Erics mum

I'll lend you for a little while, a pup of mine God said
For you to love her while she lives and mourn her when she's dead.
Maybe for twelve or fourteen years, or sometimes only three,
But will you, till I call her back, take care of her for me?

she'll bring her charms to gladden you and should her stay be brief
You'll always have her memories as solace for your grief.
I cannot promise she will stay since all from earth return,
but there are lessons taught below I want this pup to learn.

I've looked the whole world over in search of teachers true,
And from the folk that crowd life's land, I have chosen you.
Now will you give her all your love, not think the labor vain;
Nor hate me when I come to take my puppy back again?

I fancied that I heard them say, "Dear Lord, Thy will be done,
For all the joys this pup will bring, the risk of grief we'll run.
We'll shelter her with tenderness, we'll love her while we may.
And for the happiness we've never known forever grateful stay.

But should you come to call her back much sooner than we've planned,
We'll brave the bitter grief that comes and try to understand,

RIP Dash xxx

I am so, so sorry. I know words cannot comfort you right now as I can see how much you love your girl, and what wonderful human parents you are, but in time, these words by people who care about you and Dash, may help a little. I wish I could give you answers as to why these awful things happen, I have been searching so hard myself, but what I do know is that some fur babies are just so special, they have already earnt their wings so God has to call them home. What I have also noticed, is that they go to heaven quickly and God was waiting there to catch sweet Dash as she arrived. Please know Dash is fine and safe, nothing can ever harm her again. It is us humans that have the raw deal left here on earth, but, I know you would rather suffer the loss than have Dash suffer losing you. Dash is still with you and can see you all the time, watch out for those little clues. Loved ones never leave, they may be invisible to us but they're only a whisper away. Reach out and she will be there. God bless you and sweetest Dash, as she waits for you to complete your earth journey, then you will be together once more and this time, nothing can ever part you, ever again. I pray that in time your hearts may know peace. With love, Kim x

David and I would like to thank absolutely everyone of you for your help and your kind words. We are absolutely devastated, but at least we know where she is, and what happened to her. It is some comfort to know that she hasn't spent the last month cold, hungry and scared. She had a great life, and I can only hope that her death was quick. Once again many thanks to all.

Devasted by this news - so very sad for Jayne & David - since we are close by we will head off towards Paul & Mousehole and remove all the signs we can find as don't want to leave their phone numbers around for the hoaxers etc. Will also carry on up to Great Busselow to take down as many around the Moors as we can find - although you guys have put up so many it may take a few trips. So very sad that it was all in vain. Sue

Hello Everyone,

I'm extremely sad and upset to let you know that Dash has gone to Rainbow Bridge. I've just had a message from Jayne to say her body has been washed up further up the coast, near Newquay.

Jayne and David - I'm so sorry, you worked so hard to find her. I'm thinking of you.

Dash, run free at the Bridge, sweet girl xxx

Great re the press, Jayne!

Walked top of Chywoone Hill over to Paul late saturday, and fields and footpaths around Paul and Sheffield yesterday (Sunday) but no sign. Dash, where are you hiding, you little monkey!

Many more people are aware Dash is missing, so the chances of a call actually at the time of the next sighting is high! Everything crossed here that won't be long.
Dash
Hi - Sue (Wooster and Tilly) are walking their legs off - fantastic thank you all so much ! The other (media related news) is that - unprompted - the editor of The Cornishman highlighted thensearchnfor Dash when she was interviewed on local radio today (eternally grateful to her for that). I think they will also run and update story about her this week and I have booked another big half page ad. Dash now has 187,000 (with a fair wind) twitter followers nationwide, with the Cornish people and businesses taking the lead - brilliant brilliant. The Press Association have caught up with the story and I am hoping it may go national.
perranlady
Hi, just back went out to Raginnis and walked down towards Mousehole and went up each footpath as far as we could - a couple were blocked off. Gave out a couple of flyers to local dogwalkers and replaced a few of the rain damaged posters as we found them. We're back in Mousehhole tomorrow anyway, so will walk some of the other paths out of the village- but a week is a long time and she may have moved on again- as Jayne said - need more sightings ! We'll be ready to go anytime - retired so available any day ! Sue
Dash
Hi - have just finished handing out flyers at the Mousehole festival. The car park chap told me someone had sighted her in the Paul area about a week ago, and had borrowed his poster in order to call. Pity they didn't but it means two probable sightings in the same region. We walked, bbqed around Paul this morning. We are going to head back later this afternoon - ready to be down as soon as we get another clue. The hardest thing is just waiting. Renewed the radio appeals and another large ad going in The Cornishman this week. Thank you friends for all your help - it is keeping us going! Kind regards Jayne and David
perranlady
Jayne, we were thinking of you and Dash last night when the rain was lashing down. Have updated the poster with the latest sighting on my PC and printed and laminated some. Had to shop - running out of food ! Now heading out to Lamorna to look on footpaths and put up posters around the area. Hoping today is the day Dash will be seen and reported ! Sue
Baydogs
I'm over on the north coast but people come to dogwalk on the towans from far and wide so I'm spreading the word over here too. I don't have a printer, but if anyone could print me off some flyers I could hand them out to everyone I meet.

Thinking of you and sending positive thoughts for a reunion very soon.
Dash
D and I have just spent the night in a tent in a red alert storm ! Life is full of experiences but this wasn't a great one ! The weather is so against us (again). We are concentration around Paul but of course she could be anywhere. Alerted all local people in Mousehole last night and checked that her poster is still in the cottage we rented. We really need a 'I saw her an our ago' sighting to be effective... Eyeballs are the thing. Bye for now Jayne
Unknown
I am so pleased to hear she is now being spotted regulary.....maybe concentrate on the outer area of Paul/Mousehole... a bit quieter.....being so wet there may not be so many people around.Pray you find her today xx
Kat4
Brilliant news that there has been another sighting, so sorry that the weather is once again so dreadful. Here is a link to the festival http://www.seasalts.co.uk/home.html It may be a good opportunity to spread the word tomorrow as this is usually a very well attended event.
When you were staying in Mousehole had you found a particular local walk for Dash that she did regularly ?
I am just trying to think of where to concentrate on if we are walking in the area. We have walked Mousehole to Lamorna several times.
dillondog
Admin - thanks so much for bumping Dash to the top again. Owners are working so hard to find her.

C'mon Dash we're all praying you will be back with your family soon xxx

Jayne - thanks for the texts and the update! Another sighting is great news, really hope we get another one while you're here. If she's made it to Paul then she is so nearly back at Mousehole where you were staying while on holiday. It's the Sea, Salts and Sail Festival this weekend, so Mousehole and suurounding area is likely to be very busy. Maybe worth getting some flyers on the stalls in the village first thing.

Sorry I couldn't get out today, but I will tomorrow!
perranlady
Really super news - unfortunately Mousehole will be very busy this weekend - SeaSalts and Sail weekend - we were going to walk up out of the village into the fields after lunch on Sunday - hope she's found before then - Sue Last edited: 2012-07-06 17:31:48 by perranlady

Great news, really keeping fingers crossed you find Dash this weekend.

Hi Everyone - David and I are camped nr Great Bosullow - but just now had a call from a lady nr Paul who saw a black and White dog, who she now recognises from the paper/posters. Two women were following her, and the more they called and tried to catch her, the more the dog ran away. When asked the two women said the dog wasn't theirs it was lost and they were trying to catch it. Sounds like Dash's behaviour. She must be trying to get back to Mousehole, if that's the case - Hurrah - that is a five day old sighting - we are getting closer ! Heading over there now. Jayne
perranlady
We walked with our Pointers again today - from the A3071 over the top of the beacon and then along the track to Great Busello - we met a young man who worked at the Moorvue Farm & Rural Centre there, who said he had seen a dog like ours running around in the area with a black dog - for a few days - at the time he thought they had come from a farmhouse that was being renovated - we walked over there & talked to the builder who said that the owners from London had 2 black Labs and he had not seen a Black & White dog at all - have spoken to the property owner who confirmed all this and had seen nothing whilst they were there. So sadly nothing really new to report - we could not finish the round trip that we had planned as the path from Great Busellow was impassable due to big gate, pigs,Geese and a huge lake in the gateway - still knowing Pointers Dash would not have gone near either !Met several other local people - one of whom had a nearby friend who walks all over the area- so she was going to make sure she knows about Dash - have to have a day off tomorrow - things to do ! Sue
Dash
Hi - A lady called today with a great idea, which reunited her with her dog, which was to put a notice up in schools - especially mentioning the reward. After weeks of looking for her missing Doberman, two small school boys returned him within a day having scoured the areas concerned. The dog had been spotted by a local lady who reported it to both the rscpa and police, but the dots hadn't been connected and the terrified and hiding doberman remained loose. I hadne thought of schools, so if anyone is passing one, would you be kind enough to drop a poster/flyer in circling the £5,000 reward ? Onwards ! Kind regards Jayne

Brillaint piece in the Cornishman and a lovely photo...I am wondering if maybe she will be going back and forth to Gurnards Head...so maybe a sweep of the whole area is needed.xx

Sue (perranlady) that's is fantastic - thank you so much, hope you dogs enjoyed the walk ! We started out walk a Cape Corwall (the day we lost her) so I have been thinking she was heading back that way. We should be there v late tonight. Kind regards Jayne
perranlady
We took our Pointers up to Bosullow Common and walked all the way up to Nine Maidens using our gun dog whistles and calling - just in case ! We then drove towards Morvah and onwards to Trewellard and back towards Penzance - mentioned Dash to any dog walkers we met - saw posters as we drove. Will hopefully try further towards St Just and Cape Cornwall. SueLast edited: 2012-07-04 20:30:28 by perranlady

Yesterday we lost our internet connection and it is still playing up....
Dillondog- thanks for returning my text message, didn't reply as it was so late and didn't want to disturb you.

Just wanted people to know that I talked to a dog walking friend yesterday evening - he plans to take his pair of English pointers for a walk around Bosullow and as they look like Dash wanted to avoid any false sightings.....One is an older female, the other a young neutered male.
Dash
Hi - just thinking I will head back and camp for a few days in Bosullow to search. Can't get there until really late Thursday, due to a family bereavement, so 'sub for me' until then ! Jayne
Dash
Hi everyone - thanks for the instant fantastic action ! I don't know if you remember we were 'scammed' by Nigerians who threatened unspeakable things if we didn't send cash, well The Cornishman are running some editorial about it in this weeks edition, and I have asked they mention the sighting. Come on Dash, just one more appearance will tell us so much. Jayne

That is great news, Jayne.
Thank you for the e mail, Jenny - have been out of reach of the computer this evening. I have already distributed flyers and posters in Mousehole and Lamorna - will try and get out again tomorrow but have business meetings scheduled for most of tomorrow and Wednesday. Am now e mailing a few friends in the St Just and Mousehole areas with the news of this sighting.
I am afraid the weather forecast is very wet, yet more sea mist....

Fantastic news, will head that way tomorrow morning, working pm, & then until weekend. It's great she is approaching people. Need a let up in this weather. Did the lady say what the weather was like when she spotted Dash by any chance?

Dash
Hi all - A SIGHTING !! I just received a call from a lady who lives in Great Bosullow. She had seen Dash Missing in The Cornishman and recognised her absolutely as a dog who had approached her a week and a half ago in her garden in Great Bosullow. She said that the dog came along a lane from Little Bosullow and tried to approach her - but the lady shooed the dog away and chased her off. This means that Dash seems to be heading via inland towards cape cornwall , maybe ? Please please anyone in the area please if you have a moment poster that area ? Am so pleased she has been spotted - she is alive ! Jayne

I was wondering if a piece should be put in horse and hounds or similar just incase she has been taken up country?

We are so praying for you Dash please come home xx

Ironically this afternoon the weather has taken a turn for the better with the wretched mist gone, sunny although still quite a strong wind. The local publicity has certainly made a lot of people aware that Dash is missing and lots of people we know are making a detour, as we did earlier, in the hope of a sighting of Dash.

I had such hopes when Zac was here but of course the heavy rain will have washed away the scents...

Dash
Hi All - David has just finished a 5 day camp out in the land near Gurnards Head - dawn and dusk BBQ's but no sight of her, he is on his way back at the moment - all very depressing I have to say. SuzeeBee - thanks for the good idea! Trying very hard to stay positive and trying very hard to remember that some dogs take a few weeks to be reunited. Keeping the faith - she is there somewhere ! Many thanks all round for your support - Dash and I both so appreciate it. Jayne

This company run 30min helicopter flights along the coast from St Ives for £99 maybe worth a try or contact to see if they would look out for Dash when out. Just trying to think of any ideas, I am miles away in Suffolk but it looks to be such a vast area difficult to search by road. She is a large dog so could be spotted from the air. I hope you have good news very soon. Stay safe Dash your family are trying so hard to find you. x
dillondog
I meant to say too, thank you to Sue, Central co-ordinator, for amending and adding to Dash's photos to show her markings clearly from different angles. Much appreciated!
dillondog
I'm updating on behalf of Jayne and David: David is camping out and having bbqs in farmer's field close to where we think Dash was last seen at Gurnard's Head. No sigh so far, but the weather is vile - thick sea fog and as we've hit dusk, high winds.

Also reported sighting of another pointer on the loose today in St Ives. Rebecca has kindly checked this out (thanks so much!) and doesn't appear to be the pointer from the last sightings which were a red herring, but who knows? David was going to have a scout around too just in case.

Dash, please show yourself and give us a clue. Time to go home now. Team Dash are not giving up!Last edited: 2012-06-29 08:56:38 by dillondog

I hope Zac brings Dash home soon.just ignore evil bloke, this is a common practice now in so many lost dogs, sadly some people believe them and will pay....but luckily were possible the owners are told it is just a con , pigs of people who prey on the vunerable .!!
Tell David to start breakfast about 4 am because it is very light here now and that is when she will be out hunting.I am away for a couple of days but as soon as I get back I will start posting on the campsites in the local area. Keep strong that she is out there waiting to be spotted. and will soon be home xxLast edited: 2012-06-26 21:31:18
Dash
Hello all - Jayne here. Dash's doggie chum Zac has been taken to Gurnards Head for a few days to pee around the area - she will recognise him as she always spends holidays with Zac when we go out of the country. My husband David is heading back to Cornwall tomorrow until Sunday to camp n the area and do dawn/dusk BBQ to get t he smell of cooking meat floating about. I am hopeful that The Cornishman will do some editorial about her (and the evil Nigerian conman, who threatened to behead her if I didn't transfer him money) on Thursday, and a she will be mentioned in the Zenner section of the paper. Keep the faith and we will spot her . Thanks again to all - your help is keeping me sane - Jayne x

Still circulating on twitter.

Just need one sighting then we will know where to look. Doing good on the posters.

Yesterday we distributed flyers to walkers on the coastal path and on Saturday gave out a lot to people at Mazey Day asking them to spread the word. Also saw my vet on Saturday and asked her to put Dash's details on Twitter as she is building up a good local following.Have handed flyers to an acquaintance who lives at Pendeen and asked her to pass them on.
Found another friend has friends who farm near St Just and passed on flyers for them to circulate. I was told this morning that there had been another mention on Radio Cornwall. The more publicity the better....
dillondog
More flyers distributed this morning to the farms and houses around Keigwin (hamlet near Morvah) and heading up the moor towards Chun.

It was pouring late morning/early afternoon, and I'm sure Dash will be snuggled up somewhwere out of the weather.Last edited: 2012-06-25 17:18:29 by dillondog

Jayne here - I just have a feeling she is still out there, frightened and hiding, we just need some one to spot her - once we can identify an area for certain we have a chance. Thanks so much to all helping us - she is such a sweet, sensitive and kind dog, it is worth every last bit of effort. We won't give up untIl we get her. Huge thanks again to all, your help is humbling to David and I .

Well as soon as you hear anything Keran let me know and I will be there......just hard at the moment with no firm sightings, but saying that she will have to show herself sometime.x

We now really need some positive sightings of dash. I have taken to driving weird & wonderful ways home from work, just keeping an eye on all the countryside. Jayne has had to go back to London, but we are all here to support & help @ this end. x
Kat4
So relieved to hear that all the mine shafts were clear and well done to all the people who searched them.

I am afraid all I have been able to do in the last couple of days is to continue to hand out flyers, e mail various people and today is a working day for us so won't be able to search this afternoon either.

Will be out tomorrow afternoon looking for Dash and putting up more posters in the areas mentioned by dillondog.
Unknown
Great news that the mine shafts have all been found to be clear.I will be over there tomorrow afternoon if anybody else is free.
dillondog
The possible sighting was phoned in to Jayne this morning, and was in the evening of either thursday or friday last week - so a couple of days after Dash went missing. I suspect Dash is disorientated, especially as she is a long way from her home environment. She is mostly likely hiding up and venturing out at dawn and dusk. There are so many places for her to hide, and plenty of water and potential food sources. As it is such a rural area, it's not surprising that she's being so elusive.

Many thanks to Roy and Daryl who came out this afternoon to check the remaining shafts - what a relief they are clear! I've put up more posters across the moor from Morvah to Madron. We could do with more around St Just, Cape Cornwall and the coast road to Pendeen. Dash also had a mention in the St Ives Times and Echo weekly newspaper.
Dash
We have had reports from a local photographer who was at Gurnards Head 8 days ago that he saw a black and white dog running loose approx 500m away. The sighting was at dusk and the dog was to the west of Gurnards so close to where she was lost. We are therefore refocusing the search around this area.
All the mines have been searched and are empty. We are extremely grateful to all who have helped us to date and remain hopeful. Jayne will be camping out and lighting barbecues in the hope of attracting Dash
Unknown
Any news at about the mine searches at all?
dillondog
I met up with Jayne this evening to catch up. Today the fire brigade came out and checked 3 of the mine shafts close to point of loss at Gurnard's Head - nothing found, which is heartening. There are other shafts to check, and the mine exploration team are coming out tomorrow to search. Thanks to all for generously giving their time and expertise. Jayne has made good contact with farmers, and has also worked hard today getting lots more posters up. Many more people are aware she's missing, and are looking out for her. Fingers crossed for some positive news on Dash very soon.

Has anyone contacted all the farms in this area. Maybe worth emailing a poster or posting them one.
Unknown
Today I drove from St.Ives to St.Just.stopping several times .....it is such a vast area and with the awful rain she is going to be held up somewhere.I noticed there are lots of shelters for sheep and farms and smallholdings in the outer area.So there is plenty of protection..what we need is a clear sighting so maybe more posters ..I will be able to meet saturday afternoon at Gunards head if anyone is interested , maybe do a wider search of the area.Jayne we had a lurcher on the moors that escaped everyone for over a year, but he was caught in the end...... also Marsha on here was captured after 9 months..not saying that it will take that long but just to say dogs are very resourceful, all we need is one show, so come on Dash.x
Dash
Following the unfortunate red herring of the St Ives car park dog, we're pretty much back to square one. We are continuing our search in south west Cornwall. Yet again can we thank everyone so, so much for their continued support.
Unknown
Maybe we need to get together on a larger scale for a search from where Dash first went missing..........dogs that are running loose do tend to keep to one area and the more eyes about at anyone time the better.Jayne when you park you car at the spot you did last time is it possible for you to hang some used clothes on the ariel or similar?I was thinking it may sent the scent to her.Last edited: 2012-06-21 06:12:53

It certainly has been a day of highs and lows, very sad that it ended in such disappointment. Hope the adverts tomorrow will result in more people being aware of Dash's predicament.
We have distributed posters in PZ and Newlyn, sorting office, library, businesses in Chapel Street, Causewayhead,Market Jew Street and given out quite a few flyers to dog walkers. Also posters are in the PO and shop at Goldsithney, through the letterboxes in Marazion - just covering everywhere we have been where tourists and walkers may be. Will do more in the morning and will be available late afternoon for more searching - am in touch with Jayne regularly so will see if there are any new leads. If not perhaps if a few of us could cover the Gurnards Head area again ? And see if we can put more posters in that area.
Indie's mam
Its been a roller coaster of a day. After receiving a text message from Jayne regarding the sightings today, myself and my husband headed over to St Ives to help search, we finally ended up in the big car park at the leisure centre. No sooner had we parked, we spotted a pointer. My husband rushed over to find it was the lady we had spoken to on Monday. She confirmed she did live in that first house off the field but also that her dog had escaped earlier today, at the time of the sightings :-( she said that her dog may have escaped more than she had first realised and all of the sighting maybe have been of her dog!! After speaking with Jayne we headed to Gurnards Head and walked to the cross roads where Jayne had advised but unfortunately didnt see anything :-(
Unknown
It may be a good idea to put posters in Penzance as it is Glowen week....but in my mind Dash will still be on the moors.........I will get over there on Saturday, or sooner if possible, but as I said earlier all the camp sites in the area need to be notified as they moslty cook outside.....
dillondog
Just spoken to Jayne, and am really disappointed to confirm that the St Ives sightings are indeed a local pointer escapee. We really need to concentate on getting more flyers out and increasing local awareness. Any help with putting up posters etc would be greatly appreciated.
Dash
We understand that the sightings were not Dash, but a local dog who keeps escaping. We do not therefore know for sure that Dash is in St Ives.
DogLostZim3
Hi Keran, Sounds a bit of a coincidence if it wasn't Dash. I wonder if she was picking up on the sound of Jayne's car, we all know how dogs can tell our engine noise from a long distance away, and if she was holding up fairly close that would account for her turning up while Jayne was gone. Did we ever do scent with Tooki or is it just something she does naturally. You have been working hard, at least Tooki should be sleeping.
keran
Hi, tooki did a good job this morning, tracking with limited scent, she took me on routes I have never taken her before. We were out a good 3 hours. I got a lift back into town as we continued to vorvas over the fields. Just as we drove by the car park I saw a man putting a pointer into a van, by the collar no lead, I have given company name to jayne & we are looking into it. Jayne is staking out car park. It's pouring down now, so no doubt dash will be sheltering. I'll pop down later to see jayne, but will be working for next 5 days, can do early & late scans, but not daytime ones. x
DogLostZim3
All good news especially if she is coming to the car park during the day.Don't know the Industrial estate there but would be worth checking out workers and the fire station staff. Well done Keran, now you know what your days off are for. Zim
dillondog
Just seen post below - great news! Jayne - if you see her, remember, softly softly approach and no direct eye contact.
dillondog
Thanks lizs!

I met up with Jayne first thing, checked area surrounding car park, handed out more flyers. Was dry overnight/this morning, but now pouring, not helpful! Keran went out with her dog Tookie to try and track, using Dash's scent. Poss tracked to back of industrial estate and fire station. I feel loads more posters are key to getting Dash home. Not nearly enough people know she is missing. Large ad in Cornishman tomorrow (and West Briton etc) which will help spread the word. Jayne (owner) is here until Friday. I'm stuck with work commitments for rest of today.
Dash
Positive sighting (confirmed by multiple people) of Dash at 2pm in the big car park in St Ives. Jayne was unfortunately just down the road following up on an earlier sighting, got back as soon as she could, but missed Dash by 10 minutes!
lizs
One of my facebook friends suggested contacting the local bridleways association to let them know - many of us ride and as Dash isnt afraid of horses that ight be a good way to look on the moors etc not so easy to do the coast path this way as there are lots of stiles and barbed wire altho as we live here I can ride across the fields and get onto the cliffs down by the sea at Bosigran cliff castle. All my dog loving friends are on the case :)
Dash
Jayne has been advised to BBQ sausages at dawn and dusk, as this is when Dash is most likely to be hunting for food and the smell will carry a long way. She tried this at 5am today - no sucess as yet. She is searching in the area today.
Unknown
There are quite a few camp sites in the area of Gunards Head it may an idea to get some posters up there,(I cant get there for a day or two )so if anybody is near to hand that would be great....while not totally dismissing St.Ives, I have a feeling she is on the moors somewhere.....there is plenty to eat(rabbits) and drink there, it may need a more concentrated search around there from where she went missing.
Kat4
Thanks to dillondog we have been able to distribute posters and flyers around Penzance today - with Golowan, the local festival, being in full swing there are people from all over the area in town.

Will wait to see what is happening tomorrow as don't want to impede the search if Keran's dog is tracking Dash's scent but will do more poster distribution and see how things are in the afternoon.
Indie's mam
Unfortunately, we haven't been able to get out and search today. Fingers crossed there is another sighting tomorrow. We may be free to help search tomorrow late afternoon/early evening. Good Luck to everyone searching tomorrow :-)
dillondog
Moogie, I believe something will be in the press on thursday. All vets have been notified, but please feel free to check.

Lizs - thanks so much for posting on here. Glad you received a flyer! Please can you inform as many of your neighbours and local friends as possible? If you click on 'view poster' you can then email it. Hope that helps.

Dash - show yourself please!

I'm meeting Jayne first thing tomorrow morning, will post any updates here.Last edited: 2012-06-19 22:15:58 by dillondog

Are there adds in the local press? Also would an article in Cornishman/west Briton about your plight in losing dash whilst on holiday. Free publicity and will be read by many. I know this has been done with others who have lost their dogs on holiday
keran
Brill lizs, I took my boxer boy up the big hill at bosigran this afternoon to get a good view of the area, no joy, but it was very hot, saw lots of posters & flyers on my way out there, good job Diane it is hard to stop on that road. Will catch up later x
lizs
We've just received a flyer onto our car in the farmyard here at Bosigran which is very close indeed to the Gurnards Head. So sorry to hear about Dash and have just ben catching up with all the posts. My husband has gone out to walk his dog and will be keeping an eye out and we will search all our buildings, unfortunately we have a collie and a terrier neither of which are good scent dogs but am sure they would let us know if they saw another dog. As most of the searching appears to have been in the St Ives direction we can start exploring more towards the Morvah/Pendeen area, I will post onto my facebook page too so that my freinds who are local can help (do the vets at Rosevean know?) There is lots of fresh water and plenty of rabbits and shelter around so lets hope she is just hiding away and that she will soon be found.
Dash
Just to say Dash remains missing, and we are still concentrating on the St Ives to Zennor area. Jayne is on her way down now to continue searching. We’re very encouraged to have had two confirmed sightings, so we’re now concentrating on narrowing down her location, so that we can put ourselves in the best position to meet up with her.

Thank you all so much for your continued efforts,

James

Just back home from an afternoon of searching and postering. Met up with Keran and Jenny4 in St Ives. Poster put up at attendant's hut in car park. We walked the footpaths and lanes that back on to this area. No sign - but not surprising, it's a hot day and even if Dash was around, I'm sure she'd be resting in the cool. There is some confusion about the sighting - as Keran says, there is a local black and white pointer that apparently is known to go walkabout round here. However, after checking with Jayne this afternoon, she tells me that the original sighting was phoned in by someone who has a pointer themselves. My gut feeling is that it is unlikely Dash would come over to St Ives because it is so busy. The area where she was lost is very rural - mainly farmland between the coast and coast road, then inland over Penwith Moor. I headed back to Zennor and Gurnard's Head, handed out flyers and put up posters, though hard to stop at times as single lane traffic! We need loads more posters and increased awareness, and that all important confirmed sighting. Headed home over the moor, and stopped everyone I saw.
keran
Have been out postering & searching in area where possibly sighted in st.ives with Jen & dillons mum. No joy, we believe from talking to people that another pointer frequently does a runner in that area, & could easily have been mistaken for dash. Chances are she's still rural around gurnards head way. Will head that way to continue search later, as its very hot now she is possiblly sleeping somewhere quiet & shaded. x
Unknown
hy Keran, will meet you and Diane at 2 ....x
DogLostOwl
keran, delighted to see you and your dog are helping in the search. I have a scent dog as well and was sad that we are just too far away to do anything. Wishing you the best of luck, may the wind and weather be in your favour.
Kat4
Keran I have texted Jayne with your number and explained you need more info as I am not sure when she will have the chance to log on here as she has a long journey today.

This does sound promising, everything crossed for Dash.xx
keran
My mobile number is 07773333289 if I get stalkers so be it lol. I will go look today and jayne can contact me later on I will meet her what ever time it is. I'll go through scent work with her, I know all the paths up there. I can bring a couple of slip leads. Just need to know if she is approachable by dogs &Wo people she does not know. The lanes lead eventually to the woods where she may feel safer during the day. But really need to know how she generally is with strangers as she will be scared now & don't want to frighten her any more. Zim it'll be tooki ;-) . Jen contact me when your free I'll meet you by swimming pool. Text is best way to contact me x
Kat4
Keran, fantastic to have somebody who really knows the area. Fingers crossed that your dog can help...
jenny4, I have had a look at the land you mention, adjacent to the public loos. Couldn't quite work out who it belonged to or what it is used for but perhaps Keran will know ?
Dillondog and I have now exchanged numbers and she is kindly going to drop some posters in to me which is great as goodness knows how long it will take for me to set up the new printer...
DogLostZim3
Pleased you checked in Keran, good luck tomorrow, which dog are you using?
dillondog
Keran, great you are very local. Owners are not in area again until very late tomorrow evening. If you are free wednesday morning after the school run that would be great! Jayne's (owner) mobile is 07776131135, she expects to be in the car park through the night/very early. If you would like me to email you smaller flyers to hand out, see earlier post below for my email address.
Unknown
Hy Keran, when I went around the fields above the carpark i noticed a couple of pathways into the bushes, I couldnt get into them as they were only dog/fox size....its quite dark in there and wonder if a torch would be handy to throw some light inside. Also there is quite a bit of scrub land on the opposite side of the park, I noticed it as I was leaving on the right hand side.I have to work in the morning but can be there later.x
keran
That area in st.ives is one of my usual walks, I live 5 mins from the car park. Will go look tomorrow, is she likely to approach other dogs, as one of mine is a good scent dog if anyone has anything of hers, like a blanket etc, I could meet you in car park, after I drop kids to school @ 9.00. I have day off work tomorrow x
Dash
Everyone has given such good updates, I’m not sure there’s much more that we can add. Dash remains missing, and your continued support is truly appreciated.
dillondog
Meant to say too that I'm relatively free to get to any sightings at short notice.
dillondog
Just had long chat with Jayne. David has had to return home, and Jayne will be driving down tomorrow evening to stay for a few days. I can get posters printed, and I've also made up flyers - 3 to a page. Kat4, Indie's Mam and Jenny4 - please email me if you would like smaller flyers to print yourselves. Would be good to have your numbers too. My email is diana@blue-earth.co.uk Don't want to put my numbers on here! Have arranged to meet up with Jayne first thing wednesday.
Kat4
We have also been having a look around those fields, Indie's mam, only just got home and I had a chat with Jayne earlier. She has alerted all the local taxi firms and the bus company re Dash following the other sighting you passed on. Despite David's search from before dawn, Dash has not shown herself today.
I think it is very likely that she has made a den in a hedgerow in one of those fields at the back of Trenwith car park. Jayne says that Dash is comfortable around horses and there are several in the small fields.

Unfortunately my printer is still not working so am unable to produce more until the new one arrives and is set up. I was able to talk to several dog wakers and alert them to Dash but we definitely need more posters. It would be good to brief the parking attendant - so far we have not seen anybody in the booth.
Indie's mam
Been out searching again in St Ives, Checked the fields at the back of the car parks again. Spoke to two women with a pointer, one advised she'd seen a pointer on Friday evening when out on her horse in the same area as the sighting on Sunday. She first thought it was her friends dog but then realised they had different markings. Both woman are going to spread the word and have a poster to put in the stables. Also put a poster in the vets and one behind the reception desk in the leisure centre.
Unknown
I have driven through back way to St.Ives part way to Zennor , and the car park ....looked all around and saw a few places where she could have gone, but as there are so many foxes in the area it is hard to say if she had been there. It was packed with cars, I heard a dog barking but sadly it was not Dash.It is such a vast area to cover without new sightings its a bit like a needle in a haystack......needs more posters up and around if possible, I forgot to take any but will do some tonight. We need to be able to localise new sightings .I wonder if she will be near the centre tonight , lots of food places there.
dillondog
Will try and get over there tomorrow, if not this evening. Sorry I've not been able to help sooner, I've been away.

Any further sightings today?
Indie's mam
We can head over there now to search again. Is David still searching the fields or has be moved on?
Dash
Just an update to say that David has been looking for her since 4.30am but with no success yet. He's checked all the fields/lanes near the car park. He's still looking in the St Ives area. Thank you.

Have added her to pirate fm help desk on their website asking for it to be read out regularly. I suggest all the stations are called with this new sighting and get them to read it out regularly.

I assume she will still be in the St.Ives area , will head that way after work today .....get hold of the vets etc there also the dog warden.0300 1234 212 would be a good idea to notify the police in St.Ives incase anyone reports her to them.
I work in Crowlas so will put a poster up as lots of people are living in the outer areas there.Last edited: 2012-06-18 06:03:30

Great news re sighting. Is it worth scenting around the car park to keep her interested in this area?
Indie's mam
not long been back from searching,we searched over the fields behind Trenwith and around Steeple Woods, calling her name as we went and spoke to everyone we passed about her, then went back through St Ives to the car parks. We then drove along to Zennor, then back to Halsetown but unfortunately didnt see Dash :( Hope there is another sighting soon.
Dash
Thank you all for following up on this sighting so quickly – this is very encouraging. David (07801 928929) is expecting to arrive in St Ives around 1am, and will spend an hour searching, before resuming first thing in the morning. Jayne (07776 131135) is staying at home to help co-ordinate.
Kat4
Thank you Riverlady.

This sighting does seem positive - the person who saw her has been e mailed a photo and confirms this was just like the dog he saw. Also Dash's family say this is likely behaviour and she had in fact been taken to this car park a couple of days before she was lost.

We drove straight over to search for Dash, met Indie's mam in the car park which is called Trenwith. This also adjoins the St Ives Leisure Centre. There is a smaller car park opposite this and public loos.
A link to the car parks
http://www.stivesparking.co.uk/stivespublicparking.htm

No sign of Dash on the road or in the car parks. I feel she may have run back to the small fields which are behind Trenwith and made a den. A big area, horses and other livestock but no roads which is good.
Saw several locals and made them aware of Dash. But no sightings. Have driven twice on the road to Zennor but that is a huge area of farmland, moors, NT land. Stopped when we saw dog walkers to alert them.
Anyway one of Dash's family is on his way back to Cornwall now to search the area, Dash may respond to his whistle.

We will be able to help search again late tomorrow afternoon - if anybody else can help this is the area to concentrate on. Would be great if anybody local to St Ives who knows the area could help.
DogLostRiverlady
Have put Dash on twitter + will circulate.
Kat4
Just had a call from Dash's family to say that there has been a possible sighting of Dash in the area of the big car park at St Ives. By herself, running around, barking and going towards Zennor.

We are going over there now so if anybody else is searching please concentrate on this area.
Kat4
Thanks for the info on radio stations, Moogie. Have all these been contacted J and J ?

Yesterday I walked the Mousehole to Lamorna coast path and looked in the woods. Very muddy, no signs. Walked back over the fields. Then in the evening covered some of the Zennor coast path.
Much better weather first thing today and walked from Morvah. No sign.
Yesterday was the beginning of the Golowan festival here in Penzance which attracts a lot of visitors so will try and get more posters up in town. Having trouble with my printer now.

If there are any sightings we will go to wherever - otherwise we will switch our walks so we are covering the coast path at some point every day. Please note that in parts it is very muddy and slippy...

Oh and also have started alerting caravan and camping sites as walking the coastal path is a very popular holiday activity.
Dash
Again, I’d just like to say a massive thank you to everyone who has contacted us, been out looking, and given their support. We’ve been truly overwhelmed by the response - it restores your faith in the goodness of people. Dash remains missing, but I know with the support we’ve had, we stand the best possible chance of finding her.

Thank you so much,

James
Indie's mam
After speaking to Dash's owner this morning we went out searching again
for a few hours. We parked up at Zennor and walked a little way along the coastal path making people we passed aware of Dash, but we again had our little boy with us who is only 2 so we were unable to continue when the path got to rocky. We headed back to the car and left a poster in the pub and also in the back packers place. We then had a very slow drive along past Gurnards Head and parked up again to have a look about. We then continued our slow drive through to Pendeen (??) where we left another poster in the pub. And then finally drove down to Cape Cornwall where we had a look about and passed a poster onto to a group of people with dogs who then set off walking the coastal path. Fingers crossed Dash is found safe and well soon.

Dash's family have contacted radio, newspapers and I also contacted the BBC. There are paid ads appearing in newspapers next week but let's hope that Dash is found before then.

Do you have a list of all Cornish radio stations, Moogie ? So we can double check, thank you.
DogLostMoogie - Area Volunteer, Cornwall
Have all radio stations been contacted to get her read out on air during the day. This has really helped in the past.
DogLostMoogie - Area Volunteer, Cornwall
Have text a friend who lives in the area with links and phone numbers to help look out and spread the word. Also on facebook group 'please look out for these missing dogs in cornwall' http://www.facebook.com/groups/57604322163/?ref=notif&notif_t=group_r2j

Bit more info - Dash and family were staying in Mousehole - everybody in the village is on the alert in caseshe tries to make her way back there.

The walk began at Cape Cornwall and finished at Gurnards Head - the family have been concentrating their efforts searching between Morvah and Zennor. Dash is a slightly nervous and gentle girl and they feel she may well be hiding in a derelict building, etc. I think most dogs will make a den after a few days on the loose. Have to remember that Dash could now be anywhere so the more publicity the better.

Lots of positive thoughts for Dash and we will be out and about looking for her again later.
DogLostZim3
Have posted on St Just Agility facebook page and mine and e-mailed to all doggy clients in area.
Kat4
Hi Indie's mam, I understand she was lost on the coastal path so could have gone in any direction, perhaps towards St Just or Zennor. The pointers we know can cover quite a distance quickly and there are lots of interesting diversions for a dog around there...Dash's family have my number and we will also go to any area if there is a sighting. Maybe you could text them your number as as you say signals are not good here. Just hope that Dash has found somewhere safe to shelter and that she is reunited asap.
Indie's mam
hi Kat4, I see what you mean about it being a wide open area, we had a drive up there tonight. We drove up to to Gurnards Head via Penzance, parked up for a bit and had a look about, then drove towards St Just. Unfortunately didn't see Dash. We couldnt stay out too long either as we had our little boy out with us.I tried to call Dash's owners whilst i was out but had no signal :( Were they staying close to where she was last sighted? Could she try and make her way back there?? Do we know which direction she ran off in? If there were to be any sightings over the weekend we can head straight up there, although it would take us half an hour to get there. I agree with Owl, i think she could still be in the area, there seems to be a lot of out houses she could use for shelter and plenty of rabbits. Fingers crossed for a sighting soon.
DogLostMoogie - Area Volunteer, Cornwall
Really sorry Dash is missing. I have sent an email to Network Cornwall memebers (over 3000) with info, contact numbers and links and anyone who can help in this area. Hope she's founds soon x

Thank you all so much for your help and advice. Dash is unfortunately still lost, but we continue to search.
DogLostOwl
Thank you Kat4, Indie's mam and dillondog. We have to keep our minds open to all possibilities but knowing a little about the ways of the breed I think it's most likely she is still out exploring and found shelter when the weather got bad.
Kat4
Hi Indie's mam I don't know the area very well either, not our usual dog walking place. Dash's family have been searching for her now for 4 days, no sighting. The weather is appalling so she may well have found a hiding place but this is such a wide open area, she may have gone miles. The coastguards are aware and I sugested that the family talk to the fire service for general advice re mine shafts. Lots of posters around, vets, newspapers, local radio informed. A friend farms near Zennor and is now aware, notes to other farmers have been delivered by the family.
Dash's family are on holiday here and have to return tomorrow which is terrible for them. Have asked them to let me know if there are any sightings so we can follow them up.For the moment I think all we can do is walk around the Treen area and other parts of the path and keep on the alert. But stay safe as the weather is truly awful. Dash's family are very worried that she may have been stolen so the more information and posters the better and over a wide area.
I am not an expert in finding missing dogs so all advice gratefully received.
dillondog
I'm local, but currently away....back Monday, and will be very happy to help, but hope Dash will be home before then.
Indie's mam
Hi, i live in Helston so not that far away, i dont know thae area where dash is, but if given more information i could get my husband to give me a lift there tonight and/or tomorrow to help search!

Will check in the morning to see if there is any news, everything crossed that Dash is found quickly.
