Hi Carol, I know it's easy for me to sit here and say it, but it still is early days yet, many dogs aren't returned home instantly. Keep putting up posters and keep talking about Fred. Pop into your local chippy or the pubs and keep postering those sorts of places, people gossip and know everything that goes on in them. Keep trying other papers, even if it's slightly out the area. Keep going Damien, we're all rooting for you to find Fred and bring him home again xxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Fredsmum, try the press again - last week particularly if they'd done interviews with the view to putting them in a week or so later, was a terrible week for "heartwarming" press reports, what with the terrorist bombs. Keep going at it, it really helps - as I say, try emails from damien himself, see if that works. Good luck with the lead you have, sounds positive!! xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks Ste_dexter! Damien - that's your project for tonight. Get on the computer and design some special posters just for the gypsy site Ste mentions - put on it only 3 things - a big picture of Fred, under the words "Missing (in big letters) then underneath that, your mums phone number again in big numbers and any reward your mum wants to put (in big numbers). Nothing else, just make sure they can be read from across the road if you were in a car on the other side. Put them in the vicinity of that camp - but i don't want to hear you've gone in, just put them on lampposts, etc nearby. Have you managed to get the papers to listen to you? Maybe Damien can help with that - a young lad calling a paper gives them a nice angle - which is what you need... if he feels brave enough to call them, or perhaps you can send the papers an email, Damien? Don't forget the local news on TV too. Good luck let us know how you are both doing! Dee xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

thanks for the support sharon. damien went to school today and got sent home at 11am as he couldnt stop crying about fred. i have four children and have tried my best to console them, but fred was bought for damien for his fourth birthday when he was only six weeks old. so damien and fred have grown up together and were inseperable. the teachers havent said anything to me..... yet! but damien is never off school, so hopefully they will understand how this is affecting him? dexter i didnt know about the site on roch valley way? and like you say its not a million miles away from us? once again thanks all for your never ending support! carol (freds mum) xxxxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

So sorry Fred hasnt been found yet and so sorry so many have been left broken hearted. Its awfull to see your children heartbroken over the loss of a pet. My 10 year old lost her ferret a few weeks ago I kept her off school for the day she was in a real state. Teachers were shocked she was off school for something so (trivial). May have just been a ferret but shed had it from a baby and had cared well for it. Sorry about the rant and going off subject just letting you know how much I know this will be effecting your lad. Take care DamienxxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I do hope Damien is feeling brighter in the morning... do show him how to log on, we'll be happy to answer any queries about how things are going in your search for Fred. The one thing to remember is to stay strong and keep putting posters up no matter how many times you see they've been pulled down or how little response you get. Damien go to school armed with posters and get all your mates to display one in their street. See if you can also get their mum's to put one in the back window of their cars - cars travel to other towns and they queue in traffic - that means that other people have to queue behind... and they'll be sooo bored queuing that they'll have to read Fred's poster... Have you had a chance to see if there are any local gypsy sites? Try calling your local travellers liaison officer, see if they've seen him on any visits. Keep us updated on how things are going, in "Fred's Dale". Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi fredsmum, why not let damien post here too, we'd love to "talk" to him. With regard to your comments about a reward - yes you are right that the police cannot prosecute someone who stole fred claiming the reward - of course they'll lie about how they came across him - but you also need to encourage the theifs neighbour, friend, relative to call you - sometimes (actually most times) people who call with sightings don't want your money - but others won't give you information without it. It may also be that Fred has ONLY been stolen for ransom, rather than drugs etc. Whether or not the police are able to trace the theif, my advice would be - much as this advice sticks in my throat - offer one. If you have to haggle over the reward not only does it become a contract but remember it also becomes "demanding money with menaces" - the police won't tell you that... it's punishable by up to 5 years in prison... Roll out the posters into a 10 mile radius if you haven't already - and if you have taken another 10 mile radius. I expect Rochdale to be renamed Fred's Dale with the amount of posters that are up! Good luck - tell Damien we all care and we'll keep looking. Dee xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

hi guys, damien freds owner came home from school hols today and as expected he took the news very badly! he is distraught and cant understand why somebody would take fred or molly. i showed him this website and he is delighted that there are some genuine kind people in this world who truely care and understand what we are going through. it helped him realise that everybody is trying their best to help and bring back our dogs, and as sad as it is we are not the only people suffering. dexter your post was lovely, and it brought tears to my eyes. i agree totally with your sentiments and i also wondered what kind of world we live in where people can hurt others. i hope that everything is going well with eilidh and that she is happy and healthy. you truely are a wonderful person for helping and spreading the word and im glad that people are talking about this to bring awareness. and i pray that it doesnt happen to somebody else. geoff, i didnt see the item on gmtv, and thanks for asking the local farmers if they had seen molly and fred, i did contemplate that they had wandered up to lanehead but we had searched and did not see any signs? i will keep looking and hoping and praying that they will find their way home. thanks once again for all your kind words and efforts, they are truely appreciated! xxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I did manchester dog home on Thursday - no sign of MOLLY or FRED. They keep the dogs for 8 days and then put them up for sale. I went to see my dada today in WIGAN and my Neice was there. She said GMTV did a feature on Thursday about the amount of missing dogs recently. Did anyone see it? She said they reported that drugies pinch dogs to sell them on to satisfy their drug need. I read somewhere NOT to offer a reward because in the past the 'thief' will ring up and demand an extortionate reward. Once you enter into 'haggling' over the reward the police CANNOT DO ANYTHING as the law deems this as entering into a 'contract'!!!!!!!!!!! Going to spend tomorrow visiting more dog homesLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks for the kind words guys. Enough people took the time and effort to help me when Hooch was missing and thats why i am still here. It reminded me with all the bad things that go on in the world that there are still people who do care about helping others for no reason other than making someone happier, even if that person is a total stranger. Being selfless and helping another person is a great quality to have and everyone here is in my opinion an insperation of how the world could be. After hearing the news on Thursday of all the attrocities happening in London i asked myself what kind of a world were we bringing our daughter into. Then i remembered about this place and how people like you guys will spend time and effort in helping someone for no reason other than you can and it lifted me. Eilidh was born at 6.30pm on Thursday into a world where people do care about each other, even about people they have never met. Cant believe so many dogs from the same area have gone. People local to me are taking an interest, lots of people talking about dog theft recently and thats got to be down to the coverege the team here have been getting for it. For those looking at Manchester Dogs home, the Police deliver dogs that have been handed in to them on Thursday late on, best bet is to go on a friday if you can. Dont rely on phoning them, know of a few people who have found their dog after going down even tho being told over the phone that they had no dogs matching that description. Sorry for the monster post.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

H everyone - this is Geoff MOLLY'S dad. She was last seen with FRED. I have been to all the local farmers who Iam told will shoot any strays on their premises due to lambing etc. They were very helpful and promised they had not shot any dogs for almost a year. Ive done all the dog homes and rescue centres plus DOG WARDENS. Been informed last night by our neighbour that 3 other dogs are missing from our estate!! Hooch was gone 8 days and it seemed like a lot longer. Get the posters up everywhere it worked for Hooch so it will work for Fred. Funny you should say that its a ray of light on a bleak day but we had chosen a name for her months ago, Eilidh, its Gaelic and means "Bright one" or "Ray of sunlight". Couldn't be more fitting. Back to business, have you got posters up around Spotland Stadium? not sure when the next Hornets rugby match is on but it will defo be a sunday. Will ask the stadium announcer if he can ask people to keep their eyes open.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Ooh ste_dexter what a ray of light on a bleak day - congratulations! Fredsmum - never ever give up hope, someone somewhere knows something... keep going and keep shouting about Fred to all who will hear - you must make as many people aware of him as you can, that's the key. I know it sounds very easy for me to say but it really hasn't been very long since he went missing, take heart from those who have recovered their dogs, they do return, just stick with it and keep strong. xxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Being sterotypical here but i would be looking around Falinge Flats and area and maybe Wallbank Estate in Whitworth. Sure others here will back me up that when dogs go missing you tend to find them where the scrotes hang out. Also i know that you prob have already but get posters up in the park and golf club, sprinfield park as well as possibly Cowm Quarry, not sure on the spelling there but its where all the motor cross riders go off Whitworth Road on a Sunday, they may ride on other dirt track areas during the week. If i get chance will stick up posters over this side, ie Milnrow, Nehey and Shaw/Royton area but my daughter was born today so not having much time to myself at the min.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
