- Great news, so happy for you, he is really cute ( and very lucky!!) xx
- 2012-04-28 15:06 Linda
- Some more good news! Jack has just returned from the vet with a clean bill of health. At first he was a bit sleepy following the sedation he has had in order to have the x rays but now he has been playing with his toys in the lounge. Not bad for a dog who has been out in the cold and wet for 30 hours and has been hit by a car. Lucky dog!!!
Thanks everyone - 2012-04-28 11:30 Unknown
- Great news. Welcome home Jack, and no more slipping out of doors okay? Sending Jack absent healing for his injured leg, and am sure with lots of tlc from his family, his leg will recover well.
- 2012-04-28 11:17 Linda
- Jack has had a good night and is beginning to put some weight on his bad leg. He is at the vets at the moment having an x ray and I'll report back when we know the results.
Thanks to all - 2012-04-28 10:54 janni0706
- That is terrific news, I hope his leg is soon better but with all the tlc he will be getting I am sure he will mend. Good luck with the vets this morning with his x ray. :O)

- WE FOUND HIM!!!!!!!!!!
You won't believe it. We had all settled down, thinking we had done everything, and me and my boyfriend Alec decided we couldn't sit on the sofa, even if it was getting dark and we'd last eaten 10 hours ago. I just couldn't leave him!!!!
Anyway, we made and laminated 50 more posters with the text about looking in gardens and sheds and went looking in gardens and sheds, just thinking we could't leave him even if he was dead somewhere. We took a squeaker and were running from lampost to lampost, looking down all the alleys (and it'a proper rabbit warren around there so it took us forever).
Just as it was getting properly dark, and I was thinking it was too cold and dark to search the local golf course again, we pulled into an area multiple people had searched both today and yesterday, and we walked around squeaking the toy. We had just gotten back into the car to move to another cul de sac and I saw him out of the corner of my eye!
I shouted 'Jack!' and he looked at me and froze, and I shouted 'Jack!' again, and his tail started wagging and he dashed towards me with the most relieved look on his face (or maybe that was me just projecting!).
He wasn't using his front right leg, and I presumed he had broken his leg when he was hit by the taxi, but we rushed him over to the out of hours vets and the vet thinks he's just dehydrated and has possibly a palsy of the brachial plexus, or of his radial nerve. Anyway, his scapula might be fractured but he is going to be X-rayed in the morning.
He's had some food and water and we're currently having a glass of Champagne!
I can't express to you how happy we are. I have honestly never felt to elated in my entire life. I honestly thought we had lost him, and I have never been religious, but I might be going to church on Sunday!!!!! (Maybe)
Thanks for everyone's help. You have no idea how much the support has meant, I genuinely don't know how we would have kept going.
After hearing that he had been hit by a taxi we were all ready to give up, and Liz - if it wasn't for you I don't know how me and Alec would have regrouped and gone out hunting yet again.
My Mum also sends her most sincere thanks to everyone on here, particularly Lisa and Liz and Sue, but everyone. She can't believe we have him back. - 2012-04-27 20:31 B30
- Ok Amiethest but if you need any help just shout.
The posters on here are automatically generated but I've put something in Other Info which will print out on the poster.
More than anything posters get dogs home and you're doing all the right things, making him as high profile as possible. I know it can be hard work but the more posters that you can get out the more pairs of eyes you've got looking for him. I really hope you get some news soon XX - 2012-04-27 20:19 Amiethest
- I think we're ok as we're putting up posters everywhere asking people to check gardens but if you could do the A5 in the hope other people will leaflet? I don't know what to do, we're
trying to reach maximum people in minimum of time. - 2012-04-27 18:25 Linda
- Just about to put up fresh posters in the area asking folks to check their gardens and sheds. Have followed all the advice given by Liz the co-ordinator. Will keep in touch. Thanks everyone.
- 2012-04-27 18:11 B30
- Amiethest do you want me to do you some A5 size flyers of Jack's poster but with PLEASE CHECK YOUR GARDEN AND SHED on them? Might be quicker to push through letter boxes than knocking doors and stopping to speak to people
- 2012-04-27 18:03 Amiethest
- Please everyone from Sutton/Kirkby/Huthwaite who reads this please check your Gardens, as there are litterally thousands in the area he could be, it's like a needle in a haystack.
- 2012-04-27 17:41 Amiethest
- We think the taxi driver is mistaken as my Partners dad was with him, we're pretty sure he went down springwood view close. We've put leaflets through most doors and have spoken to all dog walkers. The problem is we just don't know where to look. We'll go asking to look in gardens again.
- 2012-04-27 17:37 Visi
- Don't let what that driver said get to you, it wasn't your fault he slipped out. Sometimes they just get past you.
I used to get Chinese from a nice place around the corner, but something about evenings just drives my girl nuts and she slipped out. She came back with the application of some bacon and rattling of the lead, but every time I ordered from there again, the woman delivering it absolutely glared at me as if I was the worst owner in the world... Would have helped if she read the "shut the gate please" on the delivery instructions...
Hope he turns up ok and wasn't injured! - 2012-04-27 17:35 Lisa123
- He may be a dog person but there is a difference between dog owners and dog lovers!! Like Sue said forget him. As I can recall this is all houses around there. Did wonder myself if he may have gone into someones garden with the weather being so bad and taken cover. Chances are not many people would go in their gardens when it is raining so much. If no news by tomorrow afternoon I am more than happy to meet up with you and help check around that area and knock on doors. Let me know x
- 2012-04-27 17:21 B30
- An attitude like that is not what you need right now but just forget about him, at least you know which direction he went in. How far from his home is the Sidalls Drive area? If he's been hurt he may be lying up somewhere, perhaps could have got into somebody's garden and looking for a hedge to lie under. What's the weather like up there? If it's wet he may be looking for shelter. You could knock doors and ask people to check in their gardens.
Are there shops in the area that have bins at the back of the premises? He'll need to look for food and you don't want people shooing him away if they see him.
If you don't already know find out which day is bin day. If people put bags out overnight it's easy pickings for a hungry dog.
Make sure you call the numbers that Liz has emailed you to check for any reports of accidents. - 2012-04-27 16:51 Unknown
- You are doing a great job in postering and making people aware of Jack. Please remain positive xx
- 2012-04-27 16:32 Amiethest
- Just had the taxi driver on the phone. Jack was hit by the front wheel and taxi driver had braked really hard before. Is telling me my dog was out of order and that he always walks his dog on a lead. Saying that we should not have let him on road. Tried to explain that he slipped out of front door, but seems intent on making my dog (who may be badly injured or dead) to be the bad guy, blaming him for an accident that never happened, and saying that if one had happened, we would have been liable.
Apparently has two dogs and is a dog person.
Anyway, I don't really care. I just want to know if my dog is still around or not. Went up Sidalls drive apparently, but we've searched all up there so I don't know what to do now. - 2012-04-27 16:06 Amiethest
- 100% sure it was him.
No word from taxi yet.
- 2012-04-27 15:23 Lisa123
- Oh bless him! Somebody got to the PO before me as they had a poster but I did stop and give a poster to 3 Ashfield district council workers who were cutting grass on the Carsic estate and asked them if they can keep their eyes open for him. If you get a sighting or some idea of the area he is in I can go and look.
- 2012-04-27 14:55 B30
- Oh no, if it was him hopefully he wasn’t badly hurt if he ran off. If you can get confirmation from the driver he might be able to give you an idea of which direction he went in.
- 2012-04-27 14:49 Amiethest
- OK. So possibly some bad news. We think he may have been hit by a taxi on the main road yesterday shortly after he got out. We've found the taxi firm and are awaiting a call from the driver. Jack ran off though.
Crossing my fingers but feeling so desperate. - 2012-04-27 14:15 Unknown
- Info and Advice sheet sent.
- 2012-04-27 14:02 apr27
- I too was thinking that he may have been taken in so as much publicity as possible is the key to finding him. Someone somewhere will know where he is. All of us on Cairn Terrier Talk are sending positive thoughts and hoping that he is soon returned home.
- 2012-04-27 13:55 Amiethest
- Thanks everyone, still no news from anywhere. Beginning to think he might have been 'taken' in if you know what I mean, with him being entire, so my Mum is going to go down to the local police station and report him as possibly being stolen rather than just missing.
We have now reported him missing to Ashfield, Mansfield and Newark dog wardens and have made both Chesterfield and Ratcliffe RSPCA branches aware of him and have posted a poster at the rescue centre in Blidworth. Going to ring Babbington next. Really don't know what else to do now.
Have Tweeted Simon Cowell as I know he has a Cairn that he really loves and would be devastated if it went missing. Will try Paul O-Grady next as he's a patron of the Cairn relief.
Please everyone keep up the publicity. Anywhere and everywhere. - 2012-04-27 13:02 Unknown
- Thank you everyone for your help xx

- Good luck everyone, I wish I lived closer but I'm following this page regularly. You're all working so hard and we have everything crossed here that he is found very soon.
I entered Jacks details here and wish I could help more but I have shared his info on my FB page. Last edited: 2012-04-27 13:21:40 by Magnscruff - 2012-04-27 12:13 Lisa123
- Have just ran up to the CO-OP at Stanton Hill and put a poster in there as a lot of people pass through from all over. Will do the PO this afternoon!
- 2012-04-27 11:34 Amiethest
- We have put posters up in all lots of vets in the area. I need this dog back. Please everyone as much publicity as possible, anywhere and everywhere!
- 2012-04-27 11:30 Lisa123
- Of course I will x
- 2012-04-27 11:27 Linda
- Thanks Lisa123. Have searched Carsic & Brierley yesterday but will do again later. Will try the rescue at Blidworth also. Could you possibly print out a poster for the PO? Thanks Linda
- 2012-04-27 09:39 Riverlady
- Have put Jack on twitter + will circulate.
- 2012-04-27 09:31 Lisa123
- Might be worth contacting Jerry Greens rescue at Blidworth if you haven't already. I have to work today but will be going to the post office on the Carsic estate later so will keep my eyes open incase he has gone that way. Can also help look over the weekend if there is no news :) Is there any chance he could have back tracked onto Brieley Park?
- 2012-04-27 09:07 Amiethest
- We're heading out now with lots more leaflets, the problem is that Jack doesn't know the area at all, he only goes on the fields at the back, never on the roads, so he has little road sense. We're going to leaflet again, and get a poster to the local police, petrol stations and the RSPCA in Chesterfield (Which I think is the closest rescue centre that non doggy people might take him to).
I rang and reported him missing to Petlog yesterday and made sure they had my Mum's home number and my partners mobile. I will add my Mum's mobile today.
The local vets also have all been given his details but we're going to take posters out today. - 2012-04-27 08:57 B30
- Thanks for the update Amiethest and well done on getting so many leaflets out. As you can see from below we’ve also emailed posters out so hopefully there should be quite a lot of people who know about Jack now. Try to anticipate his movements and where he’s headed then get posters up before he gets there so that people are already aware of him when they see him
Also, make sure that your contact details are up to date with the chip company in case anyone catches him and takes him to a vet for scanning.

- Hi everyone, I'm the owners daughter. We were out all afternoon looking and dropped about 300 leaflets in the area. From facebook we've had reports of him running across Huthwaite road in Sutton-In-Ashfield opposite the travellers rest pub. He was on the pavement headed towards Sutton-In-Ashfield town centre, ao we're starting leafleting and putting up posters that way. Please help is find him. We're so worried.

- Here's the latest message from Linda the owner...
Have done a leaflet drop in the area and will put posters up tomorrow. My daughter has tweeted and has put him on facebook and contacted schools (he was last seen fussing some school children), local MP knows and has tweeted as well and local press notified.
We've told police and dog warden too.
Have had about 4 cars circling the area since he went missing.
Fingers crossed and thanks for your help - 2012-04-26 22:51 Unknown
