I've bumped Dusty's page Sally so that people looking on site will also realise that you're still looking for her.
Sally Hayne
Its been a year now since we lost Dusty. But we havent given up hope. We all hope one day for that call that shes been found. We will be doing some new posters this weekend and putting them up around preston just to place Dustys image in peoples mind again and to let people know we are still searching.

Very simlar but looks a rough collie to me. Sometimes people do mistake the two breeds so always worthwhile checking found rough collies as well. I'm so pleased Dusty's family is still looking. We have had dogs turn up after years let alone months on this site. Dusty is a real beauty and they are wonderful survivors in the wild.

hi sally sorry not been out and about searching for dusty been tied up over a week with another dog, sally yoiur mum bumped into a guy she thought was asian walking a sheltie i know your mum confirmed it was smaller dog than dusty but about 4-5 days ago i was driving down watling street road and i saw a guy walking 2 shelties he wasnt the shelties werent same as dusty but i find it strange that an asian man is a dog walker and if its the same guy your mum saw whats the connection with shelties? apparently hes on cromwell road, im not 100 per cent he doesnt know anything about dusty all this seems a bit odd to me and its possible the route dusty took she could have quite well have arrived back there in cromwell road i think this is worth pursuing we need to find the dogwalker can you make some enquiries and ill do what i can from this end, while checking for the other dog we covered almost foot by foot the land up near the spar at red scar and all the fields around so god forbid if anything happened to dusty we would have found her with the ground we covered so can we try and track down this asian guy that walks shelties
DogLostShelties Mum - Area Volunteer, Kent
I keep looking at Dusty's page with fingers crossed. Shelties can live of turnips so an allotment might be keeping her going. They are such a tough little breed when it comes to survival they're extremely good. Might it be an idea to get a tracker dog like Owl's Wispa to have a look? Sylv xx
mumstaxi
went down to garage and allotments at 7.15 this morning bumped into a guy with a female sheltie oldish gentleman he will watch out for dusty apparently an asian guy takes his dog for a walk sometimes prob same one seen few days ago .
Sally Hayne
Had a telephone call last night from a girl on Lower Bank road number 39. She said she thought shed heard noises coming from a derilict garage next to her flats and her dog was always drawn to there. We went there and had a look. We couldnt get in the garage but managed to get our heads in for a look. Full of rubish but no sign of Dusty or anything else living in there. However it does back onto the alotments so is still worth keeping our eye out around that area. Passed my number onto the neighbours and asked them to keep a look out
DogLostRiverlady
Dusty is on twitter
mumstaxi
hi sally went down on allotments for a couple hours yesterday spoke to a few people they will keep an eye out went back around 4 pm yesterday also have a look round moor park x

bumped for the possible sighting
Sally Hayne
Had a call yesterday from lower bank road off watling st rd, a young man was walking his dog yesterday and he said he saw a dog matching dustys description, walking alone, near the back of blackpool rd allotments. My mum and dad went there straight away and talked to the family and retraced the lads steps, but no luck. put fresh posters up too. Obviously can't be sure if his is Dusty but Going back there this morning for another look.
Sally Hayne
mumstaxi
recently spoke to dustys owner nothing since spoke last no leads no sightings, owners did previously contacted the lancashire evening post to ask them to run dustys story but heard nothing back, i rang them yesterday and they are prepared to run a story about dog lost itself and include dustys story, i also mentioned brook but not sure if that will appear in the story do hope so fingers crossed if it all goes ahead it may jolt someones memory or more hopeful we will get a lead xxx everything crossed everybody xx
Sally Hayne
Thankyou for that. At least we know now. Wondering if we should now shift our attention back to Lea as the dog found a few weeks ago is still a mistery and might be worth a shot. Will go back there this weekend and re-poster the area
mumstaxi
just back in, been looking round deepdale holme slack area, spoke to some residents with dogs and found the gentlemen with the sheltie, i was invited in to meet the dog lovely family and have lovely spaniel as well, they have had this dog (male) for quite a while.will fb dustys details and share and one family member is up in moor/nook area and will spread the word and keep her eyes open, people till aware re postering. thanks to that family lovely to meet you all and thanks for caring enough to watch out for dusty
DogLostShelties Mum - Area Volunteer, Kent
That is strange an elderly man walking a dog at night. Older retired people walk their dogs during the day and it's usually a social occasion as well. Everything's staying crossed for you. love Sylv xx
mumstaxi
hi sally still been going out and checking ads in papers etc x
Sally Hayne
Still no sign of our Dusty returning but we havent give up. We are still focusing on the Holme Slack area. This is because we are aware of an elderly man who we now know lives on Ramsey Ave walking a Sheltie dog only at night. This are backs onto the field where Dusty originally was spotted and went missing from so we keep driving around this area because we need to see this dog for ourselves. Hopefully we will see him soon. Also replacing posters as often as we can so Dustys face remains in the publics view
mumstaxi
i spoke to an elderley gentleman couple weeks ago near shops round corner from ronaldsway had a terrier and sheltie, said sheltie was a male sheltie seemed quite happy with him, i didnt check it was amale though told him about the posters. been out lasrt night round red scar and spar and asda etc, nothing back re dog on sheffield drive still a bit strange this one needs confirming one way or the other
Sally Hayne
Had a call from a family member today that saw an elderly man walking a terrior dog and a shelty matching dustys colouring in Holme Slack last night at about 9 o clock. He followed the man and he went into a cul de sack at the end of Ronalds way. Obviously this might not be dusty but its exremely close to where dusty went missing and was spotted in the early days, so we are going tonight to see if we may see this man and his dogs again, to make sure
mumstaxi
person who caught a reperted sheltie rang dustys owners on sunday to say they caught the dog again but it was a male, they identified breed fom posters in area but when caught the dog 1st time dog warden has it logged as a male? no contact address or number, but the dog warden does have, she hasnt been very helfull really, but this dog the people have got if its a sheltie has not been reported missing by anyone and been roaming for many days police not notfified or dog warden so whats happening with his dog i really dont know is it male or female is it dusty couple contact in lea area are trying to make enquiries
mumstaxi
recently spoke to emma welcome aboard and thanks for helping out. Contacted colin mid west rescue and just spoke to mrs dodson in blackpool she is aware of dusty and is contacting a member who lives in lea(used to show shelties)and asking her to contact me. Mrs dodson very very helpful has dealt with shelties for 50 years she is away from 21.9-29.9 will contact when returns to see if she can help. had a long chat with her and she has known shelties go missing for 12 months and survived out in the open suggests dustys owner contact the breeder were she got dusty from (if bought from a breeder) and they may be able to help .been on park for last few days.

Hello, I had a phone call today from a dog lost volunteer who was very wonderful. Although I had seen the posters around and had herd of Dusty I was unaware that I could really be of any major help. I have suggested placing posters around the Park campus of Preston college (which is on Moor Park). I am also going to go into Preston this week to have a look around and place up more posters. IF anyone wants my help in doing a joint search I am more than happy to come along for that.
Sadly part of Shelties temperaments is that they are wary of strangers and can be skittish. I hope Dusty is found safe and well.

Emma.
Kaz
Hi may well be worth contacting breed specfic rescues in your area, their can send an alert out via e-mail most do newsletters, to dog lovers in that area!! northern greyhounds/lancs gsd to namr 2. Best of british
mumstaxi
posters put in local surrounding areas and restaurant and pubs spoke to lots people on park close by gave posters and details.been in to preston rspca today to talk to them they adamant dusty not taken there, suggested to dustys owner that they contact dog warden and ask her to ring finders of this dog and ask them to ring dustys owners then get confirm details of found dog. dustys owners going to rspca today.also someone took a dog in matching dustys description but escaped, dog warden has told dustys owners doesnt sound like her dog. something no adding up with all this will continue searching and postering and keeping regular contact with dustys owners
DogLostShelties Mum - Area Volunteer, Kent
Take her photo with you. I think the lady should be taken seriously. Sometimes people don't know their breeds. You have a big advantage that this girl is chipped. xx
Sally Hayne
The search is still on. been on lea this wk as a we were informed of a possible sighting there last Fri. but also received a second call from a lady who claims a friend handed a dog in to the rspca last Monday matching dustys description. when we went there on Tuesday they said they didn't have a dog like that, but the lady has rang again insisting they handed in a mini collie on Monday. will go again tomorrow, so fingers crossed, we need our girl home x
DogLostShelties Mum - Area Volunteer, Kent
Am watching your progress from afar as in Kent and wish I could help. I know it's really hard to keep positive but remember the breed is a master at survival. Can live on turnips and will have adapted to a safe routine of keeping under cover. Interesting the poster being taken. One thing about this breed they stand out like a sore thumb. xx
Sally Hayne
Out again last night, around spar and Fulwood row woods and fields. Not stopping looking but I am really beginning to think someone has her due to the lack of sightings. Poster was taken from Tesco again, not from the staff but we have replaced it. Will be back out tonight going over the usual grounds until we hopefully get some fresh info.
mumstaxi
out again last night all round back asda and businesses there up to redscar and spar/garage footpath from red scar to brookfield and round grange park, moor nook
BonBon
Keeping everything crossed that Dusty is found safe and well very soon. Looks so like my own sheltie girl. Sadly, far too far away to help search.
mumstaxi
many thanks emma x

We put the pillow out on Saturday evening and have been checking every hour or so but no sign yet. We've managed to shelter it from the wind and rain. We've also been looking around the local woods/fields around Fulwood Row, Fernyhalgh lane etc. Hope she's home soon

Sally Hayne
Been out looking for 6 hours today. Around Spar, and Fulwood Row fields and woods. Also went around lady well and Haighton & Grimsargh area. Put more posters out. Will be out again tonight when it goes darker
mumstaxi
have been in contact regularly with dustys owners, have been out most days searching, the recent sighting is not that far away from where dustys owners used to live and i bumped into the new owners of their house last night , they are checking regularly for her. was out till midnight last night spoke to lots of people and gave them contact numbers even got escort from the big spar warehouse, they have copies dustys posters and will put up round their building. sally used to take dusty to the tesco express in fulwood and i wondering if dusty went to the spar because if might have been similar to tescos, could really do with more voluteers round this area we havent got many .
Sally Hayne
Recieved a telephone call today from a lady who said she saw Dusty last Friday 2nd between the red scar estate and the Spar petrol station near the motorway junction. Have been out looking and putting out more posters around that area, red scar and Grimsargh
mumstaxi
been out this morning through back of sainsburys through to wat st road,in the woods i came across 2 park rangers and several walkers they are doing 7 park walk today one of the rangers took my number and he us passing dustys details to all the other park rangers.Been out tonight a good four hours on home slack spoke to several people posters are working, been up onto grange moor nook grange park moor park back at rear sainsburys again x
mumstaxi
hi sally, please dont give up theres hope its seeming like someone has taken dusty in, sometimes people take dogs in and dont register them as found i will go out again tomorrow, do you have any spare posters i could take with me my printer is on strike please let me know if i can do anything to help, take lots of posters with you xx good luck
Sally Hayne
I walked through the allotments last weekend but think it is worth trying them again. Will be going over moor nook area again tonight and the cemetery etc. Have also been into LEP and they have said they may be able to do a storey for us, they will let us know. Its been 2 weeks now, but we are not giving up on you Dusty xLast edited: 2011-09-02 16:08:38 by Sally Hayne

mumstaxi
just back in now been driving round few hours, been watling street road deepdale road, moor nook grange brookfield. grange park gave dustys details to a few people that were out and they said had seen her posters, come on dusty time to come home girl xx
mumstaxi
hi has anyone checked the allotments? x
mumstaxi
hi had a drive round couple hours yesterday, been out today round grange park several people took posters from me and a man on grizedale is rounding up some dog walkers to check round the area given posters to office on cemetary they will display and couple of local shops checked part brockholes woods but its a massive place and tricky to negotiate xx
Sally Hayne
Had a phone call today, saying that Dusty was spotted in the woodland area around the top of Grizedale Cresent, Moor Nook on Saturday 27th. Anyone looking, try this area.
Sally Hayne
We have widened our seach today to Grimsargh, putting up posters etc whilst also consentrating on the usual areas also. No luck as yet or phone calls about any sightings.
dorofin
Hi this may sound crazy to you ,but have you tried walking in a straight line, from where dusty was lost ,as millie [when i looked on the map] had gone about 4 or 5 miles on in a straight line [across fields] as she was never sighted after the first and only time.we lost days continually going back to where she was sighted,it seems that that they move on,so my logic now is if she was seen in say [made up name]brookfield then go to the next place to brook field,do you see what i mean? good luck sorry i can't come and help as in west yorks and today am searching for dana who went missing quite near where millie did.
Sally Hayne
A Lady at the hairdressers near the Sumners pub claims she saw Dusty late Tues afternoon. My husband has been around the back of Sainsburys leading up to Holmslack at 5.30 am today, while it was still dark and quiet, calling out softly. Unfortunatley no signs. He also went behind behind Brookfield and made his was through to Redsands area, also with no luck.
mumstaxi
sally possible someone who knows where dusty is is removing posters, is it possible to place another and hide but able to view the shelter? you might see who is responsible also the villa pub in ribbleton near rspca and gammul pub maybe worth asking if they will take a poster and 55 th club in church i know for a fact one or two dogs have been sold by customers in thee, if i can help please dont hesitate to ask
DogLostSherlock Bones Police Liaison Co-ordinator
Bus shelter posters are often removed by the bus companies - try putting a couple of posters just to the side of the stop if you can and see if the same thing happens again. If it does, then yes, I'd say concentrate there for a while, if not, you know you have an annoyingly unhelpful bus company!
Sally Hayne
Ok thanks for the advice. I dont know if this is worth mentioning too, but a poster we put up at the bus stop opposite the Garrison Pub, infront on the pizza place keeps being taken down. This has happened since day 1.I have replaced it everyday. Last week I replaced it a 8.30 am and it was gone again by 9.30am. Im wondering if I should consentrate in this area also incase someone has her
DogLostShelties Mum - Area Volunteer, Kent
Hi Sally Not sure if Dusty is shy with strangers but most but not all shelties are, so the chances of her being picked up are not high. I think she's playing a waiting game under cover and may go out at night. A very clever breed who can survive. Millie is an example. So I would think not caught and keep scenting etc. More than like she'll be where she's lost or working back to where she comes from, but I suspect the former. Dee is right, never shout, but call in soft tones. A very spooky breed. xx
DogLostSherlock Bones Police Liaison Co-ordinator
Sally you don't want to be shouting for her - it'll scare her... think like a dog, if you can... nice, friendly low voices, in her mind she's thinking she's in real big trouble for being out alone and she's going to stay hidden if she hears you... The advice sheet Jan sent you yesterday should have advice on this :) x
Sally Hayne
Thanks for al your help and advice. We have today widened our search to all of Ribbleton and Callon putting up posters etc. We have been to all areas wistleing and shouting so Im thinking someone has got her in their house. Just hoping we find her soon.
Witchy-poos
I'm here watching & will help where I can. Passed details on to everyone I know in the area, dropped a lot of posters around my own area (Moor Park) shared on FB & talking to people when out with my own dogs, handing out flyers & driving round the areas a bit if I'm passing. I think Mumstaxi is right, I think someone has taken Dusty in so possibly a good idea to flood the areas with posters? I hope Dusty is home soon.xxx
mumstaxi
hi when i went out not alot of people had seen the posters could i suggest maybe bigger posters and flooding the ribbleton callon areas its seems possible someone has dusty and sadly in parts of these areas money talks but i think lots lots more posters might help please ring me if i can help with the postering and im sure witchypoos would help thanks
DogLostMajorjet (Jan) - Area Co-ordinator - Liverpool/Merseyside, North West
Sally I resent the info/advice and scenting instructions to your own email addy late last night, it was sent the other day to the email you have registered on the details. She will be hiding up somewhere. Great to see Millie (see post by dorofin) has been reunited after 27 days, thanks for letting us know the great news dorofin. xxx
Sally Hayne
Thanks for all the comments and help. We are still searching and have our fingers crossed. I am heading towards Brookfield and Gammull for another look, we wont stop looking
BaileyP
Sorry to hear about Dusty - too far away to help practically but all fingers and paws crossed here.x
Cheryldene
just thought you probably contacted all the local vets surgeries? to put card up /picture? already ?as it's school holidays what about local leisure centres /supermarkets notice boards for pics? the local children out and about might be good for spotting her?
Cheryldene
good luck, ,I have asked one of the top behaviour trainers in the area (goosenaugh./preston)to post it on,so it should get out to lots of dog folks soon. best of luck
dorofin
good luck with your search, try not too get to down keep looking,we were looking for our friends sheltie millie ,she was lost in a very rural area for 27 days, she was found last night in a farmers field and is now back safe with mum & dad .
DogLostShelties Mum - Area Volunteer, Kent
Am wondering if a similar dog to Owl's Wispa to track her would be useful? xx
mumstaxi
hi just got back in,been out 3-4hours around gamull brookfield arears spoke to loads people given dusty details been down into the fields behind asda the private hospital and near anderton arms left poster with asda and some businesses nearby and a couple up red scar works. Spoke to a family near the old derelict church on watling/gamull lane and little girl said she saw dusty on the grass on the derelict church site, but please bear in mind she was only 6/7 years old but was quite adamant dusty was the dog she saw within last couple days. been into rspca and double checked and showed them picture and left poster with them and also left posters with a couple pets shops. a couple of regular dog walkers will keep look out for her.Left poster with nearby dog boarding kennels.
the sheltie lady
Thanks for emailing me Shelties's Mum - I will cross post to all the sheltie forums and inform the sheltie rescue too.

Thanks Sylv for posting your good advice. :) Have advised leaving an item of clothing where she has been sighted and said she may hide up and only come out when quiet, she has originally gone missing from Sally's house where she was being looked after, she bolted when the door was open. Her owners are now staying at the house. xxx
DogLostShelties Mum - Area Volunteer, Kent
Will more than likely return to the spot she went missing from and if she lives only a few miels away may be able to smell it. Some dogs can smell up to 15 miles away. She's probably very uptight and will bolt again unless approached gently. Shelties have a good scenting ability so that might be a good idea back to the placce she went missing from. Doglost can give very good advice in this regard. Have contacted Sheltie Lady as she has some very good contacts. Sylv xx

Spoken to Sally earlier, Dusty's owners are in the process of moving. I've given advice on things to do. They have not contacted the Chip Co yet as waiting for details from vet advised they ring the Chip Co a.s.a.p. and register her missing, Chip Co will be able to find their details on the system. Chip Co contact details are in the advice/info email. Also advised they leave an item of clothing in the area she has been sighted and will email Scenting Instructions to Sally. xxx

I have made contact via text with Sally just waiting for more info. There is no photo of Dusty at the moment but Sally is trying to sort one out, I have got permission to use a REUNITED photo/s so we can get email alerts sent out etc (thank you to owner for use of photo/s). xx

Tried to contact owner, no answer, they maybe out looking for her. I have emailed info/advice and sent a friend request via Facebook to Sally; who registered the details on DL and maybe the owner. Details updated to show up on the poster but will add more when we know the circumstances of how Dusty went missing. Keeping everything crossed she is found soon. xxx

Sorry to see that DUSTY is missing.
  • If your dog is microchipped please let the microchip company know that your dog is missing and check that all details are up to date.
  • Owners targeted by a malicious hoaxer demanding money for the return of their dog should phone the police on 101 immediately and contact admin@doglost.co.uk
  • A photograph of your dog is essential for the website. If you have not already uploaded one, please do so by clicking on Update details. Alternatively you can email it to admin@doglost.co.uk quoting the dog's DogLost ID number: (32147)
  • Obtain a missing poster by clicking on View poster above. Posters are very important so start postering now!
  • You will need to be logged in to upload photos, edit your dog's details, or add comments. You can add comments by clicking on Click here to add a comment.
  • Contact dog wardens, vets and local rescue centres, and in Scotland, the Police. Give a detailed description with any distinguishing marks/scars or send them a copy of your DogLost poster. You can find vets in your area here.
  • If your dog has been stolen inform the police immediately and obtain a crime reference number (CRN). Send an email to stolen@doglost.co.uk.
  • If your dog is picked up and taken to rescue kennels, it can be legally re-homed after seven days. Visit rescue centres in person and do not rely on checking by phone alone. Other people may not recognise your dog by your description, so give them a DogLost poster.
  • Keep us updated by keeping your dog's page up to date and check for posts from helpers who may have suggestions and possible matches or sightings
  • DogLost is free and anyone asking for money to find or return your dog is not volunteering for us. If you are concerned about an approach you have received, please email admin@doglost.co.uk
