It doesnt take long to just get out of your car and try and find out who the owner is if you run a dog over, i would feel awful if it were me and wouldnt even dreaming of leaving the scene like they did with Pinot.

- Oh noooooooooooo! I am so, so sorry. Please know, that it would have been very quick. He is safe now and you DID find him. He is no longer lost. I truly believe that many of our fur babes are so special, God takes them quickly and without pain because they have already earned their wings. Pinot is special, that is why he had to go early. He can now rest, secure in the knowledge he has been found and he will be watching over you and his furry pal, until you are all reunited once more. This time, never to part. God bless you all and in time, may your hearts know peace. Sending a big kiss to heaven for sweetest Pinot. God bless you precious. x

- The search is over.pinot was found this afternoon in a ditch, dead, having been hit by a car. He was 200m from home. Thanks for all your support. Am now off to find the sick person that hit him and didn't stop. He was the most loving and friendly dog and my life is now empty without him. Sorry it didn't have a happy ending but keep up the good work.

- not sure if the Colchester dog came to anything. Have you contacted local area running clubs to ask if their members can keep an eye out as they cover lots of miles between them

- Smudger, that Dunton Hill dog, I think you still need to poster around there because it's possible the dog ran off after Pinot. At DogLost we have learnt that anything is possible. Right, so you've got Thaxted Road at Hayes Grove and half mile along Thaxted Road from there. Possible sighting with the Dunton Hill dog, Tilty possible 5 miles away. Is any of this forming a triangle shape? Has there been anyone from a travelling community around there or any fairs or any one who would pass through around that time? Any event in the area at that time? I really don't think it was because you think you left her out in the garden. Something else happened. But what? Please talk to the police, just in case, because dogs do not want to stray far from home. Hopefully these sightings are her. It could well be she was nabbed and escaped and that is why she may be 5 miles away. That would also explain why she can't sniff her way home. There are all sorts of possibilities, but I really don't believe it was because of you. Not for one second. Did you hear anything going on in this power cut? Do you know what caused the power cut? Was it just your home? Had you seen anyone watching your home or dogs? Any strange vans? Please have a think as more clues may help. Meantime, keep up the good work and keep scenting. Alerting owner to found dog digbysmum. x

- 2013-02-05 23:07 Baggy Dog
- It must be awful for you Smudger2205 - but I'm sure he's scrounging food from somewhere. Good advice from Kimmybear. Keep at it, glad you're doing a leaflet drop. Amazing how many people wouldn't think twice about a stray dog if they're not dog people. Keep him in the public eye. Good luck, hope he's home soon (great name BTW!)
- 2013-02-05 08:42 Kimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
- Ok, he would come home if he could. If this is him then he must have simply lost his way, or he could have had a bang on the head which mas made him a little disorentated, but when it wears off he'll be okay. Keep scenting those areas, leading back to a safe place with a blanket and poster, or if close and safe lead back to home. Well done! I know how dreadful it is, but you can do this. Plot those sightings - are they forming a triangle? If so we can move on to leaving a food station for him at a sfae place along the route. Same place, same time every day, even twice a day. This will keep him coming back there. Once he knows its there. Okay? You can do it! x
- 2013-02-05 07:41 Smudger2205
- Nothing spent whole weeken walking and driving from 7-12. Had4 potential sightings in same area. He must be so hungry and cold, but nothing. Doing door to door leaflet drop now. Hate being home as its too quiet. Why can't he just come home it's killing us now.
- 2013-02-04 22:12 Kimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
- Any news?
- 2013-02-03 14:11 Baggy Dog
- I’ve found that it helps to print out an A4 sheet of paper cut into business-card size slips, each with brief details and your phone number on. Give them to all the local dog walkers, postmen etc. you meet. Then if someone has news when they’re out and about they don’t need to find a poster or log on to the site to contact you. Shame about false alarm. Hope he's home soon.
- 2013-02-02 23:47 Kimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
- Meant to add, making him too hot to handle will get him home! x
- 2013-02-02 23:46 Kimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
- Absolutely well done! Bumped for sightings. The scenting advice was in the email that I sent you. You don't have to just use bits of material, although that is good, you can use your own scent as per the scenting instructions in the attachments to my email I sent you. What does concern me, is that if Pinot got out by himself, surely he would have come back? He would sit in the garden and wait. So, either someone has him, or he's strayed too far away and got himself lost by accident, or something has happened to stop him coming back. Have you called the council cleansing dept and the Highways Agency for your area? They should check to see if anyone knows of a dog on the highways. Check neighbours gardens, ponds, bushes he could get stuck on, that sort of thing. Rule it all out and then there is another possibility that he was nabbed and got away and that may how he ended up 5 miles away, if him, and it is possible. Believe me anything and everything can happen to our dogs. Suggest you go to those sightings and scent as per email instructions to lead him to a safe place, with a poster close by. Or, if home is not across dangerous roads, lead him home with scenting. Dogs do a triangle which is also in the advice I sent. If he has gone that way he will go there again, eventually. You are doing great! Keep getting those posters up and keep spreading the word: we will do the same. I think you need "reward" on the poster, this does help. Genuine people do not usually claim a reward, but it can help in some circumstances as per my email. We can just put 'yes' to reward. Let me know. Dogs are very resilient and often manage very well in the wild until they can be caught. We can help with the catching as well. Come on boy, time to come home. Leave the gate open and a blanket or something out there for him with food and water. If you need help or get another sighting PLEASE call us! x
- 2013-02-02 18:19 Smudger2205
- It now turns out that the lady who lost hers last night got it back. We have had 2 sightings today- first at Hayes grove on the thaxted road at 7.45am then another 1/2 mile up the road at 9am. Will keep looking.
- 2013-02-02 10:29 Smudger2205
- Probably false alarm as another lab ran away from duton hill disappeared last night. So 2 hrs last night and 3 this morning were probably a waste of time.
- 2013-02-02 02:10 Smudger2205
- As we had a power cut I didnt see him go. As we have 2 dogs i thought both had come in and shut the door and thats when he must have gone.Have plastered the town and surrounding villages with posters.have done leaflet drops, phoned all the farms, taxi companies, mail sorting office, spoke to all the workmen around the area, pubs, restaurants, set up a Facebook page, dog wardens, pet plan have been notified and they have alerted all the vets on their books and we have done the rest. We have spent today on the advice of sniffer dog company started placing bits of sheets torn into strips to trees so that he may be able to smell the scent and make his way home. We had a potential sighting this evening in tilty which is 5 miles away, near where parents live so have spent the last 2 hrs walking round there with the other dog, but nothing came of it. Will keep trying to draw him back in. If it was him, and the person that saw him is a family friend who has looked after him before, then it means he may be getting hungry and moving towards houses. Anyway better go to bed, start again in 5 hrs. Fingers crossed.

- Thank you for that lovely picture. Smudger, did you see him get out? Or was he just gone when you looked? Could he have been taken? This does happen. If so we can think of where he may have been taken. I think the biggest thing you can do right now is make him famous! Poster eveywhere you can and I don't mean a few, but 100's. Get an advert in the local paper, even a small one will help. Ask if they will do a story - they may not, but worth asking. If he disappeared from the garden by himself, tell the police as you need a crime number. Did you read and receive the advice sheets by email? Do everything on there and tick them off a you go. He is chipped which helps immensely, but you still have lots of work to do. Call local radio and see if they will take it up, they may not, but what is there to lose? Try anything and everything. You can do this - you have to keep working on it and make him the most famous dog in the land. Posters in all the pubs - they can sell dogs in pubs! Did you call dog warden? Come on Pinot, where are you boy? x
- 2013-02-01 09:32 Smudger2205
- We had a power cut and got out while he was in the garden. He is nearly 3.

- Smudger, do you have another photo we can add as well? He looks quite young in this one but it says adult. How old is he now? Thank you. x
- 2013-01-31 20:19 Kimmybear - Area Co-ordinator, Essex & Hertfordshire borders
- Owner, when you say lost from home, do you mean you saw him get out of the house/garden and run off, or did he simply disappear without you seeing? This is important. Thank you. x
- 2013-01-31 17:50 Smudger2205
- Just an update on distinguishing marks, he has a white tufty strand on his right shoulder. Don't know if this will help at all.
- 2013-01-31 14:45 DulcieB
- May not be have been PINOT but there have been a report on facebook about a Chocolate Labrador that was seen early this morning being hit by a car in Sittingbourne, Kent. The dog got up again apparently and run off, the lady who posted the comment looked for him/her but couldn't find him/her. You can see the comment on facebook, on UK Lost Dogs group, its an open group so you should be able to see it without joining if you'd rather not. Was your dog chipped, it may be worth contacting Vets in the sittingbourne area, see if anyone found and took this dog in this morning.
