So pleased to hear the good news poor little thing what she has been through. Maybe you will be able to offer her a loving home but Beagle Welfare (search online) will always offer help and support and ensure her a future if it proves too dificult.
Thank you again for your great humanity and practical help in getting to this stage. Have you given her a name?

Well done you guys. Very sad that 2 of her babies died - fingers crossed for the last survivor. If you belive in Fate & Destiny .....I think you are meant to be her new family ...she has chosen you! She will need to be given some good quality food now that she is nursing but I'm sure the vet will advise you. Once again WELL DONE Looking foward to see a photo of Mummy & baby

Bless you Hunterschyff. What a wonderful caring person you are. I really hope you do decide to keep this little dog and her puppy. She deserves to have an owner who cares for her and her surviving puppy.

It was so great to hear that you had caught this little girlie earlier and there was the patter of tiny paws too. Such a shame about the 2 that didn't make it but at least she has one baby left. Hope they both have a good night.

I've already said it but I will say it again.....THANK YOU....on behalf of Beagle mummy and baby for all you have done for them. It could have been a very different ending for all of them if it wasn't for you and your family. Well done, and keep us posted. Think we need a proud mum and baby photo once they have settled. :) I'll move her over to 'reunited' now as we know her story and I think, perhaps, she is infact united with her new family ;o)

We managed to catch her today, she had some pups in the night and was sleeping in a hedge with them. We caught her with some wet food. Unfortunately 2 of the pups died, but the third one is doing well and drinking Mom's milk. She is exceptionally thin and very scared...but now is warm and safe in the house - off to the vet tomorrow for good check up. She is covered in fleas and ticks, but we have washed her with special shampoo, taken the ticks off and given her some Frontline. She has drunk lots of milk and eaten some special ID doggie food. We found out that she belonged to a local hunt who gave her away as she was too small for them...clearly the people who they gave her too did not look after her properly (they told us not to give her back to them)...so for now she is with us until we find her a home which is properly suitable...if we don't decide to keep her ourselves. Thank you everyone for your kind words and advice - she is adorable and worth all the effort.

I agree with previous comments you are truly kind people to try to help this lost little girl. I too have Beagles and yes they will do almost anything for food but it has to be as smelly as possible they will avoid dried if there is something better. A trap would be best if you can find one as they are very wily and fast and almost impossible to catch if they don't want to be. I do hope you are successful, wish I was closer to help. Good luck and please keep us informed.

I have a beagle, a female & she will do ANYTHING for sausages! You could try leaving some out for her. Also white fish is a favourite.
My beagle also responds well to noisy toys. squeaky balls ect, which I use to grab her attention when she is in hunting mode!

You are such caring kind people and doing a great job. If I could suggest that instead of putting dried food out for this liitle girl, it might be better to put out smelly food ie. tinned sardines or pilchards they are quite cheap to buy and and as Beagles are scenting animals this should get her attention. When I was trying to catch an abandoned German Shepherd I used Pilchards in Tomato Sauce. She could well be catching rabbits - my Beagle is so quick that I now have to put a cat bell on her collar to give the rabbits a head start! It so sad that no owner has come forward but she could have been stolen and escaped. I doubt she was dumped as Beagles are very fashionable these days and cost quite a bit to buy. She has wandered through the farm outbuildings but seems to stay in a small wood copse close to a game crop - she is super smart and whenever we try to approach her, she runs straight to the game crop to hide. We have put dry food and water in a few places around there. We have a Jack Russell and a Labrador and they are onto her scent marking their territory, but thankfully she still is around and not scared off by them. I looked on the Internet last night and noted a few suggestions of a trap with some food in - apparently Beagles love their food. If she is clever there are plenty of rabbits around - she does not seem to have touched the dry food yet, so perhaps not hungry yet. I will call you to discuss borrowing your trap. Appreciate all your help. She really is a pretty little dog, such a shame what has happened - can't believe no-one has reported her yet.

thanks for taking the time to register all this dogs details on here Hunterschyff and all you have done so far to try and find her owner. Shame it isn't Phoebe, but at least she is also safe. How near to the farm does she come? Do you know where she is sleeping at all.....wondered if she was bedding down in an outbuilding or such like. As Lydnsyd has said, best to try and set up a regular feeding pattern, but like you say not so easy with all the wildlife, although once the dogs catches on to the time of day she'll be watching and waiting in the distance! If Braintree and Chelmsford dog wardens are reluctant to help (disappointingly) we have some dog traps that can be loaned out so that may be an option worth considering. I presume when you spoke to the not so helpful councils they at least check their records for any reports of lost Beagles and there wasn't any??

We have put posters up all over the local area, we have advised the local vets (they cover 5 different surgeries in the local area), we called the Braintree and Chelmsford Dog Wardens (both very reluctant to help!), we called the local hunt (they have beagles), we contacted the gamekeeper and also the estate office (they have over 200 residential properties and farm 6000 acres)...we knocked on neighbours doors....no-one knows who the poor doggie belongs too. Will keep trying with food, but we live in a very rural area and have lots of foxes, rabbits, hares, rats and game birds...but will persevere and she really is a sweet but very sad and lonely looking doggie.

I have a Beagle myself and she is very food orientated. I know you said you have tried to coax her with food but how about leaving food out for her on a regular basis so you can hopefully gain her trust and once that has happened the Dog warden may be able to loan you a trap. Poor girl - I hope you catch her soon. P.S. you may gain her attention with a squeeky toy
