- Hi everyone I am going to post a pic later when he is feeling better with Major and Dingle reunited. I have to smile at my past posts and the spelling mistakes! That was stress. I am going to do all I can to help with any dogs lost that I see in my area and take my hat off to all the volunteers and caring people who have made this possible today. We are so happy and I have never seen such a relieved and relaxed doggy albeit exhausted and sore, he has eaten two bowls of food spaced out and a big treat, he is now sleeping peacefully and we think he will need plenty of sleep. Can't believe how much weight he has lost since Tuesday! He will get a big juicy steak tomorrow :) Thankyou to absolutely everyone, you are all super special people xx

- Have also been out in this area as well - spoke to the husband of lady who saw him at 6 am this morning whom I know. He said he trotted back up track to B4553 but as to which way he went Purton or Cricklade is not known! There is a plant stall at the YFC hut on crossroads at Purton Stoke and have alerted them! Everything crossed he is found today!
- 2012-07-07 12:46 wendy
- We have been out to the purton area and the bentham areas today then back to mouldon lakes, following the Packhorse Lane, and the B4553 road no sightings, looking at google maps he is following a straight line across the railway crossing back into Oakhurst and into Mouldon hill lakes, he may come back that way at the same time today, around 2.30 3 pm if everyone in that area can keep a look out please. The bentham turning near to the Bell pub Purton Stoke where he was seen yesterday at 11.30 approx so convinced he is an area surrounding these places and is going back and for between them probably trying to get back home. Knocked on a few doors in the area to alert people, eveyone seems to know!

Or jnct 16 great Western Way ,Haydon Wick ,Abbey Meads, Blunsdon.
To add: when you approach do not walk at him in a straight line take a zig zag approach,,,,,speak softly, he will be hungry & looking for someone or something familiar.Last edited: 2012-07-07 07:58:45 by Reynard - 2012-07-07 07:51 Mollychops

- I walked him at the kennels. I will be coming up from melksham, I don't know swindon very well, which is the best way to come to get to the right area please?
- 2012-07-07 07:19 Mollychops
- Ive just spoken with L from the Stadium, who is going to tell people in this area that she knows. Also she will alert the people on the farm down the long drive off tadpole lane .
- 2012-07-07 06:52 Lilybear
- Major has never raced, Chris have you known him at track? Wendy has a rope lead, Wendy you may want to pick up another more substantial one. They are quick to slip over head and secure.maybe difficult to faf with his collar and lead. Hopefully Dingle will draw him. He was so close to home, make you took the wrong turning.Last edited: 2012-07-07 07:03:55 by Angus

- Trail of gravy excellent idea, just cme back from taw hill lake and had another sighting just come in he was seen wandering along verge of thamesdown drive and then turned into oakhurst Friday street then disappeared anyone in the area if they could look out please just in case. We have taken pilchards over
- 2012-07-06 20:19 Mollychops
- Thats a very good idea about the collar and gravy . My dogs go mad for gravy . Thanks Suziewoo x
- 2012-07-06 19:38 Suziewoo
- I'm so hoping that he is caught quickly & safely! It may be worth having a slip lead as that would be the safest way of securing him. If his collar is not tight enough and he gets scared, he may pull out of his collar and run off which would be bad news. Hopefully he will be hungry enough to come out for food. A trail of gravy can also help draw a dog in the right direction. Everything crossed for Major & Wendy xxx
- 2012-07-06 19:22 Mollychops
- Have sent owners the scenting adice and suggested a barbecue late tonight when all is quiet in the area, I know its not great conditions for one, but maybe if it cleaARS UP later it might be possible to draw him out with the smell of bacon and sausages frying , also putting down some smelly fish too. Ive also expalined that dogs that are missing for any time, specially as in Majors case, can very fast go feral. He might not recognise you as his owners. DONT CHASE HIM. That is so important. Drop down to ground level, call his name softly DONT MAKE EYE CONTACT , throw some ham or something yummy that he will like [you need to be armed with this in the first place]and draw him to you with the food. Be very quiet no sudden movements. Please if anyone has more to add to the advice on catching loose dogs feel free to post, as Its not something I do everyday really XLast edited: 2012-07-06 19:26:15 by Mollychops

- Hi we have now had 3 more sightings of possibly Major within sight of home! One taw hill lake and tawny owl pub, lady convinced it was him by the lake so taken Dingle out on foot to try and find him. This would fit in with the sighting in purton stoke as it leads through eventualy to the lake where major is familar as we walk him there, please keep fingers crossed also someone said a boots van slowed down for him near the pub this suggests he is trying to get home
- 2012-07-06 15:56 Suziewoo
- My heart jumped when I saw the word sighted! Everything crossed for this lovely lad's safe return. Has anyone put his details on the Hound Lounge? The greyhound community pull together in such times. I only wish I was nearer & could help search. Stay safe Major xx

- Never mind! 'Possible' sighting is better than no sighting! Come on Major - get yourself sighted!!
- 2012-07-06 15:26 Lilybear
- No sadly not. So at the moment an unconfirmed sighting of major. A chap was seen in a field with a lurcher type dog looked like major from a distance but the owner could not catch up with him. Sorry all, will ammend my earlier post to 'possible' sighting. Thank you all so much for your support.Last edited: 2012-07-06 15:38:43 by Lilybear

- 2012-07-06 08:07 wendy
- please note husband didnt see him leave the track, he just crossed over then back again he may have been looking for an escape route.

- Wonderful article in local paper. We have realised that somerford keynes area another possibility as this is the other side of the track, Major was seen crossing over then crossing back again by my husband before disappearing. There are fences all along until you reach the Minety area where there are places he could have gone either side of the track nearer Minety. It is surrounded by fields both sides. I am contacting as many vets as possible in the area this morning

I will get our Stroud coord Flaggbag to alert Stroud station.xx These stations need contacting very regularly, maybe a poster in the Swindon drivers restroom and Gloucester, as they will be coming throug hwith different drivers though
- 2012-07-05 21:40 Reynard
- Have been out to Minety again today and then Oaksey, Somerford Keynes , Kemble have been looking in quite places near to Railway lines such as Churches, which is a good place for a dog to hole up, there is also vast open countryside out there very near the line I crossed the line many times ,so good idea Mollychops. Marjor will be in the press soon so hope this will bring in some sightingsLast edited: 2012-07-05 21:41:08 by Reynard

- Just to let everyone know where we searched today either side of railway bridge next to vale of white horse pub minety, but limited search as explained due to safety.
- 2012-07-04 13:04 wendy
- have been with a police officer today up to minety crossing and went as far as possible to do safely down the side on paths by railway lines on both sides, impossible to see too far safely. There are engineers on the line leading to kemble so hopefuly one of them would have spotted him if he had been there, we had no sighting of Major sadly.

- POSSIBLE SIGHTING...unconfirmed at Minety Cuttings, observation point from railway bridge onto railway track is on the B4040, not far from the Vale of the White Horse Pub. Keep safe.

- I have spoken with the kennel that Major came from, they suggest that if he is sighted, if at all possible, open boot/door of car and it maybe he'll jump in. Thank you all for what your are doing for Wendy & Major.

- Thanks for confirmation, will poster my local area for them, the railway line goes through Shaw forest park which is very popular with dog walkers - will try and get some up that way too. Have local vets been contacted, dog wardens etc etc? Kemble is miles from Woodhall Park so this boy is travelling quickly!
Might be worth alerting train stations on the route. - 2012-07-03 20:20 Reynard
