I thought of Max straight away when I read about the found dog in B30. Kings Norton is not very far from B45. I spent a lot of time looking for Max when he went missing. It would be fabulous if he turned up after all this time.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Angie, it is really difficult without any up-to-date sightings. I know there has been a leaflet in local papers and all the vets have been postered. Wonder if we could do the buses or another go on the Ed Doolan show? I just can't believe we have no new sightings. We have to make the public aware again. I will be able to go over more as the school holidays are here again. Liz xxxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanx Chris and thanx Liz. I really appreciate your help. As is obvious, I'm back. I don't think that there were any more sightings whilst I was away, but I haven't managed to catch up with Debby yet. It's been 6 months now!!!!! Last sighting was 1st March at around 3.30pm heading down Linehouse Lane towards Barnt Green. He may well suddenly pop up. He did before, after quite a few weeks of nothing. Must admit, I'm at a loss as to what to do next. Anyone have any ideas? I'm also very aware that this is still very painful for his owner Debby but I'm sure that if anyone can think of anything, she will be really grateful, so will I!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Angie, I spoke to Debby a couple of weeks ago, to see if she had any news. I could go up for you. Do you go at certain times of the day? I have my A-Z, so will look for the Lane. Liz xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Unfortunately, the dog who was seen on the 1st March, who was a large black dog, hasn't been seen since. If it is Max, this wouldn't be unusual as he does tend to do disappearing acts. Thing is, once again, we are desperate for a sighting. Even if it isn't Max, he needs to be found! My worry is that I'm going away until the beginning of April. If there is anyone out there who can take themselves and/or their dogs to the vicinity of roundhill woods, Linehouse Lane, Marlbrook, just for an hour to have a look around, I'd be really grateful.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Owner had a call about a black lab caught in the Catshill area. You might know what we were thinking. I went over to see as owner was at work, and it wasn't Max. This lovely little chap was about the same age, but he was definitely a lab cross, gutted just doesnt describe the feeling. Anyway, on 1st March, Debby again had another call from a lady in Marlbrook area (this is where a dog looking like Max was originally seen). This lady said that she'd just seen a large black dog heading towards the Barnt Green area. She couldn't be sure if it was a labrador as she was some distance from him, but she said he was certainly on his own. She even went back and got her car out and drove around, but he'd gone. This sounds promising. Third time lucky, maybe?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Sounding promising Angie. I know he's going the wrong way but is he in a more built up area? Just thinking more people to notice him. If you need me to come out Saturday or Sunday and search let me know. Sue Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Another sighting of a dog answering Max's description on 23/24 Feb in Catshill Bromsgrove. This is a stone's throw from where there were several sightings within the last 2-3 weeks but thing is, Max is going the wrong way!!! Anyone in that area, please keep an eye out. I've done some more posters today and plan to get them out tomorrow. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Sue C - have pm'd you. Just to update - there has been a sighting of a black labrador answering description of Max in the area that I have recently postered. He was seen trying to cross a busy road but got scared and ran back the way he came. This was Tues Feb 21 at 11.30am. I'm still postering that area so hope for some more sightings so that we can try to get an idea of his movements.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Another sighting of black lab in same area. Man with his two dogs saw a dog matching Max's description - but WITHOUT the distinctive blue collar - in the early hours of Sunday 5th Feb. Rang Debby 15mins later after one of our posters fell out of his paper that he was tidying up!! The two dogs spooked "Max" and he ran off. This sighting very close to home, also very, very close to M42. Nothing since. Have updated posters and hope to poster around this area again this week. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks everyone for your good wishes. We did have a lady ring when she saw the leaflet drop out of the paper. Her husband saw a large, skinny black dog on Friday 27th Jan at 7.30 in the morning. He was coming out of a local landfill site and going over into a field opposite. This area is very close to where Max lives, maybe just a couple of miles. The leaflet really did do its job because although the lady had seen our posters around, she had assumed that Max had been found!! Everyone in that area would have had a leaflet and so are aware that he is still missing. No sightings since though. The local, free newspaper have interviewed Debby again and hopefully, there will be a good piece in the paper on Weds. 1st Feb. Hoping for a bigger piece this time! Fingers crossed.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks for the lead Mayhew, but as you may now have guessed, it wasn't Max at Rosedene. Debby, the owner, and I have arranged for five and a half thousand copies of a poster to be inserted into the local free newspapers. This number will cover Rubery, Barnt Green, Marlbrook, & Romsley. They should be in the papers on Friday 27th January. We have now got to hope that someone can give us a lead. Fingers crossed!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I am not sure if you are getting near enough to Max for this to be of any help, but I have a recipe for Liver Cake. It is very very stinky and a bit yucky but I am sure to a Labrador it is great!! 1lb Lambs liver - boiled and finely chopped (keep liquid) Mix together the following using the liquid from the liver - 1lb sausage meat, 14 ozs self raising flour, 2 eggs, 3 teaspoons minced garlic Add chopped liver and bake in foil lined cake tins for approx 1 hour, middle shelf, Gas mark 3. If he comes near enough to you, the stink of this may just tempt him! As a Lab owner myself I now how greedy they are as well as how cheeky!! Good luck. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi LostLabs, no problem. I have a Springer (in case you did'nt guess) She is extremely nifty with her nose. I am not saying it would work, but I guess anything is worth a try. How does Max interact with other dogs? Is he likely to "appear" if we try this approach do you think? I don't mind giving it a try though, if Deb wants.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

No news on Max yet other than ' something ' is and has been taking the bait. Debbie has asked if any helpers can form a rota to help to get a visual on Max. Can anyone who would be able to sit in their car watching for say an hour at a time or however long they are able please email me with any available times / days.. Debbie and Angie are trying to share this between them atm but this means no other area is being covered. Also if anyone is going out in the next hour or so could they email me as there is something we need to check. I am not being elusive with info, just prudent, as sightings / locations are possibly not just being visited by helpers !!! Please email rhoni@lostlabs.com with any help offered. Thank you. At least he has made a "den" and is using his wild instincts to survive. And, it makes sense if he has become hand shy, as he as obviously sort of got used to living outdoors now. If only he knew how much he is wanted safely back home. It's so frustrating! Have you tried another dog to try and sniff him out? Using something Debby has with Max's scent on it and taking the dog to where you think Max is. Stupid question as I expect you have tried everything. My dog is a very good sniffer.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

We have had a second red herring, but as for Max no new sightings although some evidence of where he sleeps now. Also we are now seeing a pattern of movement and know his routes from A to B....but it appears someone has made a grab at him or something as he is getting hand / people shy now which in turn is keeping him elusive.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Nothing again today! I've been out and put posters up on the bus stops all the way along Frankley Beeches Rd which leads from the Dingle Pub into Northfield. I stopped at Sainsburys carpark and put loads of posters under car windscreen wipers. The shops by the Dingle have Max posters with his picture on now! I also put posters on a couple of bus stops on Egghill Lane which leads back down into Frankley. I revisited Waseley, and Gunner Lane and also went to Frankley at around 3pm which is when the little ones come out of Junior school. We need a sighting, don't we?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Been out with Debbie and Angie today but no sightings at all. Walked from Gunners Lane to Waseley Country Park and across other fields to the derelict barn and asked people if they'd seen him. Lots of people are aware of him being missing and are looking out for him but there don't seem to be any sightings since Friday. Debbie was going to stake out another area after I left about 2pm so hopefully she'll find someone who's seen him. ChrisLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Living in the Rubery area myself, my eyes have been constantly peeled as I have been out and about. My son goes to Holywell, which backs on to the Wasely's and has told all his friends to keep a look out around the area and also my daughter who goes to Wasely Hills. I have also told as many people as possible who live in and around the area. Good Luck Deb, I will keep looking too as I am out and about.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
Animal House Rescue
Have just caught up with messages from today. There is a route from the Wasley Country Park to Gunner Lane as Donna and myself walked along it with Debbie on Friday which resulted in us discovering the disused farm and converted barn where we left a leaflet. The driveway for this property comes out at the top of Gunner Lane which is where we all met up later on that day after the sighting in Rubery under the flyover. What we really need now are a few sightings over the next few days to pinpoint the perimiter of his area to find out which way he is moving and at what times during the day. Max is playing cute and not using much of the main roads. Frankley estate is like a rabbit warren, many cul-de sacs and roads that have about 100 pathways joining each together. You cannot get from one to the other by car only by walking in many cases and on the one side where he has been seen on three occasions there is a wood which gives him perfect cover to get onto the Wasley hills without being seen. We still need to leaflet any of the roads still not done as the more ppl who know he is out the better. Unfortunately because not everybody knows, we have had three phone calls to say he was seen but a couple of days ago as they have only just seen the poster. So any help in covering the rest of the area with leaflets would be greatly appreciated. Dogs who are on the run develop set patterns to their movements and we need to find out what his pattern is. We will be out tomorrow and hope we get a sighting or two.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi sorry am about but family arrived for celebrations and I get withdrawel synptoms and have to come back here....As long as there are enough people a search would be great. Otherwise, because Max is thin and appears not learn't his foraging survival skills I feel he is very suceptable to food, hence the pilchards and tripe trail I said to Debbie....so with enough people search, but the food to the visitors centre back door still needs doing, hence the watch rota. As for ray we have already spoken to him and he is on standby should we get Max firmly in one place ( like the back door ) As with lenny its all about numbers !!!! Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Yeah, you are right Nik. It's just that so many times now we've just missed him and it's so frustrating. Lab experts rock on!!!! I'm out this morning from about 9am starting at Waseley Visitor Centre cos I'm going to ask if there's a way out from the park leading to Gunner Lane. If so - I'm doing that.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

You'd think kids would have lost interest in fireworks by now. The organised search seems a good idea, but I'm going to bow to the better judgement of the lab experts.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Max is def showing more now. Been with Debby, Donna & her partner and Caz for 2-3 hours this afternoon. Max showed up at around 9am today at the end of Gunner Lane - Rubery. Later at around 3.30ishpm a man on a moped told Debby that he'd just seen Max under the flyover in Rubery. We all got there within minutes, but missed him. However, we decided to trek back to Gunner Lane and to follow a dirt track which leads to a converted barn on the right and a derelict one on the left. I was looking down onto a field from the derelict barn and saw a man with 2 dogs. Suddenly a black lab showed and started to play with one of the other dogs, quite madly for a couple of mins, and a minute later another man came in to the field. I assumed that the dog belonged to him apparently not! Donna appeared approx 10mins later and said to Deb that she was sure she'd seen Max in this field and play around with another dog for a couple of minutes and shoot out of the top of the field. Deb, Caz and I went through the top of the field and ended up on another field not far from a school playing field!!! Caz thought she saw a lone dog at the edge of the playing area so we all started to approach and then we let Deb go ahead on her own. Unfortunately, a bloody firework went off and the dog disappeared. I'm not sure if Deb is available tomorrow because her husband is on call and there would be no-one to have the baby if he has to go. I will be available until about 1pm at the latest. I have told Debby that I will go back to Gunner Lane because the other thing is, from here, he's right back in Waseley Country Park. I don't know if anyone else may be available. On another note, I feel that we should try and get as many people together on one day and do an organised search, split into groups and each cover an area type thing. Thing is, because of the inclement weather, I think this should be as soon as poss. Is there anyone that is able to commit, even for a couple of hours ? WLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

More news!!! Max was def spotted at Waseley Hills Country Park Visitor Centre 2-3 days ago at approx 4.30. He appeared at the door as if waiting to be let in, but the young lady thought he was with someone and saw him trot off towards park itself. Debby just phoned. She had a call from a bloke living at 21 Jubilee Cres. Frankley who states he definitely saw Max 2 days ago at approx 3pm (excellent description) but said he was soaking wet, which is why he noticed. Said he was def on his own and the chap contacted her cos he only just read the posters!!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just a bit of an update - Been out with Debbie again this pm. Advised to try and lure Max with putting food into a couple of the areas where sightings have been made, namely, Pearman Road, and the track that he appears to use to the school, but more specifically by the shops which are next door to the school. Donna spotted an area there (Arden Rd) which looks like something has possibly been bedding down, also, lots of chip papers. Could be foxes because there is an earth nearby but y'never know! We left some mackrel in tomato sauce in Pearman Rd tonite. Debby left a piece of Ellie's fleece too. We're going back tomorrow at about midday to leave 1/2 tin of food at each of the above sites and we'll be doing this for the next few days to see whether sightings of Max become more apparent, suggesting that he is around and taking the bait.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have to be honest Jazzi, I think that the lab that the old man caught was actually his own that had legged it! Debbie & I spoke to him at length about the sighting of an elderley chap putting a chain around a black labs neck etc, and he said "that was me"! I think the lab caught last night was just one of the many red herrings we've all had to sort out! Flippin nightmare!!!!!!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Thanks so much Angie. Debby met up with two guys who called her and claimed to have caught a black lab. Lyn met her at this ' union ' but had herself found a Goldie en route ! This black Lab is def not Max but debby took the lab to get him somewhere safe...( Lyn? ) But what it does do is unravel the ' sighting with no collar - sighting with blue collar ' scenario. We can now eliminate ( hopefully ) the no collar dog. Which in turn confirms every sighting with blue collar is in the same area, all the time, which is where the BBQ was set today. This is positive and has narrowed down the search. And completely backs up your day Angie. Two more ladies have been out tonight walking their labs in the area but to no avail. Was out with Debbie most of today. The sighting of Max appears very genuine. The lady was quite distrought when she realised that Max was the missing lab, once she had seen one of the flyers, she rang Debbie straightaway but it was still approx 1/2 hour after the sighting. She said he definitely still has his blue collar - described it to a T! She was on a cycle and saw Max sniffing in some bushes in a place called Pearman Rd (could be Close) which leads off Gannow Manor Cres and Max scooted out of the way and cowered under a hedge when she went by. Anyway, Debbie & I lit a barbecue - caused quite a stir cos we set it up at the roadside of Boleyn Rd which is close to the kiddies play area and opposite the school playing fields. We reckoned that Max was on his way to the area he was spotted in on Saturday. Neighbourhood watch tour the area by car all day and they have seen posters and will keep a special look out for him. Fingers crossed.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Have been out searching the area around Boleyn Road/Osmond Road/Arden Road today up until 3pm. We believe from the sightings this past weekend that Max is travelling in a clockwise circle and appears to be around the schools at times when the children are outside. Thanks Angie, I know you walked miles today and Debby was so grateful. Anyone who goes out and speaks to anyone must tell them Max is clearly very jumpy so it is vital no-one chases him. We don't want a situation where he becomes to scared to approach humans. Also he is nears roads and we don't want him bolting. Call Debby sraight away. Debby is currently going home for some scented items, daughters teddy that Max loved ( loves the little girl ) and clothing, placing in the spot he has been seen 3 times with some food.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Out with owner today. Tried to predict a route that would take Max to all the areas he's been spotted in. Mostly I feel it's the Rea Vally Cycle/Heritage route. Its mainly off road, lots of cover and yet still close enough to houses etc to scavenge for food. The route took us from where he was spotted yesterday, straight over to Rubery, down the A38 for a short while, back via pedestrian access to Morrisons and then back over to Frankley. No sightings at all today! Going to go to the school tomorrow and stand nearby incase Max shows in the morning. Jazzi, if you still plan to call the school it's the Frankley Community High School on New St/Boleyn Rd, Frankley.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Another sighting from yesturday. A man saw him crouched down / sat and was coaxing him in, he was said to be scared and cowering but receptive. Came in to 5 yards then a speeding car spooked him and he bolted. We are sure now Max was stolen, was seen not to be entire and dumped in area he does not know. He can't scent his way back. Debby is our there again. Any help gratefully recieved. In any event he must NOT be chased, sit down talk kindly and throw food to draw him in. Hi Angie, thanks for going out. You are actually right on the doorstep there, so know the area well which will be a great help. Hi Lost Labs. Just come back from a fairly quick scout round of the area you've mentioned. I actually live in Cofton Hackett myself, opposite Lickey Woods. I'll take out some more posters tomorrow, particularly targeting the Bristol Road area, which is a main road that follows on from New Road. If Max was spooked, liklihood is he may well have kept on running in a relatively straight line, as you said before, following the roads, and it does lead him towards home. So frustrating. Bet his owner is beside herself. Well, I'll just keep going till we find him - he's got to be close now. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Angie, Was def Rubery at that time but apparently there is no high street as such it is called New street. Seen going South in direction of lickey hills which is sort of heading home direction as Cofton Hackett is below Rednall. Area between Longbridge and Licky Hills park going South from Groveley Lane is most likely place. This covers all the above.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Hi Lost Labs. Just got back. Bit confusing really, I went up and down Rubery High St - no-one seemed to recall seeing Max yesterday. I popped into the local police station where they have details of Max and they have had no calls or anything about Max being there let alone running scared along the High St. - STRANGE!. They suggested that he may well have been sighted on New Street in Frankley which has the Dingle pub at one end and Dingle Social Club on the other. I've left posters with the local bank of shops that seem to serve that part of Frankley. I've also given them out to dog walkers. Really need definite clarification of where he was seen cos we may all be looking in the wrong place.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Whereabouts in the B45 area did Max go missing from, ie Rubery, Rednal, Barnt Green etc? Its just that we've not long found a dog in the Barnt Green/Cofton Hackett area. It's not Max unfortunately as this little chap wasn't chipped, but I was informed that the Bromsgrove Dog Warden covered the area too. Her name is Julie Edmunds Mob: 07799 887536 - she's lovely and a great help. She said that dogs picked up are taken to Redditch Police Station. She also gave me a number of Sambourne Kennels 01527 893054 which is where the dogs are held after they've been in the station kennels for approx 48hours until they're found another kennels!
