- Any update??

- It might be worth noting what it says on this site http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/HomeAndCommunity/InYourHome/AnimalsAndPets/Dogs/DG_180091
" Keeping a stray dog that you find
You can keep a stray dog temporarily in your home while trying to contact the owner or the dog warden service (which you must do).
It may be possible to adopt the dog if its original owner isn't traced or they don't claim the dog within seven days. You should tell the dog warden if you would like to adopt the dog. However, the legal ownership of the dog is never transferred to you. This means the original owner could claim their dog back at anytime - even if you've had the dog for several months or years."
Good Luck

- As Netty-B says this appears to be happening more and more and is very concerning. If you give a baby up for adoption you can still change your mind within 6 months and take the baby back from its new family. But if you loose a pet it can be rehomed after just 7 days and you have no rights to get it back or contact the new owners. Mistakes happen, no one is perfect but they should be fixed immediately. X

- So sad - how far can a microchip move in a Yorkshire Terrier? I do hope that the pound at least try to contact the new owners and try to put this right. Glad to hear that Mia is safe, but surely the right thing for her is to be returned to her rightful owners

- This is so very sad, surely the "new" owners will hand her over, they must if they love her do whats right for Mia and her rightful owners.Makes you lose faith in the microchip system when this happens, i know chips can move that is why the whole body should be checked. My vet checks the microchip every time they go for their vacs.to see if still ok, perhaps all should do this. I think there should be ONE database where all lost and found dogs are listed by law to make life easier for owners etc, have heard of this happening so many times and it causes so much heartache. Hope we will see an update on here soon to say owners have her back. She only went missing just over two weeks ago, seven days in the pound if picked up same day means in new home little more than a week if that with home checks etc. I know you can fall in love straight away with dogs BUT still she should go back HOME. Sorry to rant on but i feel very strongly about this, as it happened to me, the dog i adopted was seen by its old owners, i offered her back but they felt she was better off and happier with me than she had been at theres due to a new addition, so i kept her. I must point out that she was not nor never micro chipped to them, so not such a clear cut case as Mia`s . Good luck owners.xxx

- How dreadful, hope there's a happy ending for Mia and her proper owner??
- 2012-07-14 09:22 Unknown
- I do hope this results in a happy ending for the rightful owner. I think they should follow N. Irelands example, where I believe it is compulsory to have your dog microchipped, and put on a data base. Surely this would help to prevent this sort of thing happening as often as it does? Good Luck
