Thank you everyone for posting your support on here and for some fantastic ways to help. You are brilliant. I don't know the circumstances, maybe owner can add some more info if not detrimental to the police case. I understand poor Tyra was confused and shaken when found, but obviously she is just fine now that she is home. Thank you all. Welcome home Tyra! x

I'm in shock! So pleased, can't quite believe it. I'd love to know the circumstances. Was she dumped, then picked up by DW and scanned? So shocking to think of all the other dogs this is happening to - that arn't chipped. If they are so far from home in just a few hours, well, the thought of those poor owners beavering away with their posters and searching day in day out, - with almost no chance of finding them. Makes your blood boil. I want to put a whole page advert in all national papers saying MICROCHIP AND TATTOO YOUR BLOODY DOGS BEFORE THEY GET TAKEN. My little dogs will remain sleeping in our bed, and not be left ever-again in my car..and when eventually the time comes for me to have another faithful friend, I will get his/her belly tattood as I want visual deterrent. For those of u who think its like conventional tattooing, it's NOT - don't know why they even call it tattooing. Its a quick kind of heat stamp, (tiny yelp), then permanent ink is thoroughly rubbed in. Result - permanent large enuf number that can't be removed, but may mean they dump your dog quickly. Same sort of price as chipping. I'd do both. Last edited: 2011-12-07 20:31:47 by Neighbark

So pleased that Tyra is home. Found in Oxfordshire area eh! wonder if that area is a clearing place for stolen dogs or maybe the thieves were just heading up that way.
SuzeeBee
So pleased to see that dear Tyra has been found. Once again shows the importance of a chip for your precious pets. When only 7 days to trace your pet before they can be rehomed it would be almost impossible to find them when they are taken so far from area.Well done to Tyras owners and welcome home darling girl.

I also think if there are loads of posters and the break in etc it may be someting the local paper will be interested in - saying that she has hit twitter etc. Ring them up and ask them, I have done with stories before and they are always on the look out for a local community story. Get your picture of her ready to give them. If they don't sound interested, ring back and speak to someone else on the paper. Mention doglost and tell them the internet address and what we have all been saying. I am working all day today until really late but will put some posters near the small bit of Epping Forest I have here. Manor Road is quite a main road - someone must have seen something. I would like the road where she was taken with posters - every lamppost if necessary. Would they have been walking by and heard her? I am trying to work out what made them break in in the first place, as if they knew? All very odd, or could she be seen inside the van. My friend is a dog groomer and dog walker I will mention it to her as well. I am thinking of you all and will let everyone know around here.

Have sent an email direct giving some advice plus needing more deatils- ie do you have a crime ref number for the break in etc ??
I have also sent deatils to a contact in the met. police asking him to spread the word

I'm so sorry to hear that your beautiful Tyra is missing. I now live in North Kent but lived in Loughton for many years. Make sure you blitz the Limes Farm Estate in Chigwell with posters and also visit the Metropolitan Police Sports Club near to Ye Olde Kings Arms pub (the Met Police grounds are pretty extensive). I have a dog-owning friend who lives in Buckhurst Hill and who sometimes walks her dogs in Chigwell and so will alert her. Contact Loughton Police Station (High Road, Loughton) as they have been instrumental in reuniting lost dogs with their owners. Also, I think it would be a very good idea to target the community pubs on the Debden Estate namely Sir Winston Churchill (Debden Broadway), The Cottage Loaf (Jessel Drive), The Gunmakers Arms (Chester Road), The Golden Lion (Borders Lane), the Clydesdale (Westall Road) and the Mother Hubbard (Valley Road). Clearly there are many more pubs in the Loughton area but I've purposely chosen the more community-type pubs. Also I believe there is still a large PDSA place at Woodford which definately needs a poster. I believe the local veterinary practice group is called Goddards. Hope this helps - good luck!Last edited: 2011-12-06 23:30:22 by Millys Mum

Yes poster poster poster, make her too hot to handle, too well-known. Go into places like Macdonalds, Kentucky Fried Chicken etc, make sure the staff know there's a reward, they all hang-out and will be keen to look out and get some cash. Lampposts, bus stops, post boxes, make her the most well-known dog in the area. Approach dog walkers, driving instructors who drive around all the time, bus drivers, milk men, etc. etc. Also bin men, horse tack shops (most horsey people have dogs), pet shops, supermakrket notice boards (loads of people stop and look at them), so glad she's microchipped, - don't forget vets especially the PDSA - tho' I believe they don't scan very often, SO ASK THEM TO !!!!! i wish I lived around there -I'd be out looking for her now. Good luck!

Thank you for posting. Do everything I said in my e-mails and make those police listen! They need to act fast - did they fingerprint the van? Make them! It is your right. Any helpers out that way, we need you! We need posters further out, she could have been driven anywhere. Would suggest Romford, Ilford, Barking, all outer London areas. Contact the radio stations for these places, put posters in all the shops you can. I don't think she will still be in Chigwell. Who knew you had a staffie? Who has been visiting the area or your home recently? Think of everyone you've seen who is not local. Any neighbours had visitors? Anyone paid particular attention to her recently? Tradesmen visiting? Think. Who would have wanted her and why? Keep going, you are doing well. Remember HUNDREDS of posters. Let's get this baby home! x

Hi all, thanks very much for your support i have sent posters in today- so that should help!
The actual area was manor road - chigwell.
The police were informed as the van door was broken so we do have a crime number, believe or not the van also had an iphone and wallet that wasn't touch during the theft! clearly that liked the look of her.
We are not giving up- we will try anything- called the warden in the area and RSPCA and petlog has emailed the local vets. thank you x
Her daughter is at home pinning for her and so are the kids. Police are being helpful at all"have never heard of it happening before".
DogLostKimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
First thing - you need to make police give you a crime number. URGENTLY. They need to help you. I have e-mailed owner with info sheets. Best thing you can do now is cover Ilford, Redbridge, Barkingside, Barking etc with posters. I am talking hundreds! Once they realise she has been made famous with osters, possible they will let her go. You need to make her too hot to handle! NOW. Let's get her home. x Last edited: 2011-12-06 21:37:49 by Kimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders

Do you think she was stolen, or could it be that they broke into the van thinking there was something there worth stealing and she escaped?
Whereabouts in Chigwell did this happen? It sprawls out quite a bit in terms of where to look.
I drive past there often and could walk my dogs there, but need to know a location.
Awful situation, let's hope she is found really quickly.

Ask the local schools to help, children see and hear a lot. Offer a reward towards school funds.
