  • Other Info Bertie was chasing rabbits with another dog. The other dog came back but Bertie didn't. He went off at around 4.30pm. It was almost dark so who was around then? We have looked since 7.20am this morning. Bertie is very slim and fit with a gentle personality. He would not go off easily with someone. Bertie is nearly 9 years old. PLEASE contact us with any info/sightings. Substantial reward offered for information leading to his safe return.Thank you.

BERTIE IS BACK!!!!!!2 men from the villafe, George and Kenny, saw him running down the street towards home. Bert knows them well, and hopped in the van with them!!!!! He was coming down the street from Winster, not far from home, and on the street where I tramped with P. and Whispa yesterday. He's very dirty and thin and his eyes are very stressed but he's having a big cuddle at the moment on the settee. THANK YOU so much to everyone at DogLost and everyone else on Facebook, we have had tremendous support. Bert's having an Asbo for a while. Thanks again, I'll send a donation later when I've talen down all the posters. Karen

Bertie had nearly made his way home, he was already in Bonsall village, when he was spotted by 2 men who know him well. They opened their van door and he jumped straight in to get a lift for the last bit. I'm not surprised, as he only had to continue turning left at every crossroads to run full circle and get home. He is thin and very dirty, and overjoyed to be home again.

I am getting more convinced that Bertie has been napped. There have been no sightings of him. If. on that wed night, someone was out rabbitting or shooting (we hear that some nights)Bertie would greet another dog and would be easy to grab. He really is a handsome dog! However, he's nearly 9, not 7, time passes quickly. If he was taken away that would explain Bonnie's odd beahviour when she came home and her complete lack of interest in looking down holes etc for him, she would normally do that. She has been very quiet and has little interest in going out. As I explained before, we have moved house but it's less than 100yds away and Bert has friends in all the local houses. I can't believe he would get lost unless he was taken out of the area. He has walked all the paths for miles round (amnd covered most of the fields). I want to offer £500 for his return, is there any reason why I shouldn't? Thank you again for all your support and particularly to P. and Whispa. We are, as you can imagine, devastated. It's the not knowing.

Thank you for all your help so far. Please keep your eyes peeled and your ears to the ground. We really need to get Bertie home now. Thank you.

Tx for the update Owl.

Wispa got a good strong trail which was only hard to follow at one point when a fox had been running around on it. But another sniff of Bertie's coat and she was back on track. Bertie appears to have continued up the field he was last seen on and gone on to the Limestone Way, a very well used trail. But then he went through a stile and cut across a field to join a single track road leading to the village of Winster. We stopped tracking today having done nearly 2 hours and between 4 and 5 miles and plan to continue tomorrow where we left off. Bertie is tending to turn left at junctions, and this may bring him back to his home area. If he is running a triangle as they so often do, we are looking at a fair sized one. His people tell me he is a very fit dog so it's not surprising. There are many places to shelter. Most of the fields are empty of stock and there are a lot of small stone barns. Although Bertie likes to chase rabbits, he is no good at catching them so he may well gravitate to farms and houses to scavenge.

Been looking in area myself today but no luck, really hope you get some news soon x

I'm sorry that you haven't found Bertie yet but I hope he's still out there and will be home soon. I'm sending his details and photo on my next list of dogs for the Countryman's Weekly adverts just in case someone has picked him up.

We searched agin this morning and this afternoon went out with P. and the tracker dog. More of that tomorrow. This evening we have been up the fields with the listening device and checked the badger holes and 2 caves. Nothing. We are pretty desperate.
BBKM
Saying prayers again tonight for Bert, lets hope he is off having a few days adventure and will be home safe very soon. Wish I lived closer to help you x

We have been out all day looking for Bert and have had loads of help from people in Bonsall and farther afield. No sightings. A local landlady told me there was a lot of noise in the next field at 10.30 on that Wed. night. It sounded like alarm calls from fox-cubs. Did something happen then? I am almost certain that Bert isn't lost, but that some mishap has befallen him. It's a very sad house without him. Thank you everyone for your help, we'll keep hoping!!
rottie
i may also be able to help tomorrow, only on ashbourne, will keep an eye on here for any news

Hi - I live in Oker and I often go walking over Masson Hill to Bonsall in the dusk or even in the dark with my Spinone (we were in that area on Wednesday night around that time but didn't see anyone/anything) so I'll join the search, I do so hope he's found, I know what you're going through, I'll keep my eyes peeled, I'm off up there right now!

Owner only moved house about 3 days ago but it is only across the field from her other house. Bertie has gone off before but never overnight.
Unknown
Spoke to owner she is sending a photo in later on. Bertie may have gone down a hole but he is a very slim dog anyway, so owner is worried he may have no weight to lose.
