was really hoping you would be reunited by now, as i stated before there are many dogs missing longer than blue whose owners are still searching, they never forget a loving owner and will quickly re adjust back, there are many wonderful people on this site who help like alfiesmum, sherlockbones, inspector clouseau, to name just a few, just because these other people have chipped your dog doesnt automatically mean they own it , the landlord should be ashamed of heartache he has caused as should people who have your dog, my brother got a lovely little jack russell from a rescue, these people could have given a rescue dog a home, if i had found a dog and no matter how attached i got it wouldn't have been mine to keep and after doing checks to find out about rightful owners and was satisfied would have returned dog to owners although i would be upset. Since i first posted on this page i have deleted two messages instead of opening, sorry whoever that was. Please never give up its your dog i wouldn't..................Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have been following blue's page from start am very upset you dont seem to be getting anywhere. I wish i lived nearer (im in Lincoln) i would go to the pub and tell the landlord of the pain he is causing you, to most of us our dogs are like our children, its very cruel and selfish of him . I am totally behind microchipping but perhaps from a different point of view its as well chipped doesnt automatically mean you are the owner otherwise no amount of photos vet records, proof from breeder. rescue, person where you got your dog would be any good if someone else could simply chip a dog and it legally become theirs ( tootsie the yorkie appears to be similiar prob to yours kept and chipped by others). If it were the case many of these pages would be wiped clear with no hope of being reunited. There has to be something to protect people like you, as well as owners of missing dogs which have been chipped. There are many other dogs (also unchipped) missing longer than blue which probably have bonded/settled with different people (and yes its thankful they havent come to any harm) but its not their dog. Please dont give in to these people, dont worry about confusing blue a dog never forgets being loved, never forgets where it comes from and will quickly adjust, what is best for the dog is to be reunited with you its rightfull owner where it will be loved and happy again.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Whether or not you opt to take her back or leave her where she is, surely you want to make sure that she really is ok? and that the person who has her now is aware that they did wrong? It sounds as though the landlord deliberately served a red herring up to the police who interviewed him by giving an incorrect area to search. SuzeLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Well I think we have drawn a blank - issued posters at the local school and the doctors in the Abbyfields estate. Spoken to a few people around the area who have not seen Blue - could this be a red herring. I find it hard to belive that the landlord doesn't know there names, they are in walking distance from the pub and we have dropped posters through the doors of these houses. I'm thinking its proberly best that we dont find Blue, it will upset the dog having to be drawn between the two, at least she is being looked after. We dont know what to do next for the best. Duke that's very good news! Have you got a postcode for the area and I'll ask Rach to do an email mailshot. With the publicity today from GMTV we should have a number of people looking at the site who might recognise Blue.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Phone call from the Police yesterday evening, At last they have spoken to the Landlord and he has now stated that he doesn't know the people's names but he has told the police of the area in which they live. Both myself and my partner have taken the day off work in order to visit this area (Abbyfields) it is a large houseing estate with no shops but there is school and a doctors surgery, posters are at the ready and we shall just walk around the area and talk to people....Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Get stroppy Duke. Threaten the now famous (on here!) police complaints form if no-one deals with your need to have a crime investigated. Dog theft is as much of a priority as a burglary... it needs dealing with. Good luck! xxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

The waiting game. I've had no contact from the police since the last phone call, so I rang them to find out what was happening, the last information I had from the police was that he was going to interveiw the landlord on Saturday night. I rang today but the PC is now on holiday and will not be back until a week next Thursday and nothing has been entered on the crime report, so no updates. I asked if there was anybody else to could talk to, but his Sgt is off until Thursday, I left a measage for Julie to contact me asap, she is back on duty in the morning. Hi I am really interested in blue's story my rottie vanished in woods but a dog was found dead on A1 4 hours later but was removed and PROCESSED )see rottweiler NG33 for details) no one looked for tag or chip but I wonder if theft by finding also includes dead dogs ???????????? Go for it fight to get him back use anything you've got what about blood typing or tissue typing from your own vets to get confirmation if it goes that far - insist on this dog being checked or any other relevant info your vets have medically being matched with the dog in question. You must be so frustrated and whoever has your dog should think about the hell you are going through if I found a stray dog I'd want nothing more than to re-unite it with it's proper owner - if they are dog lovers it is their moral & ethical duty to hand it back. don't give up !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

theft by finding is indeed a crime - I emailed the Police FAQ page to confirm - see reply I got~~~~~If some one finds a dog straying and they keep it and do not report to anyone that they found it - is it a crime?~~~~~~~There could be some criminal liability if a person found a dog and just kept it as they had no right to do that. If a person found a dog and wanted to keep it they should inform the police and they will then be given some paperwork which would cover them legally. If the owner did not come forward within a specified amount of time then the person would be legally able to keep the dog. http://www.policefaqs.org/content/default.mthLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Best Wishes with your search. Blue looks to be quite distinctive so you should be able to match him with his photo. It seems rather strange that this dog known via the pub has recently been chipped - smacks of someone giving the new people a tip off - or am I being too cynical? - Val Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

O well I've drawn a blank with the vets in the area. They are saying that without the chip number, name of the dog and address of where she is, they cannot give any information. They do not register the dogs which are chipped by breed (how simple is that) and if I did have any of that information then I would not need to bother the vets. According to the landlady, the landlord is away until Saturday, so even more waiting time, so near, I hope this is Blue as I cannot take much more, we've had so many false calls and sightings of her. I wish I could do this Miss Marple bit full time but work gets in the way.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Duke. Firstly, I didn't know "Theft by finding" was an legal offence - I knew it was wrong and we more than frown upon it but that is wonderful news that it is legally recognised by your police force. Many others here will take comfort from that. Now regarding the chip - your police force should also be able to confirm to you that (worryingly for owners of microchipped lost dogs) a microchip isn't proof of ownership (it is however proof of identity) at the current time. The fact that the people who took Blue have had her chipped therefore does not mean that they legally own her. Presumably if the landlady is now stating she does know the finder of the dog the police can also force them to give the owners details? You wouldn't need to go down the petlog route (and i suspect under Data Protection Act this might be a struggle anyway, although the police should have the authority to override the act anyway). Good luck, again keep us updated xxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

The story so far: The police called at the house at 11am and left at 1230pm. A full statment was made and a full description of Blue was taken, together with photos of Blue and your poster. I was given a "victims of crime" booklet, and the offence recorded as "Theft by finding". When he left he advised me what will happen next and his first port of call will be the pub. He then phoned me back after about 20 mins to say that he has spoken to the landlady, who now says that the dog is not the same one as was shown to her (photo) by me some time back. (although she did say to me that it was). She also told the police that the owners of this dog did find her some time ago and now have had her chipped. The police have asked me to find out if there is a register of chipped dogs in my area. I gave him a telephone number of the "Data base pet log". I did ring this myself but without the chip number it would not be posible to give me any information and the data protection act would get in the way. I'm hoping that the police can cut through this and find out if a tan and white Jack Russel bitch was in fact chipped in my area and then we can find where Blue is lodgeing. I will be visiting the vets in the area to see if in fact any of them did chip Blue, and try to glee any information myself, although they may not give me any, I will ask anyway. Well thats it for now folks, I will continue, stay tuned. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Woooo hooooo!! Well done Duke - and thanks for passing on the word about Dog Lost - we'd be more than happy to talk to Julie. If it helps when you next talk to her, on Dog Theft Action (www.dogtheftaction.co.uk) we also have a secure area that the police (with proof of identity) can access - just for them, dog wardens and the like... so "sensitive" issues can be discussed. Fingers crossed this brings you some results, and gets Blue back home where he belongs. Keep us updated as things progress and don't hesitate to call/pm/email if you need any advice. Hang on in there Blue, we're coming to find you!! xxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Dee. Second visit to police station, very ,very helpful indeed. Julie from the enq staff shows greyhounds, was very interested and totally agreed with me that this needed to be sorted out very quickley. She has informed the local beat bobby to call on us and also to have a word with the local landlord. She has also phoned the pub and informed them that an investigation will now be started to get Blue back, the landlady denighs all knowledge and the landlord was not available to comment, we shall see!!!! Julie was very interested in you guys and asked me loads of questions, see said that see will be contacting you to become a dog helper, great news from this end, We feel much better today. Duke I think you have enough information to now get Blue registered as stolen: if you can get a crime number, then the police can go and speak to the landlord - if he doesn't tell them where Blue is, he's withholding information which relates to a crime: will he risk that... Dee. Blue went missing in the Elstow area of Bedford on the 13 Nov 04. Was told by a local Landlord that he had seen Blue but would not reveal who she was with. We thought that was out of order, we were friends I thought, we don't drink there much any more although we do go in to see if Blue is there with her new owners. They dont know how loved Blue was by us and we do need her back in our lives. I will offer a puppy from our new litter for her return.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I rember when freddie went missing last year, i called 999 because i feerd Freddie had got onto the M42 (He had) and the controler was very anoyed with me, he asked me if it was a life or death situation, and my reply was, "If he cause's cars to break hard and swerve, then yes it is", he then hung up and called me back on a non emergency line. BTW, We returned to the same show again this year (last weekend) but it was held at Solihull rideing school this year, Anyway, Freddie and I managed a 4th place rossett in Intermeadiat Agility (we got told off for being late for that class because we see Jayne on TV and stopped to watch) And a 3rd place trophy for Jumping, and on monday we got a 2nd place trophy for Agility, So as you can see, Freddie is still going strong :-)Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

RE : FINDING DOGS AND THE LAW - NOT VERY SATISFACTORY ANSWER FROM THE POLICE FAQ BOARD - "" I have found a dog, what do I do? ---- Answer ----- Your first call should be to the local dog warden. The dog warden has a responsibility to collect all stray dogs that are found in a public place. If for some reason the dog warden will not collect the dog, and you are happy to take the dog to your local police station then the police have a responsibility to take the dog. The police will not go out and collect stray dogs nor will the RSPCA who do not take in stray dogs. -- Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
