Animal Magic Chelt
Hoping to see news on here :-(
ClaireC
There is a SS on Found Site Dog ID 47651. Might be worth a check or tele call. No picture as yet. It could be that Smudge has been picked up and dumped as a possibility. Good luck.
BBKM
Don't think the dog below is Smudge.....but pleased this lad has been saved. Hope Smudge is home safe very soon, I will keep cross checking all sites x

Mollychops
Ive bumped Smudges page as he has been in the local paper in the last week, Ive only just found out
Animal Magic Chelt
Come on Smudge - get home now.
-x-
Ernie
Really sorry to hear he's still missing. So frustrating if he got scared away. I'm doing a long walk around Leckhampton Hill tomorrow morning and will keep a look out.
DogLostOwl
Ernie, that explains what happened to the trap one night! Trap has now been removed, as Smudge has moved on. A herd of cattle broke out one night and trampled through the wood where Smudge was mostly living, and they seem to have scared him off. We think he will still be living and hunting around Leckhampton Hill, though which side of it was don't know.
Animal Magic Chelt
Still hoping to pop by and see good news.
-x-
Ernie
Someone from work told me that their dog got caught in a trap on Leckhampton Hill and I didn't realise it had been put there for Smudge! I was worried someone was out trapping dogs to steal them.

Hope you get him back soon x
Mollychops
Hollys owners are happy to speak about cameras, Helen said please call her, but leave until after 5pm
Mollychops
Thanks for updating Sam , Regarding the camera , Hollys [SN7] owners will be able to help you with that, give them a ring Im sure Helen will help x Its very much a waiting game when they are surviving on their wits as Helen knows only to well !
Sam
Have been seting trap and staying up where we think he is. No sightings reported, but we are leaving food and scenting etc. Off up there again tonight with pickles and his auntie Rosie(v noisy Jack Russell who used to love chasing Smudge through corn fields) Next step is to get camera installed. Any geeks availale for advice on what I need? Thanks everyone for your support xx
Sallieanne1
Have there even been any sightings recently?
ClaireC
Any update?
DogLostOwl
Not so far, it will take time and patience.

Thanks Mollychops and everyone who helped get a trap organised.

Good luck - hope Smudge is home safe with you soon!x
Mollychops
Owner is picking trap up tonight
Mollychops
Ive left a message for owner re the details of friend who has the trap
Mollychops
just left a message with a friend for her trap she is in Bristol
Mollychops
My local helper has her trap up in the midlands atmn, she suggests Cheltnahm dogs home they have one apparantly , tho maybe connectd with this DW .Ive got someone else I can try now . BTW Im no expert on trapping Sam thats Phebe /owl who is fantastic.
Sam
Have not seen any sighn of him for 2 days now but are continuing to go up to where he was last seen and scent and leave food. Dog warden said the trap was a bad idea at this stage as I might catch a badger or a fox and as they are quite noisy when they are set off it coud frighten off Smudge if he is nearby. I disagree. I will contact Molychops for expert opinion. x
Mollychops
My trap is in use at the moment with Holly oxfordshire, but ive just had email from a helper that might know of one locally
Laraine
Just a thought - Blue Cross head office is in Burford - not too far from Chelt.- would they have a trap they could lend you?
Animal Magic Chelt
Sounds promising :-)
Sorry, don't know of a dog trap but if I can help with anything shout as I'm local.
-x-
DogLostOwl
Smudge's family know the area he is in and have been doing everything to attract him. This is working so far. We need to give them space to gain his trust, so I would rather not say anything about the exact area at present. But if anyone knows of an available dog trap within reach of Cheltenham please say so.
Animal Magic Chelt
Ohhhhh fingers crossed he's getting closer to home :-)
-x-
Mollychops
just had a message from Owl to say Smudge was sighted again last night. Will update when I find out where exactly
BBKM
You are all doing great, I keep checking here hoping to see Smudge in the blue. Come on boy, stay safe, hope you have a cozy den, but be seen so we can get you home and out of this awful weather. Good luck x
Mollychops
Thanks for updating Sam, Its not easy in this awful weather we are getting today , as Smudge will be sheltering somewhere dry im sure. You are doing great !! I tried to get you earlier. Please give me a call when you can
Sam
Smudge was seen running along Pilley Lane which is just past the Suzuk/citroen garage up Leckhampton hill. We went looking and postering up there and the surrounding area, hopefully he is headig back to Dog kennel wood. We have left food and scented there and are heading back this evening...really looking forward to it in this weather! Poor Smudge must be miserable x
Sallieanne1
Can you please be more specific about exactly where and what time he was seen. We all want to help get smudge home but need up to date and specific info to know where to look. He was previously seen in leckhampton and princess elizabeth way etc so just saying 'where previously seen' is not detailed enough for us all to then help look in the right places. Can you clarify the specific details of this and any future sightings please???
DogLostReynard
Oh! great, come on Smudge xxx
Mollychops
Thqnks Owl, I will contact Sam later on.
DogLostOwl
Sighting phoned in today of Smudge running along a road yesterday, close to previous sightings.
Animal Magic Chelt
Any more news Sam? :-)
-x-
Sam
Thanks Mollychops have got s& p info. Thanks Sallyanne & Peter for your help. No more sightings but on Friday I left some food in his bowl and on Saturday when I returned the bowl had been moved to a quiet under the hedge area and the grass was flattenned next to it,characteristic of Snudge behaviour. Stayed up on Saturday but no sign. Yesterday left food up there, had been eaten when went up today but no bowl movement (excuse the pun)
Mollychops
Huge thanks Sallieanne1 and also Peter _Rock for all your kind help here
Mollychops
Sam please let me know you got the scenting and plotting info
Sallieanne1
Anymore sightings Sam? We spent over an hour up there last night walking round the edge of the woods calling smudges name. X
Mollychops
sam im going to send you some scenting and plotting info to reaD. Good luck, he is so close now, im sure it wont be long !
Sam
The woods he was seen going last night into is called dogkennel woods, which is a few fields uphill from St Peters Church off Church road. He was spotted in the fields the other side of the wood about 3 weeks ago so he seems to be using that as a base. am going to leave some smelly food around there this evening. I think he may be travelling to Chel via streams and tributaries as every sighting has been near a stream. Thank you everyone for your support xLast edited: 2012-07-27 13:46:24 by Sam
peter_rock
Guys, Can I ask that you be really specific with any sightings. We have been out looking for Smudge many times and it helps to know exactly where he was last spotted. Which woods are we talking about? I'd be happy to spend time there with some smelly food to find him - but I need to know where!
Peter
Animal Magic Chelt
Sounds promising - hooray! Which woods are we talking about??
-x-
Barney 'n' Ozzie's mum
Just wondered if there's anywhere near the woods that Sam could park up and leave a car door open with some smelly food inside (i.e. pilchards). Smudge might just be tempted to jump in if he recognises her (it's been known to have worked in the past with other dogs). Good luck today xx
skippy
Oh that's great news....come on Smudge...show yourself - it really is time to come home now!
DogLostOwl
Sighted this evening but ran into woods and had gone by the time Sam got there. It looks as if Smudge is visiting town to look for Sam but going back to the woods to sleep and hunt. Have advised a barbecue to tempt him.
B30
Advertised in this weeks Countryman's Weekly magazine. I hope it brings some news
Animal Magic Chelt
Could this sighting be Smudge?? http://www.doglost.co.uk/poster.php?dogId=41499
Sam - if he went over Cleeve Hill over the Golf Course he would come out in Winchcombe?! We found a Collie a couple of years back in Charlton Kings, Chelt who had got lost the day before from Winchcombe!!
-x-

Oh! this is great news , its been over a month since he went missing and it seems on his way homeat last ,,,come on Smudge xxx
BBKM
Brilliant that Smudge has been sighted again. Hoping he is back home very soon. Stay safe Smudge you are a clever boy, you're nearly home x
Mollychops
Phew in now, thanks Sandie, also sighted at the garage in the TEWksbury rd. I will find out when this sighting was, as owner had a call from someone who saw Smudge there, Come on boy, are you making your way home ?? as only half a mile away. owner is scenting the area with her other dog, I will sugest she leeaves a gate open and some food down, tonight as he is sooo close
DogLostAngus
bumped for sighting - can everyone try and get some extra posters up please
Sam
Smudge wasseen in Cheltenham today at around 2pm on Princess Elizabth Way near te garage that is just off the ewkesbury Rd. hve been to look but no further sightings, I am going out there on my bike now to search the housing estates and parks in the area. He is so close to home.
Sam
Have put the ad in the Glos echo again , it is still online.
Feel v gloomy abot this, someone rang melast week saying they could smell someting decaying up Leckhampton hill but couldnt find anything. His collar is red, patterned, think i has bones on it. Someone else reported a dog who was being kept in a Van near by in Griffiths Avenue (Chelt) and lots of neighbours had expressed concern but the dog warden had been out to investigate and apparently it was a bitch not a dog, and was not stressed so he had no grounds to take action.Hope Smudge s still out there and nothing nasty ha happenned to him. Thanks folks xx
Mollychops
Owner is going to get him in the paper again, latr on this week, and I will bump him.
B30
What a shame that I didn't have the body shot photo before I sent Smudge's advert to the magazine, it shows his markings so well.
BBKM
Can i ask what colour was Smudge's collar please? We have a found dog in Northumberland ID 41425, until we can get a photo or RSPCA scan him all details are not 100%.
Sam
Went to field again today where he was last sighted doing the scenting thing.Kept expecting him to come bounding out of the hedgerows but sadly not. No reports of any sightings. Thanks to everyone who is looking out for him xx
DogLostJenners - Area Volunteer, Gloucestershire
No the one I found today isn't Smudge, sorry :( Fingers crossed for Smudge x
JeanWH
Liver and white Springer found in GL4 - 41276. Could this be Smudge?
Sallieanne1
We have been looking again tonite for you whilst in the fields and around the hill for a few hours. I really hope someone finds him soon. Keep us updated on any news or sightings so we can keep looking for him in the best places. X
Sam
Have put ad in glos echo.Tried to contat other media, pointswes, glos radio but they arto bloody selfmportant to care
The latest sighting was in a field near church road, which is just off the Leckhampton hill near the bottom. There is a footpath you can access it via Gifford road,or you can go through a path into a copse opposite daisybank road it has some kind of water storage thing there with a flat mown raised area and someaccess poits that lok like chimy pts on the ground. I think smone hs f...ed up my kybard am going tokill thm it feelssticky likesugar ...

Sam sorry to see your gorgeous Smudge is missing. His details and photo were shared on DOGLOST NORTH WEST facebook group (many thanks to the helper for sharing). I've uploaded the body shot photo of him from facebook and grouped it with the head shot one you put on here. Also updated the details to show up on his DogLost poster. Keeping everything crossed we see him back home with you soon. Good luck. x

To view the updated photo/s you may need to refresh the page.
Sam
No news of him yet but I emailed an animal psychic called Jackie Weaver, who replied saying that missing dogs was not her speciality so she couldnt help me but she said "but there is a summit up there as that is what I am aware of as I am typing" He was on the summit of Leckhampton Hill when we lost him so there could be something in this.Apparently it is an historic hill fort. Am going back up there vvsoonLast edited: 2012-07-05 16:53:06 by Sam

You are all doing great, keep going, I am sure he will be sighted again soon. Hope Smudge slows down and is home safe very, very soon x

Do as many local papers as you can, sam, local radio too. I will put Smudge forwards for the countrymans weekly . Postering is the best , it really does get dogs back . You are doing great x
Sam
Mollychops suggested media coverage, what sort do you think? Petplan pay up to £1000 for advertising etc. Any suggestions anyone? Am frantic now has been nearly a week.Am going to try the scenting and plotting thing this evening but it is raining so probably will wash away the pilchards and wee but will try anyway.Smudges brother thinks this is all great fun, he has never had so many walks and car trips in one week before! am off to do more postering now, many thanks to you all for your support. xx
Mollychops

Owners have been checking Benhall but nothing sadly , this dog can really move so he could be making his way home. Owners are going to poster along from where he went missing from and into Cheltenham . Its a large area. Ive suggested media coverage too. I will also send owners scenting and plotting info sheets. They have put pig feed down in Benhill Park , as Smudge loves it ! Owners are doing great , Im sure he will be found soon X
Sam
Hello nighthawk, sorry didnt read my email properly. Many thanks for your help and hope your mum is ok. am off to Benhall now will call you later x
Sam
He went missing at 10pm on Tuesday. we live quite near Benhall Park, near TGI Fridays on the gloucester rd and we have walked over that way before but not recently. Animal Magic Chelt

Sam
Have just had a call from someone who saw him legging it down Leckhampton hill after a pheasant on tuesdayor wednesday (unclear about time/day) . apparently it was just down from Daisybank and he turned off into the field on the left as you go down the hill. This sounds promising.Last edited: 2012-06-30 11:13:43 by Sam
