park. Loads in crystal palace.
We also need to target parks, he could be being walked in beckenham place park, kelsey, Croydon road bec rec.
Let's hope if someone has him, they will slip up easy and be seen.
Don't forget to do other areas the other side of where you are, just incase he has headed that way .

- Really sorry to see your gorgeous Merlin is missing. I know you are doing a fab job already but ge as many posters out as you can. Have you thought about getting an ad in the local paper? Good luck, really hope that you get some news soon. Thinking of you. xxx

- 2011-07-24 12:08 merlin
- Hi Spike could I get some mini flyers to give out. Thanks Karen

- Karen & husband - yes please call me - Spindle has my landline number to pass to you. I also have a mobile but really only ever use it in emergencies. I have lived in Beckenham for 34 years and so the area VERY WELL. I've also been a registered DogLost Helper for well over 4 years and did a long stint as a co-ordinator! I can tell you about ALL local vets, cab companies, pet shops, etc and so please feel free to call me. I plan to be around today. We have dogs ourselves (Rottie & NZ Huntaway) and so, if out and not contactable, will only be out walking them or perhaps in the garden. I will also text you to say I'm around for you to call me. Good Luck! I hope today (warm and sunny here) will bring out lots of peeps who will see Merlin's posters. I'm just 2 minutes walk from Kelsey Park (Wickham Road entrance) and so, if a St Bernard puppy is sighted, I can be there in a flash (provided I'm around). I will also speak to the regular dogwalkers who use Kelsey Park on a daily basis.Last edited: 2011-07-24 11:26:20 by Millys Mum

- Hi my husband has just traced the bus route from outside our house and the 227 goes to beckenham from that stop so it is possible that the man took our dog on the bus. We are contacting the bus company and going back to beckenham today to hand out leaflets. If he did take him on the bus then it can't have been easy. Someone would remember. I was wondering if anyone knew any pet shops in the area as he might have had to buy a dog lead. Thanks
- 2011-07-24 08:12 merlin
- Hi Milly's mum, I have just been going through the page again and was thinking about your sighting again. Would it be possible to talk to you, could I phone you? The timings are right. If someone had taken him from outside our house they could get down to beckenham in that time. I am going to post a picture of his back markings so that you can see. He is 13 weeks old now so quite large but he can't walk very far and we have only taken him to the park once and had to carry him out and back to the car because he got so tired. Another sleepless night. Off to print out more posters. Thanks for the advice. I am going to call dog wardens tomorrow, can't get through because it is the weekend.
- 2011-07-24 02:19 ellejay
- Hi Karen, sounds like you are doing a great job, and postering is the key.
We had a very successful ending only 2 weeks ago with Layla the mastiff in addiscombe, she was missing for a week, and due to posters she was spotted in bywood woods and playing fields, Louise her owner did not stop looking and contacting all the right people and her hard work payed off.
So keep your chin up, be strong, I know it's hard, I have been through it myself, and we also got our boy back.
I have friends on palace, Sydenham and penge and have informed them all on Merlin, I am in bromley, but have run out of ink for printer, otherwise I would be postering round here also.
If you can poster round clockhouse, their cab firm is normally good to get a poster in window,.. Loads of people use them all over beckenham area.
What is your facebook page so I can add myself and get spreading the word ..
Stay postitive Hun, we will get him home xxx - 2011-07-23 20:32 Spindle
- Karen you are doing a great job is trying to find him. The more people that know he is missing the better. Keep at it. If he is handed in to a dog warden they will scan him and you will get a call, dont worry about that.
- 2011-07-23 20:04 merlin
- Hi All I'm Karen, Merlin's mum, thank you for all the comments. I have been out postering all day. No calls, no leads so feeling quite down hearted now. Kids too. We are going out tomorrow to do penge, and dulwich and I have put it out on facebook too. Coming up to the second night gone and I'm worried about what he's been eating and where he is sleeping. Can only think that someone has taken him off in a car. Thanks for the lead on Beckenham. We have been down in the park today handing out the posters and talking to people and putting posters through letter boxes on kelsey park road and the high street. Came home feeling sad, the house still smells of him! I'm going to go to Battersea tomorrow and ring round vets in beckenham on monday. I'm just worried that even if he is found by a dog warden he might not give him up cos he's a St B and v. cute.

- thank you Milly mum for your help in this. Merlins mum is being extremely active in trying to find her puppy. If anyone knows anything about this dog please call immediately.
- 2011-07-23 18:53 Millys Mum
- doglady - thanks for posting Tara's number. I know that Croydon's DWs are very good, dedicated and caring. I've now added it to my contacts sheet.
Spindle - it's good to hear that you've made contact with Merlin's owners and alerted them to the possible sighting in Beckenham. Apart from that, Kelsey Park is a very popular and well-known local park which is used by people living near and far. If I see the Ward Security patrol chaps, I will make sure they are aware. Also, it would be helpful if Merlin's owners would post on Merlin's DogLost page and keep us updated on who they have contacted and where they have postered. As we all know it's imperative to make Merlin the best-known and hottest boy in town!Last edited: 2011-07-23 18:55:11 by Millys Mum - 2011-07-23 15:59 mandym

- Just tried the landline number again but it cuts off after just 7 rings...
- 2011-07-23 11:32 Millys Mum
- Hi ellejay - Westwood Hill partially borders Crystal Palace Park and so is also near to Norwood, Sydenham, Gipsy Hill and Penge (not that I'm an expert on that area!). It also has many railway stations in the area & so owners need to contact Network Rail (make sure they obtain a reference number) on 0845 711 4141. I have just tried to call owners on landline as I only have PAYG on my mobile but phone cuts off after just a few rings. I'm wondering if the landline number listed is correct (I must admit, I've never come across a '8123' dialling code in this area but may relate to Sky, Virgin, etc). Of course the other dog warden service to call is Croydon as not far from their area (sorry I don't have this number to hand & so perhaps someone could oblige). I'm hoping that Layla's (reunited female Neopolitan Mastiff) might pick up on this as they had some good local contact numbers.Last edited: 2011-07-23 11:33:13 by Millys Mum

- Probably just a sheer coincidence but I happened to notice a St Bernard puppy being walked yesterday morning (well the man 'owner' was having to drag it cos puppy reluctant to walk). Unfortunately, I didn't notice it's face as spotted it from behind whilst in the car nor could I see its gender. I noticed it (and commented to OH who was driving) how very unusual it was to see a puppy St Bernard and we pondered about how much they would cost and the upkeep of such a breed. This 'sighting' was just a little before 9.30am in Kelsey Park Avenue, Beckenham close to the High Street traffic lights and public toilets. It looked as though the dog and walker were coming from Kelsey Park and were heading towards Beckenham High Street. Probably nothing but a coincidence but knew it was worth a mention. We often walk our dogs in Kelsey Park and around Beckenham/Hayes Common and so will keep an eye out. The best, biggest and nearest vets is Foxgrove Road (020 8650 2003) and they also provide 24/7 emergency cover for ALL local vets in the area including Eden Park, Penge, Bromley, Sydenham, Biggin Hill, etc. Your local dog wardens would be for the London Borough of Bromley, who contract-out to SDK Environmental 0844 482 8337 or Lewisham's Welfare Officers (based in Ladywell) are on 020 8314 2098 or out-of-hours on 020 8314 6000. Of course Battersea Dogs Home is an absolute MUST. I will try to make contact with owners. Last edited: 2011-07-23 11:43:04 by Millys Mum

- Sorry to see this gorgeous pup is missing,
Is this in crystal palace ?
Hopefully because of his size he will be spotted easy.
Get postering everywhere you can think of, especially parks and high streets,
Look on all free ads websites, like gumtree, preloved, pets4homes, epupz incase someone has him and trying to sell him on.
Contact all local rescue centres, foal farm in biggin hill, get them aware he is missing.
I can poster beckenham bromley and penge, just need to know if this is the palace area.
Let's hope this handsome boy is home soon xx - 2011-07-23 00:02 Majorjet (Jan) - Area Co-ordinator - Liverpool/Merseyside, North West
- Photo cropped to bring Merlin closer. Keeping everything crossed he is back home with his family soon. Good luck. Jan x
