- I am so very sorry to hear about the tragic loss of this beautiful girl. It's heartbreaking and I do feel for you, I know just how you are feeling, I lost one of my own dogs on the railway line in June of this year. Jack was a black labrador just 2 years old. There was also another dog lost to the same line a couple of miles away about 2 weeks earlier. I decided to start up some dialogue with Network Rail because the line is not fenced in the place where Jack accessed it. There is just a stone wall broken down in that spot. The place where Fudge was killed had a big hole in the fence. I found out that Network Rail has an obligation in law to protect trespassers where a danger exists. If you signed the campaign for Cassie's law you may already be aware of this. The response I'm getting from NR is not encouraging, but I'm going to keep at them. You'll still be in shock at the moment, but If you were thinking of doing anything similar and you don't already have this info it can be found on Wikipedia:
Briefly: “The Occupiers' Liability Act 1984 (c. 3) is an Act of the Parliament of the United Kingdom that covers occupiers' liability for trespassers. In British Railways Board v Herrington 1972 AC 877, the House of Lords had decided that occupiers owed a duty to trespassers”
“The Act extends the common duty of care to trespassers as well as visitors, providing that this duty is to be required when the occupier has actual or constructive knowledge that a danger exists and that a trespasser is or may be near it.”
You can read this in more detail in Wikipedia by following this link:

- Its just so hard to see yet another lovely girl lost to the railway. I am heartened to see that there were some lovely Network Rail people involved here, as it is so often not the case. Well done to those with kind hearts. God bless you sweet Bramble and your loving family. Sometimes God takes his special ones quicker than we would like, but he takes them quickly and without pain and it is because they are so special that they have already earnt their wings. Together forever. xxx

- Im so very sorry at this the saddest of outcomes. Im thinking of Helen tonight and send her my sincerest wishes . I would like to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart who has helped with Bramble , searching and postering, and above all supporting Helen . There are too many to mention , you know who you are you have done a fantastic job. But the people I want to thank the most are Geoff and his team at Network rail who did an incredible job today bringing her back . The track there is extremely dangerous with 125 mph trains every couple of minutes, a plan was implemented and they carried it out , and because of their bravery , Bramble will be home soon . Sleep in peace lovely girlXXX

- I emailed Chris and was so hoping he would mention Bramble. I contacted the show regarding Kip the blind spaniel and was told that they do not mention missing dogs as it would not be fair to just mention one and also they did not want to be swamped with emails, calls etc. Still, I was hoping Chris might still sneak it in, but I don't think the emails would even be passed on to him. So hoping that the lovely Bramble is found safe and well very soon xxx

- Hi Just registered as I was impressed with how this site dealt with finding Pongo from Lyneham last week.
I have put up posters for Bramble in Regus House on the Windmill Hill Business Park which is inbetween Blagrove and the Link (Asda). - 2012-11-20 09:46 Reynard

- Have been to Link Centre this evening and visited all fast food outlets and the pub as she may go there looking for scraps left behind also went into Link and spoke to receptionist who was already aware due to seeing it on Facebook.Sorry cant make tomorrow as booked solid with jobs all day but one tip if searching the Link Centre area is if anyone can bring a bike then that would be the best way to search the area as it is surrounded by a network of cycle paths and underpasses only accessible by bike or foot with lots of wooded areas that cant be seen from the roads.
- 2012-11-19 22:44 Reynard
- Helpers are meeting at Batleys Blagrove at 11.30 am tomoro Tues, if anyone can come along and lend a hand, or maybe poster all the areas around West Swindon Centre please.Last edited: 2012-11-19 22:46:06 by Reynard

- Maybe she is still in the area and a BQ cooking sausages would lure her out?
- 2012-11-18 12:30 Goldenlady
- I know nothing of this area, but have been following as I too have goldens. Have had a good look at the area on Google and strongly feel someone has her. Not very helpful I am afraid. I know travellers are more interested in terriers, but...... A tracker dog sounds a good idea. Hope poor Bramble is found soon. She will be terrified.... What a great site this is and well done all you wonderful people who search so hard.. keep up the good work.
- 2012-11-18 10:56 lmoore - Area Volunteer, Wiltshire
- Was back at the back of Batleys early this morning as I was hoping after the heavy frost that I may see some tracks but nothing at all spoke with owner who said she tracked with her other dog into Man Truck field but the dog lost the scent by the brook which is difficult to cross by foot A proper tracker maybe able to pick up the scent again the other side if she did cross it This would then give her access to the underpass of the M4 which comes out right alongside the travellers camp a d then on towards Wroughton
- 2012-11-18 08:35 Reynard
- Well done IMorre i am out all day again today but think a tracker dog would be the answer ,,,,any one out there that can help? (I will come over on Mon & bring my dogs to the fields at the back which is South Leaze)

- Have contacted SDAH today he was very helpful but hasn't seen her.Have spoken to a friend of mine who has a contact within the travelers camp so may find something there but they are more interested in terrier types.Do you think it may work if someone brought a tracker dog in as we have only traced her as far as the field at the back of Man Truck centre. I cant print off any posters at the moment as printer has run out of ink and have to order some more but it might be a good idea to get a poster into West Swindon Postal Sorting Office on Monday they cover all the houses in the area she is lost.Being an ex postie myself I know that they soon notice a new dog on their route.Last edited: 2012-11-17 21:38:49 by lmoore - Area Volunteer, Wiltshire

- If she is food orientated, tinned pilchards, left in small amounts near the place she went missing can be enticing as they have a very strong smell. If there is a Gypsy site close by, I would definitely get someone to speak to them too & see if they can help. They have been invaluable in two previous searches I've been involved in that resulted in locating both dogs safe & sound. Keeping everything crossed that Bramble is found safe & soon!

- Christine do you know if her owner contacted Swindon and District Animal Haven which is just up the road from Batleys. Lots ofdogs end up there if found out of hours as he is the only person that will take them at night.
- 2012-11-16 19:52 Christine
- Was out helping look for her behind Batleys up and down in the wooded area, sadly no sign. I did find a red slip lead on one of the bushes and the owner wasn't sure if she had it on or not but she did say it was like one she has.It would be nice for an offical to go and check the Gypsy/traveller site.
- 2012-11-16 18:16 lmoore - Area Volunteer, Wiltshire
- No sign of her anywhere near Batleys I had two of my ambulances out searching back roads the other side of the railway and we walked all the paths and tracks around the trading estate. There is an underpass that leads to the Windmill Hill Tdg est and then after that a footpath over the M4 which would bring her out at the back od Spittleborough Farm if she went that way

- No sightings of her as yet today. Have met with owner and we are searching the area between the trading estate and the railway line. There is a fairly large ditch between the two so hopefully she will not cross over it.

- Thanks Reynard, have put a message on for the night shift to be aware, log 330. I wonder if maybe Bramble has been picked up and taken to Brinkworth Kennels? There's been no news this end this even. Close to Junct 16. I'll spread the word. Keep safe Bramble.

- Batley cash & carry Blagrove Trading Estate SN5 8YG 0179371 5200 & is near Junction 15 the back of Batleys is South Leaze & Countryside, Railway line, Gypsy Site, Wroughton, the other way is Freshbrook / Toothill & a foot path that goes all the way down to House of Frazer. If she is running towards Chippenham (Chippenham is 12 miles away) she will pass M4 junct 15 ,Biffa Tip, Blooms Garden Centre & Pet Shed 01793 853 724 & maybe on to Wootton Bassett (which is just 2 miles away) which all need posteringLast edited: 2012-11-15 23:29:46 by Reynard

- I've now put Bramble's photo on.
Can email alerts go out please. - 2012-11-15 22:36 Lisa Baker
- Bramble went missing from the area of Batleys cash & carry on the Blade road Industrial estate, Swindon. Apparently, she was not wearing a collar but she is microchipped. She is approx. 7 years old & was last seen by the cash & carry staff running along the fields by the railway towards Chippenham. She is approx. 15 miles from home & does not know the area..

- Could we have more information - how did Bramble go missing etc. I have family in SN5 and one family member is a professional dog walker so I can alert them. Golden Retrievers don't normally wander too far so hopefully Bramble will be back home by tomorrow. Is Bramble microchipped?
