  • Other Info Flint went missing from Brierley Cottage Stables. Owner thinks the gate was left open and he has gone off hunting as he is a working gundog. He is 8 years old. The property is surrounded by fields and there is a single road that is not too far away. He could have been picked up or got lost. He is a very friendly dog. PLEASE call owners if you know where he is. Thank you.

Thank you all for all your help and advice. Flint is now back with us, he was found on Pointon Fen this morning. Judging by his injuries we belive he may have become trapped by his collar and unable to free himself until he lost all of his weight. He is now staying with the vet for tests etc. I am so relieved to have him back.

Hi most, Travellers Sites have a Police Community Officer allocated to each site. You could ask your local police station if there is such a being within your area. It might be that the local Council have a person that "looks" after Travellers Sites issues. Hope this helps.

It is comming up for two weeks since Flint went missing and there have been no reported sightings of him anywhere. We do have atrvellers camp at Gosberton Reisgate which is only a few miles away from where he went missing and they regularly use our fen road in search of scrap metal. How should I go about approaching them as they are known to be unfriendly?
DogLostOwl
Thank goodness you got that one safe, Chris, but sorry to see you have had no sightings of Flint as yet. I am sure he is still out there living and hunting in the fields, and of course he may have been holed up in one of those pieces of woodland during the aerial search.
ChrisS
We carried out the aerial search on Sunday but without any luck. South Holland District Council phoned me this morning to say some builders had been feeding a liver and white spaniel for about a week in Gedney. I drove over, which was 23 miles away, to fing it was a very young bitch. As the builders were moving on they were going to let the dog go loose. I have taken her to see if she is chipped. Kirk Vets in Sleaford confirm she is not chipped and she doesn't have a collar or tag. She is now at the Blackhouse Farm kennels awaiting being moved back to the South Holland district. I have taken some pictures of her and will post her here on Dog's Lost as soon as I can.
ChrisS
Thanks, Sue, I believe Phebe is also getting him into Countrymans Weekly. I will contact shooting Times today as well. I put out more posters yesterday in the Gosberton Reisgate area and also Quarrington. I have also continued the search but have not found him. The weather is too bad to commence the aerial search but it will happen when the wind drops. I will be out searching the fields again today.

Chris I'm sending Flint's advert off to the magazine today and it's due to be published on 20 June if he's not found by then.
ChrisS
Still unable to find Flint. I went back out for another 3 hours looking for him last night but with no luck. Will look again today.
ChrisS
Today we have searched the area along Sempringham Fen with the aid of Phebe and her tracker dog Whisper. We haven't found Flint yet but we believe him to be in the immediate area so we will keep looking. Out tonight in the hope of lamping him.
ChrisS
We have been out putting up posters in strategic areas where we know other dog walkers go to. We have also knocked every door and given the occupants leaflets in the following rural areas: Horbling Fen, Billingborough Fen, Sempringham Fen, Pointon Fen, Millthorpe Fen, Dowsby Fen and another Fen South of the 40 foot near Gosberton. I find it strange that out of all the people that we have spoken to nobody has seen him. Hopefully the wind will be down tommorrow and we can use the scent tracking dog.Last edited: 2012-06-05 08:51:49 by ChrisS

Thank you for all your help with this. I have posted another image of Flint and we will be continuing the search this morning. I must have walked 20 miles yesterday trying to find him and will probably do the same again today. Posters will be distributed today as well. I'll keep you informed as to how things progress.
BBKM

Spoke to owner, he has spoken to Chip company, they told him not to bother trying to contact anyone until next week. Hopefully someone has picked him up and will look after him until vets or pound and DW are contactable. I have advised him to contact local farmers and game keeper. I will check sites for him.
