She is mostly black with a bit of tan on legs and chest and under her tail, see picture attached, she is the dog on the left. LOST on 1st January at 4pm on our home ground every day walk along railway line. Rio spooked and bolted off when heavy gun shots were fired in the Bygrave area.

Sadly I've had a text from Andrea saying she found Rio's body an hour ago. Thank you to Lorraine for your compassion and to Dog Lost for what you do to help people be reunited with their much loved family members.
Lorraine
I can't and don't want to believe anything bad has happened to her. We are a nation of dog lovers, if she'd been hit by a car I'm sure someone somewhere would've seen or reported it. Perhaps someone has taken her in and hasn't thought about the possibility of her being microchipped. They've seen there's no ID tag and so don't know what to do. Have you thought about putting an advert with her photo in the local newspapers?
Jo
I called Highways today to ask what they did if they found a dead dog. The answer was "nothing" if it's not wearing an ID disc. I asked if they scanned them for microchips, "NO"! I found this unbelievable. How long does it take to scan a dog and make a call and help someone draw a line under a very sad situation.
Jo
Thanks again Lorraine. All the usual places have been informed, vets, kennels etc and we've also spoken to the farmer who farms Weston who just happened to be with the shoot and gamekeeper, so they now all know. Apparently she was on the flyover but then went onto the A505!!! This was when the police were called. The last apparent sighting was near the new tunnel on the A505 just outside Baldock. This section of road is all fenced so as she's not been reported as being hit by a car, there must be a gap she's gone through - or someone has picked her up :( No new sighting since NY's day.
Lorraine
Hi there, I won't be back over in Baldock/Wallington until Mon but I'll keep a check on here and if Rio's still missing I'll definitely take some posters out with me. Have you tried the kennels on the Royston Road (A505)? I know that if the dog warden picks up any dogs he takes them there - I think the one he uses is called A1 Kennels or something similar. Also try the lost pet register online. And all the vets in the area, there is a surgery out in Buntingford that cars heading out along that road might go towards . . . I've got everything crossed for Rio's safe return. Lorraine x x

I've been out all morning with Andrea and we have postered the area from Baldock all the way along the Wallington road and in a cirular route back to the A505. We've also left small slips with phone numbers on with anyone we saw out walking. Sadly no new sightings.
Jo
Thanks for replying to Lorraine's question Carmel and Lorraine if you think to mention Rio to people you may see, that would be great as well. I'm off out this morning to meet Andrea and put some poster from Cuberlow Green, tracing the back road back to Baldock where she was last seen. Be nice to have another sighting.
Carmel
Lorraine, thanks for reading, and for keeping a lookout for Rio. This is from another forum: "she is microchipped but her leather collar with disc came off in the incident, she still wears another brown soft webbed collar." If you have a printer and could put up just a couple of posters on your route Rio's owner will be very grateful.
Lorraine
Bless you, this must be very worrying for the owner. I'm a dog walker and walk dogs most days in the area of the Baldock to Wallington Road. I'll keep a look out for Rio. Does she have a collar and tag on? Lorraine x x
