It would be so lovely if it were Poppy on this site and you could get her back. Dolly 6.2.05Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Poppy has a quite a bushy "fox" like tail - she probably is slightly more brown than the photo shows.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Does Poppy have a tail longer than a normal "border" tail? I ask because I spotted a terrier in the Triangle (burgess Hill) site today, Dog warden said it was an adult dog (I was looking for Daisy the 5-month-old BT) but also with an eye on the possibility of Poppy or Pip. It looked a bit like a border except for the tail though I did not get up close. It was quite dark red/borwn in colour. I don't know if the warden scanned the dog for a chip. julieLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Carolyn - try the Gypsy Liaison Officers for all the neighbouring council's instead of the police - they liaise between each other and will know where travellers are moving around.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Forgot to say that last Friday when my brother went to Southwick to investigate possible sighting of Poppy, he did go to Police station afterwards to ask whether they knew where the travellers had gone but the police said they didn't know! Apparently there was nothing on their computer even though I understand that the police sent the travellers on their way from Southwick on the Friday (29th) morning.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Yesterday spoke to man who called in regarding possible sighting of Poppy in Steyning High Street. He was going back to have another look in the evening (Friday) and if saw her again was going to phone my mother in Horsham. I'm not sure about this sighting because Poppy would tend to run about in the road and not be walking straight along the pavement!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi I'm Carolyn, the owners' daughter. My brother has called in at the Grange Industrial Estate, Southwick, this afternoon. There definitely was a dog running about there of Poppy's description the other day. She appeared to belong to some gypsies who were moved on this morning!!John is going to contact the police to try and find out where they went just in case the dog was Poppy.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Waiting for dog warden who covers that area to call me just in case she was picked up but not scanned (doubt this but you never know) and hoping our friendly policeman can help us find records for the local police station in case someone's rung her in with an odd description but not taken her anywhere to get her checked for a chip. Southwick is only 6 miles from where Poppy's owner was found: this is more than possible then! Am calling owner now... Poppy is chipped - so the chances are she may have been taken in by someone, who hasn't declared her found - the absence of her collar may just be that she perhaps got caught up and broke loose on her travels??? Ok Sussex helpers, Poppy's owners are going to need a lot of help here as they aren't able to search themselves. We're appealing for the person who gave Poppy and his owner some water to come forward so we can pinpoint a location. Apart from that there's the sighting in Ashington. It is likely that Poppy and owner went along footpaths rather than roads. NikLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

contact highways agency area 4 to find the managaing contractors for that area - they should all keep records of dogs found. They are also useful to keep an eye out. also National Switchboard Number is 08459 55 65 75 they will put you through top local office. Nikki xxxxxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Ok had a really long chat with owners daughter. It does seem like Poppy wasn't the animal found by the road, but a deer. Now, Poppy went out for a walk with her owner and her owner would normally have let Poppy off lead for a run. He was found some hours later confused and looking for Poppy. He wasn't clear on what had happened but did say that he'd asked someone for water for both himself and Poppy - that person has never come forward to identify themselves. It is not known where this was. He was missing Poppy, her lead and his own cap - what happened between meeting someone and asking for water and being found again? An article in the West Sussex County Times a week ago produced a sighting from someone in Ashington, saying a dog of Poppy's description was seen running that afternoon she went missing. It is possible that they were in that area, as it is en route. The place the owner was found was not in the area covered by the County Times -we really need to get more publicity for this, I think. Nikki I'm going to ask you to talk to the owners daughter to see if the Highways records can be sought - so far they haven't found anyone who can help with that so I think you'll be invaluable - the local council told them the Police have the reponsibility for picking up dead dogs! It seems to me either Poppy was physically taken from her owner or that she ran off and has been picked up - either way she must've been seen by someone, somewhere. Jayne/Rach a new pic is being posted to you, can we combine the two? It will show Poppy's distinctive bushy tail and body - she's so unusual I'm sure we can find her. Come on guys POSTER!!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Could this confused gentleman have given the dog away or had it taken away from him? Is he capable of walking 15 miles? What mode of transport is available in the miles covered. Bus stations - railway stations, have these been checked.. Did he perhaps get a lift and leave the dog in someones car?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
