It is also possible he ended up in the wrong hands and escaped. This may explain his odd behaviour. Just hope he is okay - keep him close. xxx

Phew! That's a relief then! so pleased for you! I'm sure you would have had lots of help from the dog walkers over there as soon as they'd known. Do you have piccies in case it happens again? I'll go somewhere else drier today then, away from the hoofprints!
Dogs are clever: long ago my dallie cross put a string of walks together in his head and made his own way home, occasionally from 5 miles away. Long before computers, DogLost, and dog theft! He'd be picked up in an instant if it was now...

Thankyou so much for your kind thoughts and advice. I just did not know what to do for the best and it really helped to know that I was able to get the message out so quickly and know that other people would be keeping an eye out for my Bertie. He was lost for 6 hours in total (seemed a lot longer) He was wet & dirty when he got back but I could not have been happier. I think he has given himself as big a fright as I had, he is very subdued and on our walk this evening he was positively clingy and he is off his food. Knowing what he is like for trying to eat anything he finds when we are out walking I think he has eaten either too much or something that has disagreed with him. I'll watch him tonight and if he is no perkier in the morning I'll take him to the vet for a check up.
