I am so pleased for Xena, I check in on her regularly and have been waiting for the day that she finally has a family to call her own. Be very happy Xena, you deserve it!!
Jackie
So happy to see Xena finally settled...was thinking that Shereen would finally have the room for her as she's been there since the beginning....well done to Xena's new family I'm sure she'll make the most of being part of your family...we to were fosterer's to our Oscar but fell in love and eventually adopted him...on the cards since day one but we tried....we are a happy failed family and I bet you are to....stay loved and safe now Xena been a long journey but you finally got what you deserved so much xxxx
Shereen
:) Akita Rescue, sorry was just so excited last night I couldn't contain myself!....Have been waiting for this day for Xena ever since the day she was found!...Thank you to your rescue and for everyone else who made this possible....Xxx
ClaireC
Trouble with giving a dog back to an irresponsible breeder is that the animal ends up being PTS! So glad this didn't happen. xx
Akita Rescue
You got there before me Shereen, we did'nt get to know till yesterday evening ourselves and was going to post this afternoon the fantastic news about Xena.
Thank you again for all those that helped Xena with her op etc, she is finally home after 11 months in kennels, no dog deserved a home more. Look forward to the rest of you life Sweet Xena.
lesleyjane
Brilliant!!! I made a small donation towards her care initially......well done to ALL those involved in her rehab but mostly to her new family! And yes, the breeder is a disgrace, every breeder should be prepared to take back one of their dogs whatever the circumstances.....but probably better for Xena that they didn't in this case!
Fran Daly
I do feel sorry for rescue dogs who end up with a good foster home, settle and then are moved on again as they don't understand the word "temporary" and was upset some time ago to read that Xena was now being put up for adoption as it was so obvious that she was in the BEST HOME she could ever have wanted.

Having followed Xena's story since day 1 I am so happy for her and it shows that sometimes things are meant to be.

Well done Xena's mum xxx

PS Was so pleased with this news that I think I should get an award for the longest sentence ever :)Last edited: 2013-03-02 13:33:36 by Fran Daly

Akita Rescue
Shereen, where are the new pics??
We are still waiting to find a foster for Xena tomorrow, fingers crossed someone will be able to help.
minky
Just seen this and wish i was in a position to donate. What a wonderful dog. My dog gets very intolerant of everyone (except me) when she is feeling ill, that's how i know she is getting poorly. Once she's well she is absolutely fine again. I agree she shouldn't be labelled aggressive. I sincerely hope she gets better soon and well done to all you angels who have helped to save her. :0) x
jobadger
Wow! Look at the difference in her body language. You're doing a fabulous job with this girl. Thank you. x
Neighbark
That's nice to see - hopefully she's not so aggressive now that she's feeling a bit better, and being fed. I know I'm irritable when I'm starving!

I would foster if we knew how she was with other dogs xx Good news i hope she gets the attention she so deserves x
dewilliams42
WONDERFUL NEWS. SO GLAD THINGS ARE WORKING OUT FOR THIS LOVELY GIRL.X
Shereen
Its good news!Xena had the endiscope and they could'nt find anything really but they opened her up to make sure, just a bit of old nasty scavanged food she obviously been fending for her self for a while so thats been cleared and for safty have taken a biopsy of her intestines just to make sure,he doesnt think there will be any problems though because she seemd quite fit inside,They did remove a very small mammary tumor and have sent it off for testing results will be back early next week at latest ...and shes been speyed!!!..if a suitable foster home could be found she would be fine to go 'Home' on Friday all going well! she will need to be an only dog foster, but things are looking good for this lovely girl.THANK YOU TO ALL WHO HAVE DONATED TO MAKE THIS POSSIBLE!!!!!The future is looking bright for Xena!!!!Yeah!Last edited: 2011-12-20 18:29:30 by Shereen

Guys....I'm away for the weekend with next to no signal.just logged into Facebook and saw a photo of Xena getting snogs and treats from one of our nurses,so thought I'd come on here, and wow!!i am overwhelmed by everyone's generosity. She seems to have really come round. They think she may have megaoesophagus so she's having X-rays tomorrow. I'm away/off work til Wednesday but when I'm back I'll do all I can to help/keep you informed. I thought Xena would be another statistic that I did not have the power to help, that'll teach me for giving up too easily. Thank you all and please keep spreading the word xxxx

No probs Jobadger, thanks for the message. Had to pay out over £700 in last 6 wks to vets- cat attacked by fox,(brain haemorrage/stroke/collapsed, so intensive care for 2 nights), Toby dog eat large dark choc/has heart murmour-thought was heart-attacking hence intensive care 1 night, and his sister bad cough.Phew :-) but really want this lovely Akita to recover and be loved again. Can't believe owner not come forward.Last edited: 2011-12-17 01:19:07 by Neighbark

more than willing to make a donation to this poor girl. she deserves a life and a great happy one too. so what is happening please?
Julie B
is there any further update on this gorgeous girl ? x
Beanie245
Wellwisher Dominique as asked me to post the following she is very happy to help with costs for Xena... see below.
"Can you pleas do me a favour and put a note on this little girls found dogs lost link advising that I will gladly donate towards any vets bills ( I have 2 Akitas myself and they do get very grumpy when ill so that may explain the aggression?) Please don’t let this little girl be pts."
Will forward contact details to Angus (central)if Shereen would like to contact her or myself.
Or maybe you could show a link or contact for donations?
Good luck !! XLast edited: 2011-12-16 09:57:07 by Beanie245
jobadger
Thank you Shereen, for the update - and for talking with the vet. I'm glad she's showing some improvement - at least she's fighting back. xx
Shereen
I am in touch with the vet,ive spoken to him this morning and am waiting to hear back from him...Xena is showing some signs of improvement so it seems she had probably eaten whatever is inside her...X ray showed no other injuries appart from an older break in her tail.It doesnt mean shes out of the woods yet though and needs help. Will update as soon as I hear more.Xx
amberpaws
I will also donate for her - she deserves a chance. It's not her fault if she's feeling poorly, worried & frightened
jobadger
Please Neighbark - I didn't mean to make anyone feel uncomfortable. I'm sorry. I just want our committment to helping this girl to be realised. It's only because I've received my annual pension payment that I can afford this at this time - and I'm lucky that no-one needs veterinary attention here at the moment. xx I wouldn't normally put an amount like this into print - but she needs all the help she can get.Last edited: 2011-12-16 07:58:27 by jobadger
lesleyjane
I hope Megan will let us all know how to make donations if the vet agrees to this approach.....judging by the response in such a short time I am hopeful that a substantial amount could be raised, espacially if BBC etc are contacted.I will ask my work colleages and doggie friends too, so please update with any more news/decision.
Neighbark
She looks so worried and uncomfortable.
Neighbark
I too will pledge, but cannot offer that much due to 3 heavy vets bills myself in last 6 wks. Feel mean, but all can do.
jobadger
Okay...... as an act of good faith, I would like to pledge £50 towards this girl's treatment, if they are willing to keep her and treat her.
Akita Rescue
I think payments would have to be dealt with by Megan. Perhaps she can speak to the vet and see what they will agree to.
helen n
I will donate too! How do we do this to help this poor dog? xx
SJ100
I will donate as well x
jobadger
Thank you for the update Akita Rescue. BBC South East and Meridian News were mentioned by kentprivateye. Would anyone be willing to get in touch with them regarding Xena's plight?
May we ask if the vet will take donations towards hern treatment directly?
Shereen
me too
ML
Im willing to donate too. xx
dewilliams42
I TOO WOULD BE PREPARED TO MAKE A DONATION. SHE IS A GORGEOUS GIRL AND DESERVES A CHANCE ESPECIALLY IF SHE HAS THE CHANCE OF A RESCUE AFTER HER OP.
lesleyjane
Will vet take payment in installments? An appeal would hopefully raise the cash but of course would take time which is what Xena doesn't have! I am willing to donate, and maybe an appeal could be put in local (or national??) papers??
Akita Rescue
Xena has foreign bodies in her stomach, such as staples?? she keeps being sick and off her food. The council did pay for her x-ray which is how they found out. The council have said they can not pay for any more treatment, and to just keep her comfortable till Saturaday when she will be pts.
Megan will have to give you exact cost for the operation and stay at the vets, but the op will not be under £600.00 then if she gets an infection etc, and her stay there for 2wks will have to be added on.
jobadger
Thank you Akita Rescue. I wouldn't have a problem donating. It's been done for several other dogs in need on this and on other sites.
I have always taken it that the 7 days refers to the time when the council is able legally to make a decision regarding whether a dog is up for rehoming/pts hence my attempts at contacting rescues re. space. It is now a totally different scenario with her needing an operation. May we ask what it's for?
Last edited: 2011-12-15 20:12:20 by jobadger
dewilliams42
IM SURE EVERYONE WOULD BE WILLING TO DONATE SOMETHING. POOR GIRL SHE MUST BE FEELING VERY POORLY, CONFUSED AND FRIGHTENED. X
Unknown
Could we have some idea of the cost of the operation and a cost if she stayed at the vets as well. We have come this far to get her a space it would be sad to lose her. Liz xx
Akita Rescue
I have been in touch with Megan and have offered her space with Akita Rescue and Welfare.
How ever she is in need of an operation asap and the cost is beyond what we can afford and the council will not pay for the op nor will the RSPCA.
We could have Xena in kennels, but if she does have the operation then she needs a foster home near the vets so she can have after care, this would be difficult for us, she would have to stay at the vets till she is able to go in to kennels without risk of infection, which will put the vet bill even higher.
dewilliams42
jobadger- i think what meganrvn means space at the vets is'nt an issue but the council have a strict 7 days to find owner before pts. 7 days is not always long enough to find owners for many reasons.
Shereen
people are willing to donate if need be including investigating her condition.
jobadger
Many thanks for your update MeganRVN2. I presume that if space is not the issue, then Xena will not be euthanised on Saturday? Rescue space would mean time for her to be assessed and more time to trace her owners.Last edited: 2011-12-15 18:03:32 by jobadger

Megan

Reference my previous post, has anyone contacted BBC South East and Meridian News? BBC South East did a great job a few weeks ago in publicising the really poorly lurcher which was found near Dartford. Turned out had been stolen some months previously. Luckily owners were reunited thanks to media publicity.Last edited: 2011-12-15 17:48:12 by Fran Daly

it would be wonderful if her owner was found as looking at her sad face she is definately missing someone. any luck with the national pet register? do you think her problems are she is pining?
MeganRVN2
Hello sorry I'm off work now,and forgot my password nightmare.
Anyway,I really really appreciate everyone's help and suggestions.im in contact with breed rescues and they are doing all they can to help.Xena is not well and she really needs to find her owner. I would really appreciate that only people who may be her genuine owner contact the number on the poster as I said I'm in touch with the breed rescues and space for her is not the issue here.

Hi - I've also contacted SHAK (Safe homes and kindness) this morning, along with Wolfwood Animal Rescue who've both been known to help Akitas in trouble.
JAWT have been back in touch to say they'll do all they can to help - but space is very short.
I don't want this little one to be just another statistic - she deserves more.

dewilliams42
THE SUGGESTION FROM AMBERPAWSLOOKS A GOOD POSSIBILITY AND THEY DEAL WITH LARGER DOGS. WHAT DO YOU THINK?
jobadger
How's this girl doing? Any news of rescue please?
Fran Daly
I am so upset by the 7 day rule which some Council's have before putting a dog to sleep. Perhaps there should be an online petition started which allows for more time to find the original/new owner.

Is it possible to have an appeal put out on BBC South East or Meridian. Also if this dog is aggressive due to being scared, could a Thundershirt be tried on her to see if it helps with her aggression.
dewilliams42
MEGAN RVN- DID YOU HAVE A REPLY FROM YOUR EMAIL- SO HOPE IT COULD BE THE ONE ON THE NATIONAL PET REGISTER-THEY DO LOOK SO SIMILAR. WITH ALL THE SUGGESTIONS OF RESCUES ETC FROM PEOPLE I DO HOPE THE COUNCIL WILL ALLOW TIME TO FOLLOW THEM UP-DOES AN EXTENSION OF TIME REALLY MATTER TO THEM?
amberpaws
There is a charity in the Clacton, Essex area that was founded with the intention of helping dogs labelled as 'agressive' - maybe they can help :- http://www.spiritofthedog.org.uk/index.php

Everything is worth a try for this sweetheart

is this poor dog injured? Ive not stopped thinking about her all day wondering why she would be hiding under a car for two days? was she hit by a car do you think?,beaten?,is she sore? she looks so sorry for herself must be partly the reason for her aggresivness, fear of being touched where it hurts or is she not injured??? would really love to help in some way ? poor baby : (

Have put Xena on twitter + will circulate.

Poor little darling. No wonder she's aggressive. She must be terrified. Could the media be alerted so there's a chance her owner might come forward?

Sorry C.J. - I've just read your previous posting - didn't mean to step on any toes! :)
She looks thin - has obviously been out for a while - poor baby.

Re. my previous posting - I've emailed all three - so hopefully something may come of it.
Re. the aggression - I'd certainly be very scared, very defensive and very untrusting if I were this little girl. A breed rescue may be able to assist in the circumstances in which she was found.Last edited: 2011-12-14 13:43:59 by jobadger

NB This dog can only be returned to her rightful owner due to her aggression, we cannot risk her going to someone she doesn't know.
Wakefield is nowhere near here so she's probably been passed on a few times, or I guess possible she has been stolenLast edited: 2011-12-14 13:38:17 by MeganRVN

Has anyone contacted any of the following?
http://www.akitarescue.org
http://friendsofakitas.co.uk/
http://www.jawt.co.uk/

THE BREEDER SHOULD BE SLAMMED BY ALL OF THE BREED CLUBS FOR TURNING HER/HIS BACK ON ONE OF HIS DOGS!!! In fact - they should be named and shamed!!! I am absolutely disgusted.Last edited: 2011-12-14 13:42:21 by jobadger

thanks for your update. is wakefield any where near to you. she does sound like a one man dog. 7 days is'nt long enough to find/trace an owner and they could be desperately looking for her too. perhaps the council will realise this, after all perhaps they too might lose a dog one day.

Thannkyou everyone for looking. Unfortunately poor Xena is on a strict time limit. She's poorly at the moment and we are providing her with all the care she needs. She was brought to us by the council and they have said they will put her to sleep on Saturday once her 7 days are up.
She's a sweet girl but very very nervous so is showing some signs of aggression so we're finding it hard to find a rescue to take her on.
As said the chip details are registered with the breeder (Xena was chipped 7 years ago), they sold her to someone in Wakefield and that's all the detail they can give us and they weren't interested in having her back.
She's very well trained, sits, gives paw, and is obviously one person dog as she is wary about who she will trust.

perhaps the breeder may know of a possible home-after all she was one of their pups so should have some responsibility for her predicament.

I thought a good breeder would always take one of their pups back if need be. How could they stand by and let this lovely dog die? Are they aware of her impending death?

if chip deatils stop at breeder we are not going to be able to trace any more deatils as back tracking the chip will stop at the breeder.

I will try to see if can get rescue places- will phone around akita rescues and try a few others may be able to help but this time of year they are getting so full.
FOMO
Shame on the breeder for not keeping deTails of pups they breed . They have made money in breeding from this dog but dod not seem to care where it goes to!!!
dewilliams42
IS'NT THERE A LARGE BREED RESCUE WHO WOULD TAKE HER. JUST LOOK AT HER LOVELY FACE.
