- Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.... - 2012-06-17 22:45 Majorjet (Jan) - Area Co-ordinator - Liverpool/Merseyside, North West

- Ive just read on NW facebook that Tara has died. Im so so sorry. Tara was assaulted/tortured whilst missing for a week or so. FB post states her death was caused by some internal damage done to her in this vicious attack. How could anyone be so horrid to the core to do this to a helpless dog.RIP Tara safe now in doggie Heaven.Stolen Tays mum x

- DogLost CJ Thanks for your update on Tara. Glad she is ok now.:-)
- 2011-10-14 09:35 CJ - Police Liaison & SE Regional Coordinator
- Last advice came from vets who after recieving payment for the last bill up dated by saying that they would be taking out her stiches and expect that no further treatement would be needed.
In mean time we are awaiting forms from crime stoppers in order to launch an appeal for infomation with reward to try and catch those responsible.
Unsure of any further information on how she is doing at home- maybe the owners would be able to update on this ?? - 2011-10-11 21:15 Unknown
- Still no news then on Tara.
- 2011-09-30 16:20 Unknown
- Could we just have an update on Tara`s progress please? Have been thinking about her a lot.
- 2011-09-26 20:04 Unknown
- A friend has told me she has used a herbal remedy named Anxiety, which can be used for dogs and cats. A|nd hbad some very good results. Maybe similar to what other members have suggested. But its early days yet for Tara, after what she has been through, not just the attack but all the visits to the vet. It has probably taken a lot our of her being examined, injected, x rayed? etc. (like it does us). She probably just needs time as well as medication. And of course all the love you are giving her. God Bless and loads of love to Taraxxxxxxx

- There is a product called D.A.P, I think the dogs trust use it in their dogs that are in kennels to help with stress levels. It comes in a diffuser form (like a glade plug in), a spray or impregnated collar. The diffuser works wonders on my dog around firework night, might be worth a try x
- 2011-09-26 11:04 Nina
- Have you heard of Bach Flower Remedies. It might be worth visiting their web site to see if their products could help with Taras recovery. We used their products on our recued Scotties when we got them as they were so angry/nervous. We bought both Holly and Walnut varieties, put a couple of drops on a biscuit twice a day and got outstanding results in a short time.

- Hi Maureen. Sorryh to see that Tara is a little jumpy at the mement. I know its easy to say and not so easy to do but I expect it will take time for her to trust again, I think the mental scars will probably take a little longer to heal than the physical ones. I did watch a TV programme where a dog had lost trust and they were advised to ask people of both sexes just to say hello to the dog as they passed him by, but nothing more. Thge dog was confined not because he was aggressive, but because he was afraid. I thiunk he had been ill treated. After a short while he began to trust again. I can understand how you feel Maureen, these so called human beings are the dregs of society and will probably never amount to anything. Hope when they are caught they get the strictest penalty they can for this horrific crime. Sending absent healing and love to Tara. And kind regards to you Maureen and your family. We are all rooting for Tara and I will pray for you all. God Blessxxx

Thanks CJ. :) I've posted the message onto Tara's Facebook Group. x - 2011-09-25 08:21 CJ - Police Liaison & SE Regional Coordinator
- IMPORTANT MESSAGE TO ALL WHO DONATED FUNDS
Ater a tremendous response there are enough funds to pay the vets bills up to date plus some in reserve for future medication and treatment that is still on going.
The appeal was launched to pay the costs of treatment but would like to ask that maybe some funds could be used as a reward to be given to catch the culprits.
We need to make sure everyone is happy with this as they have given to help costs and do not wish that anyone feels they may have been mislead if funds are used also to help catch the persons responsible.
this message will be posted onm facebook but please feel free to cross post to anyone you know who donated.
please respond if you do NOT wish funds to be used for reward by sending an email to
doglostfundraising@yahoo.co.uk
mark it NO to REWARD
thank you CJ - 2011-09-24 11:47 Unknown

- Glad Tara is getting better :)
Have tried to leave a message on Tara's thread but can't find a "reply" button. Is there a way of cropping the donations so that only first names are visible? People may not be comfortable about having their full name on the internet. We have to give our full names because of revealing financial details (fair enough) but may not want that in information in the public domain. If we just had first names, people could check their donation has gone through. Thanks - 2011-09-14 15:21 J MO
- Both Dog World and Our Dogs have agred to run a story about Tara's attack in their National Dog papers, with links to Doglost and Tara's Facebook page and police contact details. Hope this helps to find who did this. xx

- Hi janiejewel1649, I think the problem is you are trying to use your doglost password to access your paypal account - you need to use your paypal password once you get to the landing page for the fundraising doglost account, let me know if this works for you
- 2011-09-13 20:15 Unknown
- Hi Tara and your owners just want to say hello again and am pleased that you are healing nicely. I hope they soon find the scum who did this to you Tara. Am still having troubled trying to donate, tried all the options but nothing will go tyhroiugh. I have used my usual password (like on here) bit it just wont work. Doglost did change my password earlier this year on a temporary basis (though I am still using it). And this is how I get on the doglost site. Have used "Donate " now button before without any bother. Is there another easier way I can donate anyone? Think there is a paypal/password problem here. Thank you.. God Bless Tara xxxxxxx

- Hi Tar. Just checking to see how you are. Pleased you dont need a second operation too. I would like to donate to Tara`s fund, butr am having some difficulty in doing so. Have tried paypal (thought I did have an account). Not sure now). I then tried the Donate Now button, no joy there either. Does not seem to accept my DL password, I know it is correct, because I used it tonight. Then I tried Emergency Funding which keeps taking me back to Tara`s "Reunited" page. CAN SOMEONE HELP PLEASE?

- J MO, Tara has been to the vets a couple of times since Friday but she is back tomorrow for a further op. Will keep you all posted on how she is. I've had a few requests to create an FB page for Tara so progress can be updated. Will post on here when I have done it x

- Thank you so much guys. Angus has now created a page on the Notice Board for Tara's donations.
Click on Notice Board (in the menu on the top left of this page) and you will see Tara's Fundraiser where there is a direct link to the paypal account. It should say doglostfundraising at the top and then underneath, to the left of where you put the amount it says 'Description', you can add Tara's Fund here. Hope this makes sense :)
Jayne, hope I haven't confused the issue. Have now amended it on the earlier post to the link that Angus gave to me :) so sorry xxLast edited: 2011-09-11 19:57:53 by Jackalee (Kathryn) - Area Co-ordinator - Greater Manchester - 2011-09-11 19:42 Cats Galore Rescue

- 2011-09-11 18:22 Unknown
- Charlene. The amount you donate isn`t the issue (in my opinion). But the thought that you are helping an injured and defenceless animal to be nursed back to health. And every penny counts.

- someone has suggested Justgiving.com and to be honest a couple of people have offered to contribute. Looking into at the moment so any advice is more than welcome. Really want to help the family and if people are offering then we need to get something sorted. Every little helps. I'll have a look at tailwaggers too. Thanks tazmo007 :)x
- 2011-09-09 14:19 tazmo007
- not sure if you were referring to family struggling to pay vet costs below. If so, it would be worth getting in touch with tailwaggers - charity which raises money for individual cases. (if not, ignore this message). I wouldn't be surprised if some people here would be happy to chip in a little if needed. Even the price of a pint from a few people can all add up. But how could we organise that?
Poor little Tara, hope she does get some confidence back. Dogs are amazing and I really hope Tara can put this behind her. She has definitely got the best chance with such a loving family. - 2011-09-09 14:14 Deb4gsd
- Bless her, what a horrific thing to have to go through, I hope she manages to pull trough both physically and mentally xxx sick, sick people out there and it's happening more and more, just hope these sick monsters (being polite)are found and I would quite happily do to them what they did to poor Tara!!!! - Thanks Jackalee for posting the article link, just logging on quickly while in work. Below is what is in the new coverage:
The owners of a dog stabbed by sick thugs have pleaded for help in tracking down the attackers.
Tara, a 12-year-old Jack Russell-Alsatian cross, needed plastic surgery after being knifed in the Blackrod area of Bolton.
Owners George Way, 64, and his wife Maureen Way, 58, from Chadderton, Oldham, had left the dog with their daughter Vikki, 38, in Platt Bridge, Wigan, while they went on holiday.
Maureen said: “These people have got to be caught.
“Tara has been very badly affected. She is so nervous now with everyone and everything. I almost wish she had died than have been put through this.”
She said the vet had told her that she had never seen such horrendous injuries.

Jan just noticed that you managed to post via your phone. Hopefully you will be back online tomorrow :)Last edited: 2011-09-09 00:38:08 by Jackalee (Kathryn) - Area Co-ordinator - Greater Manchester - 2011-09-08 22:04 Jackalee (Kathryn) - Area Co-ordinator - Greater Manchester
- Spoke again to Maureen. She is doing a fantastic job in making people aware of what has happened, determined for it not to happen again. Tara is in tonights Manchester Evening News, tomorrows Wigan Observer, its been on the radio all day (not sure which station) and Maureen actually lives in Oldham so she is contacting the Oldham Chronicle tomorrow. Yesterday the police were not interested in making out a crime report for Tara but this morning Maureen had a call from a policewoman who wanted to visit and take a statement. She is a dog owner herself and is determined to try and find out more and is appealing for witnesses via the newspaper articles. Maureen is also contacting the dog warden in Wigan and the gentleman who found Tara.
Maureen wants Tara's story spreading, please all feel free to help. Tara was back at the vets this morning and it is thought that they may need to do another small op. She is back there on Monday but is starting to eat a little. She is obviously traumatised still and is flinching at the smallest thing, it was barbaric what happened to her so it is understandable. Unfortunately Tara isn't insured but the family are determined to do all they can, irrelevant of the cost but if anyone has any ideas that will help, please let me know. Sent Tara a big hug from all at DogLost, get well soon sweetie :) - 2011-09-08 21:24 Majorjet (Jan) - Area Co-ordinator - Liverpool/Merseyside, North West

Total round of applause of all helpers and those still looking for dogs. and love to Tara and family. Hope i didn't push things ahead too quickly, but glad they are taking an interest x

- I'm so sorry to hear what's happened to your beautiful Tara and hope that she makes a full and speedy recovery. There have been so many of our missing dogs who have ended up in similar circumstances i.e. Jess the border collie, two lovely lurchers (?) found hanging from a bridge and a Staffie or Staffie cross from the Hertfordshire area, I believe. Once again I can't recall the dogs name but believe he was tan-coloured and, sadly, I know there have been others. I'm pleased to hear the local press are interested in running a story which will hopefully be picked up the national newspapers or even a TV company who finally seem to be cottoning on to animal-related stories. The thing is, that it goes without saying, that if these vile low lifes can carry out such terrible and unbelieveable acts of cruelty, then they are capable of anything. Once again I wish Tara lots of love and a good recovery. Sending healing thoughts...xLast edited: 2011-09-08 11:48:21 by Millys Mum

- Just finished working and seen your comments tazmo007. Thanks for contacting the wigan Observer. When I spoke to Vicky (owners daughter) this morning I said I would ring her back tomorrow to give them some advice, as per Majorjet's post. The other 3 dogs named in SuzeeBee's post are all dogs that have gone to rainbow bridge recently, from different areas (Ripley and Diesel were together)and all 3 died in different but very cruel circumstances. My thoughts tonight are with Tara, hope she is feeling a little better tomorrow. We're all sending positive healing thoughts your way girl xxx

- Received a phonecall from Tara's family this morning, sad news I'm afraid. When the vet operated yesterday it was found that Tara's injuries had not been caused by an animal as was thought but stab / knife wounds. Tara's family are devastated and it is not known yet if she will pull through this. They have been in contact with the police and the vet has contacted the RSPCA. The family want this taken seriously to prevent this happening to other pets. If any one has any experience of anything similar or know of any organisation that could help let me know. The family are desperate for any advice they can get.
Sending big hugs Tara from all at DogLost - take it easy girl :)xxLast edited: 2011-09-07 11:40:27 by Jackalee (Kathryn) - Area Co-ordinator - Greater Manchester - 2011-09-06 16:29 Jackalee (Kathryn) - Area Co-ordinator - Greater Manchester

- Glad that Tara has been found. With so many Dog Homes existing I think it would make so much sense if doglost were to become THE National Missing Dog site so that all rescues, owners etc. knew where to look as their first point of call.

- Spoken to owner’s daughter who was actually looking after Tara while her parents were on holiday, they are back home now.
Tara is 11-12 years and got out of the house and ran off. The actual match that Jackalee made was the one in BL6, she was picked up in Parbold which is near Wigan and taken to Leigh Cats & Dog’s Home. Tara does have an injury which could be caused by being attacked by a fox or dog. She is going to the vet tomorrow to have surgery. While at the Leigh C&D Home she was CHIPPED which is great news.
Family are over the moon to get her back and will send us a REUNITED photo in the next few days. I’ve also asked them to let us know how she gets on in the vets. Good luck tomorrow Tara sweetheart. xxx - 2011-09-05 19:36 Unknown
