- Thank you all so much for your kind and compassionate words, We haven't been able to look at this page for a couple of days as the hurt has been unbearable but reading through the posts has helped, I wish I could thank you all individually but please believe me when I say that each and every one of your posts has brought tears to our eyes and have meant so very much to us, Sue, thank you for the poem this was absolutely lovely and summed up our feelings exactly, I collected Barney's ashes from Companions haven pet crematorium earlier today and he is now on our fireplace along with his Brother and Sister who passed many years ago, Although his is by far the smallest casket (the sheer size of this made us cry as it really hit home that he was just a baby) but it does feel good to know where he is and to picture him playing with his Brother,Sister and all of his new doggy friends at Rainbow Bridge brings warmth to our hearts, We probably will be looking for a new Puppy in the near future not to replace Barney but to fill the emptiness within our home and we feel that we still have much love to give another, thank you all once again my new found friends, its a shame that it takes tragedy to bring us together but its the coming together that really matters, to all of you grieving over lost and missing dogs our sincere thoughts and prayers go out to you we know how youe are feeling and we hope that your pet has a speedy and safe return. love Chris and Trace XX.

This is a poem Ive found on our coordinators forum, I think its very appropriate
When tomorrow starts without me and I'm not there to see
The sun will rise to find your eyes are filled with tears for me
When tomorrow starts without me, understand you must
An angel came and called my name, in her I placed my trust
Perhaps God tires of always calling the aged to His fold
And so He picks a rosebud before it can grow old
God knows how much we love them and so He picks but few
To make the land of heaven more beautiful to view
When tomorrow starts without me you’ll ask yourself, but why?
For the saddest words that mankind knows will always be "good-bye"
But I’ll still be watching over you, never to depart
When tomorrow starts without me, I’m still there in your heart
I hope Barneys owners can take some comfort from the poem and eveyones kind comments XXLast edited: 2012-02-18 18:18:00 by Mollychops- 2012-02-18 17:05 digbysmum

- We went to Westonbirt area again this morning searching the outlying areas and postering when we received a call from Westonbirt staff, Barney was unfortunately found dead in the road by a member of the Arboretum staff early this morning he had been hit by a car and judging by the injuries I would assume he died instantly, We are hurting like crazy but are glad that he's no longer scared and alone and we know where he is now. We wish to thank all of you from the bottom of our hearts for all of the help, support, advice and well wishes for Barney, I am glad that I've found this online community and will be continuing to monitor the site for other peoples lost dogs and will help out wherever I can, thank you everyone, R.I.P Barney our little boy, Mummy and Daddy love you XXXX.

- I was going to suggest putting some bedding where he was sighted, but see you are way ahead of me Mollychops! Thank goodness he was not worrying the sheep in any way. Is it time to get a trap there for him, my thoughts are with this pup to get home soon.

- Thanks Kate, yes these have been emailed Barneys posterx

- Have you contacted westonbirt school, ask them to keep an eye out. Also high grove estate nearby, they Have a lot of land surrounding the area, also the hare and hounds hotel and finally I believe beaufort polo club is nearby too. These places are all nearby so hopefully they may see barney or it's more people to spread the word.

- Thanks everyone for helping, Maria Kate and Pod.x . Thanks for Marshfield Bakery too, for the email to head office , great support for Barney going on here. Its fantstic there has been a possible sighting, Ive just tried to contact owners just now, and I do know they will be back up here this weekend, Ive emailed them scenting and plotting instructions, the other day, and did suggest they lay bedding down at the point Barney went missing, asking the Aboretums permision to do so. He is too young to be out there on his own. Its such a busy walking area, he must be keeping him self very well hidden

Let's hope this little chap is found soon!

- Have tweeted about Barney. Owners, a possible idea which has worked for us several times in the past is to get to where Barney went missing at first light when it is quiet with anyone and any dog he knows. He may be more likely then to approach/not run away. Have food, squeaky ball/ anything he knows with you to tempt him and go gently. As he is small and the area is quite flat, binoculars are another good tool when searching hedgerows etc. I will poster Stroud over the weekend. Good luck!Last edited: 2012-02-17 16:53:08 by Pod

- I've just had a phone call from a farmer who has a field which borders silk wood side of the Arboretum and on Wednesday he spotted a small white dog with collar sat on the wall of his sheep field but on approach the dog ran, this sounds like Barney as he is very timid under normal circumstances, so if anyone else spots him (fingers crossed) could we try tempting him with some treats or something, but thank you Tristan for the glimmer of hope, and thanks to everybody once again for all of your efforts, this means the world to us, thank you. Chris and Tracy.

- No worries sparkyevans and Sue - I've posted on lots of FB groups (doggy related and Glos are related, and also on Westonbirts FB page as couln't see anything on there.
Stay positive folks :-)

- Have printed posters to put up in Nailsworth as a lot of the dog owners here walk in the Arboretum regularly. Have text details on to other dog owners who will forward on details to others, will take poster to my local vets at Stinchcombe too. Hope Barney is found soon!

- Thank you Animal Magic Chelt, it means everything to us that so many people are helping and supporting us, we are having a particularly tough time tonight, what if we did this, what if we didn't do this, what if we were an extra five minutes in the car etc, etc, I suppose this is natural but it dosen't help, but thank you everybody, seeing fresh posts and more views of the poster just confirm that the wheels are still turning, fingers crossed, please come home soon Barney, we miss you so much XXXX
- 2012-02-16 21:09 Animal Magic Chelt
- Stay safe Barney - have shared on my Glos area FB page.
Is it possible for posters to go out by email to a wider area? Although they are sent out to where people live good doggy owners will walk all over and Westonbirt is very popular with the whole of the County.
-x- - 2012-02-15 21:58 Mollychops
- That was very odd? Owners are not able to return to the area , until the weekend, but they have done loads already, sounds like lots of people are aware now.
- 2012-02-15 19:24 sparkyevans
- P.S. On contacting the george vet group in Malmesbury they didn't have any record of anyone ringing to say that they had found a dog :-(
- 2012-02-15 19:21 sparkyevans
- Hi thank you all for your help and advice, We returned to Westonbirt Aboretum today with family and combed the section of woods again where Barney was last spotted unfortunately we did not find him, I've spoken to and left posters and contacts with the Aboretum staff who I may add have been absolutely wonderful so far as they are actively looking for Barney and are alerting all dog walkers as they come into the grounds, we have contacted the george vet group in Tetbury and Malmesbury, have left posters with a Mrs Glue(a wonderful lady) from Woodview Kennels just down the road from the Aboretum who has also been so kind and thoughtful, we've put posters in Westonbirt village, Tetbury and Malmesbury, The Aboretum staff have been spreading the word via Twitter and other Cyber mediums so hopefully with our fingers well and truly crossed we will be reunited with our little boy again real soon, as the void that is in our hearts and home is awful, once again thank you to everyone who has viewed Barney's poster and are helping and supporting us through this tough time, many thanks

- Have you contacted all the vets in the area and further afield incase somebody has picked him up at westonbirt and travelled home to their own vets with him?? Hope he returned home soon X
- 2012-02-15 15:09 Mollychops
- As yet no one has handed Barney in. Owners are postering the area. I will contact the Beaufort hunt who are so good at alerting farmers etc. and I will email out advice sheets to owners.
- 2012-02-15 10:03 NR
- Fingers crossed Barney gets home safely x

- Barney ran off in Westonbirt yesterday, owners live in Bristol and they are on way back now to search and poster, Dog wardens have been alerted, as have the vets in Tetbury. In fact the vets have had a call from a lady to say she had picked up a similar sounding dog, so fingers crossed this is Barney, owners are going to update me as soon as they know.
