- oh poor you, there are lots of nasty bugs going around. We are still hoping, but we still have no news at all. We will never give up but we do not seem to be any closer than we were 4 weeks ago. He is definitely enjoying someone else's sofa. Will keep you posted.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- No concrete progress I'm afraid. Eventually managed to get Tesco to look at the CCTV footage. Only dog in sight of the camera during the time in question was a small black "poodle-like" dog (security man's description!) and not Pixley. This was eventually collected by a young girl and her mother. However, it is possible that he may have been tied up further back in the trolleys etc. and thus not visible to the camera. We're trying to contact the person who called us with this report to get more precise detailsLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Any news on the cctv footage? Was it Pixley? If so, like you say they live within walking distance. Get EVERYONE you know together and work out a plan to cover all surrounding streets and knock on all the doors! Hope he's home soon. xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- We are really hoping. Whilst we were out postering, popped over to Tesco even though it wasn't open, the trolley guys were there. We asked one and he remembered the dog and thought it looked very much like Pixley, and even commented that he sat like Pixley in the photograph! And even better, where the dog was tied was right underneath a hidden cctv camera, so guess where we will be at 0730 tomorrow morning :) Just hope the camera was working OK. Will let folks know what happensLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Just had a phone call from someone who saw the advert on the front cover of the local paper (hooray) who is almost certain she saw Pixley tied outside Tescos in Cheltenham (the big one) at about 7.00pm on Friday evening (30/9). He had a green lead on and looked happy and healthy. We have shown her more photos and she is pretty sure it is our boy as he is so distinctive. We are just about to poster more in the area near tescos as we are assuming who ever is looking after him is within walking distance of Tescos. That locates him out of Hesters Way area (as that is quite a way), and into more St Marks or over into St Pauls area. We did do some postering in that area (there is one in Tescos for example!) but hadn't done a concentrated blast. Will try and get a look at the CCTV camera footage tomorrow, if the security guard will let us. So here's hoping.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Hi Abbiee, thank you so much for all your support and Pixley is so handsome it is not surprising that folks stop to look at the poster in your car. We spent another day searching around, but still no sign at all. We still believe he is somewhere in the Hesters Way area, we don't know why but just a feeling, possibly taken in by some very well meaning person who just doesn't understand about reporting stray dogs. Sooooooooooo our next move is to try and leaflet all the flats in the H Way area to try and contact these folks. Any other thoughts and ideas would be very welcome.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Lots of people have stopped to look at the posters in my car too. I'm in Charlton Kings, but often drive around other areas.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Unfortunately no follow-up phone call from the "sighting" yesterday. Having visited the address of the "pup rescuer" it turns out that she doesn't actually live there but was associated with the address in the past... In the meantime we've looked/asked around PE Way to no avail. Hope that our mystery caller has a change of heart soon.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Still no firm news on the whereabouts of this elusive hound; however we have received a possible sighting outside the shops in Princess Elizabeth Way, Cheltenham this morning. This location fits with the original sighting the day after he disappeared. Made more plausible by the fact the reporter saw the poster and further ID photographs at the RSPCA office in Cheltenham whilst she was delivering an abandoned pup this afternoon. Unfortunately, we have not been able to speak directly to her to confirm exactly where she thinks Pixley was as she did not leave a telephone number to contact her back on. Although she has said she will try and call back, so here's hoping.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Sorry if our previous post wasn't entirely clear. When we have a sighting we always go and check the area. We also show the sighter(!?) a selection of photos from different angles etc. to give the best chance of a positive ID. In this case, the sighter didn't think there was that strong a resemblence (particularly as Pixley has some quite distinct white markings). On a more positive front, we had another call from someone who may have seen Pixley on a collar/lead tied up outside the Beechwood arcade on Saturday moring. This witness is going to look at more pictures today but initially feels that the dog she saw had a whiter, rounder face and was bigger. The search continues...Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- PLEASE don't discount a dog just because it's wearing a collar. Anyone could have put a collar on a dog and then the dog get out again. I despair when owners discount a possible sighting because the dog is not identical to their dog WHEN IT WENT MISSING. If a dog is absent for a little time things can change. My advice would be to check anything remotely like your dog and anywhere. Remember your are only going on a description and even some rescue centres wrongly descirbe breeds and even sexes! - ValLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Unfortunately, no news on Pixley to report. The previous "sighting" on 15/9/05 is now discounted as unlikely as the lady was sure the dog she saw dog was wearing a collar and ours wasn't when he left... We've spent all afternoon making our own mailshot to ~100 local vets, petshops etc. We've made links to our posters/mailshot on this thread running on the Dogpages Forum - these may be helpful to others looking for their dogs. http://www.dogpages.org.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=85615&st=10 Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Well the mystery and search continues for Pixley. Had a recent possible sighting (definitely more certain than the Prestbury one) at 5.00pm tonight in and around Benhall Park. This area is plastered in posters and within a mile of our house. We have been down and of course no sign!! The lady who contacted us is checking out this website to see if it was our Pixley, he was just running around and not easy to see clearly. She will call and confirm hopefully today. The dog seen was running alone, with no obvious person with him, and wearing a tatty collar. He didn't look too bad, certainly not for a dog that had been on the run for a week. Possible he was taken in, fitted with an old collar, and then escaped again!! Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- Still no luck, despite local paper coverage offering a substantial reward and a zillion posters nothing has come back. One very, very tentative possible sighting in the Prestbury area of Cheltenham, in the fields behind the school in the last few days (nothing more specific than that unfortunately). This is very long way from home (about 4 miles), however it is quite close to his former home (of 7 years +) in Cromwell Road, Whaddon, so it maybe he worked his way back to his original territory? Unsure how likely this could be. Still not given up hope, although we are not too optimistic now.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

- No more news since possible sighting on Thursday (8/9/05) morning in Hesters Way Park. We've been postering all round West Cheltenham for the last two days - +100 posters everywhere, outside schools, supermarkets, pubs, traffic lights etc. There's been a lot of rain here but hopefully the posters will hold up for a few days. Because of Pixley's background (see below) I've managed to get a story in the Echo (local paper) together with a picture to run on Monday. We've also got a picture advert to run from Tue-Fri. Pixley was a rescue dog. Before we rescued him he'd a bit of a rough life (hence his scars). When his previous owner was murdered(!) he was left at the Cheltenham Animal Shelter for nine months where because of his appearance/age he was overlooked. We rescued him in July last year and he has been very happy with us. We've contacted all the local vets, wardens, police and sanctuaries, given leaflets to postmen and every dog owner we've met. Any other ideas or suggestions or help gratefully appreciated. Fingers crossed for a happy ending... Mobile 07876 647248Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
