cheadle animal welfare have a dog very similar, that I believe was found as a stray at the end of last year. I'm a walker for them so have some pics of her if needed

I am hoping maybe someone has picked her up over the weekend and will be contacting Dog Wardens etc. tomorrow when everyone is back at work. Fingers tightly crossed for her. Julie x

Millys Mum, the number above is the original owners number, they live in ST6 and she was lost with the new owner in ST2. There have been no sightings of her as far as I know.

Do we know for sure that the person 'selling' Susie was the rightful owner? Did the 'new owner' know the person 'selling' Susie or where they lived? Perhaps it's just me but couldn't help but wonder. Of course, I suppose there's also a possiblity that Susie is back with the person who sold her. Julie - I couldn't help but smile about your post - your 2 Huntaways sitting all nice and warm in your truck whilst you and your friend were out in the pouring rain! Very funny. I've often wondered whether their dislike to rain might have something to do with their countries (NZ & Oz) of 'origin' because, afterall. those 2 countries don't tend to get as much rain as us. Lizzy - is there any news or sightings of Susie? I reckon this is going to be quite difficult as Suzie wouldn't know her 'new' owner at all. And, thinking about the bus journey, I don't suppose many dogs would happily get on a bus (or train) the first time around as they would only view them as big noisy/scary monsters. I don't reckon I would get mine onto a bus without making several attempts.

I was hoping as it had been a drier day today Susie would have been spotted - I hope she is soon home safe and sound. Millys mum - I had to get my friend to help gather our sheep the other day as it was so wet my two NZHs would not work in it so they sat in the truck and watched the humans do all the work and get soaking wet into the bargain ! My two are very friendly with people so was rather hoping Susie would soon be found. Fingers tightly crossed she is soon home. Julie x

Julie - our NZH doesn't like rain either (although loves to dash up and down the stream!). And yes, I agree, Susie could definately be lying low out of the rain. I don't know how our boy would have fared if he had stayed working on the farm! I reckon they would have issued him with a raincoat and umbrella. Ours was often mistaken for a Dobemann cross when he was a youngster. They are such a lovely breed and we are now both well and truly hooked on NZHs. I wonder if there's been any sightings of Susie. Apart from ours being male, Susie is the spitting image of our lad.

Spoke to owner, DW has been contacted, postering has been done, vets contacted. have advisd radio and local paper. Also sites to check on on the internet.

Yes Millys mum I agree - I have 2 NZ Huntaways and they are very vocal indeed, mine both work sheep. They usually have webbed feet both mine have, mind you I don't know why as they both hate water ! It may be this dog is hiding up somewhere as it too may hate the rain but they are very intelligent. Hoping this one is soon in the blue and safe. Julie

I have googled Doberman x collie and have found a dog very similar to the missing dog but I will mention what you have said to the owner.

This dog looks more like a New Zealand Huntaway to me - a herding breed that works at the back of the flock/herd. They are highly intelligent and are VERY vocal. They operate alongside Border Collies rounding up the stragglers, constantly barking whilst working. Youngsters can be skittish and wary of strangers. The breed is normally resourceful. Hope this beauty is found very soon and that she keeps safe in the meantime.
