Goldenfrodo
What a relied this boy is safely back homex
Well done to everyone who helped.
Gillian
Thanks for the lovely update. Whippet sounds quite a character. As an owner of two whippets myself I know how clever (and devious!) they can be! Think it's a great idea to put up Thank You posters - really sounds as though the local community all pulled together to help you get him back. I've seen Becka's photo of him lying on his duvet - he looks shattered, poor boy. So pleased it all ended happily xxxLast edited: 2011-11-06 08:24:24 by Gillian

This is brill news have been cross posting this boy like mad. Maybe if this boy is an escape artist would be worth investing in a tracking collar :-) xx

Well well Whippet all I can say is a massive thank you to all concerned in bringing this very elusive but also very clever boy home & what a tale we have to tell his owners when they return from hols on Thursday. A special thanks goes out to Tommy & Becca who both went beyond the call of duty on this one & also to mention all the other helpers who came out looking whether through Dog Lost or from seeing the posters & just wanting to help. The amount of phone calls too was amazing, Thursday afternoon was crazy when Whippet got himself onto Eastway then Pittman Way visiting Homeserve, Asda & the main Post Office truck yard, my phone went about 20 times in the hour. I want to post some pics of him but I can't suss it out just yet how too & the lack of sleep is catching up with me so I'm hitting the sack with Whippet at the foot of my bed on his quilt safe n sound - thanks again everyone!

Well done all, Tommy go get a good rest you deserve it girl. What a relief for Andy and Jan, may go for a sneeky peek today. Andy can put away the headache tablets now. We just knew the trap would work, although he is a very clever boy, may have been tired but always looking for an escape route when spotted. ps the locals were fantastic as well, none stop calls when spotted.

Is there any news on this little one, have been thinking about him all day, am happy to help tomorrow night if that's any good?
Emma Thompson
If you need a hand monitoring the trap over the weekend then let me know
Gillian
That's really good news. Could you put it just outside the gates? If there's nice tasty, smelly food in there he might just pop in to take a look before going through the gap!
mumstaxi
good news trap offered andy collecting today now to work out best place to put and how to monitor as school gates closed at the weekend only access is through the gap where whippet comes through via the fields at the back
mumstaxi
just received call from andy didny visit his house during the night but when he went up to school a lady had seen him going back down the path to the field where hes been hiding so clever little fella found his way back and has eaten dry food at back of school hopefully can get trap sorted i thing thats the only way we are going to catch
mumstaxi

Witchy-poos
Thanks Helen - I'll let Andy know. I've just been down & there are a lot of sightings being called in which is fabulous - enough this morning that he could be tracked. He's been settled in a field twice this morning but we couldn't get anywhere near as he spooks so easily - as soon as anyone gets within sight he's off. I took a lovely calm lurcher boy down today to see if we could put him more at ease & he was very interested but still spooked & ran. He is at the moment staying in the immediate area but he's 7 days out now so we're in danger of him moving on. Carer is doing everything possible to get him back but he's a very frightened boy.
millyandmegwhippet
Hi, have seen your request for help via the post on Scruples' facebook page. I live in Preston and am able to help with watching the trap. I sent my mobile number to the contact number on doglost yesterday so you should be able to contact me. Please let me know if I can help.
Helen

I know where we can get a trap, we've borrowed it before BUT it can't be left unattended so we need day & night watchers 24/7, not easy. I am following the updates but I've been too busy to get down & help search - I have driven past & stopped to have a look a few times when I've had a spare half hour. I will nip down for an hour or so shortly & see if I can help. We need to get this boy in & I'm trying to rally helpers but not come up with any yet.
shell
Hi Any New on this boy. Poor little one must be so scared out of his wits but i think he so wants to trust of he would not keep coming back. fingers crossed and will ask about traps for you x
Gillian
Where have you tried to get a trap from? Someone on my Facebook page has suggested a gamekeeper (don't know if there are any up your way) or someone from pest control who may have a fox trap? Have you tried the dog warden or the RSPCA?Last edited: 2011-11-02 22:12:10 by Gillian
Gillian
I've posted on my Facebook page to see if anyone in the Preston area has a trap or knows where to get one - I have a few Friends up that way. Really hope you can get one from somewhere x
mumstaxi
struggling for a trap, thank you to everybody that came to help today, this little dog is so very very scared i waited on the school tonight jan and andy nipped to shop, whippet came from the fileds and round the corner to his food source i approached very slowly and park my cark across the opening there was small gap to the left and me on the right, whippett came towards me moved to the left so did i then just as quick he moved to the right i did manage to touch him but a couple of inches short of his collar, he disappeared ino the woods,15 mins later he came out and tuned away from the direction of the food source went down to the hill and under the school gates, but i didnt realise gates had been locked so reversed to the other exit and lost sight of him, i could really kick myself we are all trying so hard to catch him but he is as i say very nervous and skittish doesnt seem to trust many people. its quite upsetting knowing hes out there on his own in this wether and bonfire night is closing in he is minutes away from the motorway any advise anyone? PLEASE PLEASE WE NEED A TRAP thank you
Whippetlover
Can anybody from Dogs Lost lend a trap or know somebody that can lend a trap?
rachelhayball
Have you tried the old BBQ trick? Sometimes nervy (and hungry) dogs will approach if there are interesting smells about. Also does he tend to approach other dogs? You could try walking round with another dog.

Try local pest control companies for a trap. Good luck and please shout if our local volunteers can help in anyway. scruplesteam@yahoo.co.uk x
Gillian
I don't know much about trapping lost dogs but it does sound as though it would work with Whippet as he seems to be hanging about in the same area and spotted quite a lot. Hope you get some success with securing one and capture him soon x
mumstaxi
hi everyone, nothinbg at all last night after i left had 4 volunteers contact me, this morning got a text from any (carer) at 5.30 yes a.m. whippet twice been up the drive of the house then ran back into the private school. went to fulwood road around 10 and jan (carer with andy) just walking back from the school , sighted again, then andy a volunteer and jan went to look for him and jan spotted him curled up fast asleep she got within a couple of fett then he spotted andy and ran off again back to the school he seems to be sleeping in a dip in the field.been securing the garden at jan and andy when he hopefully comes back again. jan the volunteer looks very similar to the whippetts owners wife, i left 12.30 and jan going out again to try again with him. have laid a chicken trail from the school to the house about 100-150 feet away hes so very near yet so far he absolutely scared.waiting confirmation on a trap but im getting very worried with bonfire night approaching, going back today around 4pm jan and andy do a brilliant job
Gillian
Just be careful that too many people looking don't freak Whippet out even more! Have you found out any more about a trap? Good luck and hope he's back home with you soon
rachelhayball
After seeing the post on facebook asking for help, we have posted it on our (scruples whippet rescue) wall. It looks like some people who can come out and help
Goldenfrodo
Thanks mumstaxi for your help.
Come on Whippet let yourself be caught.
Have bumped due to the sightings.
Keeping fingers tightly crossed he's home soon.
mumstaxi
everyones been out again today andy (carer)got a call from school with sighting of whippet today and also whippet been up andys drive but escaped again(quite large garden) we think he ate overnight or this morning as food dish empty but a cat has been seen close to his food supply. for the past few days andy has had several reported sightings of whippett but the last one was about 10-11 this morning and there has been nothing since. this seems unusual for whippet had established a pattern and the last sighting was under the motorway bridge on blubell way heading towards red scar and then nothing. i asked for volunteers on fb in the area who come help search and 4 people have offered which is great so we have seven now. sadly whippet is very skittish and running very very scared so catching him is going to be difficult we need a confined area, and possible a trap is the way to go, i am looking into this now. he is very very close to the motorway and bonfire night is closing in. poor andy has today been walking round with liver and other smells smeared onto his trousers in the hope that whippet will pick this up so fingers crossed we get him home very soon
mumstaxi
went out again this morning got call from andy whippet just been back to the house but escaped through hedging passed andy and myself and back through bushes into the field he was seen in yesterday hopefully he will go back home again today fingers crossed very sensible whippet he seems to be staying away from the noise and traffic. really do hope he goes back again today, food out for him and his bed so hoping xxxxxxx

Whippet (also his name) has been sighted 3 times today on Fulwood Row, then the field that goes behind Sandybrook Close towards the motorway, then I got to within about 30 yards of him in the fields across from Norman Jepson where the kids ride their motorcross bikes. Lost sight though so another night out for Whippet, at least he is trying to stay in the area even though he is not familiar apart from one walk he had around those fields. Thanks for all the help so far.Last edited: 2011-10-30 19:55:15 by smithy

I'm on Rose Lea so can help look. Just been out with my dog for a good hour, round all the fields/woods round Fernyhalgh Lane/fulwood row area. Will definitely keep looking out for him. Just to let you know though, the poster on the gate at the end of fulwood row has been tied round the post and gate so it now won't open, tried to get it off and fix it myself but wasn't able to. Hope he turns up soon

Is there any chance of being more specific on where the dog is missing from?
I shall keep my eyes peeled anyway but I am happy to go out looking if I know whereabouts to look.
