- Great news. It sounds as though Zak is settling down already. It is sad when you need to rehome a dog, but it`s best for Zak. At least you will still be in contact with him though. Stay safe Zak:-)xxx

- Other info continued if anybody wants to read :):
I recieved a call from the dog warden on Monday to say they thought Zak had been found in Darlington - after confirming his microchip number, it was him! I couldn't believe it, after almost a year and a half - he was alive and okay. I couldn't stop crying.
I went and picked him up, and I knew it was him - I didn't need the microchip to confirm anything. He was underweight (later confirmed by the vets although he had a clean bill of health otherwise) but other than he was his happy, hyperactive, clumsy self.
He spent Monday night with us, and we decided we needed to find a good home for him as we had a cat, that we knew just wouldn't like it at all, and we had to put him first. Zak is also a very big, strong dog that only my partner could handle (and even then it was a struggle) and as we don't live together, we knew it wasn't plausible for him to be here to walk Zak twice a day. We wanted to find him somewhere he would get the love and attention he deserved, as we are out a lot with work and university.
A family friend in York has taken him, as she often takes rescue dogs in, and as a few have recently passed away, she has one remaining - a golden retriever named Mickey. Heartbroken, I took him down on Tuesday evening and he loved it. It had the biggest garden I've ever seen (bigger than my house I would even say) with ponds for him to almost fall in, horses to play with, and lots of mud to mucky himself in!
Mickey wasn't too impressed at first, as they are both males, but I was told yesterday they are starting to get on a bit more, as they are getting used to each other, which is brilliant news. I honestly wish we could have kept Zak, but I am so so grateful he is alive and well. He is the best dog ever, almost a superhero :)
We will be visiting him reguarly once he has settled down in his new home, the fact that we have found him still hasn't sank in, let alone anything else - it's all happened so quickly!
I wish my uncle was still around, but I know he will be happy his best friend is okay. - 2012-09-20 19:23 Unknown
- I would be shocked as he is chipped and tattooed and they should have been picked up before rehoming him.
- 2012-01-23 11:33 moshalisa
- I think that one of those found in December was Zak :( I'm now kicking myself for not checking this more often!! :(
They no longer have the dog, I just hope if it was Zak that he has been rehomed to a wonderful family that will love him as much as we did :( - 2011-12-15 21:32 BBKM
- 2 German Shepherds DH6 been found on here today 15/12/2011 might be worth checking x

- Hello, thanks for all the comments about my uncle (i realise this must be confusing - i'm lisa and my mam is the one who posted about my uncle - which is her brother)
none of the dogs posted are zak :( he isn't neutered if that helps at all.
thank you everybody for your help xxx - 2011-10-04 20:58 zen
- this is such a sad situation, i really hope this lovely dog, is found safe and well soon.so sorry for the loss of your brother
- 2011-10-04 19:25 terrierlady
- There is also a German Shepherd on the Stray Aid website strayaid.co.uk in the re-homing section - kennel name Jerry Lee - approx 9 years old - certainly worth a look - its not the same dog commented by Basil as 33149 - that dog must have been claimed as he is no longer on the website. There was also a GSD at Deerness kennels on the 16th September found near Stressholme golf course Darlington but that is no longer on their website - there is a picture however on the Darlington dog warden facebook page of this particular dog. I sincerely hope you find him and i will keep a lookout for him on the various websites.

- I'm so sorry to hear of the loss of your brother. Now might not be the right time to do it, but perhaps you could ask your local paper to run a story on this? Hopefully it would prick someone's conscience. My thoughts are with your family xx

- Hiya, sorrry forgot to reply, the dog found by the dog wardens wasn't Zak :(
He was chipped and although it was expired, they were still able to tell me that the address registered on the chip was different from my uncles. Thanks though - 2011-09-14 15:16 tobysdad

- 2011-09-06 15:02 moshalisa
- I think the dog may have been picked up in Newcastle-under-Lyme, cos that's close by to the kennels. Thanks for your help though x
- 2011-09-06 15:00 sdodd308
- No I don't understand that either and why they would say it was Newcastle Council, makes you wonder if they have given you the right information on the right dog. Its so annoying especially when they don't seem bothered to even check the dog properly. I'm sorry to get your hopes up, maybe next time it might be Zak. Just keep looking xxx
- 2011-09-06 14:57 moshalisa
- I rang the number that you gave me and they gave me the number for the kennels. When I've googled the number it's come up as 'City Dogs Home' in Stoke-on-Trent, he wasn't wearing a collar as he was taken from the back yard - but a collar could have easily been put on him...
When we rang back they said they couldn't give us the chip information as it is private, but then told us that the owner was known and had been contacted. If the owner is known I don't understand why it was posted on that site :/Last edited: 2011-09-06 14:58:37 by moshalisa - 2011-09-06 14:47 sdodd308
- moshalisa did they say which kennel the dog is being kept at? Was Zak wearing a collar when he went missing? I can't believe they won't help you more. It said Newcastle council on alfies lost dog hun are you sure its Stoke on Trent? xxxLast edited: 2011-09-06 14:56:50 by sdodd308

- Phoned Newcastle council and was told if the dog was collected this morning he would likely be at the kennels. Phoned the kennels and they weren't very much help - was told they didn't know if he had a tattoo and weren't willing to look as he had been 'naughty' - said they wouldn't look later either.
Photo does look similar to Zak, although a lot smaller...
Trying to get intouch with my Uncle as he would recognise his dog straight away, but struggling to reach him (Dogs owner is my Mams brother, not son)
Dog at this kennel had been brought in with another dog, and that they are always brought in together. The owner is apparently known to them and had already been contacted and was looking for transport to come and pick them up.Last edited: 2011-09-06 14:55:49 by moshalisa - 2011-09-06 14:18 sdodd308
- Phoned landline to pass on information about a Dog listed on Alfies Lost Dogs found in Newcastle upon Tyne, which looks very like Zak. Owner was going to ring contact number and enquire. Fingers crossed this dog found in Newcastle is Zak xxxLast edited: 2011-09-06 14:19:30 by sdodd308

- I have just spoken to the onwers sister ). Sadly they have had no news of Zak, they have postered, contacted rescues, vets, they are doing everything they can to find Zak.
The sister did say that a week or so before Zak was taken, some men asked her brother if he wanted his garden doing, they did that then wanted £1000 for doing i, he refused to pay that, not long after that Zak had been taken, these men did see Zak in the back garden when they were working there, not sure if they are travellers or not.
They have contacted the police and have a crime ref number.
Zak being stolen as affected the sisters brother badly!!! due to this it took her brother around 6 weeks before he told them what had happened!! I have stressed that they need to contact the chip company and let them know Zaks been stolen!!
I have given the owners sister advise which i will put in a mail to her daughter, i have suggested they try and get him in the paper, to check sites like gumtree, also to make a FB page for him to get him out there, contact vets in the area, ask them to put poster up of him!!Last edited: 2011-09-06 21:01:02 by Maggie - 2011-08-22 09:52 Jayne - Founder Doglost.
