Alfie's little adventure is finally over! He's now fast asleep on his mat getting some well deserved rest. Found in North Chessington nearly 5 miles from where he was lost! Thank you all so so much for all your help. Words can not describe how happy me and my family are right now. Doglost is a fantastic website!

Just back from the Common but sadly no sign of Alfie. Covered Ashtead Woods Rd to Epsom Gap via Fp 24, then bridleway 29 round to FP 31, then back down FP31 to PR1 to Ashtead station. Gave Alfie's picture and your contact numbers to everyone we met and put up posters round the route and at Ashtead level crossing. Hopefully someone will see him again soon. Will be out looking again tomorrow if he's not found in the meantime.

There's a lot of building work going on around the Old Cottage Hospital, the old West Park hospital site. Make sure the builders know he may be wandering about.
From previous experience of putting up posters at Horton Country Park the rangers take them straight down again, and sometimes get very cross. They will let you put a poster on the board in the car park (near the toilets) and take one into their office, also near the car park. There are a few houses around the park to give a poster to and the Manor garden centre across the road. There was a missing dog a while ago that had a wander round there and they now have a coffee shop, so there may be smells to attract him as well.

Hope it is good news today and Alfie is found safe and well. We sadly lost our dog in the summer and i can fully understand what you are going through. One thing I would recommend is asking the Leatherhead and Epsom royal mail sorting offices to put posters up for all the postmen to see before they go out on their rounds. Please start to make a note (on a map) as to where Alfie has been sighted. Most dogs seem to more or less formmore or less, a triangle when they are on the loose. You can start to guess where he next will possibly be.

Make sure you have contacted the dog warden asap for the area and neighbouring area too
Tell the police, though nolonger responsible ,some still have a register etc.
Contact all the vets in the area to advise should anyone manage to get Alfie and take him there.
Doglost Admin has more info including how to mark with your scent the area Alfie is in.
Stay safe Alfie!

Ok will be postering Horton tomorrow. He doesn't know the area unfortunately. Was the first time he was walked there. Thank you.
csquaredb
Have been in contact via FB with a lady at Rushett Farm and she will look out for him tomorrow. She says that a friend of hers saw him yesterday near the old cottage hospital which backs on to Horton Country Park. The friend tried to grab him, but he was too terrified and ran off. Would be worth postering Horton too, just in case he goes back that way. Does he know the area. If both sightings are right, he seems to be wandering some distance. Will be out looking for him on the common in the morning.
Jamespeasewat
He was seen on Ashtead common almost opposite the Star pub. Around D'Abernon House. I just hope he doesn't decide to cross Kingston Road again. Thanks again for all the tips and help.

I’ve found that it helps to print out an A4 sheet of paper cut into business-card size slips, each with brief details and your phone number on. Give them to all the local dog walkers, postmen etc. you meet. Then if someone has news when they’re out and about they don’t need to find a poster or log on to the site to contact you. Glad he's chipped, tagged and tattooed, gives him the best possible chance of coming home. Handsome fellow, hope he's in the blue soon.
Jan S
I will walk my dogs on the Common tomorrow, I am coming from the Epsom side. Will pass details on to friends in the area.
csquaredb
Whereabouts on the common was he seen, and we'll use that as a starting point for our walk on the common in the morning.
Jamespeasewat
He was last seen in Ashtead Common today. I've notified the rangers. If anyone lives near that area and has a dog it would be wonderful if you could walk your dog around that area tomorrow and have a look.
csquaredb
Keeping every crossed for you.
Jamespeasewat
We've just had a sighting of him near the Star pub but he's very spooked so didn't approach them. Family going out to look again. Have dropped posters around that area.
csquaredb
Is he likely to know his way home from where you lost him? If so, which direction would he be likely to go?
csquaredb
Would be worth dropping posters in to the houses at Maldon Rushett - another one lost from the same area, was found by someone there a few months ago. Also the Star and Shy Horse pubs, as lots of walkers go there. There's a shortcut from the common down to Tesco/B&Q avoiding the road, so may head there for food. Also tell Ashtead Common rangers (01372 279083) so they can keep a look out. No sign of him on Ashtead Common earlier, but will keep looking and spreading the word. Hope for happier news soon.
Jamespeasewat
He is sometimes quite a shy dog when it comes to stranger and other dogs. Otherwise most of the time yes he is friendly. He was wearing a red collar. The name tag has a paw print on it.
Jamespeasewat
Thank you for all the help. He was lost next to Leatherhead Golf Course.
csquaredb
Have posted Alfie on Ashtead Parents and Pachesham agility FB pages. Please can we have more info re where he was lost. Is he friendly with strangers and other dogs? What colour collar was he wearing? Thanks.
