Thanks for all the leads, I have followed them up and unfortunately none are Sid. The little cocker found in Cramlington has not got a docked tail. The one registered on facebook is a year younger than Sid and the one found on the M22 was black and grey(speckled, chipped and is now safely back with his owners.

Just a thought but as the Olympic torch is passing through early on Monday 9th how about handing out some flyers/posters about Sid and Sasha in the town whilst you have a captive audience. Maybe worth a try at least.

It may be a long shot but a border terrier and black cocker spaniel were picked up today at Stafford services on M6. Apsrt from Sid, there is also a border terrier, Bailey, missing from the Heath and Reach area. (not a million miles away)Possible taken by travellers and dumped? worth checking anyway I thought.
sophiesuds
Is there any news of new sightings or anything for Sid. Go up the road near Billington everyday and have been searching but seen nothing so far but will keep eyes peeled and ears to the ground for both Sid and Poppy. Have you thought of leafleting local schools as well as vets in area.

Any help let me know, think of you and check site all the time, is Stanbridge still the area and if you think stolen through fence why not pup no one saw?!
Angela
I have received some info about a black spaniel today which we are investigating. It's all a bit vague at this stage but will update when I know more.
Angela
Hiya, I checked and there wasn't any football on that Sunday. The park was however, quite busy with local people as it was a lovely day. I would have thought the posters we put up would have jogged someones memory but that doesn't seem to be the case.
KOLESY
Feel really sad that your Sid is still missing. I dont drive or would be out there helping look but I have put posters up & will keep asking. I remember you said the day he went missing was football match on near your house do you know what teams they were? Maybe someone at the match picked him up or saw something that might help. Have posted Sid missing on my facebook & really hope hes back safe with you soon.

Cut and Paste from Poppy's page.

Hi Jo Scott and I are going to go up to the Stanbridge area in a bit to have a reccie, this will mean that I can get up there on Thursday afternoon and spend as much time as possible walking in the hope of spotting the dog. Unfortunately I can't get there tomorrow as I have training classes to run. We will also plan our weekend walks around the area barring the success of reuniting either Poppy or Sid or preferably both.

Angela - Jan and Scott are amazing and have put in not just hours of walking to find Poppy but months. Great people to have on Sid'd Team.
Angela
Jo, sounds like we have very similar cars. Thanks for all your help, I really appreciate it :-)
Jo
Angela, I will go over tomorrow and look for Sid. I'll take some posters of him for any lamposts that need them. I have a full dog kit in the back of my car, pilchards, white bread, leads etc. I really hope I get to use them. Keep going you are doing really well.
Angela
Was back over at stanbridge yesterday and tried to call on the Stud far too but they were not there. We did bump into a farmer whilst out looking, he wasn't aware that a black dog had been seen roaming on his land. We left a leaflet with him and he said he would have a word with the people at the Stud farm. There are loads of out buildings over that way that would make good shelters, which is kind of comforting. We checked some out, but didn't see anything. Jo I will ring you to talk. Last edited: 2012-02-28 17:01:19 by Angela

Sorry Sid isn't home yet, I look for him all the time I am out with my dog, we walk in a lot of the areas he has possibly been sighted. Plenty of posters still about and I've seen some of the yellow flyers too. Keeping everything crossed that he is home very soon, you're doing a great job.x.
DogLostKimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
Thank you everyone, especially Poppy's owner. You are so right. Perseverence pays off, even though it is so hard, day after day. But this is your mission for as long as you feel or until they are home. Dogs do suddenly come back out of the blue, even when owners have lost hope. So, never lose hope. One day it will be Sid & Poppy. God bless u both. xx
ClaireC
Hi Angela, there is an RAF station nearby (RAF Stanbridge) who may be worth contacting (ask for Adjutant or Police Flt) to see if they will message around the sections and military houses for people to keep an eye out for these dogs. I will leave this same message on Jo (Poppy's owner) page.
Jo
Cut and paste of a posting on Poppy's page by Redd_angel.

Spend around 2hrs near five bells pub in stanbridge. Unfortunately nothing to report. One lady I spoke to heard about a missing black dog that had been sighted in the area. Went to the Stud farm and spoke to one of the residents in there Accomadation units. Owner wasn't there, but he said he'll ask the owner to keep an eye out and check outbuildings. There are dogs running loose, so am not hopeful that Poppy or Sid would seek refuge there. From what I could see, the area has lots of barns/outbuildings for a dog to seek shelter.
For anyone heading out there, the 5 bells pub is actually on the junction of Leighton Rd/Tilsworth Rd/Station Rd. The Stud farm is where it says 5 Bells pub on the map.
Hope this also helps Team Sid
scootjockey
Hi Angela and Jo Im so sorry Syd and Poppy are still out there fending for themselves and hopefully they are both doing a grand job and successfully hunting and playing happily untill your back together. We now have 2 wonderfull little working Cockers and Tay a WSS who we havnt seen for almost a year since he was stolen from us.................reading Sids posts made me cry, you have such caring people ready to help and supporting you, good luck love Tays mum x
Jo
Angela, I am still following Sid's page on a daily basis. Poppy went missing in July from Champion Boarding Kennels in Bierton. This is, if following a straight line only 10 miles from the sighting of the 'cocker' as mentioned on this page. Poppy has been out now for 7 months and would not look in good condition. So, if not Sid then perhaps Poppy?
However you should not discount it being Sid. I have spent the last 7 months talking to so many people about dog behaviour. Our pets are now in the wild and doing what they can to find their way home back to us - although they seem to be doing it in a very strange way!
We must also remember that not everyone fights to find/keep their dog as we have and on my doglost search have come across 4 strays/self-walkers (as described by the owner!) Each could have been Poppy - except the dobermanX, that was just a chance encounter on a leafleting trip to find Poppy.

I know your rollercoaster of emotions about sighting and the searches,so let's talk and see if we can get this dog home and safe. I have today spoken to your sister and left a message, when you feel up to it please get in contact.

Wonder if it could be Bud? Will text owner.x
DogLostKimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
Angela, if you don't think this is Sid because of his gait and your instinct is saying no too, then it quite possibly isn't him. However, if he had been injured, he may run differently? In regards to the bolting, this is very common in lost dogs, especially if they have been on the run for a while. They often do not even recognise owners immediately because they have learnt to survive in the wild and to do so means to run. Once the dog recognises you, it may take a while for this to process in his brain, as a lot has happened to him whilst loose. They will come back to normal, just don't rush it. Wait for the dog to come to you, coaxing gently. Whoever this dog is, sounds like he needs to be caught. Do not chase, but leave smelly food in a safe location near the sighting every day at a regular time for as long as it takes. There are other ways we can advise on too. Any helpers out there that could help catch this baby? Please contact us for help and advice. This is someone's dog, or a dog needing a home. Angela, keep going, you are doing well and the posters are working well. Come on Sid, let's get you home. x
Unknown
Do hope Sid will be reunited soon. Paws and fingers xd.
Angela
Had a call today, a guy saw black cocker spaniel down A505 leighton buzzard by pass near stanbridge. All the gang out looking and we spotted the dog, it ran like stink across the field we were in and it escaped under the fence. We couldn't find it after that. It ran to what appears to be the back of the Stud Farm at Stanbridge near the five Bells. Unfortunately we didn't get close enough to see if it was him. My gut instinct tells me it wasn't him as it didn't run in the same way as Sid. Either way there is a little black dog in the area in the fields between Billington road and Stanbridge. Apparently it has been seen by loads of people and it is proving very difficult to get hold of, it certainly bolted as soon as we called out and I think if it was Sid he wouldn't have done that. Also received another call that a black dog had been seen in the Kensworth area - Isle of wight Lane near the quarry, but the guy said he thought it was a lab? oh dear how disappointing and frustrating. It has been a weird day, I was actually looking for Charlotte a Bassett that escaped from Tullian dog hotel which is just round the corner from this sighting?! Sadly I didn't see her :-(

Keep going you are doing so well. Sid is somewhere. Did you check railways and travellers sites? Need to poster these very heavily just in case. Come on Sid, where are you? x
DogLostAngus
Hi Summer, with regards to what to do when anyone finds a dog - the correct legal procedure is to contact the dog warden via the local borough council offices, they hold the register of lost and found dogs and may well have a lost report to match to the found dog, you can also call the Police and report a found dog but they don't always have the resources to make the match - many people will take a dog to be scanned by the vet but remember to keep in contact with the dog warden at all times and update them if the owner is located this way.
sophiesuds
Hi, sorry to see Sid still missing. Went up to Downside 9am on Monday morning had a good drive round but unable to see him unfortunately, but will opo up there again before the end of the week. Havbe you thought of postering the main supermarkets including Tescos as Skimpot as the hills near Downside where a lot of people walk their dogs ends near there. Definetly give posters out to Hayhoes newsagents in High st South, pets at home, Asda Sburys and their petrol station, Also keep replacing those torn down ones, obviously pricking someones conscience. Also have you thought about doing a different poster for schools, kids always like to notice 'wanted' items so to speak and they are so observant! Even visit the school and ask to speak to them inassembly maybe. Just some ideas. Sorry cant help anymore but recovering from op. Come on sid show yourself
Dog WardenCBC-dog warden
Well done Angela on getting all these posters out on Sid. I have seen them everywhere I patrol. Just a suggestion have you emailed all the surrounding council boroughs and maybe to start letting council boroughs further away if you haven't done so already. This page has a list of contact numbers for dog wardens http://www.dogwarden.org/4.html

In the area the posters are getting ripped down, it could mean that someone near has him. If so they may only walk him when its dark or they will keep him hidden for a while. Definately post the flyers through peoples doors. May jog a neighbours memory if someone does have him. Good luck x
Angela
Thanks all for keeping an eye out for him. I cant believe it is over five weeks now, he seems to have disappeared of the face of the earth. I keep thinking he is local, in which case you would think someone would have seen him unless he is being kept indoors. We have posted in Houghton regis, Tythe farm, parkside etc. A lady did actually ring me a couple of weeks back from Tyhe farm road as she thought she spotted him. Sadly the posters keep getting ripped down. My freind said she would repost some for me. Will do more door to door leaflet drops.
Berties Family
Hi, Drove around areas of sightings on saturday morning between 6am and 7.30 as I was in the area. Drove around Houghton Regis too. Spoke to a couple of dog walkers who had not known a dog was missing and I asked if they could log on for details. I did not see any dogs on their own...
Summer
Still been looking out, have seen the one with a red collar walking off lead but with people! On Lowther Road, surely if people find dogs and take them home they will be safe but never reunited, that is someones who like yourself hasn't let go but accidentally ran off and it must devastate families, it would me, the first point of call should be the local vets to check for microchip, correct me if I am wrong xxxxx

Hi Rammie, that would be great. I had a phone call last week from a guy said that he had tried to get hold of a black cocker, but it ran away. Dont know if it was Sid as it had a red collar. Angela, I am Poppy's mum and we spoke at the start of your doglost journey. I so wanted you to get the best news today and that the CCTV showed Sid. I know the rollercoaster of hope and disappointment that you must be feeling. Keep positve he is out there somewhere and you are doing all of the right things to get him back.
Angela
The lady i spoke to was coming up Tythe farm road towards Bedford square when she saw the dog going down the road. My son also spoke to the lollipop man who also saw him but he said that another lady took the dog. We are not sure what direction :-(

I have also seen the picture from the cctv footage and can confirm it is not Sid. Infact not even sure it is a spaniel, it looks scruffy and the ears are short plus it has a white marking across the back of the neck. If you want the picture I can email it to you so you can rule it out too. Let me have your email address.
So disappointing.Last edited: 2012-02-08 21:11:48 by Angela

Hi Angela. Whereabouts is Tythe Farm Road please? Just wondering if there's a chance it could be Poppy if it's not near the other sighting?
Angela
What a day, Sid sighting in Tythe farm road! Not sure if it's him but would like to discount it so will be trying to follow this up along with the Tilsworth sighting. Thanks to the kind lady that telephoned me and a big thanks to all my family & freinds that sprung into action.

I will hopefully get the picture from the cctv footage tonight, will post something when I know more.

Hi, if the picture is not of Sid then it maybe of another Black Cocker that has gone missing called Poppy (31602)and always the possibility that she is in that direction also. Please let us know whether it is Sid. Thank you

She was really helpful and has cctv and thinks she has a picture of the black cocker spaniel that was in the fields on Friday where the post lady spotted him. Hopefully I will either go and see the picture or get it emailed to me so I can identify whether it is Sid or not. Will update later.

Blackgrove Woods is in the Tilsworth/Stanbridge area, best got to by going down the Leighton buzzard bypass from Dunstable end. Unfortunately there are a few woods in that area that I am only now aware of. I have a couple of freinds looking aroud the woods now, no luck so far. I cant bare the thought of him out there in this weather :-(Last edited: 2012-02-06 14:13:43 by Angela

The lovely gentleman that I spoke to who lives out that way is going out walking his dog and will keep his eye out for him. I am gutted as we were over near that area on Saturday. Please if anyone is in the area and can help that would be great.
Cath
The possible sighting was in Tilsworth where we already have had another 3 possible sightings over the last few days so this is promising. He was spotted near the Blackgrove Woods area. We are going over later but it will be dark by the time we do, if anyone is in that area and can spend a little time having a look we'd really appreciate it, maybe take a lead as no-one has been able to keep hold of him as we don't think he still has his collar on (also some niblles to entice him!) Summer, you could always contact owners to offer your support, or you could try and watch the areas with sightings and of course poster. Sometimes dogs come out at night or early mornings when its quietest and if you have snow, watch for tracks. If you sit quietly (and maybe eat or even cook, some smelly food whilst waiting, it might help to catch a glimpse. x

Hi I live in Dunstable and can help in anyway, I have my own black cocker and think of you all the time. If now spotted in Tilsworth where and it is so cold can I help x

bumped for the sightings - good luck - Have you spoken to Nick & Richard Webb (owners) at Tilsworth Golf Centre ? I saw your signs there whilst working the other day - he may be attracted to the smells from the kitchens Last edited: 2012-02-03 20:43:01 by Angus

Hope you find Sid soon. Met the owners of little one in Spinney today they say he digs under the fence so I have given them chicken wire to try stop him. Hope they use it. Hopefully Sid will decide its much nicer & warm at home with his mum & come home now its getting colder. Also hoping that the lady that lost her Poppy gets her back safe & soon.

After a manic day, we have received very positive news that Sid maybe in a village nearby. Tilsworth is our focus and are keeping everything crossed it is him and we will find him soon. Hope everyone notices the flyers and posters and keeps their eyes peeled. These dark and very cold nights are the worst.
Angela
Thanks to all the lovely messages that keep appearing. I am trying to keep a positive outlook and have a feeling that he is not too far away. We put more posters up last night and will be out and about again tonight. I had news today that he had been seen in the same area (Spoondell) and that someone had tried to catch him but he ran away. I don't have a reason not to beleive the rumour but why oh why didn't they ring, afterall there are posters everywhere?!
KOLESY
So sorry you still havent found Sid. Dont know if you heard about my friends dog Bilbo in Cornwall he went missing down rabbit hole. Nicky his owner was told about scenting & was told to wee on rag, so much to her families disgust she did it & next day he turned up. Really hope you find him safe & soon

I'm so sorry to see that Sid is missing, my partner lives in Dunstable and we are looking after my partners sisters dog at the moment and on our walks around Dunstable (The Downs and Houghton Regis Park) this weekend we saw lots of Sid's posters so when I got home I rushed on here to see if he had been found yet but sadly I see not :-( I live in Harlow but spend most weekends at my partners in Dunstable, I lost my dog Oscar the Border Terrier cross (DogLost ID 27306) back in January 2011 but unfortunatley despite all our efforts we haven't found him yet, we have been very very unlucky! You are doing so well in searching for Sid, posters are so important and I see you have got loads up so keep going with that. I know how hard and heartbreaking losing a dog is, I was and still am absolutely devastated about losing my Ocsar. Never give up hope, after a year I still haven't given up hope on finding my Oscar. I'm sure you will find Sid just keep going and stay positive. We also had hoax calls and incidents with travellers, it is truly a horrible experience but unfortunately there are some very very nasty people out there! My partner will be out in Dunstable walking with the dog all week and will be keeping his eye out for Sid. We wish you all the luck in finding him and if you need any help or advise please just let us know. x
Angela
A massive thank you to everybody and everydoggie that turned out on this cold morning to sniff4sid. With your help, we have managed to get posters flyers and stickers out and around pretty much everywhere in Dunstable. We bumped into a couple of lads who said they saw Sid roaming around Spoondell a couple of days ago. Unfortunately after a long search we didn't find him, but keeping positive that he isn't too far from home.

A special thank you to Charlotte you have been amazing, thank you so much for the stickers. They are brilliant and are on lamposts everywhere! :-)
Angela
Golf course has been contacted along with the gliding club. Scenting is specific to where I want him to be and where he knows. Pilchards are great idea too and will be taking them with me tomorrow.
We are trying to arrange a 'sniff4sid' walk this Sunday 29th, starting in Bennetts Rec Dunstable from the carpark end at 10.30. Would like to keep it light hearted but at the same time think 'Sid' and if possible try to re-trace his steps the Sunday he went missing. If you would like to come along with your dog so they can sniff 4 Sid that would be fantastic. If you don't have a dog why not bring the kids or just yourself, walking is good for all of us!
Berties Family
can you contact the golf course and can you poster up the downs lots of dog walkers there
Berties Family
i have added details to my facebook - I think a friend lives nearby so sent poster as she is out quite often with her dogs

You're doing well. More often than not, it is a member of the public that will see the dog so keep those posters going up - hundreds! Be careful where you scent (if you are scenting as per instructions with bottle), as you don't want him running all over the place just where you can contain him safely - to stay in that area, and possibly lead him home if on a safe route. Have you plotted a triangle on the map with the sightings? You can try to predict where the next point will be. Keep going, you are doing so well! x
Jo
This is great news, hopefully when he has decided that he has had enough of freedom he will bring himself back home. It was great to talk to you, keep strong you are doing all of the right things. Scenting could enourage him to come back, the pilchards in tights is a great one for this. Good Luck and hopefully he will come home very soon. (We found that pilchards in the tomato sauce were best as they were very 'squelchy' and would could be dragged for miles).Last edited: 2012-01-26 17:22:48 by Jo

The local supermarkets have posters as does Pets at home plus all the schools in the area.
Angela
Another siting but in the Meadway and Spoondell area. This kind off makes sense as it is near home. I spoke to the family and it did seem genuine and the most positive so far. We spent some hours searching and adding more posters in the area. There is also scrub land at the back plus a farm that needs a closer look. Again if anyone lives near this area and can spare some time to look for him, that would be great. I do wish it was lighter and the rain is not helping either.

Bet you already done it but if not what about putting posters up in Pets at Home, Tesco & other supermarkets in area.
Angela
We were out last night puting posters up in the Lewsey and Park side area, but ran out again. There is a whole new estate next to Houghton Hamlets that I didn't even known existed that needs targeting. There are so many fields and scrub land he could be hiding in or someone could easily have dumped him on. If anyone lives in those areas, please put the word out.
KOLESY
Angela just seen post below was wondering now if it could of been Sid in spinney if he's been seen lewsey way & he's trying to find way home. Maybe we could get people to put posters in car windows. The more posters we can put up & make people aware he's missing the better chance of someone realising that a neighbour or someone they know has him. Really hope he's home soon couldn't bare it if one of mine went missing. Will keep looking round this area.
Angela
So far a couple of rumours that a black cocker has been seen in the Lewsey farm area, specifically near the stream end under the motorway bridge. We searched first light this morning and then again mid morning, no other sightings and regular dog walkers have not seen anything either. Have put more posters up in that area, we have done some flyers closer to home but need to get more done. What I dont need are hoax callers like the one I received yesterday. Really not impressed
Thank so much to all for keeping an eye out and for putting posters up etc. We miss him so much :-(
caroline
Sorry that Sid isn't home yet. Have been out today all round Green Lanes Dunstable down to Totternhoe kept a look out for him the whole time. Noticed some posters Dunstable end but none further on, I will do the same route early this week so can put up some further posters. Hope he is home very soon.x.

@Jo Poppys Mum Sorry only just seen your comment. I walk through spinney twice every day the cocker I saw was very scared He or She was running back & forth as if lost & kept cowering down flat on belly. I had my 2 dogs with me who I only had 3 weeks today. Big 1 kept barking & growling so I couldnt get near but will keep looking as although I have been told he belongs to family on Marsh Farm he shouldnt be running lose
KOLESY
Feeling really angry that posters that were put up in the spinney have been ripped down. I walk the spinney twice a day with my dogs & will keep looking & asking. Been told by another dog walker the little black cocker I saw belongs to a family in Marsh Farm & they had him since puppy. He's escape artist & is quiet often running free.
DogLostRiverlady
Have put Sid on twitter + will circulate.
DogLostAngus
Have suggested that owners flyer through doors in the area that posters are being removed - it MAY be that someone has taken him in and does not want posters up
DogLostAngus
Have sent owners scenting guides
Angela
Thank you to everyone that is helping to look for Sid. It has been nearly a week now and there has been no other sightings apart from the kind lady who saw a black cocker at the Spinney near Marsh Farm. I have registered him with the police as stolen now so he is on the national police database, they also have his chip details. The identity chip company has been informed and have put an alert on his file. The local vets have been contacted and posters are up, sadly though they keep being ripped down from my local park, but I will keep posting. We will be out all weekend distributing as many posters, flyers as possible. If some one has him and are not sure what to do with him, please just hand him back. There will be no come back we just want him back home. He is 9 years old and not a young dog, we all miss him terribly including his partner in crime Olly.
Jo

Hi, I'm the dog warden from central Bedfordshire. I have checked appledown kennels and they had not had a dog matching your dogs description. I have added the details into the Facebook doglost beds and bucks group and the details have already been posted on my page. Please make sure you put up loads of posters up around the rec area as someone may have some info where ur dog is or if they have seen him. I will continue to keep you informed if I hear of anything. Best wishes
caroline
I saw Sids details on a Dunstable FB site, glad he is now listed on here too, have shared his details and will look out for him. Hope he is home very soon x
