- So so sorry for you, it's so sad, I know only too well, I also lost my gorgeous greyhound who ended up jumping onto the tracks at London Bridge 18 months ago after she escaped on one of her walks, and she was never to be seen again. So I know how devastating it is when you try hard and an accident happens.
So so sad, thinking of you - 2012-06-23 13:56 Leona*
- Run free gorgeous lad xx

- Such a tragedy - and could have been avoided if Nework Rail had a brain. I hope they rot slowly in hell too! Poor little man, poor Steve and family, my sad thoughts are certainly with you.
- 2012-06-22 13:45 mallyboo
- Steve and Family, sending you love and hugs at this awful time. Hope Max rests in peace (even though he will be with you always) and Network Rail rot in hell x

- So very, very sorry to hear another sad story and another young chap taken by the railways. We were heavily involved in the search for Badger and shed many tears there as he met the same fate and we had the most awful experience with Network Rail - we really do need to do something about this and all support Cassie's Campaign. For now am sending my sincere condolences to Max's family and for Max, run free, run safe, with the sun on your back and a breeze in your face young lad xxx

- Steve, I am so truly sorry. My heart breaks for you. I couldn't comment till now as I am typing through tears for you and your sweet Max. He would not have known anything. As Kookie said, he was too good for this world - remember that. He is your Max, now and forever, nothing and no one, not a train or nasty Network Rail, can ever take that away from you. I know they have taken Max from you physically, but his soul, his spirit, is always with you. Right now, it is too hard to think of anything else, I know. I wish we could all sue Network Rail, but sadly there is no law that makes them accountable - yet. I know, I have tried. However, there are things you can do and you will not be alone (see our noticeboard when you are ready). Right now, you need to get through today, tonight and this week and every week after. You have to do this for Max. I believe God takes our special ones too soon for us but it is because they have already earnt their wings. He takes them quickly, without pain because they are so special. Max is okay now. He is safe and whole in heaven. He can be with you wherever you go. It is us humans that get the raw deal, still here on earth. But years from now, when the time is right, you and Max will be together again and this time you will never, ever part! I am told when we meet our loved ones again, it will be like only minutes have passed as time is different in heaven. I truly believe that, I have to or I could not go on, so you have to believe too. Reach out for him and he will feel your caress - he really is just a whisper away. God bless you and sweetest Max. In time, may your hearts know peace. xxx

- Oh how terrible. This is the outcome I had been dreading. So many lost this way (and Network Rail have the nerve to state that "on average one dog a month is lost this way" - utter joke). (See article on Cassie in the Dogs today magazine). I am so sorry that Max wasn't caught in time, and I am so very, very sorry. My thoughts are with Steve and his family at this awful time. Max was a beautiful young dog. Run free at the bridge lovely boy xx

- Oh I am so, so sorry to read this news, my sincere condolences to you syoung70 and your family. This could and should have been totally preventable, some jobsworths need to get their heads out from up their as...s!!! I do hope you sue Network Rail...if nothing else then Darling Max will not have lost his life for nothing...if you can bring this to the public attention then perhaps we wouldn`t lose dogs in this awful way. This must have been a nightmare come true, I am so sorry, God Bless You Max, you will always be loved poppet.

- Yet another cock up from Network Rail..a friends dog was hit by a train just outside a local station but yet it still took a month to find this out and by that time her dogs body had been cremated along with all other animal bodies collected from the roadside

- At the end of the day a life is a life whether it is human or animal and the staff of Network Rail need to wake up to this. Look at how long trains have to be stopped for when a human is on the line sometimes upwards of 2 hours they should never have chased poor Max from the closed line. I have a white GSD who is very nervous and she would have just run to get away can Network Rail not train their staff NOT to chase animals as it will always end in tragedy when they are frightened and unsure. I hope you do sue them for their actions as it may make them take some notice of the best way to proceed in the future if a similar situation should arise. Sorry for ranting on I just feel so sad for you all. Julie x

- I am just devastated for you - am sitting here in tears. Network rail need to learn from their dreadful mistakes - bugger the commuters they would just have to wait. Such a terrible tragedy. Thinking of you and sending love for you and dear Max. Julie
- 2012-06-21 19:38 syoung70
- plausible deniabilty,is a great saying when they f**k it up this network rail guy was nice but a joke, out of his depth and totally blinkered. did not listen to a word i said, because he knew best! the question is best for who?
i had the fire brigade on stand by as my son is a fireman, and they all agree they could have saved him if only the network rail guy made the call, but of course he didnt as he didnt require any help for a DOG - 2012-06-21 19:31 Cat
- So very very sorry you got your wings Max, him upstairs must have had a very special job for you to do, he only takes the best so young. Shine bright and fly high over the bridge. Your soul is where it's always been - right by the side of your humans. Some bonds can never be broken.xxx Network rail have so much to answer for. This was so avoidable and it's about time they were accountable for their actions. It appears that no matter which part of the country this happens in, none of them learn. If it was a cow on the track i'm damn sure they would slow their trains down despite the delayed commuters!!
- 2012-06-21 19:18 syoung70
- heres a good one, network rail man said this is the forth time ive been here trying to get this dog, my answer so why did you not ring me then?
his answer we didnt have your number
err yes you did, as i made sure every one had
1 man turned up this morning, got thwarted cause max ran back past him, then called for back up then they drove max off the closed line onto the non closed line, then had 15 minutes to slow the trains down, but could not be bothered as nothing must slow down people getting into london.
and after he was hit it then took them 10 minutes to reach his body, i could have been there in two, so annoyed and angry - 2012-06-21 19:07 skippy
- So very sorry to hear this. Run free gorgeous! :((((

- Steve, he has been on loose and is probably quite stressed, so his brain will need time to process that this is you. Don't worry, it is natural as he needs to survive. Give him time, just sit there and take smelly sardines and warm garlic for the smell. He should gradually come to you. We can get a trap but I think this won't be needed if you have patience and don't chase, if need be just follow quietly at a distance out of sight. Make little noises that he knows is you and he will slowly realise this. Well done. On tenterhooks here. Call us if you need to! Come on Max, its your daddy! x
- 2012-06-21 00:16 syoung70
- sorry forgot to add, that he looked healthy
- 2012-06-21 00:15 syoung70
- we have found Max, but we are in the process of effecting a rescue as he is in the same place as pinpointed by TomK
although we have searched this area many times, we tried again from a different angle and found him.
however he bolted again but did not go far, he just hid. have laid down scent and food and water for him.
I am going to try and bait him from 4 in the morning, if he does not respond then i will hit the 999 button at approx 7.30am

With all good wishes. Julie x

- Thank you for posting, Steve and good news, well done. Remember dogs do come back to the same places, so you must keep watching there. Keep scenting the area away from the lines to keep him away. Keep in touch with Network Rail, as they forget, despite what they say. Also call the operating company of the line i.e. the name on the trains. Ask if their drivers can look out for Max because they are higher up and get a better view further afield. Poster at least a couple of miles outwards. You can do it! Let's find Max. x
- 2012-06-19 06:11 syoung70
- good morning everybody, I would just like to say thank you to you all for your help in trying to find max, my friend and I searched the line 3 times yesterday as far up as the sewage works, and am reasonably confident he has left the line
steve - 2012-06-18 23:17 Kimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
- Oh, thank goodness it seems he has moved away from the line, but bear in mind he will still try to get back home if he can. Need to keep monitoring the line to keep him safe, somehow. Maybe scent away from the line and leave something for him to lie on, well scented, to keep him that side of it until he is seen? Don't really want him crossing it again. Good about the cables though. TomK I think we are all truly grateful for you assistance on this. x

- Is there anyone local who could put a poster up in G and M Growers - big farm shop/animal feed place on the road off the A1 going towards Old Warden? Lots of local people shop there, also the Sainsbury's on the A1 roundabout. I am quite a few miles from here so not easy to get to the area until Thursday.
- 2012-06-18 17:01 meggie
- Postered Shortmead Lane, southern end of Footpath 19 on 10 acre field adjacent railway, sewage farm entrance and entrance to Biggleswade Common by Furzenhall Farm. Searched route shown on attached map.

- I have just spoken to a very nice lady at RSPB Sandy who has taken all Max's details and will pass them on to the people on the gate etc. It might be worth someone also taking some posters up there as walkers walk through the reserve and then over the common.
- 2012-06-18 13:13 BaileyP
- Yes Dee. Big area not far from the railway line. The area is VERY close to the A1 dual carriageway too which is a fast, busy road. I hope he doesn't try to cross that. Biggleswade is on the eastern side of the A1 and the railway runs to the east of it too. The area is an mixture of open countryside with lots of fields with grazing animals on the large heaths there, woodland near the RSPB reserve and the rail and A1 road.Last edited: 2012-06-18 13:15:42 by BaileyP

- Have texted someone I know who teaches agility in the area near the station at Sandy which is north of Biggleswade. Told her Max is in the area and have given owner's number. She is going to keep a look out for him.
The RSPB bird reserve isn't too far from the area too at Sandy - can someone ring them. I'm at work so can't do it until later. Their reserve isn't far from that train line. I'll try to email them a poster if I can find an email address. There is a large common at Sandy too again not far from the train line. - 2012-06-18 11:28 Sherlock Bones Police Liaison Co-ordinator
- meggie, owner is going to Biggleswade Common to poster and scent - has travelled line in both directions without any success. He is apparently on opposite side from line that you were postering so if you can continue as far as you can on your side then we have both sides covered. it would seem that somehow Max has exited the line, we just need to find where! He was only 50 yards from his house when seen so could've gone either way... thanks for your help, really appreciated! x
- 2012-06-18 11:10 meggie
- Checked rail line from Furzenhall crossing southwards to Crab Lane Bridge. Used binoculars to check lines. Left poster with gent in Urban Way, spoke to dog walkers in Furzenhall Road. Will poster again later, OH soaked from wading through cornfield!
- 2012-06-18 10:36 Unknown
- Oh dear, hope he is found ok. He is a stunning dog.
- 2012-06-18 09:32 TomK
- No worries, hope it was helpful. I did forget to mention that he was travelling north at the time of the sighting, away from the railway station.
Good luck!

- Oh nooo! Thank you TomK. I have advised owners to check with the railways already, so will send them some more info on how to get help. Appreciate this as if he is there, with some help they could locate him. If he isn't, hopefully they can rule it out. Local Co Ord - I have sent a basic email to owner but will now send some more, just to help out whilst this is urgent. xx

- Hello,
I saw this dog from my train window, he was by the side of the railway on Sunday 17th June at 8.35pm. He was panting, and slightly uneasy about the train passing by, and as the train passed, he sat down in the undergrowth. Perhaps stressed, but he otherwise looked OK.
This was just north of the railway station, I have marked the exact position on this map:
http://tomkiss.net/stuff/images/dog.jpg
I was worried for the animal being so close to the train line, so I googled out of curiosity, whilst i was on my train to Kings Cross - and was surprised to find this page with the photo, almost an exact match of the position I saw him in, on the first page of search results.
I phoned the owner within 10 minutes of the sighting and also sent a message containing the map soon after.
However there was no reply so I am posting this here additionally, though it is now two hours later.
I hope you catch him and that he is safe! - 2012-06-17 10:16 Jayne - Founder Doglost.
