Very sad news Poppy was found drowned in Chesterfield canal today at about 8pm, we got her body out, she is now with us at home and we will be burying her somewhere in the peaks.

Thanks to all those who helped and put posters up but if you can please take them down now if you see any around Chesterfield and call off the search if you are searching.

Thanks again Larrie & LorrianeLast edited: 2012-07-18 22:02:26 by Larrie

Sorry you had a disappointment, hope tomorrow brings a sighting. That is a very good map you have done :)
Larrie
We followed a possible sighting today but it wasn't poppy, I got all excited because it really looked like her from a distance :(
Barneysmum
Sorry, unexpected family commitment prevented me from searching. but I have spoken to a friend who lives near the golf course and she knows someone who walks their dog there every day. They will keep a look out for poppy.
Larrie
@Sue yes I got your email about Mapping, Scenting etc. Thanks
B30
Larrie did you get my email?

To everyone searching, if you see Poppy don't go towards her. Although she is friendly she will be confused and may be scared so walk at an angle to her, don't make eye contact, call her name quietly and crouch down if she approaches.
DogLostOwl
@ Wendy, it's hard to tell whether the scent yesterday was one or two days old at the time. I'd say it was more than 12 hours but can't pin it down closer than that. But it's very likely that she will stay around the golf course and the back of the hospital because it's quiet. She must be getting hungry by now so watch out for her anywhere that food may be discarded. As Poppy originally went missing after being chased by another dog she may avoid strange dogs so best to search without dogs but with smelly food such as fish or sausage.
Larrie
Yes we have posters in the golf club
carrot
Have you got in touch with the Golf Club too? They probably have a clubhouse
Larrie
@carrot thank you

We put some posters up around Hady, Spital and Hasland tonight. I walked around near the hospital and some of the the golf course. Sorry I did not see this about the scent before I went out.
xWendyx
We've just got back from driving round Brimington and Calow but didn't see her. My son and his girlfriend are going to walk round the fields there tomorrow and search. How friendly is she towards other dogs? Is she likely to come near if they had a dog with them or are the better looking without?
Larrie
I have setup a Facebook page for poppy, thanks to all for your help so far, Our search is concentrating on the Brimington area, Chesterfield Golf course and hospital following Wispa's scent, the Facebook page is. http://www.facebook.com/HelpFindPoppyChesterfield
xWendyx
How fresh do you think the scent was? My son's girlfriend is here and lives at Brimington. She usually goes home on the bus but if you think the scent is fresh I will give her a lift home and drive round
DogLostOwl
Wispa and I have tracked Poppy this evening all the way from the fields and woods where she went missing, heading east to come out on Hady Lane then northwards to cross the A632 on to the golf course. Continued north over the links to join Crow Lane where the trail headed east towards Brimington. At that point we called it a day as Wispa was losing concentration and having a problem following the scent on tarmac/pavement where it would have been partly washed away by rain. Also Crow Lane is a narrow but busy single track, very difficult to take a dog down at busy time of day. So please everyone keep eyes peeled in Brimington, also around golf course and hospital area.
xWendyx
I hate to say this, but have you been in touch with Railtrack as there are railway lines near you
B30
Thanks for all your help XWendyX.

Posters get more dogs home than anything else, so many more eyes looking out for Poppy.
Larrie
xWendyX Thank you for searching, I was put in touch with chester's owner and spoke to him at length on the phone, we are postering as much as we can but agree we need to do more, thanks again.
xWendyx
I've been all round Spital and Hady this afternoon but sadly didn't see Poppy. I spoke to the workmen on Spital Lane and they said they would look out for her. I think there should be more posters up (I only saw 3 in Spital and 1 in Hady). My brother is a councillor for Hasland and has a meeting tonight. He will mention Poppy and take posters. It might be worth ringing Hady and Hasland Schools to see if they can mention her in their assembly - they will finish for the summer on Friday so will need to do this quickly. Also have you thought about postering near the hospital as lots of people from different areas will see them in case Poppy is further away now. Please make her 'too hot to handle' with posters. Chester (the lab lost last week in Chesterfield) was returned to his owner thanks to postering. A lady picked him up in Stonegravels and took him to Clay Cross before someone else told her about the posters. My printer is broken so when my new one arrives this week, I will print off some more posters and leaflets to give outLast edited: 2012-07-17 16:17:24 by xWendyx
