Hi, i dont know who to report this to, i was driving south on the A1 between Lincoln and Grantham this morning and about 2 miles before the Foston turnoff there was a black and white dog in the midle of the carriageway next to the barrier (looked like a boarder collie type breed), it wasnt safe to stop but the dog was definitely dead it appeared to have been hit and moved or something. I called South Kesteven District Council after being told by the RSPCA that they "weren't interested in dogs if they were dead"...but no one would pick up at SKDC so i left them a message. Just though it might be worth posting it on here as well as some of you will know other people to notify incase the dog is missing or stolen or something. I'd hate for it to have been my dog and no one to have said anything...hopefully more than just me will have reported it after driving past though so fingers crossed the owners find out somehow :-( NG31,32,33 areas - 2012-04-16 16:04 AlisonH
- Thank you for the update Abbalish. Shame it wasn't Rufus but always worth checking.

- Sadly it is not the same dog. I went up to see the dog here in kennels, he is very similar but has 4 white feet instead of 2 and is a bit bigger and slightly older than Rufus. One of our kennel staff saw the poster for Rufus and thought the 2 dogs looked alike. They do, but not 100%. have emailed owner to let him know. Fingers crossed Rufus will find his way home soon.

- We have a dog at Battersea that looks much like Rufus. This dog was found in Carshalton in Surrey 3 days ago. Rufus could have moved area in that time. Maybe worth coming to Battersea to view?

- This is what was posted on Duchess page.
"Details of the Lincoln sighting as requested: Black pointy Dog with white flash on chest seen in Burton (near Lincoln) LN1 2RB at a private yard. Wearing a brown collar (I thought eventhough Duchess's is pink it could of easily become dirtied and look brown in the month that she's been missing. I read that Rufus was wearing a brown collar though, but the Lady believes the Dog had a flash of white on chest and it looks like Rufus has 2 spots from his photo). The Lady who sighted the Dog saw the Dog 3/4 times last week. However, hasn't seen the Dog since Friday last week (23rd). She saw the Dog between 5-7pm each time (it was light and the Dog was reasonably close, she's there daily but the Dog wasn't seen in the mornings. The Dog would come across the horses field and up to the yard, last seen running off across the farmers field. The Dog didn't respond to her whistling. There's shelter there and lots of Rabbits which is good. Dog is believed to be a Whippet as the Lady met my big Lurcher and little Whippet and said the Dog was inbetween their size (which Duchess is) and looked more like my Whippet than Lurcher. She's going to continue keeping an eye out for the Dog and has the no. of a member of my Family who came with me and lives nearby and will follow up a sighting and at least be able to say if it is Duchess or another Dog. Hope Rufus is also found soon"
I haven't got an exact address but the stables are off Middle Street and seem to be across the fields from Riseholme College so it is possible to get a good idea of the area. It's a shame the dog hasn't been seen for over a week but that doesn't mean to say that the dog isn't still around. It was last seen running NE from the yard.
I've tried to message the person who first posted about seeing the dog on Facebook but haven't had any reply. People have been putting Rufus posters up that way though. - 2012-04-02 08:32 AlisonH
- gillian I did mention that sighting to the owner of Rufus but I don't have any details of the location. I would be most grateful if you were able to get details.

- It's been mentioned on Duchess's page (37496) that there has been a black greyhound type dog who has been seen around stables in Burton, just north of Lincoln. Apparently the dog was wearing a brown collar. I know Rufus's posters are being put up there but the owners may like to go and investigate for themselves. I'll see if I can get contact details for the people who have seen it.

- Not sure if this of any use..there's a dog listed as a black Labrador on the national pet register site. Finder states that the dog is bigger than a Lab and a slim/healthy build with a small amount of white on the chest. It's listed as a young adult.Dog was found in the Bradford area and is now at Fleet Lane Kennels..I know it's not exactly local to where Rufus went missing but might be worth checking out....Hope Rufus is found very soon x

- Have now spoken to the owner. Rufus was being walked when he ran into a field of sheep. The farmers were there and chased him out of the field and away from the owner. Owner could not give chase as the farmers called the police and he had to stay and talk with them. Rufus may have been zapped by the electric fence when he ran off. Owner has contacted all the authorities, handed out posters, flyers and put an appeal out on the local radio. Sadly there have been no sightings at all. I have advised he contact network rail and the highways department.
