Great to see an article in our local paper THE IPSWICH STAR yesterday evening 28/01/13 it was lovely to see Maisie and she looked so well. This story has certaintly touched a lot of people and lots of press attention it seems which can only be a good thing. It will certaintly highlight the hard work that DOGLOST does.

I am just over the moon with how much this story has touched the hearts of so many and I cannot believe these comments on this Dog Lost page. I would just like to say it is brilliant Maisie is home safe and well. Jenny and Tiga (and her 2 other beagles) are members of our group, and work tirelessly all over the country to help reunite lost dogs with their owners. She has found many of our missing beagles (who generally do NOT do recall and can follow a scent for many miles), and Jenny very rarely boasts or brags about her achievements. Did you also know that prior to coming to search for Maisie she had spent 5 very cold nights camping in Dorset in the snow/blizzards in the search for Bella beagle who has been missing siince 6/1/13. Well done Tiga & Jenny from all at Team Beagle Lost & Found xxx

While reuniting Maisie with her owner I showed her my canicross style waist belt and line and a friend has one and is going to give it to her. This will allow her to walk with Maisie on a lead which is secured to a special belt around her waist allowing her also to have 2 hands free to steady herself as well.

I have been spreading the news on this story to other Cairn Terrier owners via a Yahoo Group, and we have been chatting about these leads. Some of the American members of the group highly recommend this for use with the extendable lead, and I hope someone may be able to tell Margaret, Maisie's owner about this, it may help her in future and stop her worrying http://www.keepumsafe.com/ I have problems myself so I am going to get some, so if she wants some help to get one I will assist

Was so pleased to see Maisie is home. The worry is overwhelming (I know from my own experience). I think Jenny and Tiga should be put forward for a doggy award. I have just spoken to Margaret and Maisie is fine, she has been to the vets and had a few ticks removed and has lost some weight but apart from this she is doing ok.
The East Anglian Daily Times has been in contact and will be running a story on Maisie hopefully next week.

I am so so delighted for Maisies owner, who did not think she would see Maisie again and I gather it took some convincing when Helen called her to tell her the good news. To see her face as I handed Maisie over to her was just magic! Maisie was going to the vet today but to be honest it was more to check for ticks, she was in such good nick and when I picked her up off the ground she was warm. I am just so glad I was able to come and find Maisie and I am so proud of Tiga. I have just sent DL a picture of the reunion. This must give all other dog owners hope who have lost their dogs - they are tough little cookies.

I asked the same question on the fb group and this was Jenny's reply (hope it's ok to paste?)......

"She was about 50m in from the path , a little way after the first bench on the north boundary path going anticlockwise. Her lead was wrapped round bracken about a dozen times and we found her I just picked her up and cuddled her".

Just keep checking now for update after her visit to the vet, sure she will be fine. Also hoping to hear from Jenny & Tiga about where she was found as we covered quite a bit of ground last Saturday when searching - but it was a "needle in a haystack" feeling. Don't know how far you travelled Jenny but so good of you to, especially with the weather so cold. After last week's search I don't think she would have been found without you and Tiga.

Maisie looked as though she'd just been out for a walk... no real signs of having been out for 7 nights! Amazing... Margaret has collected Maisie and is overwhelmed with all the help and support she's rec'd. I have just spoken with Jenny (JB) - she is coming here tomorrow (Thurs) at 11:30 to track Maisie.

I just came back from a walk where I bumped into Margaret, who had Maisie's coat with her, so I asked her for it to help Jenny with the tracking. Fingers crossed!

I just came back from a walk along the North boundary walk, past where she was lost - as it's such a still day, I thought I may be able to hear her. Nothing. There are no posters left within the heath (that I saw) - either someone has removed them, or the terrible conditions last night blew them away. I'll try to go out again later and put a few more up.

posted along roads and areas off NT today at pull offs / car park areas where people park up and walk from , we also walked from top end of NT near to entrance and met people handed out small cards..stay safe little Maisie ,is anyone able to set up a FB page for her ? it worked well for Bella for non dog lost people to keep in touch ....xx

Has anyone checked out the sheds the fisherman use ? They may have gap a cairn could get in. A lot of missing dogs also tend to stay in woods. So maybe worth doing Bar B Q in wooded area x

A friend and myself have walked round the Northern side of the Gorse walk and gone 'off piste' quite a bit as well. We went across the little bridge - down in a corner near the rather swamp like area and through the woodland there - off the NT land - followed that path but doubled back and went over land parallel to the NT pathway, part of that circular walk. No luck unfortunately, but met lots of others who know and were either actively looking or were going to keep an eye out on their walks. There is plenty of shelter. I so hope there will be a sighting soon to give us a good idea of where to go and where to set up a barbecue ! x

I have trap, nets , night vision etc but no good without sightings in same area. And Jane at pampered pets is a little closer. She also breed cairns. Poor little dog out there in this awful cold weather. We have our beardie ramble there so I know area well. Poster as much as poss get lots help on foot but please don't call her name this will send her away. Do food statains if seen to keep in in area. Bar B Q garlic sausage the smell travel and bring them out. Also use smelly tinned fish. Don't give up. They tend to stay to a triangle. Really hope there's sightings today bless her. Good luck. The heather where is was last seen has loads of ditches and grooves, so hopefully she's managed to burrow in one of those... I imagine with the dense brush and snow, she'll be kept warm and out of the wind.

Just to add that I have been in touch with Suffolk Police. Although sympathetic, there were unable to help. They have no contacts for Search and Rescue for missing dogs.

Sarah Jane in answer to your questions yes Maisie is micro-chipped and yes the Dog Warden has been contacted, all local vets in the area have been notified and also Pampered Pets.
Maisie's retractable lead is red.

I have advised the owner to contact Radio Suffolk to do another appeal and also contact the Micro-chip company.

Maisie could well be sheltering from the weather so the search is continuing in the area she went missing. Some dogs do go to ground and are not seen at all when they first go missing.

I contacted http://www.sulsar.org.uk They only deal in humans but they have advised to go through Suffolk Police. I don't know if anyone has contacted the police???

Poor Maisie, has anyone tried contacting http://www.sardaengland.org.uk/ They are a lowland search and rescue and have volunteers all over. They usually search for missing persons but maybe one of the volunteers would help as a training excercise. Worth a call. Good luck to everyone searching today.

Maisie ran from the spot I marked on the map directly through the dense heather - running South. On Friday several volunteers tried to comb the heather, but if anyone knows the area, you will understand how difficult this is. We had hoped that all the volunteers would go back to that area and do the same, as it's unlikely she would have gotten out of the heather - unless Maisie managed to break free from her collar and lead.

To date:

Weds eve - Myself, Warden, Owner and 2 others searched the area and all the paths surrounding it.

Weds pm - Owner's friend and one other searched the area in the dark

Thurs am - I searched the paths and woodland to the east of the walk - informed the Postman & holiday makers

Thurs am - Owner's friend searched caravan area and Dunwich Forest - alerted Caravan Park, RSPB, Suffolk Wildlife, Wildlife Trust, etc

Thurs am - I printed posters and put them up where she was lost, on the NT info hut and gave several out to local shop, post office, etc

Thurs eve - NT Warden and several NT volunteers went searching in the area she was lost and the area up to Minsmere Road and then back via the beach

Fri am - Myself and 2 other volunteers searched the area and tried to comb the heather, then walked back via a new path

Others have been involved in the search and spreading the word, but I'm unsure where they have been or who they've alerted. I understand the local radio has been informed and I have emailed posters locally (but can't be sure they've been put up).

Area searched yesterday was within the Gorse walk, but I did go and check down by the reedbeds as well. My husband and dog walked further afield, mostly round the edge of the area where the main search was - so again following quite a bit of the gorse walk, they were out for about 4 hours altogether so covered quite a big area, although part of it was to and from Eastbridge. Might try and get to the caravan/campsite today and the woods through to Dunwich village. Will take cards with details to hand out again.

do we know yet if Maisie is microchipped ? if she is handed into vets /dog warden they have nothing to go on ...also has anyone contacted the dog warden yet? police ? local vets ? and the kennels strays/lost are taken ( somtimes its pampered pets at Wickenmarket).....now leaving to poster area and i will search more, also was she on a collar or a harness ?

I understand that someone is giving the wrong information regarding where Maisie was lost. She was not lost near the reed beds, but further North along the Dunwich Gorse walk (http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/things-to-see-and-do/view-page/item484084/245013/). Margaret, Maisie's owner took me to the site where Maisie ran off on the evening that she went missing, so I am absolutely sure of where it is. I have sent maps out and took several volunteers to the area on Friday. Unfortunately, I'm unwell today, so couldn't join in the search, however I've been told that the search happened in the wrong area due to misinformation... It's a shame

we all had a good search and was nice to put faces to names ... sadly no Masie yet , also i didnt see one poster driving in so in the morning i will go and poster and also poster local villages etc i will also take a walk about same area ...one thought is owner visiting daily? as i was told masie is walked there everyday i wonder if Masie is returning to the car park area or in the area waiting for owner and the familar car ....

Sadly there has been no news today after the search, but thank you to everyone that went out to help. We must continue to spread the word on Maisie postering and speaking to people in the area and also further a field incase she has been picked up by somebody who doesn't live in the immediate area.

Have searched am with our six dogs and again this afternoon but sadly there is no sign of Maisie. As Paw said, it's a mystery as she can't have got far with a heavy retracting lead bouncing along behind her. Feel desperately sorry for her owner who must be distraught.

Quite a few people turned up despite the bitter cold, a good search was made, but absolutely no sign of Maisie at all. A lot of cards were given out, and a number of people are now aware of Doglost, who were not aware before. All credit to the searchers, they told everyone in the vicinity about the little dog, and trudged through bracken and ditches. Might be worth alerting Waveney Council, just in case she has been picked up. Stay safe, Little one.

Walked over from Eastbridge this morning, and met up with searchers. We all trudged through heather but found nothing. I walked back along the track where she had been walked day she went missing, saw some tracks through slushy/icy water to reedbeds but don't think they were dog tracks and certainly no sign of trailing lead. Also had a look along beach, was going to look around caravan site but had chance of lift home so sorry didn't do that. May go out that way again tomorrow. Gave out a few cards with basic details & phone number on so a few more people aware. May be worth checking with Dog Warden in case someone has picked her up and reported it. Minsmere closed this weekend so any people about will probably go Dunwich way instead, but roads are quite icy. It's quite a mystery because you wouldn't think she would get far with lead attached.

Thanks Lisar - been in touch with P via texts. Not a lot we can do until tomorrow when we see how the snow / roads etc are. Perhaps we could meet 11 or 12 ? which would give us a chance to muster some helpers and still give us several hours. As she is a small dog she should have plenty of shelter there despite the cold.

Carol & I went out this afternoon but only saw a lot of red deer - it was difficult not knowing exactly where the walk had started and whereabouts Maisie escaped from.

A friend of mine lost their Cairn terrier a few months ago and she was missing for 2 days. She had no recall either. after numerous trips out calling her etc, they took a squeaky toy and she appeared from under a hedge. They had been past this hedge loads of times and she hadn't shown herself. As soon as the toy was squeaked she appeared, not far from where she had gone missing. I also have a Cairn and he has bad recall but he will come for a squeaky toy. It's worth a try to carry one with you when you're round the area, she may just appear.

I've just got back from searching with 2 others.....due to the location it is extremely difficult for a couple of people to look. The area is full of dense gorse bushes with hardly any clearings. It would be more beneficial if we could get a large group of people together and basically walk in a line together, especially if she has been snagged with the lead. There is so much for her to get caught on and the bushes would be taller than Maisie.

Didn't get to put any posters up, but most dog-owners in Eastbridge know and will be looking when out with there dogs. I've printed up some small cards with basic details and owners phone number which I will give to anyone I see when out with my dog. Hopefully will walk over to Dunwich Heath tomorrow with lots of cards to give out to any walkers that may be around. Have found email address for campsite so will email them and will drop some cards off tomorrow if I get that far.

I live at Potton Hall on the edge of the Dunwich Forest. I think I know Maisie from our dog training club and her owner. I hope they are both ok. I've only just heard about this but have been out and about in the forest with my two little dogs off the lead and have seen no sign of Maisie. I'm sure they would have run to her if they'd seen/smelled her. I will continue to search and let everyone I know about her being lost.

If there is any shrubbery or bushes in the region I would try checking there. One of my dogs once ran off with extending lead attached and I found her quite a few gardens away with it snagged round a rose bush.

Got a text from owner at 2.45 to say she was last seen on the north side of the round walk - from the old Coast guard cottages. They were putting up posters then.
A friend of mine walked towards the NT area from the bird reserve end with her dogs but no sign. Unfortunately I am home too late - light wise - to get across there now and help search. Hope Maisie will have come across a kind rescuer by now.

I tried to contact owner but no reply. Dunwich Heath is a vast area so does need narrowing down where exactly she was last seen. Also the colour of retractable lead would help. A flash of red or blue is easier to spot on the Heath than Cairn terrier coat colour. Will help search tomorrow am if no news. Fingers crossed.

If not found before Saturday we will be out that way so will look out for her. Rough idea of where she ran from would be good e.g. car park, beach side of heath, or path over heath towards Weatleton/Minsmere Road. Will try to get some posters up around Minsmere & Eastbridge, probably won't be until tomorrow morning though.

I have spoken to the owner and people have been out searching the area until dark, the owner will be going back out first thing to continue searching. I have advised the owner on what to do if Maisie is seen.
I will E-mail general information and contact numbers for vets in the area and sort out a "similar photo" for her page.
