No excuse whatsoever for this. Tha Halo Scanner is mega cheap, about £40 and if the dog is logged here as missing this will come up on the screen. I am going to write to the local councils here and see what their policy is.http://www.facebook.com/haloscanner
dawny
Run free sweet Ben, so sorry for your loss x
cindy
Run free at Rainbow Bridge dear Ben. My love to the family, so sorry for your sadness xx
carling210
So sorry that Ben has passed over to the bridge, & Its outrageous that some Councils don't scan dead domestic animals & give the owners a chance to dispose of a the remains as they see fit, also it would give closure to owners that have lost a pet.
Information on other Welsh Councils scanning policies http://www.houndmistress.co.uk/deaddogs.htm It would be interesting to find out what English Councils policies are on scanning, a scanner can cost as little as £104.99 http://www.easyanimal.co.uk/petscan-microchip-scanner.html, something should be done about this situation.Last edited: 2013-01-28 16:45:25 by carling210

I am so very, very sorry to hear about Ben - RIP sweetheart - play free over the Bridge xx

Shame on the BCBC for being so insensitive and lacking compassion - things need to change

What a very sad and needlessly upsetting situation, my heart goes out to Ben's family. BCBC and the staff at the cremation place should be ashamed of themselves - Ben was a much-loved and missed family member and neither he nor his family deserve to be treated like this.

RIP dear Ben, sleep safe in God's arms till you meet your family again xx
jobadger
I'm so very very sorry and sad to read this Ben. Your family must be devastated. Sleep tight, old man - they'll join you when the time is right.
BCBC - you should be damned well ashamed of yourselves. Ben was part of a family - loved, cherished, searched for and is missed greatly. You need to get your act together - Ever heard of DEFRA and the guidance provided for in circumstances such as this? My heart goes out to your family Ben.

So sorry to hear this horrible news.My heart goes out to Ben's family. As a person that has had some cross words with 'gung ho' councils I must say that they are on my pet hate list closely behind the police! They think that they are a law to themselves and if this was my dog I would be unable to let this slip!
Lorraine
I just have no words for how terribly sad this situation is and how incredibly angry I am.....sending my love to Bens owners, I do hope they are ok x
ClaireC
Shame on BCBC for their total lack of compassion. RIP Ben and my sympathies to the family.
Ellie
Sending my condolences to the family of their special boy Ben

This is really terrible and so upsetting for the family.
I've moved Ben over to Reunited (Rainbow Bridge)
Run free dear Ben. You're young again now and will be reunited with your loving family one day.
All my thoughts are with his family at this very sad time.
BBKM
So very upset and angry about the way Ben and his family have had no respect from this council especially when they were made aware that Ben was missing. Disgraceful and shame on them.
My thoughts are with Ben's family who must be heartbroken. RIP Ben xx
digbysmum

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Am very cross about this.. the Council knew the owners were looking as they called them every day..they even retweeted Riverlady's tweet early in the search..something needs to be done about it. Grrr .. a week of hell for the family when there was no need. Not even sure this should go to Reunited as clearly the family have not even had that comfort. Am so gutted for them (as I have expressed on good old facebook) - in other news......this is EXACTLY what happened to Enzo the Staffie from Bridgend too!!! Not scanned - just bagged & cremated!!! The cremation place confirmed that they had a dog that looked like him pass through - about two weeks later!!!

A very sad & undignified end.
If it was Ben (sounds like it), you are now free of pain & can wait over the bridge to one day be re-united with your loved ones. xx

This has just been posted on Ben's Fbk page by Sian Maull the owner's daughter-in-law. "Thank you so much to everyone who helped in the search for ben today. We have been speaking to pets at peace who confirm that a black lab x collie was found between the hours of sun eve and mon morning by bcbc. Peta at peace recieved the dogs body on wed in a black bag of all things and then cremated him without even opening the bag. Bcbc description of the dog is "a black lab x collie with a grey face" we are assuming this is ben which would explain how nobody has even seen him walking the road etc. We would like to thank everybody involved in the search for ben whether out searching or sharing via fb. Such a sad time :'(" ~~~ I don't understand why the local dog warden, who was aware Ben was missing did not inform the family of this. The description of the dog found by Bcbc (Bridgend County Borough Council) was clearly similiar to that of Ben whom they knew was missing. Such a shame for the family.

Good luck to everyone searching today. Praying one of you finds this old man safe x

Goldenfrodo .. thanks. I know it would make all the difference if a tracker dog could help. Hoping that someone has found Ben and taken him in, unaware that everyone is searching for him. Owners are doing everything they can and I'm keeping everything crossed that Ben is found soon.

I'll phone that number CJ to try to find out about the dog that was barking.
I just hope that somebody has found Ben and taken him in out of the cold.

No local knowledge so have no idea of distnace but has posting by ELEANOR been followed up- there is a number- if close should be phoned in case its Ben.
Having said that hope is was still there in morning they had sense to go and see what was wrong and why still barking- i think i would have had to have done that when first heard!
Maybe check with DW if reported to them?

This was posted on Ben's Fbk page 6hrs ago ..we thought we had a very good lead today with the searchers (my hubby and step dad were there aswell) they found what was definately bens tracks in the garden up from my father in laws house where the hole in the fence leads... there are markings in the snow to show that ben has had a fit in that garden and then got back up and carried on walking towards the woods... it built our hopes so high, but they still didnt find him as the snow in the woods had melted and the prints had gone with the snow. They still thoroughly searched the woods but no luck. Admin .. are there any tracker dogs available in this area?

Little black dog with a chain around his neck ( no tag ) has been seen the last few days in Abercanaid. If anyone has lost a dog or knows someone who has ABERCANAID would be a good place to look !!

Probably not but still worth ruling out!

Sadly still no news about the whereabouts of ben. We are devastated to know that ben will almost definately be in alot of pain now and will be having siezures due to lack of medication. Ben is 16 yrs old and has been a loyal companion to my father in law since ben was 6weeks old. My father in law is heart broken. A search for ben is organised for tomorrow at 10am. Starting from outside the MOT station on cefn glas road cf314pj. The more people to help, the better the chances of finding ben (or as my kids call him stubbornass as he is deaf and they think hes not listening on purpose lol) thank you everyone for your continued support. Sian. 07450035880

I have been looking today for your boy around the area by Newcastle Church there wasn't any loose dogs there at all. I checked Gardens, bushes and playgrounds. As the snow is bad in the area I suspect someone has taken him in. Another thought was has he been handed in to the Bridgend Dogs Trust. I also noticed that on Tondu Road there is a dog kennels. Have you tried there? Sorry I can't be of any more help!

I’ve found that it helps to print out an A4 sheet of paper cut into business-card size slips, each with brief details and your phone number on. Give them to all the local dog walkers, postmen etc. you meet. Then if someone has news when they’re out and about they don’t need to find a poster or log on to the site to contact you. I hope he's home soon. My first dog was epileptic so I know how urgent this is.
