So good to hear, Gabriella and thank you for the lovely text. His paws are sore from running, looking for you, I suspect. But he did well, as he found you! Clever boy, Duke. Well done for all your hard work Gabriella, you did it! You got your boy back home. Hope the gash heals okay. Has he been to the vets? Just need to make sure it doesn't get infected I suppose. Poor little mite. We would love to have you as a helper. You are already registered on here so just check back on your registration and click to receive "alerts" or "updates" and you will be informed when a dog goes missing in your area. Make sure you save the changes. Then you can help the owner, help poster, leave messages. In fact, you can leave messages wherever you like right now to support other owners. Thank you so much and welcome home Dukey boy!xxx

Hope Duke soon recovers from his sore paws and gashed chest. Get better soon Duke, and no more running off okay?xxx
Gabriella
Hi everyone, sorry for the late response I was a little preoccupied getting Duke cleaned up and settled. I found him at Wickford Park (part by the lake) just purely by luck. I had been calling and he came out then decided after running to towards each other he would turn around and run the other way. Typical thick boxer. He was very scared so my cousin and I split up to look for him. It was only by chance that when finishing a call to her as to a what to do next plan i stopped walking and shook my head to see him right next to me laying in some tall grass. I called him and he just laid there but managed to slowly get to him so he did not run again and then he jumped all over me in relief. He has sore cut paws and gash in his chest and saw chin, very thin but he has been cleaned up and fed and seems ok. I would like to thank you all again. This website is amazing and I hope i can help someone else one day the same way you all helped Duke and I xxx

Gabriella, if this is near to a station, suggest you hand out posters to all the drivers as they pull in. They can look out for him! x
jeepsmi
If you go down to Barleylands Recycling Centre, again around six am, you will find the dustmen gathered there prior to taking out the refuse lorries. If you ask them they will probably all take a poster in their cabs with them. If you see any milkmen, they may well do the same, although there seems to be less milk deliveries around these days.

Hi Gabriella, we are keeping our eyes and ears open for Duke. Definitely contact Wickford neighbourhood policing team they really are terrific and know the area well. Their email address can be found on the Essex police website it will be worth emailing the pcso's his details as they patrol and have scanners. I will be out in the park tomorrow again and will keep you informed if I hear anything.
Gabriella
Thanks for the additional ideas everyone I will do that now. Really appreciate your help

How about putting some posts up at the Station, maybe in the Ticket Office window and on the platform, if he is laying low and coming out in the early hours you may find as the Wick is walking distance to the Station that a City communter spots him... Fab Idea about the posties taking a poster with them, also there is a group called Friends of Wick Park, email contact clee11@btinternet.com try emailing and see if they will do a mail shot to all members, there are also rangers that cover that park, contact via Basildon Council Phone: 01268 562921 or 01268 550088 (Countryside Services). come on Duke lets get you home x

One of my two was lost in Wickford for a week a few years ago. We believe that he hid up under hedges, fences etc during the day, and came out at night, which of course made sightings more difficult. He was eventually spotted at 5.30 in the morning, by someone who had been given a poster by a postman, and she called Wickford Police, who rang us. It's worth telling them about your dog. It's also worth going to the Post Sorting Office in Wickford around six in the morning and asking the postmen if they will all take a poster each in case they see him. In our case they all took a bundle and put them thro doors. Have faith and don't give up. I got my boy back safe and sound, lets hope you do too. Julie x
Gabriella
Hi all, yes he is good with dogs and very friendly. The sighting was at around 6.30am this morning. My guess is because he is scared and does not know the area he might not come out when called. Yes he is or was wearing a collar, it was black. Thank you for putting the posters up for me. You will know its him as he has a white thin stripe on the back oh his head. Thanks again x
carolsdogs
Is that another sighting since this morning ? if so where was it this time ?
DogLostKimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
Well done everyone. Bumped due to sighting. Now, remember do not chase, as he may be scared, but do coax him, call him to you. Take some hot, smelly food. So close now, you can do this! x
carolsdogs
Hi , sadly we spent an hour walking around the Wick country park between 11/12 this morn but nothing , and we were calling him all the time , have there been anymore sightings today ? i have put a couple of posters up around us as we get school traffic , so lots of kids and mums and dads about to see them ( it's very hot here today though ) so he could just be in the bushes somewhere staying cool , Copper M the poster says he's tagged , so i'd say yes to him wearing a collar (; Last edited: 2012-06-26 13:11:04 by carolsdogs
CopperM
Did Duke have a collar on when he went missing? Would he approach other dogs to say hello and play?
carolsdogs
Hi Gabriella , is he good with other dogs , and do you think he would come over to us ? we are going out shortly and will go over to the park for a look around first ( plus we will take some food )Last edited: 2012-06-26 09:51:11 by carolsdogs
Gabriella
Hi all. Duke was sighted again this morning at The Wick Country Park. Please can you look out for him as he seems to have settled there. Please can you call him over and call me as I have someone in the area to pick him up.
Gabriella
P.S all comments taken on board thank you so will make contact with them all.
Gabriella
Thank you so much everybody we are so devestated i feel like i have lost one of my children. He went missing at around 2ish on Sunday afternoon. He escaped from my cousins back garden. He headed we believe down Station Road rather than to the fields at the back of her house as we were told somebody had seen him. He does not know the area at all so must be terrified. He is very friendly. Please if anyone sees him please pick him up an if he is with someone call the police and dont let them out of sight. Posters went up around the area last night. Thank you again. We just want our boy home and safe.
Spangles
Just a thought, hit the cab firms around the Station, ask all of them to put a poster in their cab, a fare might just know something. Also hit all the shops in the high street with posters. Can we have a bit more info of how he went missing, do we know what direction he took off in?
carolsdogs
We are on the front part of the Wick so will def keep a lookout on walks and when around in the car , how and when did he actually get lost poor boy ? we always keep a spare collar and lead in the car too , just incase we ever come across a stray etc ( after catching a lovely stray Goldie on a main road while on holiday once ) i hope he's safe .

Emailed owner. Do we know how he went missing?
CopperM
I'll keep my eyes open in the fields behind Alderney Gardens playing field...
Sorry to mention this, but have you contacted Railtrack or asked at Wickford station?
Spangles
Spreading the word on Facebook, hope this little man is home really soon x
