I received a telephone call very early on Friday morning from a farmer in Norton-le Clay who had been woken up by the barking of his dog which lived in a kennel just outside his house. As the dog did not normally bark, he got out of bed to investigate. He saw Millie, who had her front paws on his small latch gate and was looking into his paved back yard. He knew about Millie because he had been visited by my brother in law the previous day, and had been asked to keep a look out for her - hence his call to me. Very sensibly he did not try and approach her, but did carefully put some food out of his back door. Whilst Millie was busy eating the food he managed to exit the house and shut the small gate such that she could only escape with a fairly big jump over the wall. As it turned out she didn't even try to escape and he managed without difficulty to attach a lead. I arrived about 15 minutes later to find a very happy dog.She'd lost a little weight but not much and took no time at all to adjust to her old self, even when she got home. She was however extremely thirsty - a bit surprising considering how much standing water was about. Many thanks again to all those who have helped and especially to Owl, mini girl and Tracy. Millie will be going to the vet for a check up on Monday, but other than a long standing problem with a shoulder ligament I don't think there will be much wrong with her.

Millie recovered at 6.15 am this morning at a farm very close to Norton-le-Clay. Seems well and very happy to be home.
Enormous thanks to all who have assisted over the last few days. I will post further details of circumstances of recovery later today.

How very frustrating, but she is probably still in the fields around Norton-le-Clay and if she starts eating there I expect you will connect with her soon. I recommend cooking up some bacon and sausages on a picnic stove to attract her.

Millie was seen last night circa 10pm between the village of Norton-le-Clay and the Southern end of Dishforth Airfield. She was first seen near the houses on the Eastern side of the airfield but then made her way to Norton-le-Clay (a very short distance). A group of army men from Dishforth were trying to catch her when my brother arrived, but unfortunately she took fright and went off before my brother had the opportunity of approaching her on his own. I was not around last night and only heard about this when I got home at about midnight. Good news is that this is a very positive sighting in the same general area as before. Bad news is that sadly it didn't lead to a retrieval. I've just been up to the area but no sign. Left some dog food in her bowl where she was seen. Although the area is densely cropped with wheat, barley etc (very big fields) the area where she was seen is quite close to housing perhaps indicating that she is foraging around habitation when it is quiet.

Tracy, in this case they can't encourage her back to the last definite sighting or leave anything there as it was on the verge of the motorway. It is maybe 3 miles from the sighting before that, which we tracked from. We ended up in fields near a pig farm close to Kirkby Hill, and were getting air scent from the west, the direction of the motorway. We are assuming that Millie left the motorway and is somewhere to the east of it, and is probably still the wrong side of the river from home. There are plenty of rabbits and there is water everywhere. Gamekeepers are aware.

We usually advise NOT to call dog- but to sit or crouch & talk to yourself if needs be. dogs are naturally inquisitive, she will probably come closer if you ignore her until she 'remembers' dogs are creatures of habit but sometimes you have to find the right 'switch or trigger' for them. could be a particular toy, or smell. Go back to area sighted- prefereably with unwashed items- and leave nearby.
Dogs can track a scent better than us, she may be on the doorstep- but keeping out of the way. If you have any game keeprs speak to them also riding schools. Food & water are priority.
Dont worry too much that its been a couple of days. Usually it takes a couple of days for the 'adventure' to become boring.

Many Thanks to Owl and Wispa for their help yesterday. And also to TracyB. We've checked all obvious barns stables etc, but the area in which she has been sighted is pretty big and its impossible to check all the farm buildings as they tend to be very large indeed. We have however covered the obvious ones and have spoken to all of them and asked them to keep a good look out. Would you expect Millie to respond to a call of her name bearing in mind what has happened ?
There was one possible sighting yesterday afternoon, but unfortunately it was not 100 % positive as it may well have been a farmers dog that was seen. It was however in the same kind of area as previous sightings.

Many thanks to Owl and Wispa who have been tracking for Millie today.
Possible sighting of Millie reported at 3.20 running along the side of the A1 between Boroughbridge and Dishforth.
Owners have spoken to local radio for an appeal about this possible sighting. poster also emailed over to Northern Echo newsdesk who have said they will try to put out an alert.

There has been a report of a sighting of a dog matching Millie's description yesterday afternoon in Womberton,around 3 miles northeast from where she went missing across the River Ure.

Please speak to local radio station. I remember Millie from capturing her the first time ound. I dont think she will have gone too far.
Have you checked all the barns/stables & outbuildings, Hay stacks , she will have gone for the quietest darkest place away from the noise.
Little bbq & sausages may work although not sure where she is.
Can come up on Saturday - sorry but working every day til then. Hope you find her before then

Have a look at found dog 40681 found in WF14, might be a bit far but if she's been picked up then dumped it could be.

Many thanks to Dawn and mini girl and all other offers of help. We now know the general direction Millie took and general consensus is that she is hiding out locally in wood or hedgerow much as she did when we first found her nearly 4 years ago. Just anxiously waiting for a positive sighting.

Millie went missing from home around 10pm on Saturday evening after being spooked by a noise. The area she has gone missing in is very rural.
There have been no reported sightings of Millie since she went missing.When she went missing she was wearing a black canvas collar with ID tag. She is MICROCHIPPED and has been flagged up as missing with the microchip company.She has also been reported to all the relevant authorities.
Owner is postering the area.
There is a chance that Millie has gone into hiding-scenting information emailed.
Hoping for news of Millie very soon

I can put posters up in York - live in town near the River and the A19/A59 junctions. Our dog warden is on 01904 551530 or 01904 552299 and email animal.health@york.gov.uk. The dog warden in Luton has a full list of all the dog wardens in the country if you email dog@luton.gov.uk they will happily send you a copy. I emailed the whole list when my dog was taken and got her back from a warden hundreds of miles away!
