Why don't you put posters up in various shopping centres eg Chequers and Lockmeadow in Maidstone and Tonbridge at Sainsburys. Could be she'll have been taken out and about now and will be recognised. Having just spoken to Lynn, Pheobe's owner, I can catagorically confirm that Kent Police have not been in touch with her since the bungled "visit" to the house in Tovil. Hardly keeping her informed, I'd say - and moreover the officer in charge of Pheobe's case is going on holiday for 2 weeks and no-one is taking over in his absence!!!! Justine please can you call Lynn tonight and let her know what you are planning - we must keep her updated ourselves! Keep complaining guys, Kent Police are doing absolutely sod all.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I cannot believe that the police have been so ruddy hopeless in this case. They had all the evidence to act and sort this one out. What hope have we when the "villains" cock a snoot at authority and get completely away with it. And it sounds like there's another generation of them in the making! I'm spitting feathers here so heaven knows how the owners feel. Thinking of you - ValLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Owner was outside the house when police went in AND heard her dog upstairs- at which point 4 laughing kids gestured to her from the upstairs window- knowing their "dad" was an expert at law evasion. Even the witness went forward to the police and said they were 100% sure the dog was Pheobe-yet all the police came out with was a Yorkshire Terrier-Um excuse me-but who could mix up the two? As Jane has posted earlier PLEASE everyone ring and complain-get their lines busy and lets get the justice we are paying for in tax!!!!!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

OWner to distressed to come on site so come on doggie helpers lets bombard the police and wake them up!!!! If anyone wants to complain, the calls to police in this area go to Maidstone HQ: 01622 690690 or 01622 690055 or for complaints professional.standards@kent.pnn.police.uk, telephone 01622 652323. Why do Kent Police NEVER take dog theft seriously??? Isn't it about time they caught up with Sussex, Herts, Bucks and Beds and showed these criminals that they WILL NOT GET AWAY WITH IT!! Complete cock up by the police again. I know Jayne is going to post again in a minute but we need complaints to go in. We know where Phoebe is... we have the address... and the police visited and failed to check the entire house - Phoebe was being held upstairs... police said they didn't have enough evidence despite the tip off 1 1/2 hours previously. When the owners told the police to "f**k off and get a warrant" when they asked they asked to look around the house, the police left and told owner they didn't have enough evidence to get a warrant. She is complaining. Please in the meantime poster heavily the TOVIL area of Maidstone. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

*lol* well... that I'm not sure... but they certainly didn't know what she was when contact was first made... remember these people are stupid enough to have left a trail... so they must be stupid enough not to know what they've nicked too! For those of you who have been wondering - the address we obtained orginally, the car reg plate and the name given in the recent tip off all matched. Same people, same place. Thanks to those who helped us along the way - we just now need to make sure everyone in mid Kent is aware of Phoebe, and we're not doing badly so far. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Griffmama & Rocky - thank you so much! In the Maidstone area, please keep checking posters are up? They're being removed at an alarming rate - so someone somewhere knows something! In Ashford - I'm sure you'll know where "iffy" areas are - please poster widely anywhere you think appropriate. Nik, don't be disappointed - an arrest in Kent for involvement in dog theft has been unheard of until now - this is quite a result! Even so, it seems as though Phoebe has been passed on... we need a new tip off - bear in mind she's being "marketed" as a Pug so we need to alert vets to an odd looking Pug puppy being brought in or appearing in a neighbours garden. Don't forget to put a poster in your car windows - driving around the town these posters often get curious looks - and you might just be stuck in a traffic jam in front of someone who has seen her. Still can't say stolen in case the "finder" gets scared... bear in mind still a reward available for this dog - but wherever she is now, now two men will be arrested she is definitely stolen property and anyone buying her or keeping her will be handling stolen goods. She may therefore be put out on the street. The Maidstone dog warden is aware but we all need to be vigilant that she isn't straying anywhere. I doubt she is, as she's too valuable to be dumped as she can be sold on.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Is the poster to be the same- or can it now say stolen as the police have now arrested the 2 men and mentioned that she must be passed on to someone as stolen goods??Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Warrant executed and no Pheobe found. However both men WILL be arrested on suspicion of handling her. PLEASE - SHE WAS WITH THESE MEN - THEY MUST HAVE PASSED HER ON - LETS POSTER MAIDSTONE AND ASHFORD LIKE CRAZY! SHEPWAY, SENACRE, MANGRAVET, TOVIL, PARKWOOD AND ANYWHERE ASHFORD. Have just got back from posting Tovil and mangravet area- - her face should be well known in these areas now. Tescos at Tovil have put up a poster and while shopping I kept showing everyone in the store- asking them to keep a look out. The newsagents in mangravet were very helpful and have put the poster in the centre of the shop front window for all to see- they are spreading the word. BUT Im hoping that the latest turn of events MAY be the end to this story. By the way I was SO TEMPTED as I past sutton road police HQ to ask them to put up a poster!!! Yes Jane, if we assume the police are doing nothing for now then postering at any time must help. You know the areas we are thinking of, I think. Anywhere really along the stretch of Sutton Road out to Mangravet and anywhere on prominent roads in Tovil. If nothing else it will keep him busy pulling posters down like he seems to have in Shepway. Owner confirmed to me every tree in Shepway had a poster on last week, but they weren't there when I went round on Sunday last.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

That's something - fingers crossed.x Things have got to change - how many of our dogs are not recovered through police unwilling to act? Willow (5.7.05) is a prime example - owner knew she was on a gipsy site in Orpington - surprise surprise Police not willing to go on site. Hence now Willow is moved on to god knows where. She could have been HOME if they had acted. It makes my blood boil! Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

35 complaints have been made to the police - and they have told the owner that they have done nothing. Ashford station again are being helpful and are contacting Maidstone who are doing diddly squat and owner will be called when Maidstone go out to the address to give a description of Phoebe (even though they have details and pics already!!). Owner now formally making complaint. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Unfortunately Kent Police (well the Maidstone end of it anyway) are not using their brains. They have called Phoebe's owner and asked her to walk around and see if she can spot Phoebe being walked.. in which case they'll then act. Bear in mind here we have the name of the guy holding her not the address and police won't give it to us (he is an acqaintance of the thief)... so owner has no idea where to walk... in any case... why would he walk a rare stolen dog in the street??!! Is it me or do I actually believe the thief here is one step ahead of the cops?!!!! As man is said to be nasty - he is well known in the locality - we have advised owner to go back to Ashford Police station and tell them she is being put at risk by being asked to spot her dog and that the police are not acting on receipt of information in relation to a crime against her. Feel free to keep complaining guys, this is a bloody ridiculous situation. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

This is where a public affairs strategy comes in useful. Kent seems to have set themselves up as a target. Once little Pheobe is home, I would suggest we use Kent as our guinea pig (well some sort of pig anyway....) NikLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Fingers crossed that this could be a break-through. If the police cant prove ownership then maybe the seller could produce Phoebes pedigree certificate- I THINK NOT !!! Perhaps DNA could be used- hopefully if they read this they may see they are fighting a losing battle and its one that is not going to be given up on!!!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Oh, I'm sooooo glad I live in Kent and pay my council tax. Have complained - for what it's worth. Perhaps when someone takes the law into their own hands and is hurt - they make take notice. As usual... Kent Police have said that the tip off cannot be acted upon as it is anonymous - the man is known to the police - they have also said that as Phoebe is not chipped if they found her it could not be proven it was Phobe!!! The owner then asked for a Police Complaints Form and Kent Police PUT THE PHONE DOWN ON THE OWNER. She is now heading for Ashford Police station to demand the form and to insist on action. We know that this man has TODAY offered Phoebe for sale as a PUG. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

When putting up posters- try and ask shops with good visable windows- like fish and chip shops ,pet shops, florists , newsagentsetc - ask for the poster to be in full view inside- short of breaking the window it should be safe- and if they bust the window- we can give the police the name of the likely suspect and then MAYBE it might be a CRIME !!!! MillieMoo - police don't seem to want to do an awful lot apart from phone the man and ask him if he stole Phoebe. Useful eh. Kent Police were happy to issue a statement in the press article... pity they didn't think to issue an arrest at the same time. However now we know this man is a thief and we know where he lives and what his car is, perhaps he might suddenly decide to "find" Phoebe and bring her home. Of course, we could always publish his details and then camp outside his door, which to me sounds like quite a good idea at the moment. Though I suspect Kent Police might rush round from their HQ and arrest me for harrassment!!!! Justine, I can only think the posters are being removed because someone doesn't want Phoebe's face in their vision... after all if you'd stolen her.. you wouldn't want to be reminded of it, would you. It's far too early and too "backstreet" for the council to be removing the posters. Still, if he and his family are busy removing posters, they're not out nicking other dogs aren't they so I guess we're achieving something.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

DogLostSherlock Bones Police Liaison Co-ordinator
Hi Jane, the problem with actually saying "stolen" is that it is a direct accusation, which the thief won't like - after all we have all learned that dogs are "found" not "stolen" by people. Now I know we know in this particular case we know 100% phoebe was stolen, but we need now to persuade the gypsies to "find" her and bring her home... so we need to keep the posters to "Missing" in order that they don't think the police will be preying on their doorsteps as then they might try and move her away somewhere else. I hope that makes sense.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Phoebe has been cross posted in rescuedb.com. a Kent web site for dogs and cats. Also in the Kentish express was a right up about rescuedb page 42, this will also give Phoebe more publicity. Hope you find your way home soon Phoebe.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I have given out posters at Mersham ringcraft tonight and asked everyone to copy them and put them in their cars and postoffices etc. Everyone was very shocked especially those who had met Phoebe or previously lost a dog themselves. The trauma never goes away - even with a happy ending and years passing, hearing other peoples stories reminds youLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Oh dear, the Kentish Express have got a bit carried away. Thank goodness for the picture. Phoebe is of course not shaggy but beautifully smooth. But as the saying goes "a picture's worth a 1,000 words." Despite the over the top copy, this publicity will really help. NikLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I will poster around Edenbridge and surrounds as these people pass the dogs around a bit - but not usually far. Marianxxx Phoebe is such a poppit - and will be easily recognised - fingers crossed and paws too. ps Why is this not a theft - if it was a flower pot, the police would issue a crime numberLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Please note if you've read the Kentish Express PR - Pheobe is a smooth coated floppy eared dog with red tinge to a black coat - the description there is completely wrong!!!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I am glad so many people are busy putting up posters and telling every one. Those who have never been in this situation can have no idea how devastating this can be for the owner, and those of us who have must know how much the support of helpers and doglost can mean. Keep up the good work we know it can take a while but one of these posters may be the one which brings Phoebe home.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I wonder if it would be PC of me to post her telephone number on here so that she gets strange accusing phone calls late at night, too? Wierdly, this time she had an accomplice with her. Never in my life have i spoken to anyone who didn't know who they worked for or who had to have their name whispered to them letter by letter so it could be repeated to me. Please, lets get on with finding Phoebe.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

MillyMoo, it's a toy breed, and remember Phoebe is still a puppy at 6 months, an adult would normally be about 20 cm max to the shoulder.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

The gypsies wife has just called to ask Phoebe's owner to ask if she has found the dog yet... denied the husband took the dog and then said that he put the dog down and Pheobe ran on.... asked what breed it was... she said she thought it was a Chi... gypsy said he'll be back Monday and he'll help owner look for dog... in addition at a local gypsy site a gypsy said he'll go and find out who has the dog....Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

*lol* thought the breed I'd heard wasn't right... Bruxellois is far more sensible *lol* to us stupid ignorants.. a Brussells Griffon. Fingers crossed owner is going to be shouting loudly at Kent Police today to replace the Incident Number with a Crime Number. Come on guys POSTER POSTER POSTERLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Am downloading poster and I will take copies to ring craft at Bekesbourne tonight. She is such a sweet little puppy that someone will not be able to resist showing her off and so the more people that know she is "lost" the better the chances of getting her back.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Jayne/Rach/Watson - wrong breed - she's a Griffon Brunel apparently - though I'm going to check on that again cos I can't find any record of that breed!! Either way - she's rare and as such, hot property. She was stolen from the front of her house - in daylight - in front of witnesses - by gypsies who were tarmaccing the house opposite. They have denied any involvement despite us having 3 independent witnesses to the theft. Police at the moment won't issue a crime number. The gypsies have called and left their phone number denying they took the dog - this number has been passed to the police and is a Maidstone number. Jayne please urgently email ME helpers too, as well as TN. Local pubs, camps etc are being targetted and the police have agreed to attend the house tomorrow. Give it up, thieves - you chose the wrong dog here, she'll be spotted - give her back. Please, all suggestions as to likely areas please post here urgently, we need to act quickly on this little girl. Cash reward on offer - just ring us, me, the owner - tell us you found her and we'll get her back home where she belongs. Tell us where you want to meet and we'll meet, just get Pheobe back, please. Papers being contacted tomorrow - Nik can you help? Description of vehicle involved and name of contractors obtained. All can be implicated in the theft of a dog - suggest you instead "find" pheobe. NOW. If you don't want to call owner, try me 07702 862937. I can get to Maidstone easily if that's easier...Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
