Oh Sharon and John, my partner and I are truly sorry to hear your very sad news. I was so hoping the many sightings which were being reported would help you be reunited in better circumstances.
I heard your plight on Radio Kent and immediately got in touch with DogLost as I know that they do such a wonderful job in trying to publicise to many caring individuals. Thinking of you both at this time - "Baritone Bertie RIP" x

I am so, so sorry. I have no answer as to why such terrible things happen, but I went thru the same thing & my only way through it was to trust there was a reason, even though I still don't know what it was. It makes no sense, I know. My heart truly does go out to you. Please know that Bertie did not suffer. Sometimes God has to take the special ones back a bit quicker but you will always be together, forever. I promise you. God bless you & Bertie. x

While looking for Bertie on Walmer beach there was a little minature husky running around. we all tried to catch him but he too quick. was going up to other dogs so not that frightened. if anyone knows who he belongs to please let them know. A few people said they had seen him before with a lady owner. tried to put this on dogs found site but options not there.

Have spent 3 hours driving area between Upper Walmer, Walmer Castle, Beach, Markewood, Downs Rd. Have walked Hawksdown common and the beach. If he crossed theDover road at the end of Walmer Casle rd, then possible places to look are churchyard at Old St Mary's and Coldblower.
Sharon
Bertie was sighted running from Walmer beach, to Granville Road, and into Liverpool Road towards Hawksdown yesterday afternoon. Also believed to have been seen at Downs Primary School two to three days ago.

Later yesterday evening approximately 10.30 pm Bertie was seen in the Liverpool Road area again. Unfortunately the person who sighted him, pursued him and attempted to corner him in a garden. Bertie escaped, completely traumatised by the experience and ran up Walmer Castle Road heading into the middle of Walmer.

I please, please ask anyone who may see him NOT to chase him or attempt to corner him. Either myself (Sharon) or my husband (John), his owners, are trying to be in the area at all times, day or night. Please telephone us as soon as possible.

We have worked tireless over the last few days, walking all the paths and areas accessible to a dog, scenting the area, to attempt to keep Bertie in the area, safe. I now fear he will have been so traumatied by this incident that he will not return.

I had a couple of hours spare so drove down to have a look around... spent an hour crusing round the roads and it looks like he's either hiding up locally (the area has been scented) or heading back home. I was surprised just how close Tilmanstone was to Walmer castle so it wouldn't be difficult for him to head up there. As he was seen at Hawkshill last time, it's likely with the wood cover, sheep poo (food) and rabbits in the fields (again, food) he's got himself a nice hiding place. Might be worth seeing if a trap could be put in Hawkshill area? It would need to be manned all the time but might be worth a try?

sharron was in the area when the call came and was there within a few min ..does look as if he heads back to walmer castle but has also been sighten in the downs rd area so slowly moving north
Birdlady
Bertie could be heading to the glen, and there are gaps in the railings of Walmer Castle grounds that he could get into. Does he run from other dogs?

Just had a call from a dog walker who saw a black lab fitting Bertie's description running up LIVERPOOL ROAD towards WALMER CASTLE. She stated that there was a thunderstorm and he appeared very very scared. Owners informed. (Sighted at approx 1.30pm today 27/08/11)

Hi, I live in St Margaret's Bay and am always walking my dogs along the cliffs in that area, towards the Monument between the Bay and Kingsdown. I have printed off and laminated some posters. I will put them up around the area tomorrow. Good Luck

Hi all, we've been up to the area where Bertie has been sighted. I met the man that caught him on Thursday when he slipped his collar. I also met a lady there who said that her JRT's flushed him out of some undergrowth yesterday morning but he ran away. These sightings were in an area of fields and woodland between Ringwould and Kingsdown, quite popular with dog walkers it seems!! Food and owners coat have been left out for him. We were there a good few hours having a rummage but no luck as yet. We also hit the beaches between Dover and Sandwich and handed out contact numbers.

Is there any place in the possible sighted areas that Bertie could be hiding? I am thinking large holes, pipes, under concrete overhangs? Maybe try searching areas like this for him.
Lisa - Area Coordinator, Kent
Nothing definite as yet. Another possible sighting this morning in Aycliffe, Dover but had gone by the time we got there xx
