Owners, I am so very sorry to hear this. Please know Ruby would not have suffered - she would have been knocked unconcious and not felt anything. Sometimes it seems, God has to take the special ones back quicker than we would like, but he makes sure they don't suffer. Ruby is now safe in the arms of God until you are reunited again. THE RAINBOW BRIDGE POEM

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Just had a call from a local vets and Ruby has been found this morning at the side of the road. She had been knocked over and died. Thank you everyone for all your help.

Anne and J MO thanks for posting an update. Anne great you have been alerted to a possible sighting shows people are looking out for her, hope this is a breakthrough to more news.

I will alert the Knowsley Dog Warden, found dogs in Knowsley are taken to Halewood RSPCA who are aware of Ruby, I will also alert them to the one possibly sighted in Kirkby.

Anne, Kirkby is under Knowsley Council so please contact their Dog Warden and find out where they take their stray dogs to and contact that rescue centre. Whereabouts in Kirkby is the possible sighting?

A message has been past on from a local shop keeper that Ruby may have been seen in Kirkby a day or so ago. Not been informed if she was on her own or with a person. We will be out round Kirkby with Posters/Leaflets and eyes wide open.

Forwarded Ruby's details to the Champion newspaper. Spoken to owner and give them the number for West Lancs Dog Warden as Melling not too far away. Advised to leaflet drop the houses where she was last seen. I will go home different ways and poster round and about.

Spoken to Ruby's elderly owner today who is obviously upset and missing her so much. Have gone through some more things and stressed the importance of getting her in the paper a.s.a.p. I've contacted helper J MO who lives not too far and will be contacting family to offer some help getting something in the paper. J MO is a star and does so much we cannot thank you enough.

We just need that most important phone call. xxx

DW in the area was alerted to Ruby going missing by her family straight away. I've gone through some other things to do and advised they go through the email which I sent 3.11.11. Would be great if they could get Ruby in any papers, The Champion are very good at covering stories missing dogs. x

Family have just got back from MDH, they were taken all around the kennels and the rehoming block there was no Dachshund's in there. :( x

I went to harper hay dogs home today and I saw her poster when I was looking at the dogs for my girl so I went into the fostering dogs and I am almost positive that I saw your girl there the dogs home is in Manchester I really think it is worth checking could you please tell the owners and get back to me please I really think it is her she even had a purple collar like yours. You would need to get there soon as she is such a beautiful girl and she will get sold quick and she's up for fostering. I'm sorry if it is not her but I really would advise going and seeing her. :D xx "

I've just spoken to Halewood RSPCA, she has not been handed in yet, owner has been in touch with them.

I am in work at the moment but will follow up later when home. The main two kennels to try are Halewood RSPCA and Leigh Cats & Dogs Home. x
