Were the kennels informed of this missing dog before they rehomed her?If this story could get into all the local papers around the kennels perhaps the new owners would read it and get in touch, or a neighbour may spill the beans???Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Luci's Owner
I'm so sorry that this has happend to Bella, I truly hope you find her soon. This is such a huge mistake surely the kennels should contact the new owners & let them know, they must understand how heart broken you are. They must speak to missing dog owners often & know how devastated they are. Good luck finding Bella. I shall keep an eye out for her...x x (Luci 28.1.05)Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Well Bella was at no point 'stolen' - she was lost in Hitchin for a few days then handed over to the kennels at around 15th Sept 2004 - They had her for 7+ days and re-homed her, so from their point of view they have done their job.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just a thought - haven't the kennels been complicit in handling stolen goods (bearing in mind they knew Bella was missing) - and as such will be compelled to release her whereabouts to the police under the provisions of the Data Protection Act, in their course of investigating a crime?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thank you all for your help so far, I do not think Bella will actually be in Hitchin, more likely surrounding areas like Bedford, Sandy, Biggleswade, the dog home she was taken from is based on the A1 near Sandy so she would be close to that as a guess. Thanks ShawnLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Do the kennels who rehomed her not have a responsibility to keep a record of where dogs are rehomed to? If not, I think its highly irresponsible!! I too live in Hitchin so will keep my eyes peeled when exercising my gang. Hopefully Bella will soon be reunited with her rightful owners.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

It would be good to get one of the dog magazines to do a feature on the problems of the seven day rule and use cases like this to highlight the perils and heartbreak. Jayne - let me know what you think. NikLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Very sad situation but she's alive and being looked after - she'll come back to you - the new owners must realise what heartache it is and Bella must miss you so much too. Please let the carers do the right thing, it destroys you losing a dog and never knowing but finding it alive is a prayer answered so she must be allowed to go home. The Old Bat
Hightlighting yet again lack of co-ordination between authorities and those involved in holding/re-homing mislpaced dogs. (Actually in this case its more like gross stupidity) The sooner we can get these people to work together the better - too many owners have suffered because of this and it hasn't been their fault. I also think that the seven day rule of keeping a dog in kennels before re-homing is not long enough. Although it might not have helped in this case. Owners need time to search and check out kennels - especially when some ship dogs over 100 miles away from their original location!! - Hope you find YOUR BELLA very soon - BW - ValLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
