- Whoop whoop, lovely to see Hera back with her owner, well done to finder.
Welcome home Hera, now you can start to enjoy your new life, keep safe and be happy xxx - 2011-10-24 23:25 Neighbark
- Phew - This poor dog was on my mind all day - SO pleased she's been found safely, and wish the best possible 'quiet' life for her now. As for the b.....d who left her there, well - it beggars belief! As for all you amazing Doglost team and helpers....you deserve a knighthood and this should be in the papers! How about getting a small book printed - showing the top 10 dog commands - in Polish, Greek, etc. etc. etc. :-)Last edited: 2011-10-24 23:26:45 by Neighbark

- Just to clarify - that place was not a handover stop. The courier was supposed to deliver the dog to my friend's place in London. He stopped there on his way there and called my friend (who was in London) with the news about dog escaping and saying he is not going to wait/look for the dog - he drove off, leaving the lost dog behind.

- this is just brilliant news, i hope that this dogs can now learn to trust some one and live a long and happy life... i do wonder why hand overs take place in service stations and lay bys, when they can be such dangerous places if things to go wrong... stay safe now lovely girl..

- Brilliant news, one very lucky dog I would say considering the amount of traffic, the nearness of the motorway and the fast track rail link either side of the service station !!
Dog lost and Jane the Kent co-ordinator and everyone else involved were fantastic :) - 2011-10-24 16:28 Unknown
- So pleased that this girl has been found. Stay safe now Hera and have a great life in your forever homexxx

- Yes is great news isnt it!!
Ewa did phone me to confirm he is with her and thank me for help. From conversation i think i heard correct but courier has NOT been paid - which is great so no bonus for him either LOL
She sounds determined to track him down probably back in Poland. Luckily she recons will be able to get duplicate passport and papeps via her vets if he does not respond and return them to her.
Great news and special thanks to Sue and Lorna who have been locally searching around and of immense help to the owner. - 2011-10-24 16:00 anka
- onfirmed, Hera is in the car with Ewa driving home to her new brother and sister :)

- UPDATE
Someone just called my friend saying he got Hera.......My friend is waiting for the address and will be heading there right now.. she is driving from London though.... - 2011-10-24 13:16 anka
- Maggie - just spoke to my friend about that as I was concerned too but I was told that she has found that "courier" from an advert on the net herself and arranged the travel herself. Obviously not taking personal/car details was not a very wise move but I am not here to judge that< just trying to help Hera in the little way I can....

- Great work going on, she has been on my mind since last night, in work so cannot check for updates properly until home tonight.
Come on Hera we are all willing you to be with your new family. x - 2011-10-24 13:08 Maggie
- am i right in saying that hera was adpoted from Poland? if so wouldn't the people who organised her travel to here have the couriers car details? would of thought so for safty reasons
- 2011-10-24 13:03 anka
- Nope... we dont have that...
All we know that it was a white van...
Jane thanks so much for trying - I would have thought they keep chip details of the dogs coming over... learnt something today - 2011-10-24 12:54 CJ - Police Liaison & SE Regional Coordinator
- Lovely lady called Amanada phoned back but they needdeatils such as a name or registartion number in order to find deatils- that is what we do not have.
She is phoning a contact at Euro tunnel to see if they might have deatils and will let me know.
Chip number does not help as they dont keep record of it!! - 2011-10-24 12:47 KarenW
- Hi - I live in ME4 so about 10 mins from Maidstone. Let me know if you need another couple of pairs of hands tonight as me and OH are used to big dogs and could get there to help once I'm home from work - I usually get back by about 6 if that's any use, I could be at the services by half past ish or is that a bit too late?
- 2011-10-24 12:37 anka
- Jane - thanks a million... yes, they came via the tunnel, not the ferry...it was the night from Friday to Saturday so 21st to 22nd October.
They should be able to find his details just by Hera's chip number....Last edited: 2011-10-24 12:42:29 by anka - 2011-10-24 12:34 CJ - Police Liaison & SE Regional Coordinator
- spoken to a lady at border control although not her area she has taken deatils and will find outwhat she can and ring me back- i hope i was corrct in saying came over via tunne not ferry ?

- I will see what i can find out .
- 2011-10-24 12:20 anka
- "Courier" still not answering his UK or polish mobile.
Does anyone know what would be the number to call at immigration to get his full details?
When Hera was crossing the border, Folkstone I believe - they would have taken all driver's details including car reg number...
But - will they release it to the owner of the dog? - 2011-10-24 12:10 anka
- It is Lorna actually, sorry got the name wrong...

food will be best way but not too much. no challenging eye contact move slowley head down speaking softley.

- All set for meeting tonight . Kent doglover living the closest is going now to check on route to her horses. She will aslo be best as number to use if caught as can get there quickest and used to handling dogs as does rescue work as well. She is also trying to get a few helpers locally as well.

- A greek rescue dog was recently caught after someone posted the Greek word for 'come or come here' the dog stopped and allowed itself to be caught. So WHAT is the Polish word or command for 'come, sit stay' ? This command should be noted and learned by everyone directly involved in trying to find Hera.... It could make all the difference! What a magnificent dog, I do hope she can be caught and start a happy life in England.Last edited: 2011-10-24 00:43:25 by Neighbark

- Majorjet - thanks a lot for that,
I have a GS myself, my friend already has 2, Hera is her 3rd one, adopted from Poland. She was in a private run dog hotel for the past 6 months to complete her paperwork to enable her to travel here to my friend, her new home. Hera is a rescue dog.
Last six months she lived with several other GS in the dog hotel (not a shelter, home based fostering place that my friend paid for) but she does not know her new owner which of course NOW is a problem....
My friend will drive back there tomorrow evening, she has a child here and 2 other GS and nobody really to leave them with..
What a horrible situation...
She never met Hera, she adopted her without seeing her so hera does not know her as such, will not react to her voice...
I know exactly what you say about tem being one person's dogs... mine one is flat by my feet too...
Thanks again - 2011-10-23 23:43 Majorjet (Jan) - Area Co-ordinator - Liverpool/Merseyside, North West
- anka I've added to the details about her being chipped in POLAND. Great she is staying in one area, it is IMPORTANT no-one tries to catch her but gain her trust. Keeping everything crossed for her. I've had GSD's since 1980 and know how much they are a one man dog and very wary of strangers. x
- 2011-10-23 23:34 anka
- Just looked through insurance papers that my friend sent me via email - there is no chip number there :(
The courier who has all paperwork does not answer hi UK or Polish mobile....
Hera was chipped in Poland for her passport etc - I guess wherever she crossed the borde with the courier on Fri night should have her chip number?
Called vets in that area and also a lorry company who's drivers often stop there - all are going to keep an eye out for her.
Thanks everyone for all the help, looking, crossposting or just simply keeping yur fingers crossed for Hera....
- 2011-10-23 23:31 anka
- Majorjet - thanks a lot for that.
It is such a shame that when my friend called RSPCA they have flatly refused to help - despite having trained people AND suitable equipment for catching dogs...
Hera must be terrified.. will be her third night out alone.... :(

Could someone upload pls? Thanks a million.... - 2011-10-23 22:30 anka
- Hello,
I have posted another, better photos of hera on the Gumtree ad that I have put for her, if someone could upload it to here please that would be great.
Hera was seen again today around 5pm around the same place by a lady who called my friend and is trying to help - the lady is a dog behaviurist and will try to catch hera but hera does not want to come to anyone. She must be terrified poor thing.
She seems to stick around the place/spot where she run out of courier's car so the lady will try to call her into her car tomorrow early morning when it may be a bit quieter.
We are very worried about Hera being so close to the motorway but relieved she seems to stick around one place.
She may need to be caught into a cage but my friend could not find anyone/anywhere to borrow one of the trapping kind of cages - it does not help that my friend lives in London and Hera escaped in Maidestone.
MY friend had to go back home as she has a child and other 2 dogs at home but she is in tocuh with POlice who also saw Hera and the lady sho has offered her help.... My friend did not catch that lady's name - is she reads it here, big thanks to her for all the help.
All Hera's paperwork (pasport) is with the courier who now does not answer his phone, my friend will try to get the chip number from the insurance that she has bought for Hera here while the dog was still in POland - they should have a record of this.
Thank you all so much for all the help and cross posting everywhere.

- Copied from GUMTREE add:
Hera is a 2 yo rescue dog that was being transported from Poland to her new owner here in UK.
She escaped from the courier's van at around 1am at night from Friday to Saturday, she was last seen at the Services in Maidestone last night.
She is very scared, she was wearing a metal collar with black lead attached to it.
If you spot her or manage to catch her - pls give her frantic owner a ring on 07856179359 .
She is only used to Polish language, may not react to anyone calling her.. terribly difficult situation.
Vets in the area, lorry driver's companies, RSPCA and Police have been notified. Also posted on Dogs Lost, National Pets Register etc etc
Hera is microchipped.
Pls call her owner on 07856179359 if you have seen her. Owner lives in London, she spent a lot of time looking for Hera around Maidestone but had to travel back home to her kids and other dogs.
Please keep on eye out for Hera... - 2011-10-23 20:52 Maggie
