What a handsome boy, so sad that he is still missing. I know it says he was a mastiff cross but could the poor boy named Ben (54463) possibly have been Murphy? I truly hope not and would hope that Murphy is still with us.x

I was hoping Murphy would be bumped today. Good luck Carol hope he comes home soon.xx
pixies peeps
There are closeup pictures of the Middlesbrough one on the facebook page for that sighted dog. Carol has posted on doglostcentral fb that she has seen these photos and this dog is not murphy as the ears are not the same
BBKM
Keeping everything crossed that this dog is Murphy. I have been looking at the FB dog, they are very, very similar. I have zoomed in and the FB dog does have a tiny white marking high up on his chest. Good luck x

I have just been reading the circumstances of this FB dog and he has been in that area since Christmas 2011. There have been many reported sightings to the Police and Dog Warden yet he is still living rough. I hope that people do not rush to his area now, we need professionals to catch him with cage. Well done to the person feeding him and Save our Strays, a small charity who are trying to help get this dog safely caught. Poor poor boy, praying this lad is safe soon x

biscit
have you been able to view that mastiff that was found in earl shilton
carol
no this dog has not been found yet
biscit
has this dog been found seems to have suddenly gone very quiet on here
biscit
the people might move the dog on you are entitled to go to the door and ask them to view the dog if they dont allow you report them

biscit
thelaw says If the dog stays with the finder it has to be kept for at least 28 days. If during this time, the owners turn up they can claim the dog back. They may or may not have to pay a release fee or fine to the council, but you will not be legally entitled to demand any payment towards food, keep or veterinary costs you may have incurred and you will have to give them the dog back. If they do not turn up within 28 days, the Dog Wardens will allow you to keep the dog but under this system it will not become your property. If the original owners turn up after this time you may be be obliged to pass the dog back to them and they may take legal action to force you, and seek compensation, if you refuse .
carol

The concerned van driver who I met at the beginning of December to show us where he had ran out in front of him rang me this afternoon to enquire if Murphy had been found. By coincidence he works on the Industrial Estate where the last sighting was but had heard or seen nothing himself lately but promised to keep an eye and ear open. Murphy where are you?
Julie
Doing everything I can from a distance but so wish it could be more. Checking in every day Murphy - please come home.
Ellie
Murphy is featured in this months Welland Valley Feeds newsletter. Hope it brings some news of fresh sightings
Ellie
Please everyone everywhere please poster and highlight by Facebook contacts in case Murphy has been taken out of the area. His owner is desperate to have him home
Ellie
Carol immediately followed this up but the dog in question has been claimed by his owners

Have had a good look around this morning from Foxton to Great Bowden down to Parkers. Didnt see anything, was suprised how close the recent sightings were to Great Bowden, literally down the road. Wish we new which road he took next!
Ellie
Visited Parkers today and spoke to the man who had seen Murphy two weeks previously. Like everyone else whom I have spoken to with sightings had no hesitation in saying it was him when I showed him a poster. This was 6.00pm and the dog sat watching him for sometime before going away. I have left a Doglost card with him and put a poster up outside. Also put posters up at Welland Valley Feeds and at the entrance to the dog designated walking area at the park in Market Harborough. Noticed there is one already at vets. Hopefully we will get news of more up to date sightings.
carol
murphy please give us a sighting so adrian can put is trail cam and get you on it so we can see if it is you murphy it is time you came home we all love amd miss you
carol
done a load of ringing around again today but with know luck i hope we get some news soon wish you would show yourself murphy we want you home
Ellie
Carol has now had quite a few calls mainly sightings a couple of weeks ago so feel fairly reassured he is staying in the area. One sighting was at 5 am so it would seem he is living feral. He is still described as limping. Advised early morning people to be alerted i.e. milkmen, taxi drivers etc. Security men at the industrial estate would be invaluable especially if they got a sighting and could close gates.
As soon as I can drive again after having my stitches out I shall go over and reposter and search again.
NickyJ
Carol I'm following your search from a far as many people are I'm sure. All I can say is stay strong, you are doing all you can, so many people are looking out for him as well. Hope you get some more news soon. Nx

Really hope this is Murphey and he is still in the same area and safe. So many people I know have been asking about him. Wish I could help with new posters but been given redundancy notice and can't do the petrol at the moment. Keeping everything crossed for Murphey and his lovely smile. x
Jennypenny
Just looked on the net, is it Parkers on Rockingham rd? Which is not far from Gt Bowden, great news if he is still in the area, fingers crossed x
Jennypenny
Hi, where is Pakers? I've not heard of them, is that a spelling mistake? Good news if there has been a recent sighting.
carol

Phoenix57
I hope he is home very soon, especially as we recently lost our bullmastiff to ill health, but have the local councils been checked in case he has had an accident on the roads? Fingers crossed for you x

Good luck with the Harborough paper today hope you get that all important call. you probably do already but there are a few mastiffs on animal warden website you might want to check. Ellie
It is a month today since we had the last sighting of Murphy which was in Great Bowden. I have altered his poster to STILL MISSING so that all old posters can be replaced, a lot of them are now blown away or unable to read.
Murphy could be anywhere now so we are widening our search and any help postering etc would be gratefully appreciated.

Have you tried contacting Leicester Animal Rescue in Billesdon if it looks like he has headed up that way? www.leicesteranimalrescue.co.uk

I feel that we should view the big cat sighting with an open mind and try to follow this up by contacting Nigel at the Leicester and Rutland Panther watch. I cannot dismiss big cats as I have myself seen one but this is a coincidence in the place where Murphy has been seen previously as people can be mistaken in what they think they see.
The local Rambling Group is doing a 10 mile walk on the 17th from the McDonalds Roundabout via Great Bowden towards the Langtons and also "reccying" it this week, I have asked the walk leader to ring me immediately should a sighting of Murphy occur.
Raisen
Article in paper ref big cat sighting, after seeing big cat girl followed trail and found foot prints and droppings that had fur in them, so if she is not positive if it was a cat it could have been Murphy.Worth a try to try and contact her and ask the question

Guys, been thinking about this - and judging by the direction Murphy was last seen heading id get in touch with Corby and Desborough/Kettering Dog Wardens and council to see if he has been picked up - also - there is a traveller sight at Braybrook which is out that way too - it may fall into a different TLO area - im not sure?? Ive not a clue who to contact - Ive been taking drive outs to Great Bowden area when i can and have seen nothing :( - everything is still crossed
Raisen
Hoping and praying that Murphy is seen again soon
Julie
As there haven't been any sightings reported for a few days is it worth contacting the travelers liaison officer to see if he is at one of the camps? Please show yourself Murphey - so many people are willing you to come home.

Thinking of you Carol and the rest of Murpheys family and friends. xxx
carol
i dont know why it didnt go in the harborough mail has ive paid for it to go in i dont know where murphy has gone has there has been no more sightings in market harborough or great bowden wish he would come home miss him so much

carol
yes come on murphy give us a clue getting really worried now not knowing where you have gone come on home xxxxxx
Snowdrop
Murphy please give us a clue xxx
Ellie
Callie if you are going into Welland Valley Feeds that would be great if you take a poster - they are brilliant and always have DogLost cards and mention us in their newsletters.
Murphy has clearly moved on we need a new sighting to take action on immediately when it does as at the moment we have no clue as to which way he is now heading. Stay safe Murphy until you give us a chance to catch up with you.
Callie
Ellie - have you asked Welland Valley Feeds if you can put a poster on their website or in their free mag? Dont know if they charge but if you ring them ask to speak to Kerry - shes the boss! Ill take a poster down later and put it on their board.
carol
murphy please show yourself

Ellie
Harborough Mail and local radio station contacted but we have no current sightings of Murphy.
Callie
Ellie - did text Gina but managed to get on here too lol
If you are contacting the Harborough Mail - may well also be worth trying Harborough FM - its the community radio station for the town but it goes right out to corby, northampton (just about) and the local area - would be worth asking them if they could put a report out two or three times during the day?
Julie
Wish i could help guys but working late every day till xmas. Keeping everything crossed and please come home Murpey xxx
Ellie
Good idea Jennypenny I will get straight onto that first thing in the morning.
Jennypenny
Ellie/carol would it be possible to try and get in touch with the Harborough Mail the local newspaper. The paper is issued on a Thursday, be great if we could get something in there this week. With all off Callies hard work postering and spreading the word as well as getting it in the paper we surly will get some more sightingsLast edited: 2011-12-18 08:34:42 by Jennypenny
Callie
A lady at Pears told Ellie that he was there on Sunday last week but not since.
Callie
On 16th we met up with Snowdrop and Ellie at Great Bowden - 7pm - we searched along the Dingley Road heading out of the village as there was a definate sighting of a dog matching description on Monday night - we drove out to the village of Dingley and doubled back via Sutton Bassett - no sign - haave left a poster at the pub in Sutton Basset - and also at the Dominoes pizza shop and Tescos Express on the outskirts of Harborough. We also managed to speak to the station master at the station who has taken a poster and promised to make sure his staff are aware - especially thosse working at night as they get quite a lot of strays, foxes etc around the waste ground at the back of the station. I also put in a call to Forest Gate Kennels (they deal with dog found by the Corby DW) - just because when last seen was heading away from Harborough towards Corby therefore into their duristriction (sp) - they have not seen or had reports of a mastiff - but are now aware and will call if he is picked up in their neck of the woods.
carol
got a message of one of the men at jg pears this morning and he hasnt seen the dog for 10 days but said one of the drivers has seen him round market harborough so i sent him a message back and asked him to ask the driver where abouts in market harborough did he see the dog so i know where to go and look just waiting to hear from him every one says the dog is murphy

Those that are able to search tonight are meeting at the Green at Bowden 6.30 to 7. Snowdrop and I have walked from Great Bowden over the fields and canal path to JG Pears and back again today but no sightings. He has not been seen at JG Pears since Sunday.
Callie
Have just put A5 posters through the doors of all the houses facing onto The Green. We also put through the doors along the Dingley Road. Spoke to various people who are more than willing to keep eyes open - and are happy to contact if seen. Took a drive down the full length of the Weldon Lane, spoke to people we saw walking their dogs -no sightings :( - will try and get down to the village again tonight - can someone let me know what sort of time?
Jennypenny
Good luck today ladies! Sorry I can't help tonight, maybe worth popping back up to JP pears if he isn't about this evening in Great Bowden. Hoping for some more sightings to come in. Fantasic team of people there last night with fab ideas, so good chance of getting Murphy once seen. Julie has my number now if anyone needs it but I am limited when I can come as have a baby, but I am local so worth asking me. Hope to hear a postive update soon X
B30
Sorry guys that there were no sightings last night but thanks to everyone who is searching.

Callie
Will sort out flyers for tomorrow and deliver after 2, as well as doing a drive round to see if we can spot any signs. May be worth spreading the net to see if he has been picked up by DW in Northamptonshire as if he continued in the direction he was last seen headed he would be over the border pretty quickly?! Worth a shot anyways :) See you tomoz

Thanks bazil - no sightings im afraid! Huge thanks to everyone who turned up tonight plans now set for tomorrow! Interestingly we spoke to a lady who had seen the dog on monday and when shown the doglost poster she pointed to murphys new picture and said it was him and hes huge!
BBKM
Keep checking here, everything crossed this boy is caught tonight..going to be difficult with him being so scared poor boy. Good luck x
Ellie
Good luck tonight everyone, sorry I will not be with you as I am attending my boys xmas party but I will have my mobile with me to ring if I hear of any sightings during the evening. The last known sighting was The Headlands, just off the Great Bowden Road. He is still covering a large area at speed so cannot send you in any one place. Remember he is extremely scared so will not come to you, if possible coax him into a secure area i.e. garden much you would if you had a loose horse on the road that you do not want to panic further. Then contact the DW and owner. Above all do not put him or yourselves in danger.
Snowdrop
Ive printed posters, all ready! We have got a Jrt in season a long line, night vision bins and a trap!! come on Murphy please show tonight!
Jennypenny
Yes 7pm, more helpers to catch the more chance we have. I will bring my JRT and long line again although she is coming to the end of her season she might get near him if we can't. If someone could print some posters out, I can bring some plastic wallets and we could put some posters out and write on them, recent sightings here? I have got a night vision binocular but the range isn't very good, but have a small torch that is very bright which may be more useful, I will bring both. Please Murphy show yourself tonight
Snowdrop
Jennypenny have just checked with Ellie, after the last sighting he headed of towards Great Bowden Road this was about 6.30 xx
Snowdrop
Im still available for tonight will be there about seven as jennypenny suggested. Julie you have got the right area, did you see my car detailss previusly? Ellie has also got my mobile number. I will be there tonight Julie your help is much appreciated! xxx
Julie
Just looked at google earth and if the village green is the triangular bit of grass opp the shoulder off mutton it is quite a small area with relatively few exits off. I'm happy to park my car at one of them and wait for the evening. Dark green focus estate. Will check email before I leave in case I'm in the wrong area and Ellie has my mobile if nec. Weather for cast for next few days is v cold so really hope we get him. x
Julie
Am free for next 3 evenings if you need help searching. Will leave trap in car just in case.
Jennypenny
I did have a drive round Gt Bowden about 11.30ish today but he wasn't about. Do we know what direction he is going when he leaves the green in Great Bowden? Could it be asked if any more sightings, to see if it's random or he seems to be going the same way. Hopefully he will appear tomorrow evening. Very hopeful has he has been seen there every evening.
Ellie
Gentleman who saw the dog last night has just rang and was sure it was a mastiff who was looking thin and with a slight limp. Julie will let you know if we need your trap, many thanks.Last edited: 2011-12-14 21:03:33 by Ellie

Sorry I can't help but really hope he is caught soon xxx
Julie
Dog crate now in coventry. Haven't been able to make it automatic so needs 2 people - 1 to pull and hold the door closed once he's in and 1 to then latch it securely shut. It has an 'extension' which looks a bit rough and ready but means to reach anything at the back of the crate even a dog as large as Murphey would be well inside the door.
Ellie
Thank you everyone for all your hard work searching, etc. There was another unconfirmed sighting in Great Bowden again last night, trying to find a more detailed description of the dog from caller. Hinckley Times has an article about him in this week. New picture added to show his size a little better.
Julie
Will bring my big dog crate back from Solihull tomorrow as I'm working there. Will try to adapt it to an automatic trap but think that might not be possible. Either way it will be in Coventry from tomorrow and I can bring it to the area any evening.
Jennypenny
Thursday is fine with me, was thinking around 7pm. Ive got to go into Harborough tomorrow so whilst there I will have a drive round Gt Bowden in hope his about. Will keep checking on here, hoping for more sightings. Really hope someone catches him soon x
Snowdrop
Hi not going to go tonight, thankyou so much for the offer, will go Thursday. If you are free company would be good! And yes i agree with the posters xxLast edited: 2011-12-13 18:44:53 by Snowdrop
Jennypenny
Hi snowdrop, if you plan to go for a search this evening. I think I could pop down if you need the help. Or I might be free Thursday evening. Really need to get some poster up and about the Village. X
Snowdrop
No sightings im afraid, we walked along the canal footpath from Great Bowden to JP Pears where there is a hole in the fence to where the food supply there is. All along were large fresh foot prints. Here a lady worker had seen him clearly on Sunday night as he stood and looked at her she said she was definate it was Murphy from his picture but extremely dirty, he has a huge head and comes up to the middle of your thigh. We then carried on along the canal to the fields opposite Mcdonalds where someone else saw him last week. Searched derelict building but not there. Now we know exactly where his route is and ive got a great idea where to set a trap. Have just given Ellie details of this place. Thanks Jennypenny for meeting me we had a lovely walk aswell xxx
DogLostJayne - Founder Doglost.
Good luck with the search everyone....
Ellie
There is the possibility of a 2nd loose dog in that area and we are doing our best to help both dogs. One is a fawn mastiff as first spotted on 19th November that everyone is sure was Murphy (remember no posters there at this stage) and the other that is periodically described as a "large brown dog".
Unknown
All the best for tomorrow, sorry I cannot help but hope it all goes well. Liz xx
Jennypenny
Will do! Just hope Murphy shows himself.
Raisen
Do hope that you are able to catch him tomorrow.Good luck

I agree Murphy, definitely time to come home. Good luck tomorrow.

Had to give up search as driving rain, didnt see anything. Spoke to a policeman who had calls at three thirty this afternoon of brown limping mastiff at Great Bowden village green. But had gone by the time he got there. Sorry late giving you time for tomorrow Jennypenny! Will meet you at 10.30 at Great Bowden Village green near the shoulder and mutton if ok?. xxLast edited: 2011-12-13 18:34:53 by Snowdrop
Julie
V glad he is back in the usual area. Will fetch trap tomorrow and test my ideas. Don't think it can be made as an automatic trap tho - would probably need someone to pull and hold the door shut until it could be latched. Will give it a lot of thought tho. Could travel and fetch a trap on friday if one available. Also would it be possible to try to keep him in the area by using the scent from bitches in season as well as food and scent from owner? x
Jennypenny
Fingers crossed you catch him tonight! Good news your still getting sightings. I was in Great Bowden this am and didnt see him. Snowdrop please let me know where you would like me to meet you tomorrow and confirm time. I am available all morning till 12.30/1pm.
Snowdrop
Going to Great Bowden now xx
Ellie
Sorry!! He is back in Great Bowden. As Carol doesnot drive it is proving difficult to get a trap so if you are still ok to adapt your cage it could be very useful if we can tie him down to one area again.
Julie
Which village is it Ellie?
Ellie
Lady has rang me and has been trying her hardest to catch him with garlic sausage and tempting him to her but he is having none of it. Carol is now aware and advised her to get there. Her friend is already there searching again. DW is also on his way.
If he is not caught this evening then I suggest any searches that some of you had planned for tomorrow take place in that village.Last edited: 2011-12-12 17:35:35 by Ellie

Sighting just phoned in but cannot get hold of owner...have given sighter Ellie our co ordinators number for the area.
Snowdrop
Thankyou Jennypenny thats great :) was thinking about 10.30 but will post again tomorrow with details now he may have moved to another area - will wait and see if we have any more news tonight!
Ellie
Carol has been searching all day with no sightings and food remains untouched from Thursday night. In the last few minutes I have just had a call from the out of hours DW with reports of a large dog with a black face who was just sitting on the Brampton Valley Way, MH, this is now on the Northants side. Unfortunately, his own dog ran up to him and scared him away. Anyone in that area please keep a look out.
Ellie
This is a nightmare - by the time Carol got to her car very late last night, Murphy had once again evading capture by two ladies and disappeared again. He is clearly fending for himself very well and has no intention of handing himself in, what with usually moving under the cover of darkness makes it so hard. Just when we thought we had tracked his movements he goes somewhere else, I wonder if he can rejoin the canal from where he went? Am going to ring the Hunt Kennels as suggested. Will get back to you about the trp Julie if we can narrow down his track again.
carol
going to go to great bowden this morning has thats where murphy was seen last night going up dingly road and ran of up wellham lane so going to see if we can see any sightings just rang the out of hours dw to let them know he didnt get court thats night
Jennypenny
Hi Snowdrop, I could help you Tues am. Usually ride then, but i am happy to help instead. Not sure which bit of the canal, but some where it passes by the travellers site so would be better not to be on your own. But I will find out exactly. If there are some more sighting in Great Bowden, it would be worth ring the Fernie Hunt Kennels as they are in Great Bowden. The smell of the kennels/ food might draw murphy there. They also take the hounds out on foot excerise up Welland lane from Great Bowden, so would be lots of doggy smells round there. Is Murphy good with other dogs? Does he often approach dogs on a walk or keep away from them. Just wondering if I should bring one of my bitches on Tues, would it help or not?
Snowdrop
Have just been speaking to Ellie - if Murphy is not home by Tuesday morning I am going to search the canal path from JG PEARS to Great Bowden if any one is able to help me that would be great. Also able to watch any trap we get next week or collect if needed xxx
Julie
Please don't worry about the distance or the dark/cold etc - I've been working outdoors for 20+ yrs and driven more miles than I can think of. Don't know if it could be adapted but I do have a large enough crate (big enough for my 56kg mountain dog)but it would need to be adapted somehow to be a trap. If you don't find a trap by Sunday evening let me know and I'll collect from a friend in Solihull on Monday and also try to sort the adaptation - have already got some ideas. Murphey so many people would have the best Christmas if you would please come home.
Ellie
Thanks for your offer of help Julie, its an awful long way for you to come in the dark and cold - I am not sure if Carol is going back tonight as she has been searching all day.(No sightings) Still trying to find a suitable trap without having to travel too far.
Julie
Can help tonight if needed. Also have got an old sleeping bag that my friends bitch in season slept on all night and today so could bring that with me. Let me know if you want me - travelling from coventry so give me at least an hour ahead of possible arrival of Murphey.
Ellie
Thank you everyone. You will no doubt realise that Carol and I had been in contact all evening feeling very fraut with reports coming in thick and fast no doubt due to posters and publicity but living at least 15 miles away we just could not do anything about it. Jennypenny I think you may have pieced together my missing piece of the jigsaw of his triangle, I assumed the canal just a natural barrier and did not realise he could get to JG Pears along there. Going to spend the day hurrying along theb DW with the trap so we can get in front of him this time.
Raisen
I have put a message on my facebook page just in case any of my friends live out that way. Hope he is home soon
Jennypenny
Hi, I've been following this on dog lost. I am thinking that from the sightings that he might be using the canal path to be traveling. The canal runs past Foxton, again by JP Pears and again leads to Gt Bowden and may run along the school at Harborough (not sure which school is was) I am not far from Harborough and grew up there, so know the area well and ride a horse kept near Foxton two days a week. If you need me to help, just shout. (plus my JRT is in season)
mrsp2000
I was trying to work out where he is hiding during the day as jg pears is so noisy. The farmers sheep field are so well fenced in, so he must be coming from the nursery/mcd direction. There was no dog poops across the sheep fields, although there was a few around the nursery side (not sure if relevant but desperate for clues) there were quite a few gunshots today so that might explain him moving on if he doesn't like fireworks. I can come out again next week, sorry I can't help tonight, Im an hour away.
Ellie
Now in Great Bowden village - is there anyone near there to help? Carol and myself over 30 minute journey away
Ellie
He wasnt able to contain him but I believe Carol has a friend out searching now and I have let the out of hours DW know. Please hand yourself in soon Murphy, we shall all soon be nervous wrecks. This trap MUST be sorted this weekend.
carol
just had a call from a man in market harborough saying hes seen murphy on the ridgeway market harborough and gone toward great bowden road
mrsp2000
Sorry no sightings, tried down to Foxton and by the nursery.
Ellie
Dog Warden is going to get the trap from the RSPCA today, hopefully if it is the right size and then see where we go from there I feel, thank you everyone for offers of help I will keep you all informed as to what is the best thing to do.
B30
I hope you manage to get a trap sorted soon. Murphy certainly seems to like coming to this place.
Julie
Ellie - would it be any help to put my friends bitch thats in season in the trap to help lure him in? I'm working near Birmingham today but should be back in Coventry by mid-late afternoon and can collect her then and bring her down to meet you.
mrsp2000
Thank you Ellie, I think it will prob be best not to go with all our dogs in case we all frighten him, so I will go with just mine at little later than planned.
PaulaK
Watching and waiting, come on Murph!
Ellie
Just back from meeting Carol at JG Pears. About half an hour before I got there she did have a sighting of the dog who ran past at speed, he did turn his head when she spoke his name but disappeared. The food from the previous night had gone and we agreed that where she had put his bowl and his bed was a suitable place to put a trap which I am organising.
mrsp2000 if you go out searching we think the best thing would be to park in their car park and you will see a footpath sign going off to the left, that is where he went this evening. Anyone else available to help would probably be best to sit and cover that area down to McDonalds or walk across the fields towards Foxton.
Unknown
Just checking on Murphy. Hope he is reunited soon.
carol
going over to market harborough about 6.30 to sit at JG pears and hope murphy shows his self tonight thank you every one for helping me to get murphy back the man i spoke to said that he is 100 per cent sure the dog is murphy i really hope he is ive not heard of any one else missing a dog in market harborough so please murphy lets get you home
mandym
Good luck all!!! I hope Murphy is home soon...
mrsp2000
I have time tomorrow to search during the day with two of my friends from about 10.30am (We all have dogs to bring too if it would help). If you would like us to look for Murphy, where would you like us to search?
Ellie
Thank you so much for your remarks Beanie 245 and indeed everyone its things like this that keep us dog owning people keep going through difficult times and offer support to others - wish you could find Tucker, really do. I promised to help at the dog club puppy party tomorrow tonight but hopefully I can leave about 7.30 and spend a couple of hours watching and waiting at the site where Murphy goes. Well done Carol following all our instructions, I can only imagine how exhausted you must feel.
carol

Ellie
We have now found out that Murphy has been visiting JG Pears on a regular basis for the last 3 weeks feeding on the bones etc. that are dumped there to be processed. They think he has been resting up there too. Carol has been over again this morning and is going to sit it out tonight. DW going over there now to speak to them, the problem is that it is a very dangerous place to set up a trap with lorries coming backwards and forwards onto the premises every night and close to the A6 with the added problem that Murphy is unwilling to let anyone get too near him.
So at the moment Julie if you go up with an inseason bitch do not go anywhere but JG Pears as we do not want to put him in any further danger. Stay safe Murphy your Mum is coming to bring you home.
Sharongolfer
Good Luck.
carol
hi update on murphy the man from j g pears rang me tonight at 8pm to say murphy was there so we went over to look for him but not found him at the minute hes be going there for three weeks going to go over evry night to try and get him to bring him home
Julie
Is J G Pears on the A6 (thats what google earth says) or on Harborough rd (B6047). If I can get there at any time in the next few days where should I walk my friends bitch? Shall I park at JG Pears as Murphey has been fed there and then walk her down the A6 to the island, round onto the B6047 a bit and then back to Pears to try to establish that as a place he is drawn to?
Ellie
Will let DW know the new development first thing in the morning, lets hope he goes back there and we can set up a feeding station and trap. Bitch in season might come in very handy too Julie!
carol
i went to market harborough this morning with my friend we didnt see the dog which i am hopeing is murphy i went to j g pears its up the road from the nursury up where they are doing the road works i spoke to a lady there and she said she has seen the dog a couple of times and he has been fed there has well but he didnt go there last night they said when he goes back they will try and get him they have got a bit of scrap metal there has well and said when thet tryed to get him he goes of in there i rang her and asked her what the place was call and thats when she told me its j g pears she said i can go there any time and look where the scrap is ive did try and ring the dw but couldnt get hold of him i will try again tomorrow then i got a call of a man named gary randall and he said he was going to put it on the radioLast edited: 2011-12-06 17:31:58 by carol
Julie
Hi, watched the island by mcdonalds from about midday until it got dark but ni sighting unfortunately. Spoke to the dog warden about an idea to try to use a bitch in season to lay a scent trail to lure him to an area. As he seems to be moving from Market Harborough to the island on the A46 and back again would it be worth walking from one to the other to lay the scent? Was hoping to do this with my friends dog who is in season at the moment but I've got to work late for the next couple of days. If you think it may help and no one can do it beforehand I may be able to do this friday, tho I may have to cover at work.
Ellie
Thanks wendyw - its just that he is a lot further out than we thought he would be. Managed a search this morning over the fields to Foxton and spoke to DW this evening who has been out all day along with whom I presume was Julie? Thanks Julie! Unfortunately we have no idea where he is going, he was reported near the school actually in MH last night and a lady said she had seen him there 3 days ago too. Police told burger man that they had seen him about 2 weeks ago near Gartree so although it ties in doesnt help now. The RSPCA can supply a trap at short notice but at the moment just do not know where to set up a feed station. Please everyone out searching remember he is now very scared so try to entice him to you quietly making no eye contact rather than try to catch him.
wendyw
Hi Ellie, I would say I'm 95% sure it was Murphy that I saw yesterday, this is going on breed rather than anything else. It was definately a fawn mastiff but couldn't get close enough to have a proper look at the face. No sign this morning but will keep my eyes peeled as I'm in that area quite often. Yesterday, The other motorist and myself watched him walk across one field, heading straight for a gateway and into the next field, maybe a route he knows well? He was heading in the direction of Foxton and I did notice a farm in that direction too. Good luck!
Julie
got numbers - thanks
Ellie
Thanks Julie the Harborough DW is 01858 821133 or if already out 01858 828282.
Julie
Have got a sitter for aft so will park in gateway opp the nursery and watch with binoculars and camera. Don't have internet on my phone so if I spot anything - really really hope I do - will call the numbers on the poster. Keep fingers crossed for Murphey. xx
tucker
I'm one of the many who are far away, but check for an update everyday (several times a day!).I'm keeping everything crossed that he's safely home soon.xxxxx
Ellie
Sue, the DW says the RSPCA should have a suitable trap which now we have this latest sighting I think he would be happy to try, so I will press this when I speak to him again tomorrow.
B30
Any luck locating a trap Ellie?
Ellie
Thank you everyone for your concern and help. The trouble is until he crosses the A6 he then disappears in the fields and we just do not know where he is hiding up. wendyw putting you on the spot what percentage would you say that it was actually Murphy you sighted?
I know the DW is doing his upmost to catch him. I will go back again tomorrow too and Julie I think you parking up and watching will probably be more help then the off chance of seeing him if you go over the fields.
wendyw
Hi, I spotted Murphy today at 1pm whilst picking my son up from Sunflowers Nursury opposite McDonalds on the A6 at Market Harborough. I stopped along with another motorist and tried to call him but he limped into the fields towards Foxton. He seems to still be putting weight onto his leg so that can only be good. I will be back at the nursery around 830 & 1300 tomorrow and will have a look around..lets hope he comes to someone soon
Raisen
I keep checking in to see if Murphy has been found. Good that there has been another sighting, at least he is still around in the same area.
Will try and come and help search if I can
B30
Another sighting, Great!!

Julie
What are Murpheys favourite smelliest foods? Does he like stinky cheese or garlic sausage - anything he could smell from several feet away that might lure him close. If can get someone to look after my friends puppy I'll park up at the roundabout for as long as poss tomorrow.
Julie
Sounds really promising. No luck with the night goggles I'm afraid tho waiting to hear from a contact at wildlife trust. Let me know when the BBQ is and I'll be there if poss. Would Murphey be attracted by other dogs or scared off by them?
Ellie
Went over and met very experienced DW for advice and look around - rang me back a little while ago as there was a sighting of a large brown limping dog at the Roundabout on the A6 again, about 2pm - he is back out searching as is a friend of Carols. Please stay safe Murphy, everyone is trying so hard.Last edited: 2011-12-05 15:05:21 by Ellie
DogLostOwl
Looks like you are making steady progress. Good luck with the bbq.
Ellie
Have now establ;ished where the farmers sightings where and they are all in the same area. Snowdrop and I meeting the DW this morning to search and discuss best options.
Ellie
Thankyou mrsp2000 and everyone else helping. Plan tomorrow to speak and if possible meet the DW, I really need to find exactly where the two sightings hy the farmers have been to plot a map of where he could be and permission to go over the fields. I also want to find a suitable place to have a bbq to see if the smells entice him, so company would be good!!
mrsp2000
I can help with a search most days my email is suzypovey@msn.com I really hope you find him
Snowdrop
You are welcome Carol xxx Had another couple of hours there again today didnt see anything. Searched a derelict barn in the next field opposite mcdonalds definately no sign of him having been there. Spoke to quite a few dog walkers who live in Foxton who said they will keep an eye out and would ring the dog warden. Murphy I had sardines with me today let us find you xxx
B30
So glad that this dog has been identified definitely as Murphy and that now you know the area he's in. Well done Ellie on finding the man who saw him. Please stay safe sweetie XX
carol
thank you every one for your help i do hope that the dog at market harborough is murphy ive not heard of any other bullmastiff being reported missing so lets hope hes my murphy once again every one thank you all very much Last edited: 2011-12-03 20:20:49 by carol
Ellie
The very helpful young man who was driving the van has just rang me back (like an idiot I dashed out without a poster) and he has checked on Murphys DogLost page and says he is 100% certain it was him, he says he got such a good look at his face when he turned to look at him. Please stay safe now Murphy, we are trying our hardest to bring you home.
Julie
Really hope this is Murphey. If you want to organise a group to try to catch this dog I'd love to help, work and still having my friends puppy permitting. Will go out to the area with binoculars whenever I can and still asking around for those night vision goggles - texted a friend whose son is on leave from the army. Please come on home Murphey. x
Ellie
After a bit of detective work I managed to trace the van driver who nearly hit the dog last night. I not only got to speak to him but he also kindly agreed to meet us to show us exactly where the dog was! When I asked him to describe the dog he said he was sandy coloured short coated and with a boxer dog type head. Apparently at 5.30 pm the dog crossed the A6 from left to right in front of him and he had to swerve to avoid hitting him. Then on his return journey a bit later he saw the dog again and stopped and followed him for quite some time along a country road but wasnt able to get near enough to catch him, the dog then crossed back on the A6 from where he had first come from. We searched for about 3 hours but unfortunately no sighting. The man at the burger van who overlooks the fields where he went gets there very early every morning and he will keep a look out, we had spoken to him a fortnight ago. The very helpful and concerned van driver said the dog was limping and looked very tired but otherwise not in poor condition. Time to come home Murphy.

Off to pick mum up - we are going up to the area of the sightings with binoculars to see if we can get a sighting of this dog xxx
Ellie
Spoken to Owl this morning and she has very kindly offered the use of her tracker dog if we can pinpoint these sightings a bit better ands also advice as to obtain a large enough trap. Going out myself to search soon and to try to find more info from DW and see if McDonalds have caught any sightings on security camera. Please stay safe until we find you Murphy.
Ellie
Thanks bignosesmum, I will ring DW again in the morning to see if we can organise a proper search and finding a trap. Was this sighting in the fields a fresh one from last Friday I wonder? I know when I spoke to DW earlier he did tell me a labrador kept getting out and he was always returning it which threw me off the trial a little but this clearly does not seem to be the case. The lady at Premier Inn when shown a poster by our helper was of the opinion it was a mastiff, we must catch this dog, even if he he not Murphy he is a stray.
carol
i hope that dog gets picked up and please please please be my murphy
Dog Wardenbignosesmum
Large brown dog seen again today near MacDonalds on the A6, man in van had to swerve around it. Sighting midweek also by farmer in fields by Macdonalds. This dog is now limping but is too scared to be caught. I have spoken to Harborough DW today about trying to trap this dog as it clearly needs help. Fingers crossed we get it and doubly crossed it turns out to be Murphy if we do!
carol
thanks every one for your help some one must have murphy has hes not been seen since he went missing and some one must know some thing if any one has got him please let him go and come home he is part of are family and we miss him so much and want him back so please if any one knows any thing then please get in touch with me your doglostLast edited: 2011-12-02 18:51:47 by carol

Now come on Murphy. Get yourself caught. Your owners want you back NOW.
B30
Well done Ellie. I hope someone recognises Murphy from the news coverage
Ellie
Was invited by BBC News Leicester for an interview warning over the rise in missing dogs in our area. I had the chance to highlight Murphy. The link is http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-15967587. Do hope this brings some good news soon.
DogLostJayne - Founder Doglost.
Murphy featured on tonights BBC east Midlands news.
Ellie
Advised owner to add reward (no amount stated) to his poster.
Took a poster into Witsend School For Dogs, Aylestone - with the dog school, behaviourist centre and hydropool they have people from all parts visiting.
Julie
Hi guys, very sorry but won't be able to get out this afternoon as got to look after a sick friends poorly puppy. Will try again later in the week. Am still asking around for night vision goggles. Hope everyone's efforts bring Murphy home soon. x
B30
Carol, I hope your advert brings the call you've been waiting for and Murphy is home soon XX
Ellie
Murphy is on page 40 of todays Leicester Mercury and will also go in their free paper and on their web site.
Please come home Murphy your Mum needs you.
Snowdrop
I went out again around the Foxton area today, unfortunatly nothing to report. If you want me to poster anywhere else please let me know.Julie i dont know anyone with goggles sorry.
Ellie
Julie, its hard to pinpoint exactly where the second possible sighting was from the DWs description but believe it was between the A6 and Foxton Locks. He has spoken to people at the Locks and I know Snowdrop postered there previously. DW is still patrolling that area and if Carol is going to poster more her side then I suggest the bit in the middle. I could do Saddington, Fleckney, Bruntingthorpe etc.
carol
hijulie going toposter in earl shilton barwell and see where else ican put some.
Julie
Also do you know more exactly where the sighting was by the DW as could fan out from there.
Julie
Carol could you let me know what areas you've postered so i don't double up?
carol
thanks julie for all you are doing ive just printed a load more posters hope we get a sighting soon
Julie
Could be promising. have got to work tues am but could do posters in aft. Same idea as before - all the villages between A47 A6, A427 and A6003.

Know this may sound a bit out there but does anyone know anyone with heat sensitive goggles for night time use as I know from my work in conservation there are many less distractions at night.
Ellie
Carol and I have both spoken to the Harborough DW as there was a possible sighting yesterday after a farmer spotted a "brown" dog out in the fields. DW has spent most of yesterday and today out with binoculars on high vantage points to see if he could see anything. He really was so helpful and concerned. The weekend DW is aware. At this point we think its impossible to leave food anywhere because this dog is not in an area where he could be contained.
carol
thanks julie i dont know what else to do at the minute i wish we new what way the mastiff from harborough went on saturday then at least i know where to go looking just wish murphy would show is self there know telling where hes gone bless him once again julie thanks for your help
Julie
If there is anything else you can think of I can do Carol please let me know - at the moment am free on tuesday. Just wish he would come home.
carol
i would like to thank ellie julie and snowdrop for all what they have done trying to find murphy i apprieciate every thing you have done thank you i wish we new which way the mastiff went on saturday when he went away from the macdonalds bins where ever you are murphy show yourself so you can be picked up and come home
Ellie
Thank you very much you 2 ladies. I think the mastiff on the A6 (if it was Murphy, but I have no reason to believe it wasnt) has moved away from the area as there has been no more sightings. I feel he must be travelling under the cover of darkness as no one is seeing him but we just do not know which way he is heading as he was already covering much more ground than we anticipated. So all your hard work postering is very much appreciated as he could be anywhere. Snowdrop postered at the cafe on the layby on the A6 and at Foxton Locks where by chance she spoke to someone from Huncote Kennels. Please give us some clues Murphy and continue to stay safe.Last edited: 2011-11-24 15:34:09 by Ellie

Took longer than expected as I kept getting lost so didn't cover as many as I hoped. I got to Wolvey, Wolvey Heath, Capston Magna, Wigston Parva, 4 winds Nursery, Sharnford, Sapcote, Boughton Astley, Sutton on the Elms, Liere, Dunton Bassett, Frolesworth, Ashby Parva, Claybrook, Biteswell and Ullesthorpe. unfortunately no sign of him. Got to wotk 4 next 4 days but will try again next tuesday if not found by then.
Snowdrop
Going back to McDonalds area of market harborough today will take a poster to foxton locks while im there. Will have sausages with me! come on murphy turkey and sausages!!
Julie
Will certainly do my best to get that far. Taking some turkey with me just in case I sight him!
Ellie
Thank you so much Julie, that would be really good of you. I was wondering wether Foxton Locks and the Langtons should be postered. If you do not have time get that far ,let me know. We are just hoping that the well meaning people who tried to catch him on Saturday did not scare him out of the area, we have no more sightings despite Carol ringing round every day.
Julie
Will be out postering tomorrow - I've been reading the postings and studying a map of the area and now wonder if it is best if I put one or two posters in the little villages east of Hinckley between M69, A5 and M1 and further east if I have time towards Market Harborough? Will do this unless I hear otherwise and keep my eyes peeled for gorgeous Murphy.
carol
thanks every one for your help where ever you are murphy show yourself so you can get picked up and come home we miss you and want you home
Julie
Am available from mid-week onwards to help round the cv6 area and as far as Bedworth/Hinkley - will do posters at busy junctions unless there is something more effective i can do.
Ellie
Rang Harborough DW today (as did Carol) he had spoke to people at the 3 places that Snowdrop did yesterday and left them his phone number and had a good search of the area but saw nothing. I also rang Harborough FM Radio and explained and they were so helpful and would air it for me. Emailed Oadby and Wigston DW. Also went to the area of the sighting myself and man at the Langton Farm shop displayed a poster for me (his wife helped in the search on Saturday), they have a xmas fayre there this weekend so hopefully many people will see it and went for a walk through the woods and put a poster there as its part of the Leicestershire Round but no sighting.
Raisen
Have posted on Facebook, do hope he is found soon
DogLostRiverlady
Have put Murphy on twitter + will circulate.

Hi, the nearest vet to the Oadby roundabout is Borajos/Medivet, might be worth sending them a poster or at least giving them a call, 0116 2712856. Hope Murphy is home safe soon.
B30
Have sent out a few further postcodes, LE16,NN16,NN17,NN18 so now a ten mile radius of MH should be covered.
carol
i would like to thank every one who is helping to fined murphy i am very greatfull to you all thank you i am hopeing we will get murphy back soon he is missed and loved very much
Ellie
Thanks for that Sue, Murphys owner is trying so hard to bring him home. Market Harborough is very near the Northamptonshire border, if you think alerts can go there too. I have given her the phone numbers of both the vets in Market Harborough and she is going to do a lot more ringing about tomorrow.

Have added SIGHTED to Murphy's poster and re-sent mailings because of the recent sighting. Also some additional postcodes so that a 15 miles radius from LE9 is covered. Let me know if you want any more postcodes Ellie

Owner has spoken to DW today but no one has brought this mastiff in. We need to know from people who saw him as to which area he headed off to when he went away from the bins.
Maggie & Star - I believe when he was first lost he was heading towards the riding stables. I agree so much of the area is fields as is the roundabout on the A6 with few buildings around. Thank you Snowdrop too for your help. Carol wishes it to be known how grateful she is for everyones help.
Snowdrop
Have been to Macdonalds on the A6 this morning and had a good look around, didnt see any thing but postered mcdonalds and spoke to staff who said they would keep an eye out. Poster left at garage - they already had Carols number. Spoke to a really helpful man who emptys all of the bins in that area early every morning and gave him a copy of Murphys poster who said he would look. Then went to the pub and a lady there said "thats him" from when he was seen yesterday (although as we all know pedigree dogs all look so alike unless its your own!) I used to live not far from where this dogs gone missing - loads of open fields there. i know there used to be a riding stables (Think it was a riding stables) just before the bridge in Elemsthrope, train tracks too, have you checked along those? just over the train bridge you have a farm and a few houses, just over the motorway bridge you then have one house and fields just down the side which you can walk down, that takes you to Stoney Stanton - Which fields did he go missing from? - so much open country side around elemsthrope, stoney stanton ect - Last edited: 2011-11-20 10:27:16 by Maggie

Oh I hope this is Murphy finally showing himself.
Ellie
bignosesmum thank you for this alert. Murphys owner came over to search but by the time she got there this dog was no longer around. I am suggesting she posters heavily around this area and see if we can organise a search I believe Carol will ring you again. If this is you Murphy please stay safe until you are found.

I have contacted owner today as a fawn Matsiff has been seen early hours of this morning and at 11.00am this morning going through bins by the Macdonalds and Garage on the roundabout on the A6 between Oadby and Market Harborough. Dog is said to look very scared and wouldnt go to anyone. Maybe this dog was "taken" from Elmsthorpe and has either got away or has been let loose in this area??
Ellie
Owner is going to put Murphy in the Hinckley Times and is also postering further afield. As I had to call in the police station today on behalf of Tissie and Hollys owner , the beat officer is going to be informed as all 3 dogs are missing from the LE9 area.
Snowdrop
Posters up at Fosse Park, Have spoken to other mastiff owners in Leicester who are going to keep an eye out for Murphy xxx

Update from owner today that she spoke to Radio Leicester about Murphy. They gave her Pet Finders phone number too. She begs anyone who has taken him to please let him return home.
Snowdrop
Going to poster a wider area in Leicester today. I wonder if we can get all the missing Leicester dogs on Capital Radio?
Ellie
Checked the Animal Wardens on behalf of the owner but unfortunately this proved not to be Murphy but thanks again millypod for your help and concern.
Ellie
Thanks for that millypod, might be a long shot so far away but owner does feel that someone could have picked him up and could be anywhere so have alerted them to this.
I had an email from Carol today that she is still checking where he went missing from and been searching at Burbage Common today - she is also asking about and postering for Tissie and Holly cocker spaniels also missing from LE9 on her search. She is going to put Murphy on Radio Leicester tomorrow.

Had an email last night from Murphys very worried owner and she says she is really grateful for everything DogLost is doing to try to help. She is searching all around day and night and says it does not make sense that no one has seen him being such a big dog. Anymore advice from anyone would be appreciated.
Ellie
Myself and Snowdrop took posters to Elmsthorpe and postered in prominant positions. Also called in the Boarding Kennels in the village, left one there and the nice chap promised to keep an eye out. We walked our own dogs along the bridleway there but the visibility was poor but we spoke to a dog walker and also the lady living near the entrance, they too promised to look out for Murphy. I suggest owners heavily poster the neighbouring village Stoney Stanton too. Stay safe until you are found Murphy.

Have spoken to owner. Murphy was out on a walk over the fields when fireworks frightened him. They ran after him but he disappeared. He is rather an aloof boy so would not have gone up to anyone. Am emailing information template and contact numbers.

Hope he is home soon. Liz xx
