Coincidence but similar Collie found today on Leigh dogs home strays website, photo ref West Lancs-190

Think markings may be sightly different though esp left front paw? worth a look though.

Thanks AnnieSparky but I know of this found and I don't think it is Shep. It was found just around the corner from me, it could hardly move, was over-weight, had cataracts and appeared a lot older than Shep. Thanks for checking.

Hi Hellyglo....dogs trust merseyside has a border collie up for rehoming on their website who looks quite like shep - called Zack - circumstances under which he came to dogs trust would indicate not Shep, but thought you might want to have a check of the photos anyway:

Hellyglo...we'll all keep searching.....Sheps got to be somewhere. Think the Salford dog wardens know about Shep?....they are out and about in the Worsley/Swinton area I think? (sorry I dont know the areas very well).
Do we need any more posters in Billinge area....are there any farms/ riding stables nearby to give posters out to? There was one on Upholland Road where I found two little Collies in the road.....I took them back up the track and behind a fence/hedge there were people riding horses. I didnt have a poster to give them at the time.... When I'm up next I'll call on them again unless anyone else local can before. Guess we have to keep covering all possibilities.
Got everything crossed Shep is found soon x
Hellyglo
Just checked the Animal Warden site and made enquiries but none seem to be Shep. Went to Worsley for a good few hours with the Hubster on Saturday but no sightings. Searched the Golf Course and the empty house gardens, drove around all the roads. I am planning to go up at the weekend for a stake out, can't think of anything else to do!!! x

Saw a dog matching the description of Shep at 10.15p.m. on Hazelhurst Road Worsley near Hazelfields. Tried to coax him over with biscuits but ran away at speed. Waited 30 mins and left biscuits but to no avail. He ran into gardens on Gibb Road. Left voice mail on dog wardens number. Lots of dog walkers are looking out for him. Although looking abit scruffy he appeared well. Hope you find him.

Hi all, The girls and I have been out and about a lot over the last week and everyone that I meet in the area out with their dogs knows about Shep. Keeping my eye on the pre-loved web pages etc and it is important now to keep checking the wider wardens webpages incase he has made his way further a field. Keep positive in the knowledge that lots of people are looking out for him as scootjockey said you are not on your own. Michelle, Indie and Jess x

Hi, had a call this morning from a lady in Swinton saying a b&w collie resembling Shep was going down Worsley Road. She tried to coax it to her but it ran off. I have managed to get down there this morning (was working - my boss is a good man!) and myself and my Dad have searched the road, shouted his name and put up some posters. We asked everyone we saw but the hadn't seen anything. Thanks everyone x x

Sighting of a B&W Collie, Bleak Hill rd, Eccleston - my Dad's been to look and put up a couple of posters but didn't see anything, people myself and others know are keeping a look out! Please let it be him, one of these phone calls has to lead to something!! x x
Andi
Possible sighting Bleak Hill Road, Eccleston, St Helens - reported to owner - anyone in that area please keep your eyes open and help put up a poster in your local area? Thanks x
AnnieSparky
Hellyglo that is brilliant......you have done so well and thats a good job your Dad (and Morag) is doing keeping checking the fields too. Its great so many people are looking and listening out for Shep now.
I'll also be back for a look about soon, will have posters to give out and put up anywhere I can xx
Hellyglo
Hi All, Again, thanks! I'll be going putting a few more posters up later. Have a small one in the post office now. Posters are outside the shops and i left flyers in the hairdressers and beauticians on Rainford Road. Will get something in the newsagents and Spar. My Dad takes Morag on the back fields from where Shep went missing everyday now and no signs. Someone must have him or he's lying dead somewhere, just need to know - driving me crackers! He had a collar but no tag. Thank you all for keeping me driven with this! x
Pia
Again, sorry to see Shep is not back. Been away to Eskdale this weekend but will be back out round the beacon tomorrow again. Yes, Henry is a pointer and I'm quite sure we've met. I really feel for you and keep hoping for Shep to come home soon. Lots of hugs x
skippy
Hi Hellyglo - sorry to hear you've had another disappointment - it must be so hard for you, but you are doing really well. Keep persevering with the posters and spreading the word...sadly the down side of this will be that you will get some false alarms (and probably at some point some nasty calls), and there will be times when you're torn in two wondering which calls to follow up first.

Posters being taken down can sometimes just be kids, sometimes the council, but can also sometimes be people with something to hide, so please just keep plugging away - replace the posters which are removed - hand out the business card size to as many dog walkers as you meet - keep reminding people that he still isn't home yet....someone will have seen something and all it takes is the right person to make the call to you.

Hope you get that call soon.x
AnnieSparky
Just checking while on my break:)
Hellyglo, its a real rollercoaster but keep going, thats great putting more posters up. I just use plastic polypockets (put posters in upside down and cellotaped the bottom) and cellotape to put them up :) Did you pop one into Billinge post office and some of the shops there?
Did you say Shep has a facebook page? I'm not on facebook properly yet....but friend checks for me at mo.
About the lone dog.....it may have found its way home but putting on facebook is good or sometimes people put a "sighting only" report on the Found page here on D/L. You could email admin with it. I didnt see any lone dogs when there yesterday and went right through Garwswood...I'll keep an eye out when I come back. Think we'll have to keep putting more posters up....keep going Helena....its possible someone is "looking after him". Did he have a collar and tag on? x
PS am sure you do...but regularly go back to where he went missing from, wonder where could he have gone from there. They do triangles, I believe, when on the run....I'll have to get a proper map of Billinge and area I think x

HI, I've checked Petmedics and it was looking really promising but they couldn't find a small scar on his belly, the microchip they found from 6 yrs back was registered somewhere different to where Shep was from, and I am sure Shep was scanned for a microchip and didn't have one. I am gutted, having such a low day today. A few posters have been taken down in Billinge, I have some prints but need to get some wallets and ties to put them up again. Thanks Annie once again for all your help! The sighting in Garswood came from an unknown member of the public on Victoria Rd, Grant actually saw a lone Collie when driving through but lost sight (it wasn't Shep) - I mentioned this on FB site, should I do anything else? I have been to Garswood since but haven't seen anything x

A collie was taken to petmedics, the dog was found in Worsley Woods, Salford Dog Warden is going check to see if it could be Shep. His details have been passed on to them by Hippy Chick Last edited: 2012-08-06 11:27:04 by Maggie

Requested e-mail alerts to go out a bit further afield

Just been out for a few hours looking out for Shep. Went through Billinge then over to Garswood. Put a few posters up in Garswood on Victoria Road, outside Garswood train station where I spoke to the ticket man who hadnt heard anything and was happy for me to put poster up in the waiting room, also put one outside the Post Office/Spar.
When driving back through Billinge I didnt see many posters up (and didnt have any left), wondered if they have been taken down. Kept a close lookout along roads and the fields but sadly no sign of Shep.
Will try to get back up soon but unfortunately takes me half an hour to get there and with working fulltime cant manage very often......but will do as much as poss to help find Shep xx Fingers crossed for news soon xx
Could I also ask where the information about possible sighting in Garswood came from? Just curious xxLast edited: 2012-08-05 20:40:22 by AnnieSparky

Lets hope so.....will be out in area over next few days and will of course look out for Shep and have posters/flyers with me. All possibilities/sightings must be checked. Keep safe Shep xxLast edited: 2012-08-05 00:35:06 by AnnieSparky

Another Border Collie Found on AW website today but says female.....some people say its still worth checking as occasionally make mistake.
Also emailed AW to clarify about how we check about the "sighted" male Border Collie in M25.....they replied immediately saying another report for same area would be placed on their website.

That is difficult.....I didnt know they put "sighted" dogs on the Animal Wardens website (sorry forgot to say where I saw it)......Its registered as "Found"......maybe when actually found AW will update the date and thats how we would know. I'll keep checking just incase.
Think you may have already contacted Manchester Dogs Home and sent a poster?

Thanks Annie! Called the number and the dog hasn't actually been caught, just sighted. Hard to know what to do. The lady said I should keep an eye on the website if anything is posted again x
AnnieSparky
Hellyglo you are doing so well......just to let you know am still looking out for Shep in the area too.

I know this is unlikely (and you may have seen it already) but only about 20 miles away.....maybe worth a quick call to check description.

Thanks again, sorry I have had a hectic few days. Had a response from my paper ad but it wasn't Shep, the lady called saying she got the dog from LC&D's, very good of her. Thanks for letting me know about that sighting Witchy, 70+ letters have been sent out plus more emailed to all the vets in the northwest, hopefully something will turn up. I'll be getting more posters when i can print some out on Monday, noticed a few had been ripped down, probably daft kids, not going to get annoyed about it. Pia - do you have a pointer (think thats the breed?) the name Henry rings a bell, if so have I spoke to you before, usually myself, Shep, my Springer and occasionally 2 kids in tow? Anyway, thanks to you all x x x

Might be a total long shot but I thought worth posting - I saw a Border Collie running along the road dodging traffic on A49 in Leyland just before it becomes Euxton a few days ago. It looked to be a Tri colour but may just have looked brownish in the sun. I was driving at the time & had to turn around to go back to look for it but by the time I'd got back to where I saw it it had gone. It was very afraid of traffic & was shying away from the cars as they passed. I did search for a fair while & asked loads of people but no one had seen where it went. It was quite dirty but didn't look like a farm dog, looked more like a pet in a bad condition. No idea if it could be Shep as it is a long way away but wanted to let you know.

All, I am training tonight at Lynda Edmondson's club Dog Friendly Training with Indie at the community centre on Chain Lane. I will ask Lynda if I can mention it there and I have a poster to take.
Remember Tay's Mum is right - Indie was missing for 2 months and it takes at least a week for the communication to get out wider and for people to take notice. Have you targeted all the Rainford area? Main shops, chippy, vets etc. The main chip shop has a notice board that I had to pay a few pounds to put the poster on but whilst people are waiting they read it and the entrance to the parks etc? Keep positive as everyone I have spoken is aware and are looking out for him.
Michelle, Indie and Jess x
Pia
Sorry to see Shep is not back home :-( Me and Henry have been trawling round Carr Mill this morning. From Waterside hotel, up the Goyt to "Blue Hills" towards garswood and back. Didn't see any posters around there!? (I've got no printer at the moment). But the people we met did know about Shep being missing. Really hope you'll get some good news soon! Hugs x

Normally the co-ordinator who's been in touch with the owner puts them on but I'll do it now. Adverts go over to the magazine on Wednesdays and are published two weeks later.

If still missing please put on the list for a Countryman's Weekly magazine advert

Hellyglo - if you need a hand printing a few posters then pls let me know. I dont mind doing some from home to help out, its not a problem. As long as you dont want like 500 doing. Just let me know if you are getting low and I will text you to sort. Can do some of the small business card size too if you need. So wishing Shep home soon.
Hellyglo
Hello! Thanks everyone. Been to Crawford again this morning with Morag (our springer) for a search. Went through the back of the playing fields, where the dog was heading and came across a farm down the footpath, they own a black and white collie there so I'm not confident that it was Shep at all :-( Scootjockey - I am off work so can't sort any more posters, but will try and pop in this week. You know my number 07921865775, if you text me your address I will pop some in to you when I get them sorted, is this ok? Have the blues today, been a week already! Thanks for your support everyone, it means a lot x
Tig
Hi all, did the whole round trip yesterday and Friday with Indie and Jess including Sankey Valley walk. Will be out again soon and have seen lots of posters for him so hopefully someone will know something soon.
Keep positive. Michelle, Indie and Jess x
AnnieSparky
Thanks for updates Hellyglo, hoping this sighting brings good news....I'll be out again one evening to have a search....Good luck Team Shep xx
skippy
good luck Hellyglo...hope it's Shep. You are doing so well with your search. Everything crossed for you that he is home with you soon.x
scootjockey
Hellyglo everything crossed the dog at Crawford is Shep. Weve been Ashurst beacon the ramngers there are great have you given them some posters?I can do it but I need some posters please.Let me know if you have some I could collect yeah. Thanks for reading our Tays nightmare and looking out for him. Good luck Gail x
Hellyglo
Good Idea, will try and have a drive down to the centre tomorrow. Just spent an hour in Crawford, had a call from someone that they saw a dog of Sheps description late last night. They'll be looking out for it. I'll probably go for a long walk around the footpaths and fields there tomorrow. Thanks for all advice x
icce
Hi just a thought, have you been in contact with the St Helens ranger service based at the Heritage centre, Sankey Valley, Blackbrook? They patrol the area, a walk that takes them from the centre at Sankey valley through carmill dam to Billinge beacon a few times a week. They would be more than happy to display posters in the centre and at the pubic notice boards at Bankes Park etc as well as keeping their eyes peeled...they are an invaluable source of help as they come into contact with and know personally many dog walkers everyday x
skippy
Sorry it wasn't him this time Hellyglo...keep postering and getting the word out and hopefully the next call will turn out to be him! :)x
Hellyglo
No! Already reunited and was a cocker spaniel. Gutted :-( the search continues x
skippy
all crossed here too!
Mash
Keeping everything crossed for you
Hellyglo
Hi, have a lead!!! A man, has called from Haresfinch with info from a neighbour who said a black and white spaniel followed them home and a friend is looking after it. Just been but no one in. Left a message to call me!! They could have misidentfied the breed so heres hppong x
AnnieSparky
Hi Tig...thanks...so glad you got Indie back and its good now to have your knowledge to share. DogsLost is amazing....I only became aware of it when I saw a picture of missing Ben in the local paper a few months ago.
Hopefully with all this sharing we will hear news of Shep soon x
Tig
Hi AnnieSparky, no Indie was stolen from my car last April when she was 4 months old (including the cage she was locked in!). DogLost were fantastic and through their advice/support and the suppport of all the dog lovers out there, I got her back after the people keeping her let her go and she was taken into the PDSA in Huyton. Indie was Microchipped so they linked her to me and she was back home 2 months later. You are looking at making them 'too hot to handle' everyone is looking out for them.
The other place that is worth a poster is Robinsons in Ashton as they have a notice board on the way out at the tills that people look at and that covers lots of the horse community and dogs. I will drop one off when I have finished training this afternoon. Michelle Indie and Jess. x
AnnieSparky
Sorry meant to say about sending/giving poster in to all the local vets (am guessing you may have already done so though)x

So good that lots of people looking out for your Shep.....

Tig, is one of your dogs missing? x

AnnieSparky
Hi Mash :) No sightings so far......really hope we hear something soon.

Hellyglo....you are doing brilliant....as Mash advised informing Network Rail and maybe put posters up at the nearby stations.
Cant think of anywhere else at the moment.....any local riding stables/farms are good to inform.
Keep your chin up....Fingers crossed for good news soon xx

Tig
Hi Helena, I was out with my friend and Indie and Jess all around Carr Mill yesterday and bumped into your fella and his search party! We train agility on Eddleston Fieleds and I train at Wigan A&ABTC dog club so will take a poster up there this afternoon as many are local and walk all around Ashton,Wigan etc. With Indie I put posters up in the bus stops, train stations Rainford Junction, St Helens, Newton etc as whilst people are waiting they all read things that catch their eye! The other advice I had was to look every day at the 'Pre loved' dog websits incase he is being sold on, like gum tree, preloved.co.uk - hard but worth checking and that is were I saw the advert for Jess whilst still looking for Indie I have been on there this morning to keep my eye out for him. Ask if Pimbo Garden Centre and Billinge Garden Centre would put the poster near the tills for you for a while lots of local people! Keep positive - Michelle Indie and JessLast edited: 2012-07-28 10:32:00 by Tig

Have there been any sightings recently
Hellyglo
:-) think one of you saw my fella at Carr Mill this afternoon? X x thanks Anniesparky for your help too, thinking of other areas to cover, any ideas x x x xLast edited: 2012-07-28 00:09:04 by Hellyglo

Hi! No, not even thought of that Mash. Will do that in the morning. Going to look at a few places tomorrow. Thanks Pia! I have posted some flyers today, have a number of calls to make tomorrow. It's so hard not knowing what's happened but the help that everyone is giving has been amazing. I'm using my phone at the mo but I will get on my Dads laptop tomorrow and see if there are any other dogs that need looking for while i'm out and about. Put a flyer up in pemb tesco today for Rocky but he's been found!! Happy news keeps you going :-) x x x
Mash
Hi - dont want to state the obvious and sure it has been covered, but has anyone been in touch with Network Rail. Not a nice thing to think about definitely worth contacting them and staying in contact on a regular basis. From experience, you need to keep speaking to them, even if it is asking the same question every day. Really hope Shep is home soon and if you need a bit of printing doing to help out then let me know.
Pia
Sorry he's not back yet :-( I've been up with Henry for two hours this morning, everyone is aware of Shep being missing. Will keep looking, stay strong & best of luck x
AnnieSparky
Hellyglo thanks for info....and think you are right...its worth covering all possibilities. Do you have help doing the posters? I can put a few more up for you if needed...am thinking the more the better! Lots of luck and fingers crossed xx
Hellyglo
Thanks again everyone! AnnieSparky - I'm just about to print some A6 flyers to post along Rainford Rd, Holt Cres & Ave. Will be doing this tonight. We walk through the back fields covering all the ponds/streams every day/night now, I am sure someone must have him because he would come home. He's been doing that walk for the last 6 years. He know's Billinge Hill walks, Carr Mill Dam and the 'blue hills' to Garswood. These are the main walks we do locally. Really do appreciate all your help! Thanks skippy, it was defo worth a try! Scootjockey - Thanks again, i've wrote your number down. Have read about Tay, a beautiful dog! So sad and I hope he comes home to you. Will be looking out for him also x x x
scootjockey
Have shared on my FB. Stay strong. x

Hi Helyglo. Sorry Sheps missing hope he found soon. I saw his laminated poster on Orrell Water park gates and people are aware up there of him missing. Ive walked the canal today and intend to do lots of walking this weekend if there anywhere youd like us to cover just let me know, I dont have a working printer but if you have any posters Id gladly poster any area for you get in touch 213587.Im in Orrell and stolen Tays mum x Happy to help.
skippy
Hi Hellyglo...it was always a bit of a longshot....sorry it wasn't him though, but hope he's back with you soon.x
AnnieSparky
Sorry it wasnt Shep this time :( ....we'll all keep looking.......its possible someone has taken him in. When I was at the fields yesterday I wasnt sure where the footpath was but just thinking do you think its worth putting a few more posters up on the surrounding streets by Holt Crescent?
Of course he could be hiding out in the bushes or grass....the nice lady with a collie I spoke to yesterday said there were a couple of ponds (I didnt get to that area) but he may try to drink from there....esp dawn and dusk. I noticed posters on the other side of the road to the fields.....is that an area he knows too?
Will try to get down there again soon to help search but good to know so many people are looking out for him.x
Hellyglo
Not Shep :-( Worth a try though x

We are overwhelmed by how much support you are giving us, thank you so much! I spoke to Maggie earlier which was a great help. I'll print out the business card info tomorrow (on my phone now). I've been through the woodlsnd at the back tonight and have also had a drive around the neighbouring villages. Staying positive. You are amazing people. Will check in tomorrow x
Maggie
Thank you so much everyone for all your help and support, its greatly appreciated.

I did send a text to Hellyglo earlier on today to see if they had any news, sadly Shep is still missing. I have just this min phoned but no answer so ive left a message asking hellyglo to call me back
Andi
Hellyglo - so sorry to hear about Shep, have you seen the layout for business cards with Sheps' details on that Mash put on the Missing Pets Facebook page for you? I can email it to you if that is easier for you to print off? We used them in this size to hand out to dog walkers, fishermen, ice cream men, basically anyone who was out and about and as they are wallet size people were happy to put them in their pockets/purses so that they always had the contact number to hand in case of a sighting? Let me know if you want it emailed, happy to do so and good luck - don't give up !!! xx
AnnieSparky
Had a drive around Holt Crescent area then walked the fields by the entrance off the main road (sorry dont know the area well, saw your posters:) I put a few posters up and gave a few out to people walking their dogs, spoke to a lovely lady with a collie herself......all are looking out for Shep. Also spoke to a nice St Helens Council man who was parked up by the childrens playground. He said he is there everyday and will look out for him, I gave him Sheps details...had to write them out as had run out of posters....but told him he could see a photo on DogsLost!
There is alot of long grass, bushes, woods he could be hiding in....but alot of people go there so fingers crossed Shep will show himself soon.xx
(did see 2 small collies coming out of a farm track wandering onto UpHolland Road....sadly not Shep...but stopped and guided them back up safely....they belonged to people with horses....didnt get chance to give them a poster but might be a good idea if they are out and about on horseback)xLast edited: 2012-07-25 16:08:20 by AnnieSparky

Ive been up with my dog this morning. Seen several posters around the Beacon area. Unfortunately no sightings of Shep :-( Spoke to fellow dog walkers and everyone I met to make them aware. Chin up chick even if hard. We'll keep looking x
AnnieSparky
Fingers crossed Shep is home soon....I'll keep a lookout on my travels.
Smaller posters/hand out are really good to hand out and post through doors.
When I've helped with other dogs, the D/L co ordinator Majorjet has emailed the poster in different sizes in word doc form so easy to print off.
Its really hard and your poor Dad too but lots of dogs are found safe and well.....am sure all your searching, posters and spreading the word will help get Shep home xx
Hellyglo
Fantasic! thanks for all your support, posters are up now so am hoping to hear something soon. Will print some flyers to pass out.I've been so upset today, just taken photos to Leigh Cats and Dogs. I have people sharing the poster on FB and I'll add it onto the suggested pg tomorrow when I'm back in work. Shep went missing on the footpath (behind Holt Cres) between where I live and Eddleston Fields, only 150yds from home. So odd. My Dad was with him at the time and he's feeling terrible, feel so bad for him as it's not his fault! Shep doesn't do disappearing acts! I'll try and keep positive, thanks for all of your support, Helena x x x
Tig
I live in Billinge and am out every evening around carmill dam and the surrounding fields with my 2 collies so I will ensure I take a spare lead and keep a keen eye out for him. Can you post where he was when he went missing? My Blue Merle collie was stolen last year and with the fantastic help and support of DogLost I got her back after 2 months. Keep positive ensure the posters are all over in shops in the village, Rainford and places like Pets at home in St Helens and Wigan etc. I targeted every vets in St Helens, Wigan, Warrington and surrounding area so that is an option. I handed out A5 copies of the poster(always have copies with you) to people at the weekends at the shops etc or were you normaly walk him so again keep him visible as it all helps - Keep positive Indie and I are proof this works.
Best of luck - Michelle, Indie and Jess
Mash
Hellyglo - if you go to the Missing Pets facebook page you might the uploaded file there useful when out and about to give to dogwalkers etc. Hope Shep is home soon
Mash
Hi Jayne - head office. Have uploaded a file to the Missing Pets facebook page that contains card size prints which we found very helpful on our search for poor Badger. Not sure if you want to add to here if you can - can only seem to put on FB under a new thread

Posted on Twitter and Facebook page. I'm up round Billinge Beacon daily with my dog, will keep eyes open and fingers crossed.

Get as many posters up as you can everywhere. The word will soon get around. Be positive my Bailey was found after 3 days because of a poster. Someone had her from the night she went missing and was planning on keeping her until they saw it! xxx
