emmalouise. You are right. I think it is best for people to go to the "proper channels" before rehoming any animal. You can find the relevant sites here on the internet, such as "The Dogs Trust, "Cinnamon Trust" who will always give adviceon this issue. You know what they say if something seems "Too good to be true" (Even adverts) It probably is.

Fantastic news. So pleased you have Bruiser back with you, safe and sound. No one blames you for what happened. The main thing is Bruiser is home with you and your family, and you are doing all the right things; eg trainer etc. Just put the past behind, and have a great time with your gorgeous boy. Hi, I'm really pleased Bruiser is safe and you got him back. A few things I thought of though - it doesn't state if Bruiser is castrated or not; if not you would probably find this calmed him down (after about 3 months when testosterone levels drop), also keeping him in a cage whenever people visit may actually increase his sense of excitement (certainly his frustration). I was advised to keep my very lively young Lab on a lead when new visitors came until he settled and could be let off - this certainly seemed to work. Bruiser is still only a teenager, he will naturally settle over the next year or so. You mention he is great with your kids and other dogs (usually) so he should settle. I really hope you keep him and work through his exuberance. He sounds like he only just had a lucky escape. I wish you all well.

So glad Bruiser's family kept looking for him. However people really do need to realise that at 2 / 2.5 years old he is still only a baby too and with time he will calm down. If only people kept that in mind before giving up this precious fur babies

Feel so sorry for the owner who thought they had gone through all the right checks to ensure Bruiser was rehomed to the best person. Goes to show the lengths people will go to in order to get dogs for dubious purposes. So glad the owner didn't ever give up and that he had support from the authorities so that Bruiser was saved from a terrible ordeal. So many other dogs aren't so lucky. I hope he has settled down back home now and that his family are managing to cope with him,

Just seen this on f/b, thank god he is back home in safe hands.

Many many people do not realise the bad side to advertising their pets on the free ads, it breaks my heart when i see dogs ' free to a good home'. But you live and learn by it, and its a case of spreading the word as to this can happen. It does happen, time and time again, daily.

Bruiser is one of the lucky ones, his owners didnt give up after clocking something was wrong, and they got him back. I hope his story is made known, and may help other dogs that end up in this situation.

Great story....very lucky dog indeed. I really hope that people who read this think twice before rehoming their dogs through free ads. Not all people are nice and caring.

now im sure many people will jump on this and say its our own fault and maybe it is but ow that i have been through it i really dont want to see another family go through it ....

Bruiser is our 2.5yr old staff cross huskie. now being uneducated in how i could have resolved his issues like many others which i admit i thought our best choice for both him and us was to rehome him.i have 3 children 1 of which is only 18mths old and bruiser is an extremely boisterous and energetic boy.he had to spend alot of time stuck in his cage when visitors came because he was hard to handle and at night or when we went out as he chewed everything in sight (he had already ripped our kitchen floor up)

i rang over 20 dogs homes with no luck and even a few of them stating to me on the phone that because of his breed my best option would have been putting him to sleep but to us that was no option!!

I advertised him on a few groups on facebook and a lady contacted me.i got some advice on what to look for when rehoming so i worked from a checklist.i went through her profile i looked at her pics we spoke for days she asked questions i asked questions next step was a home check.the lady already had a stunning well looked after 1yr old staffie so we had to make sure both her dog and bruiser got on.we stayed for a few hrs at the house chatting away and the dogs got on like a house on fire it brought a tear to my eye seeing them together everything was perfect it really was.

1 of the conditions she had the dog was that we got daily updates and a pic of how he was doin for the first week and we could visit whenevr she had decided that.we left the dog and came home upset but happy.

to cut the story short the next day she had blocked me something was wrong we managed to get in contact with her via a friends facebook and she was very rude and abrupt. i was told i would get no pics or contact and the dog was out with her uncle on the trucks. i went mad then the next message was an argument and she was deactivating facebook then my friend had been blocked.we got in the car to go collect him i was upset angry and hurt wondering what was going on.

when we got there the police turned up not long after she told the police 3 dif stories and came to the conclusion she had lost him but didnt know where.

i got in touch with doglost uk a fantastic group of people. we put adverts oll over facebook about finding him ect . i had rehomed him over 10 miles away from me but it didnt stop me going nightly with my neighbour staying out till 230am some nights looking for him.anyway 2 weeks later we got an annonymous tip off telling me to contact the police and take them to the adress i had been given to collect him.not understanind why i needed the police i contacted them and explained and all the police man said was oh no.i was informed he was in an area renowned for its favourite sport......dog fighting.....my heart sank what had i done to my baby.

we went to collect him... we were extremely lucky...bruiser wasnt to bad they had started starving him so he had a bad stomach and was agressive to other dogs now but he knew me and was still loving he had only been there 3/4 days he was at the original ladys house untill then she was hiding him from me.

since we have had him home his stomach is now better the aggression to other dogs is settling down and he is still his great self with the kids. he is now microchipped vaccinated and as of

Thanks for the text earlier today Jayne, so pleased you managed to get in touch with his owner and offer advice on what to do. A massive thank you to the anonymous caller giving the details of where Bruiser was and he was with someone in the Bolton area.

Have uploaded a reunited photo which we all love to see. His family are over the moon and cannot thank everyone enough for all the help and support which they said without it they would not have got him back. He will be getting CHIPPED and NEUTERED a.s.a.p.

AnnieSparky - from what I gather from facebook I think the owners of the found 41394 have come forward. She had been reported to DW as lost on Tuesday, but same DW picked up same day and failed to make link. DW also wrongly identified as 'type' and sent to LCDH.

Thankfully owners saw cross-posting on facebook and came forward with her papers which prove her to be AM Bull. Home safe now I believe, so not Bruiser, but just goes to show the importance of owners checking the pounds themselves.
